Chapters The sun shining brightly in the middle of the sky. The town of Ponyville, for the most part, was awake. Today wasn’t a normal day, however, for a very important event was happening. Near the edge of the Everfree forest was a wedding, the wedding of two rare creatures, one native to the Everfree, the other, the badlands. The reason this wedding was important was the fact that these two dangerous creatures would be bound together. Normally, this wedding would pass unnoticed by the two Royal Sisters and the Elements of Harmony, but this wedding provided Celestia, the eldest sister, raiser of the sun, and co-ruler of Equestria, a chance to make these two accept an agreement which would promote the safety of her subjects.
The edge of the Everfree was more alive than ever before. Most of the town was gathered here to witness the binding of these two creatures. Applejack and Pinkie Pie were looking over the sweets and buffet. Why Applejack? Well, she had to keep Pinkie from eating the sweets. Rainbow Dash stood guard at the entrance, making sure that ponies didn’t do or bring anything dangerous into the wedding. Fluttershy was with the CMC, helping them prepare for the opening ceremony of the wedding. She had a small squirrel stand next to her as she explained what they were supposed to do.
Twilight and Rarity both had their hooves full as they were getting the creature from the Badlands ready for her big day. Her name was Viper Pit, and she was a scorpion pony. Her mane was purple and her coat was a candy-colored purple. Her eyes were blue with the inner pupil being a darker shade of the color. She was sitting on top of a pedestal as Rarity did her mane. Twilight, Nurse Redheart, and Lyra stood by and watched as the seamstress worked her magic! Both literally and figuratively!
Nurse Red Heart stood slightly forward than the others, a medical bag clenched in by both of her hooves. She was a bridesmaid, asked by little Miss. Viper (soon to be Mrs. Light) personally to attend. Viper said that if she stung or bit anypony that she would like medical assistance as soon as possible. Even though Viper’s sting couldn’t actually kill anypony here, other than the CMC, since they are near twice the size of her. With the way Viper is acting now, she stepped forward slightly, since the little scorpion mare’s tail was swinging back and forth quickly, which was a funny sight to see while she was being held in Rarity’s magical grasp. The scorpion pony was giddy and excited, this was something she had been waiting for ever since she left her pack to find a mate. Though she felt dread when she heard that she was going to have to wear something called “shoes”.
The little pony was already in her dress, which had been quite difficult for the others since she didn’t want to wear one. When Rarity tried to get Viper to stay still so she could put it on her, Viper would hiss, swing her tail, and sometimes try to bite the hooves that would grab her. Finally, after both Twilight and Lyra offered to feed her their magic, Rarity finally got the dress on her. At first, she started to bite at it, but thanks to Rarity, she stopped it. The dress was a normal white wedding dress, but in the center of it was a lovely pink flower. A bow would’ve been put in her hair but Viper wouldn’t fall for the same trick twice.
“So Viper, how are you feeling darling~?” Rarity asked as she combed her hair.
Viper shuffled uncomfortably in the dress, ”Happy, nervous, hungry, and itchy.”
Rarity raised an eyebrow,”Itchy?”
“It’s this dress!” Viper replied as she gave her best pouty face.
“Oh hush! Soon you’ll be married and then you can get out of the dress!” Rarity said as she put the comb down.
“Good!” Viper huffed as she jumped down from the stool.
Viper landed with a small thud as Rarity walked over to grab a pair of high heels she had made for her. Twilight and Lyra struck up a friendly chat while Nurse Red Heart sat down in a nearby chair.
“What are those?” Viper asked upon seeing the white shoes.
“These are high heels!” Rarity exclaimed happily, holding them up like a certain green video game character does when they find an item.
Viper glared flaming daggers at the shoes, she didn’t like them, they didn’t look comfortable, nor did they smell right.
“Okay dearie, hold still while I put these on you!” Rarity said, walking slowly and evenly to Viper.
“Why do I half to wear shoes!?” Viper huffed.
“Because, and I don’t want to mock you dearie, but you are rather... short...” Rarity replied
Viper huffed loudly at that response, either way, she wouldn’t be wearing stilts today, tomorrow, or ever! She tried to bolt sideways as Rarity grabbed her with her magic.
‘Hopefully Ace is fairing better than I am!’ Rarity thought as she brought Viper back to the chair.
“How do I look?” Strings asked Cutter.
He was wearing a black tuxedo with a dark blue tie. Stringy was a dark blue stallion with no eyes. His hair was a light blue with a black stripe running down the center of it. His normal hooves were replaced with his steel claws. Strings looked normal except for the eyes, but on the inside, he was mostly filled with steel cables and wiring. His original name was lost to time but he found satisfaction with the name String Theory, or just simply Strings or Stringy.
“You look normal!” Cutter replied with a confident yet jokester-esk smile.
“Heh... thanks...” Strings replied,” Do you think I could wear my sunglasses?”
Cutter rolled his eyes as he said,” Strings, everpony from here to the next planet knows that you don’t have any eyes!”
“Bloop!” Stringy said as he dropped the sunglasses over his eyes.
“Hey! No! Get those off!” Cutter said, walking over to the stallion.
“What are you gonna do short guy? Jump?” Stringy replied. In truth, Cutter was 6 feet 2 inches, while Stringy was 6 foot 6 inches.
“I’m warning ya!”
“What are you gonna do? Fight me?” Stringy asked with a smirk.
“Not here I won’t! I can kick your plot later!” Cutter replied with a similar smirk.
A period of silence fell upon the two. Ace stared into Strings’s eyes and Strings did the same. Within a few seconds, the two of them burst out laughing. Stringy removed the sunglasses from his face and put them on the table next to him. That was one of the reasons why Cutter was Stringy’s best man. Before Stringy was properly settled into town, Cutter and is brother Tattered Moon stopped by. Apparently, Strings was known as a top priority target in Canterlot, which caused Cutter to attack him. To make a long story short, Cutter got his butt kicked easily. Who knew that swords couldn’t cut through steel cables?
As their laughter died down Cutter looked around, searching for his brother.
“Where did he go?” Cutter asked as he began to search every dark corner of the room.
“Who, Tattered Moon?” Strings asked, looking over at the unicorn stallion with a raised eyebrow.
“Yeah, he up and went. I don’t know where he is.” Cutter pouted as he crossed his hooves.
Strings felt a breath touch the back of his neck. With a soft sigh, he replied,” I think I do...”
“Really where-” Cutter was cut off as Strings turned around quickly and grabbed an orange figure by the collar of his tuxedo.
“There you are~.” Strings hummed as he gave the pegasus a metal noggie.
“O-ow! Hey! Stop!” Tattered begged as he tried to escape the vice grip.
“Kid,” Strings started as he let him go,” Get out of the shadows! The light ain’t gonna hurt you!”
Tattered grumbles something under his breath as he looked over at his brother.
“Ah jeez!” Tattered said as he looked over at the clock,” String Theory, you need to be out there right now!”
“Dang! You’re right,” Stringy said, he extends both of his metallic cable forelegs and grabs the two stallions. They walk out the door and into the aisle.
.: At The Alter:.
Stringy stood stalk still as he waited for his soon to be wife to walk up the aisle. He remembered how it all started as a simple hunt, prey against a predator.
~Flashback~
The hot air of the desert wasteland blew around Stringy as he sat on top of a sand dune. He had been tracking a small, weird looking “filly” that had left a large group of ones that look similar to her. He was stalking her not only to see what she would do and the like but to take the gem that was in between her pincers. Right now, the “filly” had found the entrance to his native territory, the Everfree Forest.
He had high hopes that she would enter it, if she did, she would be in his playing field. Why hasn’t he just killed her? Where would the fun in that be? He loved the thrill of the hunt, but he also loved stalking his prey, making them go insane before he got to them. He had been tracking the “filly” for a week now, every once in a while, she would sleep, which allowed him to do the same. He didn’t need to, but it was an essential need that kept his skills sharp. He remembered that he had overheard something the “filly” told the others in the group, something about “being grown up” and the like, she said a number, but he was sure what it meant.
‘Come on, enter the forest...” He thought impatiently.
The “filly” had been looking at the forest entrance for an hour now, it was as if she was in stasis. He decided to wait another hour to see if she will move. If she didn’t, he’ll end his hunt right then and there.
*Hour ticks by*
Still no movement.
‘GRAAAH!’ Stringy thought angrily,’ Move dangit!’
He couldn’t help it anymore, that “filly” was messing with him and he wanted her out of the picture... now . He jumped off of the sand dune and began to walk towards her. He retracted his normal hooves and replaced them with his metallic claws. He was barefoot at the time as well and soon, his back hooves meet the same fate as his hooves, replaced by metal.
He was in striking distance of the filly, his footsteps grew heavier and heavier. He didn’t care if he was making any noise, all he cared about was that the sand became softer and less dense than before. He had a sinking feeling that this was a trap, that somehow, through all the ways he has hidden, this little runt knew that he was following her. Closing in on the target, his desert camo, which was a sandy yellow cape, shirt, and pants, blew in the wind as he raised his arm. It was like time slowed as he brought his claw down onto what looked like the “filly”. He heard a sicking crunch as his claw slammed down the lower half of the... changeling’s body?
“WHAT?!” Stringy exclaimed as he moved backward slightly, his hoof covered in a sticky blue substance.
“RAWR!” A female roar echoed to the side of Stringy. He looked over to see what made it, only to have something light purple, much bigger filly stabbing his neck with two sharp objects.
Each strike hit him fast, but he didn’t feel any of it. He reached up and pulled the runt off of his face and threw her back onto the ground... hard. He reached up and felt the five to six brand new puncture holes in his neck, each one oozing a dark green liquid. He heard the scorpion-like creature whimper and growl as she tried to stand up. Her right leg was bent at an awkward angle and her tail had a crack in it.
“O-ow,” she mumbled as she limped towards the large stallion.
“F-fea-ar m-me!” The filly groaned as she tried to sting him again. When she did so a sharp pain ran up her spine,”O-OW!”
The filly stopped stinging his leg and resorted to biting it. At that moment, Stringy released how much she wanted to kill him, his urge to kill her faded quickly as she continued to nibble on his leg with the ferocity of a small cat. What he admired most was that she was a child and took a throw like that, only to get back up and fight like it bearly affected her. Really, her biting barely hurt, or at least it would have if he didn’t feel any pain.
“Kid,” Strings crossed his forelegs as he looked down at her,” Stop, you’re getting nowhere with this.”
*Nibbling intensifies *
“Alright, have it you’re way than!” Strings growled as he used his magic to pick her up. The filly stopped her assault on his leg and turned to bite the air, then quickly stopped as she saw she wasn’t biting anything. He then trotted home with the creature as she floated behind him, he heard angry clicks and her ways of cursing him with some ancient curse and the like, he soon tuned her out in favor of ways to treat the injuries he had caused her.
* Sometime later*
“-And that's why you don’t attack a Wendigo with a frost sword.” Stringy had concluded his story with a light chuckle.
“What is a windigo?” The filly or more accurate, small scorpion pony mare asked. She was wrapped in a black blanket near the open fire. Her tail was in a cast and her leg in a splint. The reason for the splint is because Strings ran out of gauze to use.
“Well, a Windigo is a creature of ice and snow that was once a pony. They turned into that creature because they ate another pony,” Stringy summed up,” A Wendigo is a creature if Ice and snow, but it feeds on hatred.”
Viper Pit only nodded as she drank warm water from a widdled wooden cup.
“What’s snow...”
Stringy thought for a moment, as he thought of how he would describe it to a desert creature.
“Well,” Stringy said,” It’s like sand, but it’s denser, white, it can fall from the sky, and it’s really cold.”
“Oh... I still don’t get it.”
The two sat there for a moment. Complete silence surrounded them. Until Stringy broke it with his laughter.
“W-WHAT!?” Viper asked as she dropped her cup.
“Y-you’re just too innocent for this world kid,” Stringy said as he wiped a tear from his eye.
