A filly left behind
secound chapter - The town
Previous ChapterSecond chapter - The town and the mare
The morning sun slowly rose and shone through the Ponyville park, and small fading light shades shined and through the leafy canopy above, making patterns on the brown cardboard box that was left on the green park bench. Gently the sun warms up the cold box, inside Lyh is still shaking weakly while mumbling about how great her 10th birthday were.
The filly slowly opened her big yellow-amber colored eyes, only to find out she was now captured and could not get out, at first the filly rubbed her drowsy eyes and looked around again and figured out she was trapped. Lyh sniffed out some of the apples her parents packed for her and slowly ate one while thinking when she would get out. Lyh felt something else with her, it felt like paper at first, but then again it felt smoother than paper. Lyh took the smooth paper object and put it in the burlap sack with the apples.
The filly figured she might not get out at the time, it was still quite early in the morning and the ponies and foals of Ponyville had not woken yet, so she decided to lie down and take a nap for now.
When the first pony passed the Box on the green bench he accidentally tipped it over so it fell onto the ground, the filly got startled and woke up with a shock. Now she was out of the box and she looked to her sides only to realise she were no longer home. She looked inside her cardboard box to figure out what that smooth paper feeling was, and pulled out her burlap sack and dug her hoof in it. When she found the paper like object it was a picture of her parents. Slowly the huge eyes of the filly began to shine as she began to cry.
After a while and the sun was now hung high in the sky, the tears of the filly had stopped and she put the picture back in the sack and the sack back in the box. She decided to walk into the city from the park, and dragged her box with her mouth into the town of ponyville. It felt like the warm sun now was stuck in the sky and it was only getting warmer, from time to time a gentle wind came and blew some of the sweat off the filly’s forehead, she was struggling a bit moving be box as the size of it was just a bit larger than her self. Lyh arrived at the outskirts of Ponyville and found the perfect hiding place, a bush with a minor hole in the side as somepony was building a secret cave or something, and without any hesitation she shoved her box inside and thought it was a good hiding spot for now, and went inside her box to find her self sleepy and took a minor nap. After about an hour of sleep she decided to explore some of the town, but her stomach growled and those apples would not keep her saturated for long, she luckily had about ten bits in her bag, but she never purchased anything on her own before and where should she find a food shop, she was really confused but did not give up so she left the box for now with ten bits on her she moved on deeper into the town to find a food merchant.
Lyh found some branches she used to cover the hole in the bush, so that nopony would find her temporary home, and began to walk towards the center where she found a pole with destinations on and spotted the Marketplace sign and pointed left of her so she walked that way. it was a bit of a challenge to get there as the ponies were significantly higher than herself. But she overheard two mares talking about going to the marked so she thought it may be best to follow closely after them. After a short time walking she found herself in the middle of the chaos, almost every shop had a clearance sale.
Lyh was shy and found it hard to navigate through the pushing mass of ponies, she could barely see a rather large sign with bread and tried to walk to it but it was a challenge, she had to squeeze through them all and when she did that she lost her bits but she did not notice due to all the noise and stress from the other ponies. finally, she took a deep sniff from the breads and grabbed one, and when she was about to pay she realized she had lost the bits she brought with her, and said she was not able to afford it at the moment, the merchant got mad and said why she was here touching his bread with muddy hooves and yelled other things at her too, lyh got really sad and dropped the bread and did her best to run away, when she is almost out of the mass she stumbles over a leg and rolls into the mud, she stood up with tears in her eyes, and brushed the most of the dirt of her coat and continued to run back to her box.
As she arrives she sees that her branch has been removed and as she looked inside she saw her box was destroyed and the rest of the bits stolen, all that was left was two apples and her picture which still was in the sack, the filly cried as she curled up against the sack.
Lyh eventually fell asleep. the sun was down, and the moon was hiding behind some large grey clouds, the moon was glowing gently down onto ponyville, and glowed weakly through the bush, about three in the morning the rain began to come, it was heavy.. and the bush couldn't hold it and a few drops hit lyh so she woke up, the wind was freezing. it only took minutes before she was soaking wet, and Lyh had no idea what to do, she tried to find consolation in the picture from her parents, as she held it close to her self she remained calm, but the rain was slowly melting the picture. As she stared at the slowly soaked and almost vanished picture she cried, but with no wound she was mute until the last piece of the picture was destroyed. After the rain ruined the picture Lyh just sat and stared into the air as the rain still stormed heavily over her place, she was too tired and just laid her head down and fell asleep once more with tears in her eyes.
As the stars began to twinkle, a peculiar mare would be outside on her night-trot to monitor the stars. She had a burning passion for the endlessness dark space that enveloped Equestria, the young mare also called Starlit found her self a good spot close to the filly’s bush, little did she know that there actually was a filly sleeping nearby.
