Warframe: Relic Hunters Realization
Chapter 1: Crash and Burn
Load Full StoryNext ChapterVoidless. Nothing but an empty, white, nothingness consumed his all. It was a message, something from nothing. Vague? Compelling? Worth? I don’t say the merits it holds, only what is processed can truly hold value to you. Am I wrong?
You stand here, a boy with golden bravado on scene, among the lifeless drones of the commoners. So, I ask, to what end does this game foretell for you? A life of meaningless, roguish antics, laughter at the pain endured among the masses? Or, are you looking for something more?
So, howl all you want. It won’t change fate, it can’t wash your hands this time. Your whit gives you strength. But I ask, how much will it take to break you, to chip away at your being? Slowly. Painfully. Screaming.
Because, even I make mistakes. Like you.
[Grineer Galleon, Outer Rings of Saturn]
[Objective: Recover Orokin Artifact]
As the sound of the ship’s haul groaning in protest to the explosions from the outer hull continued and the sound of bullets ringing out from the wall it made contact with. It was all a lone Excalibur could hear ring through his helmet, his body hunched over in a protective stance, clutching a rare, Axi Relic, its golden sphere-like body gleaming with dust, whist bullets ran past its hide at neck-breaking speeds.
The Excalibur in question, who now threw himself into another room for a moment, looked down at his beaten armour. It was an immortal type, with white, and black for his primary and secondary scheme, whist a dark grey was his tertiary, followed by the blood red line across his accents, though it might have been Grineer blood, whist his sky-blue energy pulsed across his body, recharging his shields for the time being.
“Hey guys are you out of here yet!?” He shouted as he ran out of the room, kneeing a Grineer grunt in the jaw, before he rolled into the hall, continuing his escape with the relic
“Yes but what about you? Do you need any help or…” A British voice asked him on the other end, whist the sound of a shotgun recoiled in the background, and the Excalibur nearly grew pale, as the bullets flew from the wall beside him, narrowly scraping his armour
"Jesus Christ, I told you not to put corrosive on that thing, no wonder this Galleon's gone to shit, you've been fucking it dry!" Excalibur snapped, before he heard the man whistle on the other end
“I don’t see why you decided to send the 10 tone Rhino in and not the one with cloaking” Another spoke dryly
“Oi, you cheeky shit, don't make me put you in the box!?” The rhino ranted through the other Tenno's com, before a loud, metallic smack rang from the coms
"What, so you can watch me jump around, making your efforts useless, and thereby, proving my point that you're heavy?" The Tenno inquired, as the Excalibur shook his head, hearing the guy's head crack at his head meeting a wall. "Ow...."
“Would you two quit it, look I’ll meet you guys back at the relay, then you can argue about stealth later!” Excalibur groaned in vexation, whist the bullets struck his armour, but the doors to his Liset closed at the last second, before he felt his ship jolt from the landing zone
“Right, come on, peasant!" Rhino called to the other Tenno, before the coms went dark, leaving Excalibur to shake his head at his team's lack of...well anything resembling sanity, all the while, the ship twisted, and pulled at its destruction, before large pieces of the hull tore away from the ship
Excalibur then sighed as he set the key down on a desk and began to look out the large window before him and then realized the problem. The Grineer were under siege by the Corpus, and the Corpus were winning as their fleet struck down the Grineer with ease, he found it funny how the Corpus, and Grineer were basically the stalemate champions of the Origin System, since neither side truly held the upper-hand.
Taking the opportunity to rest, Excalibur checked his weapons were still attached to his armour. So he pulled off his Venka casings, placing them down on the desk, followed by his Lex Prime. He reached around his left shoulder, pulling the scabbard of his Dragon Nikana, before his hand grazed the last item on his person. Its smooth, carbon-fiber coat, whist red lines danced across the black paint, a few crimson lights on the handle. Dread.
". . . ." Excalibur was silent, placing the bow beside his other collection of weapons, a feeling of anger, and sadness crashing into him, whist his body flew into the right side of his Liset. "Mother-"
"Operator! Corpus ships have begun retaliating-THEY SAW US SIGHTSEEING-I will commence drastic measures, please hold on." Ordis replied warily, whist Excalibur moved to look outside the window, only to see the railgun-like ship turn in their direction
"Ordis....why does that look like a railgun?" Excalibur asked carefully, seeing the lights on the sides of the Corpus flag ship begin to hum to life among the black void. "Ordis!?"
"My scanners indicate it to be the prototype rail cannon, much like the one used against us with the Razorback Armada, but back then, it was only in the testing stages-BUT THEY'VE COMPLETED IT-!" Ordis screamed, whist the energy around us seemed to waver, as if being pulled towards the flag ship
"Ordis, can we warp out of here, anywhere's fine, just not here!?" Excalibur yelled to the Cephalon, his nerves beginning to tense at the sight of the blue, magnetized energy waves produced by the Corpus railgun, much to his fear for the other person on board. "I'll even take Eris for God sake, just do something!"