His laughter died down as Viper tried to argue back that she wasn’t. Stringy just wavered her off and continued what he had said from earlier.
“Still, that isn’t the only beast I’ve killed and I’m sure that I'll kill more as time goes on!”
“You look experienced with hunting...”
“Eh,” Stringy shook his hoof slightly,” I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but I think that I’m an amazing bounty hunter... Except I don’t get a bounty.”
“What do you hunt?”
“Anything really. I hunted dragons that became a problem once before.”
“Really?” Viper said as she looked over the stallion,” I haven’t seen your kind in action, but I don’t think you can take on a dragon!”
“Yeah, well, I’m not like most of my kind. To prove it to you I think I have a dragon’s head around here somewhere.” Stringy said as he stood up and stretched.
He walked over to a tree and hit it. The tree made a loud thunking noise as it opened up. Inside was a dragon skull, complete with horns.
“WOAH!” Viper said as she looked at the skull with amazement.
“Caught this guy stalking the Everfree hunting for a Phoenix! To bad I got to him first !” Stringy replied as his hoof tapped the dragon’s horn.
“H-how did you kill it? You don’t have a stinger!”
“You’re right! I don’t! I just used my bare hooves!” Stringy replied as his metallic claws came out and began to open and close.
The mare giggled a little as Stringy sat back down. He rubbed the back of his neck as he stared out into the woods. Another long silence fell on them, the sounds of the forest echoed throughout their little campsite.
‘I’ve had enough silence for the day...’ Stringy thought. He looked over at the mare who had downed another glass of warm water.
“What are you doing out here, kid?” He asked.
Viper stopped her long drink and put her cup down onto the rough forest landscape.”I’m looking for a mate! I am to become an alpha mare!”
Stringy gave her the most deadpan of all deadpan looks. He raised a finger and pointed at her,” Kid... I know you little guys dream the universe and all... but you look far to young for a... mate !”
“What are you talking about! I’m twenty-six! I’m an adult!” Viper argued back, she gave Stringy a pouty face.
“Twenty-six? You look like your five!” Stringy exclaimed with a smile.
“ARE YOU CALLING ME SHORT?!” Viper shouted back.
“No!” Stringy exclaimed louder as his smile grew larger.
“Well, I need to find a mate! My heat is coming soon! It’s almost rainy season!” Viper spat, both at Stringy and into his cup.
“Ugh... well, how long does your little heat last?” Strings asked, hoping to stir away from this topic.
“Three days!”
“That’s it? Three days? No wonder you want to get a mate, if it only lasts that long...”
“Hmpf!” Viper replied as she curled up underneath the blanket.
“Tell you what. How about we head to a town I know. Maybe you can find a mate there!” Stringy said as he started to get comfortable on the ground. ‘And maybe find a book on your species...’
“...” Viper said nothing, for she has already fallen asleep.
"Yeah, yeah, see you in the morning...”
.: End of Flashback:.
The music started up and Stringy was knocked out of his flashback to witness his soon to be wife walking up the aisle. He must have missed the flower girls since rose petals were scattered around the path. The small light purple mare walked up the aisle with a slight glare on her muzzle. He knew this look, she was trying to hide her emotions. He remembers many moments of which she broke this look, one moment, however, stood above the rest. The first time the two went on a date.
:.’Nother Flashback.:
“I didn’t know your kind doesn’t live to for that long... 40 years? That is short...” Stringy said.
“You seem sad...” Viper replied as she walked beside him.
“Well, it’s just... you don’t have a full life as I can. You don’t get to see the world or live happily without the thought of early decay. That’s sad... even for a monster like me.”
Stringy looked down at her. He was wearing his sunglasses that day since he didn’t want to scary anypony... yet. Stringy had picked up a book from the Golden Oaks Library with the only annoyance being Twilight Sparkle. Right now, Stringy was showing Viper around the park, showing her where the pond is, and stuff like that. Some ponies gave the two an odd look but they looked away upon seeing the glare from Stringy.
The two walked over to a nearby bench and sat down. They chatted about random stuff that came to mind, both at peace in this setting. However, that peace faded away when two younger boys walk up to them but had a look of bad intent on their faces.
“What is that thing?” One of the brats says disgusted, pointing an accusing finger at Viper.
“Yeah, looks like somepony got it out of the trash!” The other snickered as he motioned to Stringy.
“Hey! Leave him alone!” Viper countered, she stood up and pointed her tail at them.
“Or what? You can’t do anything! Your just a wild animal!” The white colt said as he gave her a mocking laugh.
“H-hey!”
“I bet she rolls in the dirt like one too!” The brown one snickered.
“I-I’m-!” Viper tried to counter, but she began to tear up. She sniffed softly as she tried her best to look like a threat. She failed and soon curled up into a tiny ball of tears.
“I bet-!” The little brat stopped as the large stallion stood up.
“Listen,” Stringy said in a low and dangerous tone,” I want you two brats to apologize to her, and to scram.”
The white colt snickered,” What are you gonna do, old man?”
Without a word, Strings grabs the colt’s collar and lifts him up so that they were face to face. The boy squirmed in Stringy's grasp, he even hit the stallions forelegs and chest, and on time punched him in the face. Though no of the punches affected him, he pulled the boy closer so that they could look each other in the eyes.
“It doesn’t matter what I’m gonna do...” Strings said as he reached up to grab his sunglasses,” It only matters how long it’s gonna take me .” With a quick motion, Strings removes his sunglasses and showed the colt that he had no eyes.
“A-AH! W-WHAT ARE YOU!?” he screamed, his friend had ran away when he saw the stallion approach.
“Doesn’t matter,” Strings said,”Now, I warned you to scram yet it appears that your ego is so big it weighed your body down a little. I’m gonna let you down, and if you don’t leave in three seconds... well, Tartarus is a lovely vacation spot this year, and I just so happen to have a ticket.”
To say the colt screamed like a filly would be an understatement, the kid screamed like a banshee. Strings dropped the kid as he let off a haunting laugh roaring into the wind that he was going to give the kid a bad time. The colt ran back to where he came from, he yelled for his mother as he booked it to the other side of the park. Stringy turned back to look at Viper, who had slowly stopped sobbing. For once he could feel his dead heart beat a single beat. He was surprised at first, his heart would never beat for anyone, none could do it... but Viper did.
Viper had buried her muzzle into her forelegs as she growled. She couldn’t understand why the colts made her feel bad, she was the alpha mare! She was in control... or was she? She began to wonder how to find a way to fight it, to make sure she wouldn’t feel this way anymore. She would’ve thought more, but two gentle hooves picked her up. She opened her eyes as she looked at the Stringy’s face. He pulled her close and gave her a hug. She wrapped her tail around his arm and cried into his chest. She hated being treated like a child... but for some unknown reason, she liked it when he did.
Then it hit her, she was on the look for a mate, somepony who was strong and could easily defend both of them. She thought she would have to go on a long and dangerous journey to find him. But... she didn’t have to wonder anymore, she was being held by him.
:.End of Flashback.:
Stringy looked down as Viper stood beside him. her hair was wavy and she was slightly taller.
‘Is she wearing high heels?’ Stringy mentally asked,’She’s pouting right now, she is defientintly wearing high heels.’
“Ladies and Gentlecolts! It is time!” a female voice started in rhyme,” We gather here today to greet this new couple! Even though they have caused some trouble~. They gave us pause when they asked to be wed and share a home with a new bed! The couples have written their own vows and with a bow I let them speak!”
Silence hung still over the alter as Zecora cleared her throat,” String Theory, do you take Viper Pit as your wedded wife?”
Stringy didn’t miss a heartbeat,” I do.”
Zecora nodded, she then turned to Viper and asked,” Viper Pit, do you take String Theory as your new wedded husband?”
“Yes,” Viper replied simply.
Zecora and a few ponies tried to hide their laughter, which confused the small mare slightly. When Zecora was finally able to talk normally again, she said,” Will you two protect this town from evil and protect the ponies within?”
“Yes,” Viper and Stringy both said at the same time. Viper thought next to nothing of it, but Stringy mentally glared at Celestia.
“I now pronounce you Mare and Stallion!” Zecora said happily.

chapter 1: Not the smoothest ride (edited)
*Scratch scratch scratch*
Stringy’s eyes softly opened from his sleep as he heard the scratching. He was tired since Viper wasn’t the easiest to put to bed, more so since she is pregnant. He sat up and stretched, giving off a low yawn and a slight shudder. He looked around the room, and in a rather tired voice, he said,” Viper, I think we have mice...”
“It’s not mice you dolt,” came Viper’s voice.
Stringy looked down at the bed to see that Viper wasn’t there at all, he looked over to the closed door and found where the scratching had been coming from. There stood Viper as she scratched wildly at the door with her hooves, a large pout on her face. Her mane was all tangled and messy... It had been a month since Viper had gotten pregnant, and some days it was alright, nothing too bad, others were like this one, Viper woke up cranky and demanded to eat the flowers of the cacti that grew in the desert, which he had bought and planted outside. In truth, he only found the plant because he had to follow her too where she got them, though that trip didn’t end well... but at least he got two of the cacti.
He shuffled off the bed and stood up, he gave a soft yawn as he walked over to the bedroom door. He turned the knob, and as soon as Viper sensed an opening large enough for her little body, she bolted through it, like a little filly or colt running to see what they got for Hearth’s Warming. The quick hoofsteps echoed throughout the silent house as Viper ran for the back door. Stringy opened the door the rest of the way and walked into the hallway, just in time to hear Viper bump into the glass backdoor. He sighed as he followed the noise.
*Scree Scree Scree*
Viper now pawed at the back door, ever once in a while, she slammed her hooves against it. She was tired of these doors for they stopped her from getting what she wanted. With a sad and angry bellow, she roared,” CURSE THESE DOORS! STRINGY! WHY DO WE HAVE TO HAVE DOORS!?”
“To make sure you don’t run off to Puppeteer knows where!” Stringy replied as he turned the corner. That earned a pout from Viper as she sniffed the reinforced glass door. Last time this fragile glass stood in her way to her rightful flowers she had smashed through it, somehow, she did not sustain any cuts, but only meer bruises from the impact into the glass. So, to her dismay, Stringy had gotten much stronger glass that absorbed magical attacks and such, so nothing would work.
Viper, being too focused on the flowers, didn’t notice Stringy as he stood above her until he opened the door. With a small squeak, her hooves slipped as her front half nearly hit the floor. Though, she was caught just in time by a dark purple aura.
“Just for that, your head is going into the fridge for an hour,” Viper mumbled as the purple aura let her go.
Viper readjusted herself then full on sprinted to the cacti, each one has an abundance of flowers for her to eat. Stringy would let her eat all of them, but Redheart was coming over soon and she needed some of them pronto. Also, Twilight was also coming over, her weekly checks on Viper’s development with the foal, or, as Viper wants to put it, her kit. So, with all of this, Stringy once again had to stop Viper from reaching the flowers.
“Grrrr,” Viper growled,” THAT IS STRIKE TWO STRING CHEESE! ANOTHER ONE AND YOUR BODY IS SLEEPING ON THE COUCH ALL NIGHT!”
“Viper,” Stringy said as he walked out to the cacti garden,” I would love for you to eat these flowers, for you to feel better, but you can’t eat all of them you know.”
“Grr...” Viper growled as her back legs started to wiggle as if she was trying to escape.
“And you know why, Viper,” Stringy said calmly as he walked over to the floating mare and pulled her into a small hug her up,” Tell me, why can you not eat every one of these poisonous flowers?”
“They’re not poisonous unless cooked...” Viper grumbled.
“Not the answer,” Stringy said softly as he used his magic to suspend her back into the air so that he could walk over to the gardens.
“Because Twilight said that I would get sick and it would mess up the data results,” Viper huffed as she crossed her hooves, her muzzle now scrunched up.
