The Misfit Six
Grades And Ice Cream
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe end of the school day came, striking the 3:00 bell. Everyone rushed out to go home, excited to finally be out. Well, almost everyone was rushing out. Adagio and her sisters waited in the hallway, eagerly awaiting for the rest of their friends to come out and meet them. They leaned against some lockers right outside of the classroom where Trixie would be leaving. But the sudden panic and scream made Adagio a little worried.
"What do you mean I got a D!?" Trixie panicked.
The teacher was unfazed by her panic, but she did have a concerned look on her face.
"Trixie, you failed to answer some of the guidelines, and also, right at the bottom of your paper, there's a bit of drool. Because you fell asleep."
Trixie's head slumped down in embarrassment.
"Trixie, I'm not mad at you. But I am a bit worried. Ever since you and those friends of yours have been going into the public as superheroes, very bold and brave of course, but some of the teachers have started to become a little concerned. Lack of coordination, energy, sleep deprivation... Some of your friends have been found falling asleep in class."
"Oh... right..." Trixie frowned.
"Look, Trixie, I'm going to be honest with you. You're a terrific student here, but you need to get this grade up. I'll allow you to redo the assignment to get your mark up, but its due by next week. Understood?"
Trixie sighed, her head flopping in disappointment. "Yes ma'am..."
Grabbing her things, she walked out of the room with her head hung low. Utter shame filled her, as she left the classroom. Adagio was excited to see her, but then her smile faded away seeing Trixie's face.
"Trixie? Sweetness, what's wrong?" Adagio asked.
Trixie's head slammed into the locker next to Adagio.
"I can't do superhero work anymore..."
"What? What are you talking about?"
Trixie pulled her head back and looked at Adagio with a sad face. "I got a D on that assignment. I thought I could do it but... I guess I was more tired than I thought."
"But how? You're usually on top of things!"
"I thought so too, but... I don't know. I guess trying to pass high school and be a superhero at the same time really depletes a lot of your energy."
Trixie slammed her face against the locker again, groaning in frustration. Adagio's face only frowned from there after.
"Trixie?"
The bespectacled girl looked to the former siren who welcomed her with open arms.
"Need a hug?"
Trixie sniffled. "A hug would be nice..."
Adagio pulled her close, holding her in a warm embrace. She rubbed her hands on the little geek's back, holding her close. She heard Trixie's heavy breathing, as well as felt a few small tear drops stain the top of her siren's outfit.
"Shhhhh... shhh..."
Aria and Sonata frowned as Adagio held her girlfriend in a warm embrace. They couldn't imagine how she was feeling right now...
Adagio's face was nothing but sad ever since she and her sisters got off from school. Something inside of her snapped when she saw how disappointed and sad Trixie was to see that she had failed. Not after how hard she worked on that project. How could it have come to this? Was it all of their superhero work? Was it their activity outside of CHS to try and handle bigger problems?
"Dagi? You okay?" Sonata asked.
Adagio snapped out of her thoughts and looked to her younger siblings who looked at her with concern.
"Oh, I'm... I'm fine, I guess."
"You're upset about Trixie's failure, aren't you?"
"Yes, I am," Adagio groaned. "If I knew she wasn't doing well, then... oh, I wish I could have helped her," Adagio moaned.
Sonata opened up the door to the ice cream shop, and Adagio hung her head as she walked in.
"What you need is some ice cream, you need to turn that frown upside down," Sonata beamed.
"I don't think ice cream will help," Adagio sighed, holding her head as she sat in one of the seats over at the bar/counter.
"Ah, welcome girls!"
The sisters were greeted by the woman standing behind the counter. A woman in her early thirties with ice blue skin, white snow hair that was lively and hanging just above her shoulders, and crystal blue eyes. She had a friendly smile on her face as she looked at them.
"Hi."
"What's up?"
The woman grinned. "My name's Blizzard. I own this place. You want any ice cream, I'm the woman you need." She looked at Adagio and frowned. "And I think this young lady needs some ice cream. Bad day, I'm assuming?"
"Yep."
"Oh... well sweetheart, what's the matter?"
"I-I rather not talk about it," Adagio's head slammed into the counter, blocking her face from the manager's eyes.
Aria patted her shoulder and looked to Blizzard. "Her girlfriend tanked an assignment, and she's sad because she wish she could have helped her."
"Hmm, I see. Well I think I know just the thing to cheer you up. Perhaps a refreshing minty shake with some crushed up Oreos?"
Adagio whimpered a bit before slowly nodding. Blizzard smiled, patting her shoulder.
"One Oreo shake, coming right up! Anything for you two?"
"I'd like a hot fudge sundae, please!" Sonata smiled.
"Make that two."
"Coming right up!"
As Blizzard went away to get the drinks for the girls, Adagio held her face up with just her hand, staring deep into her reflection. She sighed with disappointment.
"Who knew being a superhero would be so hard?" Adagio said, shaking her head.
"I think everyone did," Sonata pointed out.
"But what can we do? We can't just give up doing superhero work, the public looks up to us. Everyone at CHS, included. We can't let them down..."
Aria rubbed her chin. "Should we let the public know that even we need breaks sometimes?"
