Spike laid on the bed, staring at the dark ceiling with his hands folded across his stomach. His husband, Rumble, was sprawled out while snoring softly. Spike was in deep thought. It felt as if something was missing in his life. He had a wonderful husband, great friends, and awesome nieces and nephews to take care of.
Spike started to think about how cute children are. Their little smiles, their chubby cheeks, how energetic they are.How happy they look when they play with each other. Spike froze in realization.
He wanted a child.
Spike stood in front of the stove making pancakes. He thought about discussing a child with Rumble. He snapped out of his thoughts when his very sleepy husband walked into the kitchen.
“Mornin babe.” Rumble mumbled out before standing on his hind legs to give Spike a sloppy wet kiss on the cheek. He giggled at the feeling. Spike had grown so tall over that he had to walk on all fours.
Rumble sat down at the table, waiting for breakfast. As Spike finished making breakfast, he thought over how to start the conversation.
Spike handed Rumble a plate stacked with pancakes, chocolate chips, and syrup. His ears perked up at the sight of the pancakes and he excitedly picked up a fork. Spike sat down with his pancakes. They were covered in gems, whipped cream, and syrup.
Spike looked at Rumble who was scarfing down his food. He took a deep breath before speaking. “So Rumble, We’ve been married for three years and we both have well paying jobs so I’ve been thinking that....that we should adopt a kid.” Spike said nervously. Rumble’s eyes widened as he started to choke on his food. He managed to swallow his food before he choked to death.
“Spike I would love to have a child but I don’t think I’m ready for a kid yet.” Rumble stated. Spike nodded his head dissapointedly and slowly ate his pancakes. They both ate breakfast in uncomfortable silence. Once they finished eating, Rumble looked at the time and his eyes widened.
“IT’S EIGHT O’CLOCK, WE’RE LATE FOR WORK!” Rumble shouted. Spike’s eyes widened at the time. Spike tossed the dishes into the sink and gave Rumble a quick peck on the lips before flying out the front door. Rumble rushed upstairs and grabbed his duffel bag. He flew out a nearby open window.
The wind blew through Rumble’s hair as he rushed to work. He flapped his wings as fast as he could until they burned. He spotted the Wonderbolts Academy only a few feet away. He landed in front of the Academy building and quickly rushed into the locker room.
The locker room was completely empty. Rumble quickly put on his flight suit before rushing outside into the assembly line. He panted heavily, trying to catch his breath. “You made it just in time.” Scootaloo whispered to him. Before Rumble could respond their was a loud whistle.
Everyone stopped talking and stood up straight. Spitfire walked out with two guards by her side. “Listen up Wonderbolts, next week we have a show so we need to be perfect. Do fifty laps!” Spitfire ordered before blowing the whistle. Everyone rushed into the sky, eager to finish this excerise.
As Rumble flew he thought about the conversation he and Spike had earlier. ”Having a child is a lot of work. Feeding, temper tantrums, extra cleaning, extra work.” Rumble thought to himself. Another thought came to his mind. But that also means extra love, school shows, Father’s Day, watching them grow up.” He smiled at the thought. If he wasn’t flying, he would have froze in realization if he wasn’t flying.
”I want a kid.”
Rumble shook his head.”I don’t want a kid, I just like the idea of a kid.” Rumble thought. He sped up to clear his head.
“Today’s training was rough.” Scootaloo in a exasperated tone. Rumble nodded in agreement. They both walked through the streets of Ponyville. The streets were almost empty since everybody was at work. The only ponies outside was the sale ponies at the market, and even that was empty.
“I hope Chip Mint gets better soon enough for the performance, that was a nasty fall.” Rumble said.
“Yeah but at least it got us out of work early.” Scootaloo said cheerfully. They both made their way to SugarCube Corner for lunch. They entered the building and sat down at a table. The place was completely empty.
Mr. Cake walked up to their table holding a notepad. “What can I get for you?” Mr. Cake asked.
“I’ll get a tomato, pepper, lettuce, and mayo sandwich.” Rumble said.
“I’ll have the same thing without the peppers.” Scootaloo said.
Mr.Cake nodded his head and walked into the kitchen. Rumble turned to Scootaloo. “Hey Scoots, can I ask for some advise?” Rumble asked.
“Yeah what is it?”
“This morning Spike said he wanted a kid. That sounds amazing and all but I don’t think I’m ready. What do I do?” Rumble asked in a worried tone.
Scootaloo sat silently for a few moments before speaking. “Having a child is a lot of work and very hard to do. Extra cooking, extra cleaning, diaper changing.” Scootaloo listed off. Rumble cringed at the things.
“But having a child also comes with more love, caring, and a bigger family.” Scootaloo said. Rumble perked up at that. Before he could say anything Mr.Cake walked up with their sandwiches.
Scootaloo took a bite of her sandwich as Rumble stared at the table, thinking. His thoughts were cut off by the bell on the door ringing.
Sweetie belle and Applebloom walked in. Sweetie belle had a white unicorn foal with red hair named Apple Pie strapped to her side and Applebloom had a small yellow pegasus with purple hair named Shooting Star on her laying on her back.
Scootaloo’s eyes lit up at the sight of her wives and children. She walked over to them and gave them both a kiss on the cheek. “Mama!” Star said excitedly. Scootaloo picked her up and blew a raspberry into her stomach. She laughed loudly.
Rumble watched how great it looked to be a parent. “I’ve made my decision.” Rumble muttered to himself before taking a bite into his sandwich.
Rumble sat at the kitchen table a list of orphanages sprawled out on the table. Spike would be home any minute and Rumble couldn’t wait to tell him the great news.
“Rumble I’m home!” Spike shouted from the living room. His ears perked up at the sound of his husbands voice. “I’m in the kitchen!” Rumble shouted. Rumble heard Spike walking toward the kitchen with heavy footsteps.
When Spike walked in the kitchen, he tilted his head in confusion at the papers on the table. “What’s all of this?” He questioned. Rumble smiled lightly.
“I thought about what you said and you’re right, we’re both capable of taking care of a child.” Rumble said confidently. Spike raised his eyebrow.
“Are you sure? This morning you didn’t even want a kid.” Spike stated.
“I known what I said and I gave it some thought. It would be great to have another member of the family.” Rumble said with a smile. Spike grinned and wrapped his arms around Rumble, spinning him around and planting a passionate kiss on his lips. Rumble chuckled at his excited husband.
Once Spike put Rumble down, they both walked over to the table. “These are the list of orphanages in Equestria from most popular to least popular.” Rumble said. Spike nodded his head. “But first we need to discuss what age the child should be.” Rumble stated.
“How about a teenager?” Spike suggested. Rumble shook his head.
“Teen years can be rough and we’re new parents so that’ll be worse.”
“How about a child?”
“They’re really hyper. You see how AppleJack and Rainbow dash’s kids are? I don’t think I’m ready for that yet.”
“Then what about a baby?”
Rumble paused at the thought. ”A baby? That doesn’t sound to bad. They’re small and cute. Also for the first few months they don’t do much.” Rumble thought to himself.
“Having a baby is a great idea!” Rumble said with a smile. Spike smiled widely. They were finally going to have a family.