“And~?” Stringy said as he stopped.
“And that Nurse Redheart needs them for medicine...” Viper huffed once more,” Can I have at least five now?”
Stringy chuckled as he used his magic to pick up five of the flowers. He floated them over and gave them to the mare, who happily ate them whilst he looked for a basket. Once the basket was located, Stringy picked the flowers off of the cacti and placed them inside it, all while Viper ate the last flower and gave a slight hum at the fact her stomach was now settled. She looked at Stringy, then at the basket, then right back at Stringy, with a firm voice, she said, ”Let's head back inside so I can eat most of those... while you aren’t looking”
Stringy chuckled as he nuzzled the mare. He walked back inside with Viper on his back and the basket floating behind them and out of Viper’s reach. With the clank of the backdoor being shut, Stringy put the pregnant mare down and walked off to the kitchen to place the flowers in a place where Viper, nor a step ladder could reach. He then looked for ingredients to start breakfast.
As he searched for the eggs, he heard the sound of a very aggravated Viper as she hissed at something. Quickly, he ran out of the kitchen to see what it was, tripped and then fell facefirst onto the floor. He grumbled and got himself back up and walked the rest of the way to the living room. Viper stood at a window sill and hissed at... dogs. To be more specific, two dogs. The owners looked at the window in confusion as Stringy appeared behind the hissing mare. He grabbed the string to pull the curtains down, give a smile, and waved at the owner before he pulled down said string.
He looked down at Viper with a slight frown,” Why are you hissing at dogs that aren’t even in the yard?”
“Cause they can get into the yard!” Viper said as she pressed her nose against the glass.
“We have a chainlink fence around the yard, the only way those dogs could get in is if the owner chucked them over the fence!” Stringy argued.
“I don’t like the big woofers,” Viper said as she jumped down,” You have to fortify the house, I’m going to hide.”
“I-you...,” Stringy said as he looked at Viper with a deadpan expression,” I can’t just “fortify” this house because of a poodle and a CHIHUAHUA!”
“STRIKE TWO IN A HALF SOMETHING!” Viper yelled back.
“If anything could kill me, it wouldn’t be the Puppeteer, it would be this mare,” Stringy muttered as he facehoofed.
*Later after doing chores around the house*
“Alright, everything is nice and clean, Twilight and Redheart should be arriving soon,” Stringy said as he threw away some trash,” Now all I have to do is find Viper.”
Stringy sighed as he looked around,” And it is going to be harder than finding a needle in a large haystack...”
Stringy thought for a moment, maybe he would check her normal hiding places... so anywhere that was dark... this was going to be fun, wasn’t it. Though he had a cheat, since Viper liked snacks, he would make some to help in his search!
“But first!” Stringy said as he looked at his hooves,” I need to wash my hooves.”
Stringy entered the kitchen and turned on the sink. The rushing water blocked some noise around him, but before his hooves even went for the soap, he heard a weird tapping noise coming from under the sink. Stringy, now curious, leaned down and opened the cabinet below the sink. Once opened, he saw a familiar pink and pregnant mare as she batted lightly at the pipes that were connected to the sink.
“What...” Stringy said as he looked at her,” Well I guess I didn’t need to make snacks...”
This caught Viper’s attention as she stopped batting at the pipes and said,” What snacks? Where are they?”
“ I was going to make some to lure you out so that Twilight, well, when she gets here, could check up on you and the fo-”
“I said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times,” Viper said as she got up and booped Stringy’s nose,” HE is a kit!”
Stringy gently met Viper’s hoof with his own and lowered it and stated calmly,” Alright, to check up on the kit.”
“... Where are the snacks?” Viper asked.
“I said I didn’t make them yet,” Stringy said.
“What were you going to make?” Viper asked as she walked out from under the sink.
Stringy turned and looked at her, saying,” Well, maybe a sandwich or take out some of the cookies that were leftover in the fridge.”
Viper sniffed the air and turned to look at the fridge,” Can you make the sandwich? I’ll get the cookies.”
“I can’t back out of this, can I?” Stringy asked with a deadpan expression.
“Nope~!” Viper smiled as she hopped up and walked over to the fridge to grab the cookies.
“Of course...” Stringy said as he smiled and followed her.
Stringy grabbed the peanut butter and jelly, then grabbed the bread, and finally made the sandwich, though he decided to make two more for the guests. He handed Viper one of the sandwiches, who had to grab it with her tail since she was carrying a cookie with her mouth. When all that was said and done, Stringy put the two sandwiches that remained down on a plate and put them out for when the guests arrive.
While he waited, Stringy grabbed Viper and sat on the couch. Viper happily accepted and ate her cookie and sandwich while curled up next to him. They only had to wait a few minutes before there was a knock at their door. Stringy got up and answered it, revealing two mares, Twilight and Redheart. Twilight looked alright but Redheart looked to be on the verge of passing out or slapping a pony so hard they are sent straight through the sun. Stringy let them in, Twilight asked for the whereabouts of Viper and Redheart asked about the flowers. Stringy answered both in kind and told them to grab a sandwich if they felt hungry. What he didn’t expect was Redheart, who grabbed the flowers, shoved a sandwich in her mouth, gave him the bits, then left without another word.
“Shes... busy,” Stringy said with a confused expression as he walked into the living room. Apparently, the strange actions of Redheart had gotten the attention of Viper and Twilight... and Twilight held an empty needle. Stringy saw that Twilight took this chance and quickly poked Viper in the foreleg with the shot, earning a near instant reaction for the small pink mare as she started to hiss. Stringy quickly held the mare down as Twilight took some blood. Stringy let off a low growl and asked as Twilight removed the shot from Viper’s foreleg,” WHAT THE HECK!? I THOUGHT YOU SHOWED UP TO CHECK ON VIPER’S PREGNANCY!”
Twilight flinched and nearly dropped the needle, with a shaky voice, she said,” Sorry! I’m sorry I lied but I needed a blood sample from Viper!”
Stringy grumbled as he walked over and sat next to Viper. Viper scrambled up onto his back and laid down on it, her eyes firmly planted on Twilight.
“Well, to see if there are any normalities between pony blood and scorpony blood!” Twilight said,” Also! It could help, just in case any scorponies came to town and settled down like Viper!”
“That still doesn’t mean you steal my blood!” Viper hissed.
“Sorry,” Twilight,” But... I do have some questions, may I ask them?”
“One,” Viper said as she narrowed her eyes,” Or else.”
“A-alright...?” Twilight said as she pulled out a notepad,” The question, I guess, is that, did you two know you were compatible?”
“No,” Viper answered honestly,” I just wanted to get rid of my heat. Though I did want a kit of my very own.”
Twilight scribbled it down, then faced Stringy. Stringy answered,” I didn’t know either, though I wasn’t expecting a fo- kit, I did want to be a father one day.”
Twilight nodded, then wrote it down. Since she had used up her only question, she bid the two farewell and left, leaving the two alone. Stringy sat back and sighed. Viper, though still on his back, curled up and looked at him. Stringy knew that the mare was going to give him another call and ask if she could come back again to check up on Viper. Viper most likely would say no and go off somewhere in the house and dig a hole in the carpet, then proceed to lay down in it. Stringy sighed once more, he grabbed the small mare gently with his magic, pulled her down to his chest, and hugged her. She squirmed in his grasp a little, but soon melted into the hug but not without a small snort. Stringy knew she was going to be a challenge, but he accepted it completely.
Chapter 2: Monsters' Foal (edited)
With a foal, one can expect some difficulty. If not for the birth, then most likely looking after the small bundle of joy. Though this didn’t come as a surprise to String Theory or Viper Pit. After some… difficulty with the childbirth, Viper, and Stringy finally had a bundle of joy to call their own. The young colt’s name was Oasis Defender. The small colt was purple and had a curved horn, much like his father, a scorpion tail, much like his mother, and was very fluffy. This confused Viper, until she remembered who she had married, a stallion who was rather fluffy himself.
The colt was rather small, he could easily fit into Stringy’s hoof. The size of the foal scared them and baffled the doctors, who did some tests on the foal to see if he was healthy and alright. They knew that, with Viper’s size, that the foal would be small, but not this small. Not only that, but this was a very rare occurrence, hybrids of two creatures, let alone with a pony. Viper was less than happy when the doctors took her kit to test him for any problems, but Stringy told her why and calmed her down before the hospital had a rampaging scorpony mother on their hooves.
Though, when all that was said and done, Viper and Stringy happily went home a day later with their small and fluffy colt. Now, Viper was sitting in the colt’s room, happily watching over him and caring for him.
The small colt sniffed softly as he licked his mother’s muzzle. Viper returned the small lick with a gentle nuzzle, which caused the colt to purr as he curled up beside her on the soft carpeted floor of his small room. The room, as stated, wasn’t very big, though it was still comfortable. The room was painted a light blue, a small toy box was settled next to the crib Oasis slept in. The door was shut, but the slow creaking caused Viper’s eyes to narrow and her tail to get ready to attack. She still held this pose, even after the door opened to show her husband, who held a plate of food for her to eat.
“ Hey, dear.” Stringy said as he walked in and sat down next to her,” How are you?”
“I’m fine,” Viper replied as she shuffled a bit to look at Stringy more comfortably.
“I brought you some food,” Stringy said as he laid down some fries. Viper then noticed the two iron pills that she hated.
Stringy noticed the look and sighed,” Viper, I know you don’t like them but the doctor says you have to take them since you lost so much iron.”
“I know,” Viper grumbled,” They just don’t taste good at all… like when you cooked that changeling.”
“To be fair!” Stringy pointed out,” I didn’t know that the spices were old!”
“Still doesn’t help that it tasted bad,” Viper replied with a smirk as she nuzzled his side. Viper then noticed something missing from her meal. “Oh,” Viper’s head shot up,” You forgot the water.”
Stringy sighed and facepalmed,” I’ll be right back.”
Stringy stood up and left the room, his steps causing the small colt to wake up. He sniffed the air and gave little soft squeaks of surprise. Viper leaned down and comforted the small colt. Once the colt felt his mothers nuzzle he gently tried to nip at it, missing only slightly due to the fact he can’t see. This made Viper laugh a little bit before she gently nipped the small colts muzzle. The colt squeaked once more and curled up into a tiny ball of fluff. Viper wrapped her tail and him protectively as she heard Stringy come back in. He held a glass of orange juice, something that helped her absorb iron. Viper grumbled once more but grabbed the orange juice and the pills. With a small shiver, she chucked the pills in her mouth and chugged the orange juice.
“Ew…” Viper shuddered as the taste clung to her tongue,” How long do I have to take these?”
“Till the doctor says otherwise, dear.” Stringy replied with a shrug.
Viper looked at Stringy with a slight glare but ultimately sighed. To her, it was all worth it for her little fluff ball. Once the horrid taste of the pills became less apparent to her taste buds, she finally dug into the fries. Which… the fries only lasted a few seconds before they disappeared completely from the plate. Viper gave an audible lip smack as she licked her lips for any remaining bits of her meal. Stringy, even though he had seen her do this countless times, was still scared of the fact that it was gone in less than a few seconds. In truth, he was more afraid she would choke on it.
*Squeak~*
A soft squeak came from the colt as he crawled his way over his mother’s tail, but stopped halfway, having already tired himself out.
“I think he wants to see his father,” Viper said with a small smile.
Stringy chuckled and gently levitated the small form over to him. He gingerly held the very small form close to his own. The small colt gave many small squeaks as his tail wagged a little bit. Oasis laid his head down on top of his father’s hooves and gave off a small purr. Stringy felt a small hint of fear as he held the colt close to his heart. He could easily hurt the small form, even though he dared not to. Said small form wiggled a bit in his hooves to turn and lay his small head on his father’s chest to hear the heartbeat more. This made Stringy smile widely as the colt fell back asleep.
“Heh,” Viper chuckled, ”You seem to be able to calm him down easily.”