"... You really think they would take that well?"
"Hey, you don't know that! Perhaps they're really understanding that not everyone can handle the responsibilities of being a superhero."
"You can't just drop a bombshell like that. It'd be like if we just walked out into the streets and screaming 'we're aliens!' Something like that isn't going to pass well..."
"Oh. Girls? Check it out, one of those supers," Blizzard said, pointing to the TV that was attached to the corner wall, playing the latest broadcast.
All three of their heads looked up to the TV, for the news report caught their eye. Amethyst dressed in her Retro Girl outfit was seen on a person's phone, dancing as she stepped out of the bank while Take On Me played in the background.
"Hey, its Am-ImeanRetroGirl! Retro Girl, yeah, that's the one!" Sonata stuttered.
Blizzard looked at Sonata with a confused look, and Sonata chuckled nervously before sinking into her seat.
"--Just this morning, we found Retro Girl stopping an attempted robbery over at the Canterlot Bank. Rest assured the man attempting to rob the bank has been arrested, and is going to jail."
The four girls grinned as they watched the girls.
"And in other news, it seems like these girls aren't the only strange beings who live in this town. For later that day, many people spotted what appeared to be a man running through Canterlot's Chase For Charity, who had been completely engulfed by flames."
The monitor flipped to some footage captured by watch towers who followed Inferno's tracks as he ran downtown while the fire still kept ablaze. He was a literal human torch, and a full on tracking signal for anyone passing by to take a look at him.
"32-year-old man, Inferno said he participated in the race, and was fully aware of the fact he was on fire as he ran through the course. All systems say he's perfectly healthy and fine, and with no damage whatsoever."
All three of them blinked.
"A man who can withstand fire, without suffering any kind of injuries? Hmm... interesting..." Adagio grinned.
"Alright, the minty shake is done!" Blizzard smiled, sliding it down the counter to Adagio. Adagio felt the cup and frowned.
"Um, this isn't... cold."
"Oh, geez, silly me. I forgot," Blizzard chuckled.
She grabbed the shake, holding it tight in her grasp. She turned around to keep Adagio from looking, prompting her to lean over to see what she was doing. What she didn't expect was what happened next. The minty shake in Blizzard's hand began to freeze up a little bit, the sound of ice forming on the cup. Adagio's pendent began to glow, and a twinkle of light reflected in her eyes.
"Here you go. I'll finish those fudge sundaes for you two."
Adagio gasped and looked at her sisters. "Did you feel that?"
Aria and Sonata blinked.
"Do you know what that was?"
The younger sisters shrugged.
"She has Equestrian magic! She froze that cup, she has powers!"
"But that's impossible, no one else could possess Equestrian Magic."
"Maybe before. But consider this. Before we even came to Canterlot High, there was already cracks in that statue, and magic was already escaping. Now because of our battle with Sunset Shimmer, the cracks grew bigger, and so it makes it look as if more magic has escaped. If she has powers because of Equestrian magic... and that man on TV who could withstand the fire..."
Aria and Sonata still had no clue. For a few seconds. In perfect unison, they realized what Adagio was talking about... and they didn't like it.
"I don't know..." Sonata said, rubbing her head.
"This is a dumb idea."
"How is it a dumb idea? Its rather simple. We find special people out there like him and..." Adagio looked to see Blizzard was listening in, "you-know-who, we train them, we make them superheroes, the public now has new supers who can help them while the girls can calm down and try to stay focused in school."
Aria raised a brow and tapped her fingers on the counter. "We're going to hire superheroes, so we can basically, take a vacation?"
"Well, that's one way to look at it," Adagio grinned. "So? What do you say?"
"I like it!" Sonata beamed.
"Well... if it means keeping everyone sane, then I suppose we should give it a shot."
"Exactly. After all, heroes need to take a break, you know."
Aria and Sonata nodded.
"Then its settled. Tomorrow, we'll send out a want ad, we'll enlist the best of the best. Find those with Equestrian Magic, we let them in. We're going to form a super duper group, and nothing's going to stop us!"
Sonata looked back up at the TV and her eyes bulged. "Oh, Adagio? You may want to see this."
All their eyes diverted back to the TV, as a new report came onto the news.
"--And in other important news, Canterlot City is on one giant city-wide alert for just last night, at 2 AM, a breakout transpired at Canterlot's Female Ward. Security teams reported that one of the women had multiplied, if you can believe, while another had taken control of some of the guards. A majority of prisoners have escaped, including former members of the Wonderbolt military--"
Mugshots displayed of a few angry women who looked like they had some sunglasses hanging around their necks, all looking to the viewer with intent of death. Then after, some more mugshots appeared on screen, this time showing some males as well.
"--not to mention their leader, the most wanted criminal in Canterlot... Spitfire."
A mugshot of the gang leader now came on screen, who had a charismatic smirk on her face. She looked as charismatic and seductive as Adagio, only with much less ravishing features than Adagio.
"If you're walking in Canterlot's streets and you see her, report her immediately. And keep a look out for many of her companions; including the dangerous Fleetfoot..."
Adagio and her friends felt their souls drop. Now they needed to put a new team together more than ever.
