Sunset Shimmer is a tool of war; a damned good one at that. Since as long as she could remember she was clawing and fighting her way through whatever her leaders threw her at and whatever was thrown at her. Where all others are born into the all-encompassing war machine, she is adopted, for she is not human. Although she knows it not, Sunset Shimmer was born a pony.

Twilight Sparkle, born a unicorn to a pair of political dissidents in a world of tyranny and oppressive governance, knows herself to be a harbinger of friendship and the farthest anypony could be from a soldier, despite her upbringing.

Two fates, hideously intertwined by bad luck and chance. Will they overcome the obstacles ahead or will they falter?