“Seems so.” Stringy chuckled lightly as he nuzzled the foal. The foal gave a tired squeak in response, making the two parents smile brightly. Stringy gently laid down on his back next to Viper as the foal slept on. His head rested against the carpeted floor, allowing Viper to crawl over and rest her head on his chest so that she could watch her foal. Her tail curled slightly out of instinct to protect the foal that was no longer at her side. She shuffled her legs a bit, then started to doze off, just like Stringy had started doing. Inside Viper’s thoughts, she knew they were weird, but that is why she loved the family so much, it was different to what she knew. She also had a loving husband and an adorable fluffy foal that she loves, and they love her back.
Chapter 3: Raising a foal (edited)
:The Light household:
Viper was curled up on the couch watching TV as her son got his meal. Her tail was curled around him protectively as well as her own body. Stringy was in the kitchen washing dishes from the breakfast they had. The channel that Viper was watching consisted of these weird puppets. The main puppet, whose name she didn’t care for, was red and had an orange nose. Right now he was doing something she didn’t understand, really, the only reason why she put up with this is for her colt. She heard a soft coo from Oasis, which signaled that he was done and would now either fall asleep or start playing with whatever he considered a toy. This time, the small colt reached up with his metal claws and grabbed his mothers braid and softly pulled on it.
“Ow! Hey!” Viper complained, she nuzzled his little forelegs away from her hair. She sighed softly as the colt looked at her with his grey-blue eyes,” Do you need something?”
“Gah!” Oasis replied as he lifted up his forelegs.
“A... Hug?” Viper asked with a confused expression.
“Gah!” Oasis confirmed, shaking his forelegs back and forth to emphasize his point of wanting to be picked up and shown affection.
“Okay, okay!” Viper replied, she wrapped one hoof around him and pulled him closer to her chest.
“Goo!” Oasis replied happily as he wrapped his forelegs around his mother’s neck.
“I don’t understand you...”
*Tail slam*” Goo!” Oasis replied.
“That’s my son!” Viper said happily.
Their attention was cut as the sound of the kitchen faucet was turned off and the sound of heavy hoofsteps headed towards them. Strings rounded the couch with a cup of coffee in his magical grasp. He picked up his wife and foal with his magic and sat down, laying the two next to him. The foal looked up at his father and raised his forelegs, wanting to be hugged by his father. His father noticed, then sat his mug down, and picked up his son. He pulled him to his chest and squeezed the small colt gently, his hoof moved down to scratch Viper’s ear to show that he didn’t forget her. Vipe purred and her tail slammed against the couch to show that she did enjoy the attention.
“So, how’s my little bundle of joy~?” Strings asked his son.
“Gah!” Oasis replied as he reached up to boop his father’s nose, his tail wagging back and forth.
As soon as the little hoof touched his nose his father said boop softly. Oasis started laughing loudly and if it wasn’t for his father holding him, he would’ve fallen back onto his mother. Viper looked up at her laughing son and smiled. Stringy’s hoof lifted from Viper’s head, much to her disappointment, and reached for the remote. Picking it up, he clicked the remote to another child-friendly channel, saying darkly that he hated puppets. This channel was playing a show about a talking sponge and starfish, something he didn’t understand how it came to television, but he didn’t mind. The sound of the two’s antics caught the small child’s attention and he struggled to turn himself around to watch it.
Though once he did, his small face lite up with much more joy than it had before,” GAH! GAH!” Oasis exclaimed excitedly, his small body struggling to jump whilst in his father’s embrace.
“Geez, you sure like this talking sponge,” Viper said as she looked over at the TV.
“It’s easier on us when I was a lad, all I could do was play with whatever I found, or farming and preparing for winter after school!”
“... What?” Viper asked, giving Strings a confused look.
“Wendigos, that’s what,” Strings replied.
“... Okay?” Viper said as she turned to watch the TV.
‘Disaster averted!’ Strings thought with a smile.
As the scene goes on, Oasis started to mumble incoherently. Strings looked down at his son as he tries to understand what he’s doing. Oasis closed his eyes and started to mumble much louder. He kept going until he could string together a single word.
“MADDY!” Oasis said excitedly! His face lite up brightly as he glanced between his mother and father, both of whom, were left in shock by his first words.
“What?” Viper asked as she stood up from her spot, her mouth opened wide.
“I... I think he said, Maddy?” Strings said with a confused face. Until it dawned on him,” OH! I think it’s a combination of mom and daddy!”
“MADDY! GAH!” Oasis confirmed as he slammed his tail against his father’s foreleg happily.
Strings laughed as he hugged his son, who kept saying the word. Viper started to jump up and down happily as she ran over to hug her son. The small colt giggled as both parents chuckled at his first words. Once the two parent’s happiness died down a little, they began to talk about what to do now.
“Maybe we should throw a picnic,” Strings said with a smile. Viper looked at him and thought about it. To her knowledge, a picnic is just eating, but outside, this was special!
“That sounds boring!” Viper argued,” Why not have a hunting party!”
Strings gave Viper a deadpanned look, but ultimately stopped as he remembered, that is something her kind does. Although that was tempting, he declined, saying that it was highly frowned upon in Equestria. Viper, upon hearing this, pouted and crossed her forelegs in annoyance, first she couldn’t take anything without paying, and now hunting party’s weren’t liked either. If it wasn’t for Strings and Oasis, she would be outta here.
“Fine...” Viper said, defeated,” Let’s go have a picnic...”
Strings smiled sweetly and Oasis giggled as he reached for his mother. The family soon started packing for the little picnic that had been planned just a few minutes ago. Viper packed the silverware while Strings made and packed the food. Oasis sat and watched them with his giant teddy bear. The teddy bear was taller than the child, but Oasis always loved it and gave it the official name of Bah! Once the food and silverware were packed, Strings grabbed the basket and Viper picked up the small colt by the scruff of his neck. The family soon exited the house and headed to the park.
On their way to the park, a few ponies looked at them. Some even said hi to the odd couple, while others awwed at the small colt being carried like a kitten. Though some were more rude or aggressive as they looked at them. A group of two mares and a stallion looked at them with a burning hatred. Strings felt the glares and looked over at the group, even without eyes, when Strings glares at you, you feel like the world around you freezes as he searches your soul. To only add to this horrid feeling was a smile that literally stretched from ear to ear, which showed off teeth that could put a dragon’s to shame. The group looked away at this, their ears all flat against their heads as they looked away. Viper didn’t notice the three ponies, but she did notice her husband’s movements. She looked at him, but couldn’t speak since she didn’t want to drop the lil purple fuzz ball she carried in her mouth. Strings shrugged it off, explaining that it wasn’t anything important. Viper just stared at him, and once again, Strings said to not worry about it.
The rest of the walk to the park wasn’t that far and relatively silent. Sometimes a pony or two would ask to hold Oasis. When they did, Oasis would mew and reach for their muzzles, some let him grab onto it, other’s had to dodge his little hooves. Yet, that didn’t delay the family’s time together. They had finally reached the park.
“Here, I know a great spot,” Stringy said.
“Phfair?” Viper asked.
“Follow me!” Stringy replied. Secretly, he thought,’ And you’ll see, a world of pure imagination!’
Viper nodded slightly and followed him to their destination. They passed by some trees and a small leaf fell into Oasis’s hooves. So, acting like a normal toddler would... He started to nibble on it. Viper squeaked and realized that she didn’t pick him back up by the scruff of his neck. She quickly put him down and picked him back up this time by the scruff of his neck. Oasis didn’t drop the leaf, it was still in his mouth and held by his tiny hooves. Viper allowed this, as long as he wasn’t chewing and swallowing it. Stringy stopped and watched as Viper trotted up to him again, Oasis looked up at him with a leaf in his mouth and a wide-eyed stare on his face. Stringy chuckled as he and Viper continued walking to their destination.
*A few minutes later*
“Here we are!” Stringy said.
Viper looked and saw that this area was next to a large pond and that Stringy had chosen to have lunch under the shade of a large tree. She was glad that they had arrived since Oasis was getting slightly heavier... Or her mouth was tired from carrying him. Stringy laid the blanket down and put the basket in the middle. Viper walked over and laid the foal on it. Oasis felt the soft blanket and giggled. Soon, he stood up and waddled all over it, exploring this new red and white blanket. The two parents watched as the small foal explored as they unpacked their lunch.
“Curious little guy huh,” Stringy replied with a smile.
“Yes,” Viper replied simply as she watched the foal wonder and babble to himself.
Oasis was having a jolly ol’ time, exploring the blanket of red and white, but his mind now focused on the bright green grass that stood tall around the tree. He wondered over to the very edge of the blanket and looked down at the ocean of green. He leaned in closer, close enough to the tallest blade of grass and sniffed it. It smelled... Weird to him, but not weird enough to eat! He took a bite out off the top of the blade of grass and started nibbling away on it. He couldn’t understand why it tasted as weird as it smelled because Viper picked him up and took the piece out of his mouth.
“MEW!*Tail slam of annoyance*” Oasis complained as he reached for it.
“Oasis no!” Viper annoyed.
“What?” Stringy asked as he put down a sandwich.
“Oasis, don’t eat that!” Viper replied, throwing the blade of grass back into the endless sea of it.
“MEW!” Oasis screamed as he watched it disappeared.
“Uh...” Stringy’s ears fell to the back of his head as he said,” Lunch is ready?”
“Yes!” Viper smiled and carried Oasis over her shoulder and to the middle of the blanket.
“Alright,” Stringy said,” Here is my sandwich, Viper, I got you some boneless chicken wings, and Oasis-”
“Mew?” Oasis replied, getting lose from Viper’s grasp and waddled over to him. He looked at his father as Stringy pulled out a bottle.
“I got you your bottle-” Stringy said.
“Hey! Why would you waste time on that when I have milk!” Viper argued.
“Because,” Stringy said,” Oasis needs to learn to drink from a bottle, he can’t keep getting milk from you.”
“Hmph!” Viper replied, grabbing her chicken wings and biting into them.
“Mew! Mew!” Oasis replied, turning around and trying to get to Viper.
“Oh no you don’t,” Stringy replied, leaning down and scooping up the small fluff ball.
“Mew!” Oasis complained as he struggled to escape his father.
“Oh calm down,” Stringy replied as he grabbed and held the bottle in front of the foal.
“Mew?” Oasis asked and looked at the bottle. He poked the side of it with his hoof, which caused the bottle to make a “tak” noise. Oasis looked at the bottle’s nipple and booped it. He sniffed it and then leaned forward and nibbled on it. Stringy’s ears lifted up as his son nibbled on the rubber.
“A-ah, Oasis, no,” Stringy replied.
*Muffled Mew*
Oasis bit down harder on the rubber, causing a small amount of milk to come out. Upon feeling the milk, he started to suck on it, causing more milk to come out. Finally, the small colt was getting his meal and Stringy thought it was time for him to eat his. He used his magic and lifted up his sandwich and took a bite.
*After the meal*
Oasis was running around on the grass with Viper and Stringy watching from a distance as he chased a butterfly. He tripped sometimes as the butterfly fluttered in the wind. The wind blew in the opposite direction which caused the butterfly to move in that direction. Oasis tried to turn with it but tripped and fell face first into the ground. Viper jumped up and looked down at her son with worry. Yet, he looks up and shook his head then stood back up, he looked for the butterfly that had escaped his sight. He looked and found the butterfly as it hovered next to a large puddle of mud, but he didn’t care, the butterfly that he thought was made of butter was first and foremost! He lowered his front half as he readied to pounce on the small insect.
He snuck up behind it slowly, the butterfly could be none the wiser as his eyes narrowed. He crawled closer as he remembered that time his mother was chasing that weird red dot. Once he felt that he was close enough to the butterfly, he waited to see if it would move. Okay, he couldn’t wait that long, he wiggled his hips and pounced.