Lyh was curled up in her box, trying her best to keep her warmth, but she somehow weren’t able to stay asleep as the mare nearby just would not stop talking to herself, about which star belonged to what zodiac signs. Lyh rubbed her eyes and stretched her body as much as she were able to in the box, and realised that there was a faint sound of somepony talking nearby, she peaked her head out of the box and saw the back of the mare, her coat color is a deep crimson, and her mane shifted between different planes of green. Without a word would Lyh sneak up upon Starlit and sit nearby staring into the endless skies herself listening to her, as she pointed with her hoof into the air trying to locate each star to its pattern. Lyh did her best to follow along, but a few of the odd mare’s words sounded gibberish to her, she found herself accidently asking Starlit. But only half a word was able to escape Lyh’s mouth and the mare jumped into the air, as she was startled by the sudden sound of a filly right behind her. Starlit instantly correct her mane and glasses and had a closer look at the somewhat dirty filly in front of her, she was wondering what such a young pony was doing outside after midnight.
Lyh explained what she knew and that she was abandoned left with the few items she now had and was hungry for some real food, as she explained that a few tears began to occupy her eyes. The mare did not hesitate to make sure Lyh had something to eat, and as she was shown Lyh little hiding spot she gently would then levitate it all into the box, and close it as she put it on her back, and lead Lyh into the town, which to their surprise was very active, as the nightlife was consistent of younger ponies out dancing and having a party. It did not take them long to find a restaurant as the little filly’s stomach growled as soon as the sweet scent of warm food was emerged into the air, a sweet scent of apples, cinnamon and cider.
Starlit lead them to a table outside of the restaurant called The Grainwhich, and just as they sat down a waiter would appear to take their order, Starlit placed an order on 2 haywhiches as well as one large cold apple juice for the filly, and a medium cider for her self. There was a smell of youth, food and cider in the air as they both spectated the busy crowd going from one party to the other, visiting kiosks as well as other minor restaurants. As soon as the food was placed on their table by the waiter, would Lyh begin to eat fast, but Starlit stopped her with her magic, she was afterall a unicorn. But nevertheless did she stop Lyh from eating as she levitated a wet napkin close to Lyh and washed her face, and brought a new one and asked for Lyh to clean her hooves before eating. Without any resistance she did as she was told, she was after all offered free food.
Starlit was wondering if the filly had a place to stay for the night, as it was slightly cold outside, and as they both were about to end their meal she felt she had to ask, Lyh just shook her head shortly and Starlit invited her to stay at her guest room for a few days, just until they would find Lyh’s parents. Starlit waved the waiter to them and paid for it all, She was sitting for a brief second and looking into Lyh’s eyes as if she was looking at stars, adoring the little filly for how brave she have been so far, with her little ruffled undone mane, and somewhat dirty coat, she could only imagine what the filly have been through. But they had to move on for now, Lyh stood up the second Starlit did almost as if she were imitating her.
Starlit thought for herself that a filly like Lyh would need a good nights sleep and not in a box, so she invited her to stay at least for the night, and of course would Lyh accept the kind offer coming from the mare. Lyh giggled at a few of the younger ponies out living the nightlife, she saw a colt accidentally walking into one of the many lamp posts because he was a bit too tipsy. The few bugs that also was active looking amazing, as if they have auditioned for the night during the day, from time to time a few light bugs will zoom by the various ponies, and others would just fly around on their minor pattern, everything was so colorful for the little unicorn.
Lyh’s entrancement of the nightlife was broken by the mares suddenly stopping op and smiled, she announced that this is where she lives, and that her colt friend might would be asleep already. Once inside would Starlit light up her horn and lead the way to the guestroom of the house, the room contained one rather large bed for a filly, a desk with a little pillow to sit on, a closet, and 2 windows with curtains. Right away would the filly jump into the bed and stomp it to her pleasure, but before she was able to lie down, would Starlit levitate her all of a sudden and lifted her into their bathroom. Starlit would then pass a warm smile and hug the filly close, as she then pointed into the mirror. The mirror was actually just the magic doings of Starlit, she then gave the filly a toothbrush and squeezed some toothpaste onto it, and Lyh replied by passing an empty look back to Starlit. She shook her head in surprise that the filly did not know of this toothbrush thing, so she gently instructed her and showed lyh how to do it. It did not take long for the filly to get the toothpaste around the most of her mouth too, but at least her teeths were clean.
After a bit cleanup around the little filly’s face it was finally time for the bed, Lyh jumped for joy around starlit as they went upstairs, and as soon as Lyh found it comfortable enough she would lie down. Starlit stood next to her looking down at her as her horn was glowing a little, would the blanket move up on Lyh. Starlit checked under the bed and passed a warm smile to the filly as she exited the room. She left the door a teeny bit open and lit a candle outside on the wall in front of Lyh’s door. For once, she could finally sleep warm, and without worry.