“Acknowledged Operator but won’t it be dangerous?-WE’RE GOING TO DIE!-oh sorry about that” Ordis responded as he glitched out as usual, before quickly adding. “But I haven’t calibrated the location!” He shouted back in a panic “For all we know we could end up in the darkest reaches of the system!”
“Fuck it. Don't care. HIT THE WARP DRIVE!" Excalibur panicked, before he felt his body crash into the back of his Liset, his head beginning to spin at the sight of Saturn becoming a pulled, drawn mess of colour, before his vision turned white
“Excalibur!”
. . .
“Excalibur!”
. . .
“WAKE UP YOU-Operator, are you alright? By the stars, we're alive, but I'm not to sure about the rest of me.” Ordis asked as Excalibur’s vision came to. much to his throbbing head
“Ok-ok, I’m up-and what in God’s name happened to my ship?” He asked as he saw the carnage from the crash but upside down until his foot slipped from a wire, his face planting itself into the deck again. "Is the relic safe?"
"Yes, but I detect several hull breaches, alongside our engines being completely shot, I might only be able to glide, but that's as far as we could go. Power is still operating at full capacity, but that's the good news." Ordis listed, making Excalibur shake himself to his feet, seeing that the window peaked out into a cave they dug into a hill
There were holes and large slash marks in the ship and wires hung down from the roof, sparking and tangled in a mess. The window was only cracked and faced the now rising sun as the green fields appeared into view as Excalibur got to his feet and walked down into the hull of his ship.
Upon reaching the lower deck, he looked at the small space to his left, past his mod station, where a lone, Orokin stasis pod rested, its occupant still soundly asleep inside, much to Excalibur's reassured smile, his hand rested against the glass.
"Atleast you're safe, sis." He spoke to himself. “Ordis, can you tell about this location or where we are?” Excalibur asked as he went back up to the bridge
“Yes here are the basic files” Ordis said as a holographic list showed up in his face
[Location: Earth, Equestria]
[Prime Location: Canterlot]
[Main Inhabitants: Humans]
[Corpus Faction: 0%]
[Grineer Faction: 0%]
[Infestation Faction: 0.2%, Location: Liset]
[Orokin Traces: 0%]
[Date: 14 September 2018, 21st Century]
[Time: 7:30 am]
“So… another Earth huh?” Excalibur paused before grinning under his helmet “Ordis label this on the star chart, and then see how long it would take to repair our ship using this planet's resources?”
“Here you are Excalibur” Ordis said only seconds after and soon the Hologram changed
[Estimated Time: 3 Years]
[Ferrite: Unknown]
[Similar Metals: Found]
[Metals: Reinforced Steel and Titanium, nano tubing, lead]
[Energy Source: Uranium or Plutonium, plasma]
Then Excalibur’s heart dropped like a rock as he groaned at his bad luck.
"You're telling me, that of all the planets to crash on, we landed on the single, most useless one. I take back, I'll go to Eris, hell, I'll even take Ceres, at least the acidic rain would be comforting!" Excalibur ranted, running his helmet's temples. "Better yet, where can I gather Uranium?"
“Ebay” Ordis said simply, making Excalibur pause
“You serious? Huh, the more you know." Excalibur nodded in realization, before Ordis turned the hologram to a map of a massive town, making him turn his head to look at it clearly
“Well, if I may add, you could try something, mind you it’s not efficient but it may help us gain some intel about this world as well as keep a low profile whist you make repairs” Ordis recommended
“Oh… What did you have in mind” Excalibur asked, growing more optimistic about his current situation
“Ordis, if I die, I'll haunt you." Excalibur chuckled dryly, his eyes scanning through the papers in his hand, whist he ruffled his wild, black hair, a few blue highlights running through it, whist his golden, and black mixed eyes blinked slowly
He now wore a simple, short sleeved, white jacket, with gold stripes running up the arms and the sides of the zipper. He also wore black, and grey trainers along with black jeans and lastly an ultramarine shirt underneath. But on his arm was a small, bracelet, with Latin words spelling out, 'Relic Hunter', with the insignia of a rough 'R' edged into the silver metal.
"Why, in all of the known universes, would a school hire a strange individual to teach science? I mean, I get that my experience is over one thousand years, but if were talking appearances, I look to be eighteen by normal human socity." Excalibur grumbled to himself, watching strangely, colorful students walking past him, but to be fair, it was better than infested. "Much....much better than infested."
[CHS Principles Office]
The situation was tense, more-so for Excalibur or by his real name, Cal, ironic, given his Warframe, but by far the worst thing he's had to do is sit in-front of a 'questionable' Principle, as she checked through all the information Ordis had compiled for him, the rest was all up to Excalibur's quick wit.
"-Now, I do have one question about your legal age." Excalibur felt his spine freeze in the chair. "It says you're 18, correct?"