“MEW!” Oasis yipped happily as he tried to wrap his claws around the small creature. He felt it start to move around his closed claws with worry. He didn’t care that the butterfly was moving frantically or the fact that the ground was a little slippery, all he cared about was getting his prize back to his mother to show what he had learned from her!
He opened his claws slightly to look at his prize. The butterfly, to him, didn’t look like any butter he has seen before! It was dark blue and black, maybe moldy butter? It didn’t matter to him much, food was food after all! He leaned forward and softly bit down on the frantic butterfly’s wing. It tried to fight back with constant soft wing hits, but all that did was make Oasis giggle since it’s soft. Happy from his catch, he turned to race back to his parents. Yet again, he turned to fast and slipped into the mud puddle, covering himself and the small butterfly in the mud. He tried to stand up but slipped again, covering himself and his little prey/ friend in more mud. After a few more failed attempts he finally got out of the mud puddle, which held less mud then it did before. This didn’t quell his excitement his catch the butterfly and he ran right for his parents, who, have been talking.
“I’m thinking of becoming a history teacher,” Stringy replied.
“Um... Good job!” Viper said, not knowing what that was.
“You don’t- um...” Stringy looked back at where Oasis was to see a now mostly covered in mud with something in his mouth.
The small colt ran up to the blanket and sat down, his father held back his laughter as his mother ran over to him.
“Oasis!” Viper exclaimed upon looking at the colt,” What happened?!”
He mewed softly as he placed the butterfly down and pointed at it. He smiled as Viper looked down as well at his prize.
Viper leaned down and sniffed the small thing, she smiled as she both saw and smelled the butterfly. She jumped up and exclaimed,” He caught his first prey! Stringy, come look!”
Stringy got up and sat near the two to see the “prey” Oasis has captured. Stringy chuckled as he gently leaned down and picked up the prey with his magic. He couldn’t hold back his chuckle as he saw that the small prey was a butterfly.
“Good job, kiddo!” Stringy replied,” Your reward is a bath!”
Oasis looked up at his father with large eyes, he cocked his head to the side and replied,” Mew?”
Viper looked at him then back at Oasis. She knew Stringy saw her do this, so she stuck her tongue out and picked up the small colt, all three knew what was going to happen. Stringy narrowed his eyes as Viper leaned forward.
“Viper, no,” Stringy said,” No cleaning with your tongue, not this time.”
“You can’t stop- HEY!” Viper shouted as Oasis disappeared from her hooves.
Viper glared at Stringy as he held the small colt. Stringy stared back as he repositioned the colt to where both were comfortable, Oasis opting to lay on his side. Viper jumped up and ran over to Stringy, her frown explained her disappointment. Stringy stood up and used his magic to collect the things and soon, the small family made their way back home.
The sun was setting, much to the surprise of Viper and Stringy. Oasis had fallen asleep when they had reached the entrance of the park, his soft purrs echoing in the still air. The night sky was falling over them as a cold wind blew past them. Stringy loved the night, the beautiful stars in the sky and the moon... it made him feel at home with his past, made him feel safe. Viper was the opposite, she liked the morning and the sun. Why, he didn’t really know, cause Viper wouldn’t really tell him a direct answer. He took it as she liked the warmth of the sun. This became more apparent as Viper was closer to him as the temperature dropped. Ponyville was quite empty now, only a few were out, either setting up shop or something of the like. He didn’t notice the two ponies walking in front and to the side of them. One of the ponies bumped Stringy’s shoulder, rather harshly, as if they wanted to. Oasis sturred in his sleep with a rather annoyed mew as he looked up at his father. Stringy glared back at where the ponies were... but they were gone. Confused, he looked forward and continued on their way home.
...
Once they had gotten home Stringy gave Oasis a bath and put him to bed. Which was slightly difficult since he had already fallen asleep then woke up. Yet, it worked, and Oasis soon fell asleep... Until he started mewing in the middle of the night as revenge for waking him up during his nap. Then fell asleep on his own with a soft poof coming from the room as he laid down on his pillows.
Chapter 3.5 Viper No! (Edited)
“...WHAF O YOU MEANF I AN’T?!” Viper’s roar was muffled by the confused colt in her mouth.
“Viper! HE IS 2 YEARS OLD!” Stringy yelled back,” HE IS TOO YOUNG!”
The Light household was much more alive today than most others. The family had awoken and got ready for the weekend. They did their daily routines, Stringy cooking breakfast for Viper and him while Viper feed Oasis his own, much to her dismay Stringy “forced” her to use the bottle. The day was going well... until Viper tried to kick Oasis out. Stringy didn’t know until he saw Viper pick up the mewing foal and walk him over to the door. He confronted her, and what she said was made him very confused and slightly angry.
“... Viper what are you doing with Oasis?” Stringy asked as he took off his arpen.
“Ophasus ifs olf enouf to leaf,” Viper replied.
“... What?” Stringy asked, leaning down so he could be eye to eye with Viper,” Viper I can’t understand you with your mouth full...”
Viper put the foal down softly and put a hoof on his stomach ( Which caused the colt to giggle) and said again,” Oasis is old enough to LEAVE.”
Stringy looked at Viper with a very confused look. After it clicked in his head what she had just said, he replied,” No... Viper you can’t do that.”
“Why not?” Viper countered with a pointed look.
“Because he ISN’T old enough to be kicked out,” Stringy said.
“Yes he is, he can speak and walk and is 2 years!” Viper replied matter of factly,” He is old enough to go out and start his OWN pack!”
“No, he isn’t,” Stringy countered, slightly angered,” This may be normal in your culture, but not ours. AND HE BARELY SPEAKS ANYTHING FROM THE EQUIS DIALECT!”
“SO!?” Viper growled as she picked up the small colt again.
“VIPER NO! YOU CAN’T DO THAT!” Stringy shouted as he ran over and stood between the door and the mare.
“Welf HE IS OLF ENOUGH!” Viper growled.
“Viper, I told you I can’t understand you with your mouth full!” Stringy replied.
“FINE!” Once again she lowered the colt back down to the carpet. Oasis was much more confused at this, but he knew that his mother was trying to get rid of him. As the two argued, Oasis started to make a B-line towards his father, he knew that he wouldn’t get rid of him! Though, he didn’t have to go far, since he felt something wrap around his body. For a second, he couldn’t feel anything, and the next, he was held close by his father.
“HEY! THAT'S NOT FAIR!” Viper yelled.
Stringy acted like he didn’t hear Viper as he walked away from the door. In a calm voice, he told Oasis,” Here ya go kiddo, go play.”
He used his magic to hover him and place him back where he was, playing with his toys, and put the small colt among his various playing toys, Oasis soon forgot about the yelling and the argument and went to work, building and playing with his friends of plastic, wood, and cloth. He shall build his EMPIRE!
But while Oasis built his empire with Sir Fluffy, his teddy bear, Stringy went back to arguing with Viper.
“WHY DID YOU DO THAT!?” Viper roared.
“Because he is too young, we just can’t...” Stringy said as he readied to tell Viper of what this world was like, what he had seen and heard,” He... he can get kidnapped and sold into work... he could die of starvation without our help... he can... he can... disappear without anything left of him...”
This planted a seed of worry into her mind that now grew quickly. Though she had an ace up her non-existent sleeve. She looked up at Stringy with newly found confidence,” I didn’t get kidnapped or die!”
Stringy struck back in a heartbeat, this made Viper’s confidence drop fast and her worry grow,” Still, he needs his mother, he isn’t you.”
Viper didn’t know what to do, so she turned her back and said softly,” If you need me... I’ll be in the backyard...”
“Viper...” Stringy started.
“No... just get me when it’s dinner time, alright?” Viper asked.
“...Alright, but just come back to bed tonight, I don’t want you in the backyard all night,” Stringy said.
“Ok...” Viper agreed.
...
Later that day
...
The family had just eaten dinner, Stringy grilled a snake that Viper had found digging holes in the backyard. Neither he nor Oasis were gonna eat the snake but he felt like Viper needed a treat, he also knew he would have to patch them up, but that could wait. Oasis was feed, but by his father, he was still a little shaken by the events earlier today. Not only that but it seemed that his entire Empire of Mews had been moved to his room by a mysterious force. He thought Sir Fluffy did it, and he would have to talk to him later about magic. Though that could wait, now, he was being carried to his room by his mother. He didn’t squirm or mew, he stayed silent as he was both walked there and then lowered into his bed. Sir Fluffy was already waiting for him, as well as a soft blanket and fluffy pillow. He couldn’t read, but he remembered his father said it had his name on it.
Viper had set the small colt in his bed and walked off, turning off the lights as she left. Now it was time for her and Stringy to head to bed, but the guilt of almost throwing her kit out into a dangerous world alone, that made her hurt. What made it worse, is that Oasis didn’t mew, he didn’t say mommy or anything. She knew that this was going to stick to her for a while, but now, her bed awaits her and, hopefully, the realm of sleep.
Stringy was already in under the covers with a book in his hooves when she climbed onto the bed. She was kinda tired for a while, she was ready for sleep. She laid down in her spot on Stringy’s chest, but she was jittery as random thoughts of what could have been if she had succeeded, it raced through her mind, each one worse then the last, she couldn’t help but think about it. She tried to ignore them and laid back down on Stringy’s chest... then got back up again, moving slightly to the right or left, as if trying to get comfortable. Yet that never came to pass, and her patience had worn thin, she was too unfocused. Before she knew it, she was up and had started to nibble on Stringy’s foreleg, which caught his attention.
“Viper, are you okay?” he asked calmly as he put the bookmark in his spot and laid down to the side.
Viper didn’t say anything as she continued to nibble on his foreleg. She heard him sigh and let go as his foreleg moved away from her. Stringy took the silence as his hint.
“Are you stressed because of what I told you?” Stringy asked as he pulled her close.
Viper nodded softly. Stringy sighed,” Listen, you didn’t know, and it was just what you are used to.”
She still didn’t speak. Stringy knew that it wasn’t worth talking anymore then he did, so he went with plan B. He placed his hoof on her back and softly petted her. Viper’s softly purred as she calmed down... but her mind still was on Oasis. That is when a plan popped in her head, but she would need to wait for Stringy to fall asleep.
‘Joy,’ Viper thought as she laid down comfortably on his chest, and waited...
---a couple of minutes later---
When Viper felt Stringy’s breathe slow and calm, she knew he had finally fallen asleep. She couldn’t do the same though, her soul panged with guilt from nearly throwing her son, her kit , out into a world of such evil, that she couldn’t sleep, not without fearing for him. She tried to gently stand up on Stringy’s chest, and was somewhat successful at doing so, but slipped off and onto one of Stringy’s forelegs. Grunting softly, she pulled herself up and jumped off the bed, knowing her destination by heart.
---In Oasis’s room---
Viper opened the door and walked in, not bothering to close it as she looked for the light switch. After a few seconds, she stopped, as her natural night vision had built up. She could see the crib and a small form slept underneath a blanket. She gingerly shuffled across the floor all while she dodged and stepped over toys that she had “bought” for Oasis. Once she cleared the plastic and cloth landmines she had only a few more steps until she reached the crib. One step forward and she tripped on something. It wasn’t plastic or cloth, it felt like wood. Viper growled softly as she turned and picked up the wooden block. When she examined it, it was a red ‘M’. She put the block down next to the other ones and picked them up as well, being gentle as to not ruin whatever they spelled...
they spelled, Mom 1...
Viper was confused as to what emotion this meant, but she decided to think about it later, her kit was right there. Standing back up to her full height, she cleared the distance, got up on her hind legs, and looked down at the sleeping form of her kit. Her heart melted slightly at the sight of her kit wrapped up in his blanket, (much how one would wrap a burrito), and slept soundly. This stopped her, but not for long as she leaned down and picked the small colt up. He was awake now, though barely, he still managed a confused mew.
