Cougar Road

11:25 P.M

The Moon's light came only in scattered beams as the trees of Blackwood partly block the moon as if they are shadow guardians that are against the light.

The beams that manage to past the black trees shined down on the remote cement road of Cougar Road. The road was rundown and cracked but still passed as a drivable road. But it was still a lonely road as no sigh of civilization are around and only the haunting hills of Blackwood, covered by the towering wooden giants, keep it company.

That, and the small orange automobile that is parked at the side of the road. Its lights were still on and its hood was up, signaling car trouble. Its owner was fixing the engine with a tool box laying near his feet. Meanwhile, his friend was standing by, waiting for his friend to finishing fixing the car.

"You almost done Jake?" Said Frank, with a nervous glance at the woods that surround them. He was a hefty sort, as his meaty fingers were drumming nervously against his round belly.

"Keep your shirt on Frank, just need to make sure the nuts are screwed on tight." Jake said with an annoyed sigh. He was a lot more fit then his friend and wore a white cowboy hat.

"I just don't like being here any longer, whats with everything going on around here….And I also don't want to miss potato night." The round said embarrassingly at the last part.

Jake shook his head. "Maybe It'll do you some good having to wait for food, seeing how every time we come, you clean the Ashbark's fringe the second we arrive." He said with a balance of annoyance and humor.

"Hey, Food helps keep me calm. You know I have anxiety issues. And currents events aren't really helping me."

"Well, Im almost done so stop moaning."

The Conversation was over for now, as Frank looked around, making sure nothing was sneaking up on the two stranded ranch hands.

He and Jake had to work more shifts as their fellow coworkers ether had quit or, terrifyingly, disappeared without a trace. The latter was the reason the former had started to leave. People started to believe the place was haunted ether by dead indians or hunters that perished in the hills of BlackWood.

The Forest was eerie lately, as very few sounds of crickets chirped throughout the woods, accompanied by a light fog that lay low to the ground.

Frank never did like the woods, his mother always told him ghost stories when he was little. The woods would be a goldmine for Stephen King as nobody ever dared to camp or hike in the woods. Those that do, ether went missing or came back shaken at something they thought they had saw.

Frank then remembered that he had a nervous bladder.

"Jake, I really have to go"

Jake breathed out a curse. "For God sake, Im just about finished. You can hold it in until we get to the ranch."

"But I really-"

"Do you want to go take a piss out in BlackWood? Where People are never heard from again if they so much as take one step in?"

Frank didn't answered back.

"Yeah didn't think so."

Jake then finished fixing the engine and put back the wench inside the tool box.

"Alright, we can go now. Told ya I fix it in a jiffy" He said proudly as he slammed the hood down.

Only to see Frank gone.

Even though he was the calm one of the duo, Jake's nerves took hold of him.

"Frank!? Frank!?" He shouted, with a mix anger and fear.

He knew that Frank didn't just up and went to relive himself in a hurry as he was too chicken to go alone. This only set in Jakes mind that something was terribly wrong.

The woods were silent, as if Frank's presence was the reason to it had its insect minions to chatter with themselves.

Jake walked to the side of the car to call for Frank some more until a heart stoping thud came behind him.

He looked at back at the top of the hood and to his horror lay Frank. Dead to the world as a large tree branch had gutted him though his belly, covering it with blood and bits of fat.

Adrenaline took hold of Jake as franticly entered in the car, with shaking hands turning the engine keys. His engineer skills worked as the car roared to life and he put the pedal down to the floor as hard as he could.

The body of his dead friend rolled off the car as it speeded down the road but he didn't care as he knew that whoever did this was out there.

How they manage to grab Frank without a sound terrified Jake. But he is home free as the ranch is not far.

Just when Jake is about to reach a corner, The window of the passenger side shattered and chucks of his brain splattered on the driver side. Making his body lay against the now bloody window.

With its driver suddenly dead, the car went off the corner and flew down a steep hill. Making it land upside down in a ditch.

From the right side of the road, a figure appears out the bushes that the car had passed. He calmly walks forward to the edge of the corner where the car crashed. Carrying a carbine rifle with a smoking barrel.

He silently looked down at the wreckage, as if he was savoring the destruction he created.

The forest shook as the car suddenly exploded in flames, lighting the forest with its ember light.

Deeply satisfied with this result, the shooter strolled down the road. He was whistling a haunting tune as if it was just a walk in the park.

He passed a sigh that would've told the dead duo about their destination.

Author's Note

Finally I've written something! I thought about continuing Apple and the frog but I decide, why not make a slasher fic. Let me know what you think. The grammar, the violence, the horror. Anything.