"Yes? I don't see the problem there, due to this country's legal laws, I'm the legal age to work, no matter the profession." Excalibur elaborated, whist Celestia nodded, but her frown remained, her eyes looking directly at Cal's impassive ones, staring for a few seconds before she continued
"You are aware that the gender distribution of the school is heavily on females, right?" Excalibur raised an eyebrow, of course he knew this, since his walk inside made it clear that girls outranked boys, but he more pressing concerns besides a crappy school job
"I don't care about that, ma'am, I just need a good paying job to keep me stable until my sister is well again to work herself." Cal answered, his lie was far more diluted. Since she was.....well he didn't wish to dwell on that day, not if he could help it. "I just want to expand on what people of my age find 'taxing', 'dull', if I was there age, or roughly that of, it could help break that typical boundary between teacher and student."
"Ordis, I'll say it again, if this fails, I will haunt you, and I'll get you; make it look like a bloody accident!" Cal snapped into his earpiece, sighing in frustration as he entered the classroom, thankfully, he had fifteen minutes to get up-to-date on all that he needs to know for the lesson, to which, it was all child's play. "Lets see....solar systems.....space stuff? Ok, I can do this!"
"Do what exactly?"
"GAH!" Cal yelped at the sudden extra voice, his body dropping to the desk for a moment, before he turned his body around to see who responded to his self-questioning, what he got was not what he was expecting
It was girl, most likely seventeen, given the school's age range, but a frown was near stuck to her face, but her ultramarine eyes seemed passive. Her eyes stared at him through her sky-blue hair, which reached her shoulders, she wore a black, sleeveless jacket, with a purple star split down the zipper, a white shirt underneath it. She wore a violet skirt, along with knee-length, white socks, followed by her white and black sneakers.
"Umm....hey, who are you?" Cal asked, slightly taken back by her appearance, being so similar, but contrasting at the same time
"I was going to wait around early, since my free period was up, then I saw you in here, who are you anyway?" She asked in return, but Cal flew back onto a chair behind him, spinning in the seat
"I believe I asked first, love." Cal retorted, so the girl breathed through her nose, then she held a hand out to him
"Skyler."
"Cal, at your service, quite literally in about....ten minutes." Cal greeted, moving to flick through the notes on the desk before him, much to Skyler's curiocity
"What are you doing?" She repeated, before Cal pointed to the sheet in his hand
"Getting ready to teach, what else?" He answered as if it was obvious, but Skyler just stared at him for a moment, her head tilted
"You're the teacher? You?" Skyler was skeptical, finding a boy near her age, who happened to be the teacher was really strange, but as she watched him work, muttering to himself, he did seem to know what he was doing, and the way he looked at the key information before him was certainly of a higher degree than a teen looking to cheat on an upcoming test
"You can take a seat if you want, I don't really have any strict rule-set, so do whatever until class starts." Cal waved to her, his eyes glued to the sheet before him. "Bloody child's play this is...."
[Ten Minutes Later]
The class was now full of different students, with most talking, and messing around in their respective groups, whist Cal heard the bell ring, indicating his time to start teaching, but just like Skyler, he knew they were going to be skeptical, so he decided to play along for the time being. His golden-black eyes glancing to the curious Skyler, before he cleared his throat, slamming his fist on the desk, catching everyone off guard, even he was surprised, since he put a dent in the table.
"Whoops." He blinked, but taking the silence, and prying eyes drawn to him, he cleared his throat again, standing up with a neutral expression. "Now then, who hear knows of the substitute science teacher taking over for this year? Just curious is all?"
"We all have, apparently a new one was meant to show up for this lesson?" Sunset answered, as Cal's eyes looked to the bacon-haired girl, before he smiled a little
"Right-o, not to waste time, since I care little for such a thing, lets get this started." Cal answered her, making many mumble to themselves, more about his position as a teacher, causing his head to hit the desk in deflation, his finger raised in the air. "Ok then, guess I'll make my rules clear from the get-go."
In an instant, Cal was back to his stance, his eyes piercing the hearts of many in the class, causing all mumbling to cut themselves off, then he grinned wickedly.
"Lets make this easy to understand. I have only two rules, you follow my instructions to the letter, especially when we get to the more 'life-threatening' stuff later in the year. Two....and I make this....very.....clear." Cal's voice dropped, causing many to freeze at the tension, before he smiled. "Any late reports will be dealt with....extreme measures, other than that, please try to pay attention, for someone of my age, I do have the knowledge to make this as easy, but informative as possible."
Many dropped at his change in tone, whist Skyler seemed to smirk at that, finding this 'teacher' to be more than he lets on, much to her shock, and awe, but if he was to be her teacher, she'd deal with it, whist Sunset seemed to have a far more difficult time trying to put it all together.
"I can't see this guy being a teacher, I mean, there's Princess Twilight, but this is stretching it." Sunset whispered to Skyler, but she only shrugged
"In all honesty, lets give it a shot, he seems to have a more positive outlook than the last one, that might actually make this more enjoyable, even to you, and its you we're talking about." Skyler replied with an even look, whist Sunset nodded in agreement
"Right, guess we'll start with the more....historical side of things, get the backbone cleared first....So, it all started by an unknown occurrence in the ether of void-" Cal started, his enjoyment of his hidden persona already becoming far more interesting than slaying legion of horrid factions for so long
What he didn't realize, was that his life wasn't going to be cut a short break, much like all occurrences in nature, there must always be balance with all that seek to disrupt it.