Viper gently got down and laid the small colt down as well. She watched as he looked around, slightly shaking from either the coldness of the room or the fact that he was awakened from his sleep. Either way, he noticed his mother and crawled to her. He was slow, as he tried to keep perfect balance while also trying to fight off sleep. His mission was a success as he reached her. He mewed softly as he sniffed her, just before booping her chest with his muzzle.
“Mo-ommy?” the small shaking form asked.
Viper leaned down and nuzzled the small colt as she curled around him quickly. Once again, the small colt mewed but didn’t complain at the feeling of warmth, and the smell of something familiar. It didn’t take long for Oasis to start purring happily as he slowly drifted back off to sleep.
Viper would’ve let him, but instead, her plan was only halfway completed. She knew that if she stayed here, Stringy would get worried, something she didn’t want to have to deal with that in the morning. Instead, she leaned down, softly nuzzled the colt then picked him up by the scruff of his neck and made her long journey back to her bed.
---Back in the bedroom---
Viper climbed back up onto the bed and felt slightly tired now. She walked over to the edge of Stringy’s body as it reached the edge of the covers and slowly lifted up the blanket and went under it, she tried her best to make sure the colt didn’t drag across Stringy’s body. She reached the opening of the blanket and popped her head out, the colt sniffed the area softly and tiredly. Viper laid down the colt then herself, Oasis mewed softly, too tired for words as he snuggled under his mother’s pink fur and against his father. Viper was tired now, more than when she went to grab Oasis. Her quest for sleep and forgiveness from her colt was almost complete, now she just had to sleep. Oasis had fallen asleep, his soft mews of slumber reached Viper's ears as she closed her eyes, sleep would be hard, but, this time, she had a little bundle of joy, mews, and fluff to accompany her to the land of sleep.
Chapter 4: First day of school
“Bye, mommy! Bye, daddy!” Oasis said early as he waved at them. They waved back with smiles as he walked out the door. Oasis was now in the third grade, and couldn’t be any more excited! First, though, he had to meet up with his friend Mudbray. He's a donkey and they’ve been friends since kindergarten. They sometimes have a sleepover at his house because Viper doesn't like for strangers to be at their house.
Oasis was wearing a light blue saddle pack that had pencils and paper and stuff in it. His dad says that he’ll need it in this grade. Oasis was now in town and had just passed Pinkie’s place, Sugar Cube Corner. Mudbray told him to meet at the Town Hall, so he had to walk some more before he could get there. Some of the ponies looked at him with smiles and some even waved. Though there were these three ponies who didn’t do either, they looked at Oasis but frowned, all of them, judging him like he did something wrong and got away with it while they got punished. His father warned him not to talk to strangers, especially if they look unfriendly or ask him to follow them, where he is out of sight.
“Hey, thing,” Oasis heard a voice from behind him. Turning around, he saw a light brown unicorn with a bright yellow mane... like macaroni. He was tall and was wearing glasses, scaring Oasis slightly. He looked down at Oasis with a glare, not even his smile hid the fact that he was forcing his happiness. He said,” Why don’t you come with me? I have... crickets covered in chocolate for you!”
Oasis looked at the stallion, weirded out that he had chocolate crickets. Oasis stepped back a little bit and said to him,” No... I have to go!”
Oasis turned to walk away, but the stallion grabbed his foreleg. With a growl, the stallion asked, ”Were ya goin’ lil... thing?”
“I'm not supposed to talk to strangers, leave me alone,” Oasis squeaked, hoping that the stallion didn’t hear it.
He pulled Oasis closer with his magic and whispered angrily again,” Listen here you little brat, you’re coming with me now. ”
Oasis remember Viper saying that if he mew, she’ll come to his rescue.
“MEW!” Oasis mewed as loudly as he could, which confused the stallion who loosened his grip on Oasis’s foreleg.
“What the h-” the strange stallion said, but was... interrupted by the sound of a bush rustling. Oasis and the stranger looked at the origin of the sound and saw Viper. She looked mad, her face showed nothing but anger. She had a look that could stop a train in its tracks
Viper fired her signature spell Pin Missile forcing the stallion to flee. It is well known that Viper is overprotective of her baby boy even stating on multiple occasions that she will die to protect him and more than willing to kill for the same reason.
“Oasis! Are you okay?” she asked as she hugged her son tightly.
“Yes, momma!” Oasis replied back to her happily.
“I knew something wrong was going to happen, but I didn’t listen...” Viper said.
“Thanks, mom!” He hugged her happily,” But I have to go to school now!”
“No, not by yourself you’re not!” she said angrily,” Get on my back, I’m taking you.”
"But mom it will be embarrassing! None of the other kids has to ride on their parent’s backs." Oasis tried to inform her.
"Other kids weren't recently almost kitnapped now get on." She ordered and Oasis knew that he wasn't gonna win this, so he got on her back and began moving, the wrong way...
"Mom... schools the other way."
"....I knew that." She says quickly turning around.
"Sure you did mom," Oasis laughed.
*After ten minutes of walking around*
Oasis saw my friend, Mudbray waiting by the town hall, he tried to get off Viper’s back but she wouldn’t let him, telling him if he did, he would be grounded.
Oasis smiled and said happily,” Hi Mudbray! Ready for school?”
“I sure am!” He said happily,” Is your mom taking you?”
“Well-” Oasis tried to say but his mother interrupted him.
“Yes, but first, how does ice cream sound?” she said.
“But... shouldn’t we go to school?” Mudbray asks.
“You will, but first, let's get ice cream,” Viper said. Without telling Mudbray to follow her, the small group headed to the nearest ice cream vendor. Mudbray got Rockyroad, Oasis got Chocolate, and Viper got vanilla with gummy worms.
Oasis, still riding on his mother’s back had finally eaten the rest of his ice cream while Mudbray had only eaten some of it. It wouldn’t have been too bad if it wasn’t for the fact Oasis had gotten more ice cream around his mouth, ice cream wasn’t very common in his household, he didn’t know why but it just wasn’t, so little moments like this made him happy. Mudbray just laughed at Oasis’s mess as they were close to the school. The two were taking their time until... the bell rang.
Like two racers, the two bolted towards the building, hoping the door was still open. They weren’t... but they wouldn’t give up!
“Okay... we are locked out of a building that we need to get into...” Mudbray pondered,” I’ve heard of ponies getting in by something called... ‘lock picking’... but I don’t know how to do it!”
“Well... maybe we can go to the back door?” Oasis asked.
“...Does the school have a ‘backdoor’?” Mudbray asked.
“I dunno,” Oasis replied.
“Well it’s worth a try-” Mudbray started but was cut off by the sound of the door opening.
“Why you two colts standin out ‘ere?” An old stallion asked, his glasses reflecting the two colt’s reflection.
Both were surprised by the stallion. He was big and had light grey fur with a white mane, he also was wearing a pair of glasses.
“We- we uh!” Oasis stammered.
“What my friend is trying to say is that we are trying to get in to get to class!” Mudbray said with a forced smile, trying to act calm.
“Is that so?” The old stallion asked,” Well... what‘re names?”
“My name is Mudbray!” Mudbray said offering the old stallion his hoof.
The stallion accepted his hoof and then turned to Oasis,” Now! Who are you!”
“M-m-my name is O-Oasis Defender!” Oasis said, holding out his hoof for the stallion as well.
Once again the stallion took his offer. With a firm hoofshake, the older stallion said,” My name is Over Watch, and I’m the principal of this school! You two need to come with me to my office!”
“U-uh why s-sir Over Watch?” Oasis asked.
“First, you two are twenty minutes late to class! Not only that, you two are outside the school!” He stated,” Now come on! In my office now!”
Mudbray and Oasis looked at each other both having the same thought,’ Ah cheese...’
*In the principal's office*
“You're saying that your mother took you and your friend for ice cream, and then you walked here?” Over Watch asked.
“Y-yes, sir!” Oasis said with a rather feverish nod.
“And he was almost-HMM!” Mudbray mouth was covered by Oasis’s metallic hoof.
“Well... since it was a fault that you couldn’t control... I’ll let you off with a warning today,” Over Watch said,” Now head to class or I’ll revoke my statement.”
“Revoke?” Oasis asked.
“Take back what I’ve said, now head to class!” Over Watch said.
Oasis and Mudbray nodded and exited the office. With a shaky breath, the two headed to class.
“I’m glad he let us off the hook...” Mudbray gasped,” Let’s head to class before the teacher does the same thing eh?”
Oasis sighed softly, ”Yeah... though how did you manage to stay calm during that?”
The two neared their classroom as Mudbray said,” I honestly was about to scream when we went to the principal’s office...”
Oasis and Mudbray stopped at their home classroom, the sound of other colts and fillies could be heard. Oasis raised his hoof and knocked on the door. The sound stopped and the new sound of hoofsteps coming to the door was heard by the two. With a click, the door unlocked and opened, revealing a young mare.
The mare was dark grey with a light brown mane. She had on a slightly disappointed look as she stared at the two. With a firm yet gentle voice she asked,” Are you two Oasis Defender and Mudbray?”
The two nodded as she asked again,” Why are you two late? You almost missed the pizza party!”
Mudbray smiled happily,” Pizza party!?”
Oasis shook softly,” Party?”
Mudbray looked at Oasis with a confused look, then noticed the shacking, With a soft nudge, Mudbray said,” Don’t worry Oasis! Come on! We can meet new friends!”
Like a moth to light, this had caught his attention. He didn’t think twice as he said,” Really!?”
The teacher, noticing the now happy colt, said just as happily,” Of course!”
Oasis nodded, with his nod of approval, the two started to walk in, but the teacher had a different idea. She moved forward and shut the door behind her. She leaned down to look the two in the eyes and asked calmly,” Why were you two late?”
Oasis had lost the happiness in a second when he looked at her now. Yet Mudbray didn’t hesitate, his fear finally gripping him. With a long breath, he said,” I was waiting for Oasis but I waited longer than I thought I would’ve, then I saw Mrs.Light with Oasis and asked if he was ready to go to school! But Mrs. Light said we should go get ice cream first and we did! When I and Oasis were heading back, he told me about how he was almost kitnapped by a bad stallion, saying that this mother scared him off! So then we got here and the doors were locked, but then Mr. Watch opened them and took us to his office, we told him everything and now I and Oasis are here! And now my brain hurts!”
The teacher took a minute to take in the information, then gasped,” Does the principal know of this almost foal-er kitnapping?”
Mudbray’s ears fell to the side of his head,” Uh... no?”
The teacher sighed, clearly shaken,” Y-you two head inside the classroom, I’ll call Mr. Overwatch and tell him. Next time, you need to tell an adult if that happens again! Okay?”
The colts nodded and headed inside when the teacher opened the door.
Inside, the class had gone silent when they saw the teacher and the two enter. The teacher told the two to go and find a seat while she called the principal. With high hopes that they’ll find a seat next to each other, they set out. The two saw some of their old classmates from 2nd grade and a few new faces. The ones Oasis new greeted him happily while the new ones looked at him with both interest and fear, not knowing what he truly was. But as he pasted each face, neither of them could find two seats next to each other. only finding ones that were far apart. Mudbray, being the friend he was and knowing that Oasis hated the front seat, took it while Oasis took the back one.
Happily taking up the offer, he went back and set up there, putting his backpack next to his seat. He took out is pencils and paper with his mouth rather than his magic, but couldn’t shake the feeling of somepony staring at him. He tried to ignore it, not wanting to get more attention. But he caught a glance as he bent back up to place his paper on his desk. A filly was staring at him, and rather fiercely from what he could tell. He ignored her for a second... but he couldn’t as he heard her desk creak like she was leaning over to him.
“M-mew?” Oasis blushed as he didn’t mean to say that. He glanced at her.
This scared the filly as she turned away as nothing had happened. By this time, the teacher had gotten off the phone and said that they were going to have a quick lockdown drill. Oasis felt that today was going to be interesting...
