Rarity and her friends were in Twilight's castle. They were all getting ready to go on a picnic with Twilight but they were waiting for Twilight to come out so they can enjoy the day with her as Twilight seemed like she was still getting ready.
Rarity and her friends hoped that Twilight didn't leave early as they wanted to leave with her. They didn't want to enter her room as they thought that she might be getting dressed. They decided to wait for while as it couldn't hurt to be patient for Twilight.
As they waited for a half hour they talked about how they hoped that the weather would stay nice for that day and how it was good to get out and get fresh air every once in a while. Even if they would only be staying out there for a few hours it was still a good thing that they were going out.
"Twilight is certainly taking her time...she's probably very tired....she's not mad at us for anything is she?" Rarity said.
"Aw shucks Rarity if Twilight had been angry with us she would tell us that now wouldn't she! She just needs sometime to herself." Applejack stated.
"Honestly you have to admit it's weird though Twilight would never permit herself to be late. This is odd behavior as she has an alarm clock to wake her up everyday. She could never bring herself to annoying her alarm clock. I wonder what she is up to." Rainbow Dash pointed.
"Oh I hope she is okay....maybe she feels pressured to go because of us. I hope we aren't doing pushing her to do this with us." Fluttershy said. Pinkie Pie laughed.
"Fluttershy it's fine. We aren't pushing her. She likes hanging out with all of us! If she felt pressured she would try and tell us anyway and I bet we would all understand." Pinkie Pie exclaimed. Her friends nodded in agreement.
"Well...if you say so..." Fluttershy said. They waited for thirty more minutes and that waiting just made their concern grow. Starlight frowned and thought about Twilight.
"Well...she's still not down here yet." Rainbow Dash said as she shrugged. Starlight got up and went upstairs.
"I'm going to go check on Twilight. You girls wait there we will both be down in a minute." Starlight said. As she walked up to Twilight's room she wondered about why Twilight was still in bed. She hoped that she wasn't angry about anything and if she was she would certainly tell her friends if she was.
When she got to Twilight's room she knocked on Twilight's door and waited for Twilight's response. After a few moments she knocked louder.
"Twilight? It's me Starlight? Are you okay? We were all supposed to go out for a picnic? Do you still want to go?" Starlight asked. Unfortunately Starlight she got no response. She checked the door to see if it was unlocked and surprisingly it was. She saw Twilight laying face down on the bed with an arm over the the of the bed.
Starlight walked up to Twilight and gently shook her arm.
"Twilight? What's wrong? Your never like this. You would scold yourself if you slept in late." Starlight said as she pushed Twilight's shoulder. When she got no response she pushed even harder. As she pushed she saw a few pill bottles lying on the floor and the bed.
Starlight became confused and examined them. She saw that they were illegal pills. A lot of illegal pills. Starlight's confusion turned to horror at the reality of the situation. She quickly checked for Twilight's pulse and then felt nothing. Starlight became wracked with sobs realizing that Twilight had overdosed on pills. She didn't know what pills they were as she was to busy sobbing to find out.
She sobbed by Twilight's bedside knowing that she had to tell Twilight's friends. She knew that if she did her friends wouldn't believe her or be they would believe her and would become horrified. She stayed there and sobbed for a while. After she shed some tears while she cried she stood up and went downstairs.
As she headed back to her friends she was nervous as to how she would tell them the news about Twilight. She was sobbing so much. She wiped some tears away and got to the bottom of the steps. Her friends turned to look at her.
"Well Starlight is everything okay? How's Twilight?" Applejack asked.
"She's dead. Pill overdose. It probably happened at night." Starlight said. Starlight cursed herself for telling her friends in a very non caring way. She said it almost factual instead of gently telling them. She sobbed. She looked up to see her friends and saw that they were all horrified. Her friends rushed past her without a word.
When they checked on Twilight they all started crying. The next few days were slow and depressing. Twilight was examined and it was established that Twilight overdosed on pills that they couldn't identify. The label was scratched off.
They cried over her for sometime. After that they honestly didn't know who to call first. They were thinking about telling Twilight's family but then they also thought that they should tell the emergency services first or Celestia.
They told Celestia in a private meeting between them and her. After that they told Twilight's parents with a very cautious manner. After that they told Equestria the news. A cause of death was confirmed by a doctor and Twilight had a funeral and was buried. After she had been buried Twilight and her friends and countless others around Equestria thought of memories of Twilight when she was alive.
As they thought of those memories each and every day since. Twilight and her friends uncovered Twilight's diary and messages that she wrote. Most of these messages were very alarming and had snuck under their noses while they weren't looking. They all had a chance to get help for Twilight but that failed.

As Twilight's friends continued to read hundreds of horrifying messages it became clear to them all that Twilight had been suffering depression for a long time and it went unnoticed. The messages were so saddening to read. They knew that Twilight could have came to them for help with their problems but she never did and that's what depressed them the most.
Twilight's friends and family thought about the greatest moments they had with Twilight which included her having picnics with her friends and helping out children find good homes in Equestria. They thought about her being happy and remembered how her laugh sounded like. They looked at pictures of her hugging them. The pictures and memories were all they had of Twilight.
Equestria mourned for several weeks. As time went on Twilight's friends and family would learn to cope. It was tough to deal with sometimes but they managed it. They would never forget Twilight Sparkle