Chapter 5: Close Call (edited)
The bell rang aloud, signaling the end of Oasis’s day. Truth be told, he liked his teacher and the school, but he knew there was no place like home, no place at all. He put his pencils back into his backpack and put it on. His first day of school a success! Even if there was that bully, but Oasis tried not to let his insults get to him. Mudbray had packed up as well and was waiting for Oasis by the door.
Oasis walked to his friend, and the two went to exit the school. Mudbray had also gotten picked on because he was different, and as the bully called him, ”Poorer than a homeless pony.” Mudbray threw an apple at him because of that. After Mudbray had gotten in trouble, the two went back to class and spent the rest of the time there, learning. Now, it was time for Oasis to head home, he hid his absolute joy, not because he was leaving, more of the fact that he could tell his parent’s about his first day, something the two always seemed interested in listening too.
“Hey Oasis,” Mudbray said with a smile,” Ready to leave?”
“Yup!” Oasis chirped happily.
“Then... lets-a-go!” Mudbray said with a smirk as he turned and walked down the hall.
Oasis scampered after him, even though Mudbray was only slightly taller than the colt, he was still a good few inches taller.
The two walked down the hall, now in a discussion about the latest comics.
“Have you heard about the new Power Ponies comic?” Oasis asked.
“Which one?” Mudbray smiled,” Cause they’ve been mass making them!”
“The one with the Infinity Horseshoes!” Oasis smiled,” And that Minotaur... what was his name?”
“Popper? The Minotaur from that destroyed planet?” Mudbray pointed out.
“Yeah! Him!” Oasis chuckled,” Though I know Cap could easily defeat him!”
Mudbray snorted,” Oh yeah! Use the old stallion to defeat the Minotaur!”
Oasis snorted back and pointed at him,” At least he’s better than the stallion that hides behind an iron suit!”
“Cap hides behind a shield!”
“But it doesn’t cover his whole body!” Oasis argued smugly.
“Lasers,” Mudbray concluded,” Nuff said.”
Oasis and Mudbray had gone back an forth on who they thought would win against Popper, yet they didn’t notice the filly following them outside. She had followed them, mainly focusing on Oasis as he spoke... which confused her. She had a very light blue mane with a few stripes in it, her eyes were light green, and her coat was a creamy white, and she was an earth pony. Even as they left the building, now talking about something else, she followed.
“Yeah, but you gotta read the second one to understand the first one, its weird,” Oasis said.
“Tweet tweet!” said a small bird that was hovering above them. The two looked up and Mudbray frowned while Oasis looked at the bird with confusion.
“Great,” Mudbray furrowed his eyebrows,” Birds...”
“Don’t worry, its just a bir- AHHH!”
Mudbray followed the example and screamed as well... and so did the filly following them. The reason why was that the bird had dive-bombed them and landed on Oasis’s shoulder. Oasis responded by looking back at the bird and he automatically recognized it, this bird’s name was Cinnamon.
“CINNAMON!” Oasis yelled, causing the bird to tweet at him. The bird was a light brown color with some dots on her wings that were slightly darker.
“Y-you know this bird?” Mudbray asked, giving the bird a glare.
“Yeah, she's a nice bird and one of the rescues that Fluttershy helped!” Oasis replied, giving the bird a quick nuzzle.
“Alright... but who else screaaaaa-” Mudbray turned and saw the filly that had been trailing them,” Um... who are you?”
“O-Oh!” the filly backed up a bit, giving a small blush,” My names Peachie!”
Peachie seemed kind enough to Oasis until she said something that confused the both of them,” I was wondering about the talking, purple kitty!”
“... what?” Mudbray and Oasis said at the same time.
“That one!” Peachie pointed at Oasis and smiled,” He’s adorable!”
“I’m... not a kitty...” Oasis said with a confused look.
“Ya but you act like one...” Mudbray muttered,” I wouldn’t be surprised if you ate a bird alive before.”
“TWEET!?” Cinnamon replied and glared at Oasis.
“I do not!” Oasis huffed, puffing his chest up to look threatening... but that only managed to make him look like a walking fluff ball.
Peachie gasped loudly,” HE’S SO FLUFFY!”
Oasis blushed and glared at her even though he knew it to be true. Mudbray started to laugh at this and said,” You bet he is! OH! You should see him during winter! He’s even fluffier!”
“NOT HELP-INNNNNGG!” Oasis was cut short as he felt himself get hugged. Peachie had picked him and hugged him from behind.
With a squee, she claimed,” I want to keep this kitty!”
Oasis blushed at the hug and started to mew in protest. This started to make Mudbray laugh uncontrollably as he fell onto his back. Cinnamon the bird flew off his shoulder and started to laugh in some degree as well, making Oasis puff up a little more at his friends’ betrayal.
“Peachie? Where are you, honey?” A voice called out.
Peachie jumped happily and ran towards it, knowing the voice as her mother’s. With a quick pace, she found her parent’s and Oasis was along for the ride, since the filly had put him on her back and was moving too fast for him to get off... and still mewing. As she stopped, Oasis looked up and saw two ponies, one a stallion with dark brown fur and green eyes and mane and a mare, who was a creamy white color with light blue eyes and a soft, light blue mane. It was weird how she almost looked exactly like Peachie... like a carbon copy almost.
The two parents looked down at their daughter and they both had a look of surprise as they saw Oasis. Not only the fact that Peachie looked to have taken this foal from somewhere, but also the fact that he was small and had a scorpions tail! Peachie’s mother moved forward a bit and looked down at Oasis, right in the eyes. Oasis started back, giving her a plea for help from Peachie’s hold.
“Peachie... if I may, who is this?” the mare asked gently,” And... what is it?”
“This is Oasis!” Peachie chirped happily,” And he’s a kitty that I found!”
“Dear, I don’t think that’s a kitty,” the father noted,” Mainly because it is too... purple to be one...”
Oasis looked up at Peachie, a hopeful look on his face as he thought she would let go. She didn’t. Peachie grabbed him, somehow, and pulled him into a very tight hug, she begged,” Pleeeeeease! Please let me keep him! I’ll take good care of him! I’ll feed him and bathe him! I’ll even give him jelly beans! I want this kitty!”
“I get those at home!” Oasis replied as he started to wiggle.
The two parents jumped back a bit as they heard the colt speak. They didn’t know what he was, but they thought he could speak. The father was the first to speak,” You can talk little one?”
“Yes!” Oasis yipped as he wiggled harder. Though the wiggle was futile since the earth pony’s strength was greater than his.
The mother sighed softly and leaned forward a bit, with a calm and gentle voice she said,” Peachie, dear, I know you want a pet, but this isn’t a pet at all!”
“But... but... he mews like a kitty!” Peachie’s eyes had a soft glow to them.
Her mother shook her head and said,” Peachie, dear... that's not a kitty-”
“No!” a familiar voice roared,” He’s MINE!”
The group looked over at the origin and saw Viper. Who looked like she was about to rip off their heads. With a roar that shook the ground, she yelled,” WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH MY BABY?!”

Chapter 6: Mistakes Were Made (edited)
“Viper calm yourself,” Stringy said calmly as he held Viper back as best he could.
“NO! THEY ARE GONNA HURT, MY BABY!” Viper roared as she squirmed to get out of his grasp.
Stringy put a hoof over her mouth and looked at the small family with a glare,” I would like you to drop my foal... if you don’t.”
Stringy’s voice lowered,” There will be worse consequences than an angry mother.”
The mother of Peachie looked down at her daughter and Oasis, with a stern voice she said,” Peachie, put the foal down now!”
Peachie looked at her mother and pouted, but listened and let Oasis down gently. Viper drops down and nuzzles her kit while Oasis hugged his mother. Stringy looked down and smiled before walking over to the other family. Oasis nuzzled his mother back gently, happy that he wasn’t almost tried to be taken away again. Viper pulled him in softly and held him protectively as she watched Stringy talk to them. Oasis didn’t argue when he was pulled close, rather, he was happy to be protected.
“ Are you okay?” Viper asked with a serious tone, ”Did any of them hurt you?”
“No mama,” Oasis replied softly,” I was just scared is all...”
“What about that filly?” Viper hissed,” The one that is coming over here?”
Oasis looked over and saw Peachie walking over and twidling her hooves. She had an apologetic look on her face as she neared. Viper got into a protective stance as Peachie stopped in front of them, still twidling her hooves. Oasis backed up slightly as Viper began to growl. Yet, even though Viper was growling, it didn’t stop Peachie from moving a smidge closer. This made Viper’s hair stand on end as her eyes narrowed... then Peachie spoke.
“Mrs. Viper?” she asked calmly.
“What?” Viper hissed.
“I want to say sorry... for trying to take Oasis...” Peachie said.
“Oasis, we’re going home,” Viper growled.
“But, what about dad?” Oasis asked, but Viper did not answer him.
Viper grunted and turned, she picked up Oasis and walked away. Whether she wanted to or not wasn’t clear to Oasis, but he saw her tail go up and push Peachie to the ground rather forcefully. Oasis saw this and gave a low growl before wiggling out of his mother’s grasp. Before she could pick him up again, he ran under her legs and to Peachie.
Peachie sat there with her arms wrapped around herself. She gave a soft sniff and looked up. She saw Oasis standing next to her wearing a smile. She also heard the sound of an angry Viper walking towards them. Yet Oasis didn’t seem to mind as he offered a hoof to Peachie, who accepted it happily.
“I accept your apology!” Oasis said with a goofy grin.
“Oasis, get back here now,” Viper said, giving a slight growl after it.
“But shes hurt!” Oasis replied.
“Oasis Defender Light, you get back here right now or I’ll-HEY!” Viper was cut off by being picked up by his father.
“Viper, chill,” Stringy said, before putting her on his back with a magical weight that held her in place. Stringy shook his head and looked down at Peachie, with an apologetic tone, he said,” Sorry, Viper’s kinda protective, you alright?”
“Yes, sir!” Peachie said as she grabbed Oasis’s hoof and pulled herself up.
“I won’t forget this, Stringy!” Viper warned as she struggled to escape the grasp.
“Yeah yeah, my head in a fridge, got it,” Stringy replied, rolling his non-existent eyes at Viper.
“I saw that!” Viper growled.
Peachie looked at the two with confusion. Oasis noticed this and told her that they sometimes acted like this. So, while the two parents went and “talked” Oasis and Peachie walked a little bit away, as to stay in sight for their parents, and talked on their own, Cinnamon and Mudbray joining in a few moments later.
“So, is everything alright between you two.” Mudbray asked as he crossed his forelegs,” Or do I need to do something?”
“No Mudbray,” Oasis smiled,” We’re fine! Just a little mistake!”
“Tweet?” Cinnamon asked as she hopped from Mudbray’s shoulder to his.
“No I don’t have any seeds Cinnamon,” Oasis shook his head, his smile ever more present.
Cinnamon fluffed up a bit before she pecked Oasis’s nose. Oasis squeaked and frowned. The two stared at each other for a second then started laughing. Peachie looked at Mudbray who simply shrugged in response.
“So... Oasis,” Mudbray smiled awkwardly,” Did you finish your work?”
*Groans*” No... I didn’t... I couldn’t answer problem twelve,” Oasis said with a frown.
“I-I finished mine,” Peachie said as she took off her saddle pack,” Do you need help with twelve?”
“Nah, let Purple Smarts over here do it,” Mudbray snorted and immediately felt the glare of Viper on the back of his head.
Oasis opened his mouth to retort, but heard the angry growling of his protective mother and sighed,” I... think I am needed to help calm my mom down...”
“She sounds like she’s gonna explode any second,” Mudbray said as he crossed his forelegs and looked in that direction.
“Its all my fault...” Peachie said as she put her saddle pack back on.
“Don’t worry!” Oasis said reassuringly,” I’ll find a way to calm her down!”
Peachie smiled,” Thank you... for giving me a second chance!”
“No-!” Oasis was cut off as Peachie wrapped her legs around him. She gave him a soft squeeze then let him go.
His face now a red, Oasis stared dumbly at Peachie as she turned and walked off to her parents. He knew Mudbray was holding back his laughter, even more so as he turned and saw him with a hoof over his mouth and his cheeks puffed up. In the distance, he could hear his mother cursing angrily at his father, telling him to let her go so she can do something to Peachie. With a small shake of his head, his blush faded as he and Mudbray walked back over to his parents.
Mudbray looked at Viper, who was giving him a burning glare as she tried to wiggle her way out of Stringy’s magic. Stringy, even though he couldn’t really feel pain, had his face tilted back so that Viper couldn’t hit him and get out via a surprise attack.
“Alright, kids, ready to go home?” Stringy asked as he put a magical spell around Viper to hold her in place.
“Yes, sir!” They both said in unison.
With that, the group first headed in town to drop Mudbray off at his house, then they went to theirs. During this time, Viper still tried to escape the magical grasp, but Stringy had found a way to reinforce it this time, making almost impossible for her to break it... or much more accurate, making it heal each time she nearly broke it. Oasis waved goodbye to Peachie who shyly waved back. With that, the small group headed first to drop off Mudbray, then to their house. Both Viper and Stringy were eager to listen to their son’s first day at school.

Chapter 7: House Invasion (Edited)
Having a cold wasn’t very pleasant for Oasis, he was on and off, he fell asleep for long periods of time and was awake for a small amount of them. Viper had never seen Oasis have a cold, nor has she ever seen a cold, so she was rather nervous and easily shaken by little things. Stringy had seen it before and helped Viper nurse Oasis back to much better health. However, Stringy had found out too late that they had run out of chicken noodle soup and had to run to the market to get some more, along with other things like tissues. This left Viper to take care of the colt.
Viper nuzzled Oasis as he laid under the blankets, once again, asleep from the cold. The covers were wrapped tightly around him and Viper held him close to her chest for warmth, but every once in a while she would unbundle him and let him cool off, something to do with a fever. She licked his cheek whenever he started to stir to calm him down, from what Stringy had told her, sleep is the most important part of recovery, right after medicine. Once again, she felt him stir but was too late to calm him as he awoke with a slight jolt and a squeak. He felt his mother’s hooves wrap tightly around him.
He looked up, and with a rather hoarse voice, asked,” C-can I have s-something to drink?”
Viper nodded, yet she reluctantly let him go to grab him a glass of water because of the motherly instinct that told her to stay with him. When she finally forced herself to leave her sick kit, she walked into the kitchen and grabbed a small plastic cup and filled it with water. As she filled it up, she realized that he may be hungry, he hasn’t eaten since last night, so he must be hungry. She knew that Stringy was out to get more chicken noodle soup and other things, but she knew that they had something she could give Oasis. First, however, she quickly walked back to his room, the water held firmly with her tail. She sat on the bed and helped Oasis drink the water, once he was done, he laid back down and fell back asleep. She took the cup back to the kitchen and looked around for something she could make... without the small chance of the house being burned down. Just as she found a can of pineapple, she heard a knock at the door. Though, she ignored it, even as it got louder. She popped the top off of the can and poured it into a bowl. She grabbed a fork and put it into the bowl then picked it up and walked back to Oasis’s room. The knocks at the door grew louder, yet Viper didn’t listen, she laid the bowl down onto the side table next to his bed and held Oasis close to herself once more. She slowly drifted off to sleep, her tail wrapped around Oasis as she finally slipped into the land of dreams.
*BAM BAM BAM!*
Viper awoke to the loud sounds of somepony that had banged on the door. She wanted to growl, but she didn’t, she looked down at the form of her kit who was still asleep. She gently removed her tail and nuzzled her colt once more before she jumped off the bed and walked towards the door. With a loud roar, one of a very furious mother that could scare away an Ursa Major, Viper roared,” WHO ARE YOU!? WHAT IN THE NAME OF THE PUPPETEER DO YOU WANT!?”
A weak female voice answered,” I-I have a package for... for String Theory?”
“I don’t know of any packages he had ordered! Leave it at the front door and leave it there so that he can pick it up!” Viper roared back with a low growl.
“It might be stolen!” the mare replied.
“I DON’T CARE! LEAVE!” Viper replied with a stomp of her hoof against the cold tile.
“Well... I have some papers you need to sign!” the mare replied, her voice still weak, yet Viper could hear the hint of anger in her voice.
“I can’t write!” Viper replied, though this was a lie, Stringy had taught her how to read and write many things, but she didn’t trust this mare.
“Then I can’t leave without the papers signed!” The mare replied.
“THEN LEAVE!” Viper yelled and before the mare could argue, Viper left the front door and walked back to her kit’s room to make sure he was still okay.
She once again wrapped her tail around Oasis and held him close, even as he began to wake, she kept her tail wrapped around him as she offered him the pineapple in the bowl, which he ate happily. That was when the knocks started up again.
“Mama...” Oasis asked weakly as he looked back at his door,” Who is at the door?”
“A random mare that says she has a package for your father,” Viper replied as she nuzzled his cheek,” Go back to sleep and don’t worry about it.”
Oasis laid his head back down, but Viper knew he wasn’t asleep and the knocks grew louder and... closer... Viper slowly grabbed the blanket and covered Oasis with it as she got off of the bed, went back to the door, and opened up the door with a slam, this scared the mare who still stood at the door so bad she slipped and fell onto her hindquarters. Viper growled as she saw the mare completely, she didn’t have a package, she didn’t wear the uniform.
With fury and rage, Viper growled,” I told you to leave, and not only did you NOT do that, but you also lied about the package you claimed to HAVE!”
The mare, who was a light tan earth pony with a scarlet mane, seemed to be in awe at Viper. Viper knew the mare, even though it was long ago, she remembered the mare from the small group that Stringy had glared back at when they glared at her and Oasis. She was too angry and too focused to notice the stallion and another mare as they rushed in and punted her from the door entrance. She landed with a loud thud as the two walked in.
The stallion, who was a dark purple unicorn, commanded in a deep voice,” I’ll get the hybrid thing, you kill her.”
The other mare, who was a yellow pegasus nodded and reached out to grab Viper, but Viper was too quick as she bit the hoof as hard as she could, jumped up, and ran to Oasis’s room. She heard the earth pony mare yell to get her, but she paid no mind as she slammed the door shut and pushed the dresser in front of the door. Oasis had awoken because of the noise and was on the verge of tears as Viper jumped onto the bed and held a defensive stance towards the door. She heard a loud thud as the door moved inward a bit, then a green aura wrapped around the door and it was ripped off of the hinges. There stood the purple stallion and the pegasus mare, who held a bat. Viper hissed dangerously at the attackers as the stallion climbed over the top of the dresser and into the room. Viper didn’t waste a second, she charged up a shot and let it loose. It found its target as it pierced the stallion’s chest.
He let off a loud yell followed with a groan. The two mares pulled the dresser out of the way and both entered the room. Viper charged another shot, but the pegasus mare quickly flew and grabbed her by her throat. Viper slammed against the wall with her tail pinned below her, she felt the mare punch her in the chest and they both heard a low snap. She screamed as the earth pony mare picked up Oasis. She turned to leave but soon was ignited by an electrical light that nearly blinded Viper and caught the pegasus mare off guard. The mare dropped Oasis back onto the bed and fell over with a loud thump as her head slammed against a wall. Viper saw that the pegasus was distracted and quickly bit down on her hoof and shot a final shot that punctured the mare’s leg. She let off a yelp and fled, her wings drooped slightly as she bumped into the wall, Viper’s poison had already begun to work. Viper ignored the pain around her throat, chest, and tail as she jumped onto the bed and checked on Oasis.
He was out cold but he still breathed. Viper held him close in a tight hug as she looked at the other two. The stallion was still alive but was too dazed to see that they had lost the mare... she was fried. Her mouth was black and her mane stood on end. She was dead. Viper started to wonder about the pegasus, but a loud female scream caught her attention, as well as the sound of a very angry Stringy. She watched the door as a large familiar and friendly figure appeared before her, it was her husband. In his magical grasp he held onto the mare’s arms, she too was knocked out cold. As soon as he saw the two, he rushed over and let the mare’s arms drop to the ground. He slid to a stop and looked at them, even with the lack of eyes Viper could tell he was worried. He wrapped his arms around the two.
His voice, even for a seasoned warrior from years past, was shakey as he asked,” Are you two okay!?”
“I’m fine... just a... cracked rib is all,” Viper replied as she held Oasis’s unconscious body close,” But Oasis overdid it, we need to get to the hospital!”
“H...hehe...” the two heard the stallion laugh,” They won’t help... a MONSTER... like you! ”
He groaned as Stringy got up and walked over to him. Viper felt the heat that radiated off of him, Stringy was beyond angry. He crouched before the stallion and spoke softly, yet those words carried some much edge, she could hear Death shudder to enter the room to claim the mare’s life.
“What makes you so sure?” Stringy asked.
“Be-cause!” the stallion laughed,” When the... the princesses find out she killed... TWO of her subjects... she’ll have you arrested... and hauled off to the dungeons!”
“You seem to be mistaken,” Stringy told him, his face grew closer to his,” The princesses know me and my family, you can say that we share blood in the paper sense.”
“W...what does that mean?” the stallion asked.
“It means this,” Stringy replied, in an instant, his hoof shot up and slammed into the stallion’s snout. This movement caused the stallion’s head to jerk back and leave a small crater in the wall of the house. No doubt the stallion’s nose was broken now he too was knocked out. Stringy grabbed the two intruders and tied them together with his metal cables. He grabbed Viper and Oasis and teleported to the hospital.
Viper and Oasis were taken in quickly and examined. Stringy... “convinced” them to let him be with them as they were examined. First was Oasis, who had extended too much magic and would be asleep for a few hours, other than that, he didn't have any other injuries they could find. Viper, on the other hoof, had suffered a cracked rib, it wasn’t too serious but the doctors insisted that they at least warp a bandage around it as to let it heal more properly. Stringy agreed and Viper did too, though rather reluctantly. Another thing the doctors found was that Viper was once again pregnant with another foal, a shock to be sure, but it was one of the things that showed the silver lining of that bad day. Viper was overjoyed that she nearly worsened the crack in her rib. The day was bad, yes, but it had gotten a little better with that news of another bundle of joy on the way. However, on their way back home they both agreed not to tell Oasis that he had accidentally killed a pony... at least no so till he was older.
Stringy paid what was owed, grabbed the kit, and walked home with Viper who held a mile long grin. The family returned swiftly to their home and saw that a small amount of repair needed to be done and the two alive criminals needed to be dealt with. Yet, as Stringy looked at the house, he noticed that the mailbox had its little flag up. He groaned, most likely bills, yet when he opened it he found a small letter with the royal seal on it. Stringy didn’t know if the day had gotten better or worse with the sealed letter, yet he hid his expression well as he simply told Viper that it was a bill. When they walked in, they found the two house invaders still knocked out, yet they had a body on their hooves. Stringy found the body, picked it up, and went back into town to the Crematorium, many ponies looked at him in awe, fear, and shock. When some stopped him to question him, he told them what had happened, when a news reporter stopped him, he told the reporter the same story but warned that, if the news studio ever came to his house and pestered them, there will be trouble. Stringy came back and told what happened in town to Viper. They just hoped that this wasn’t going to cause some grand domino effect.
He told them that he heard that the group didn’t have any parents to go to, no relatives either, so they just proceeded with the process and Stringy paid for it. Viper then questioned him about the “bill”, which she soon found out was a message from the Princesses. Viper was now in the same boat as Stringy, she didn’t know whether to be happy or upset at the letter, she didn’t really care for the princesses, but she knew the power they held. With some more hesitation, Stringy opened the letter. What was inside was not at all what he had expected, not in the slightest. It was a letter that asked if he could stop by... for a family reunion.
