*Rumble, rumble*
Above Ponyville, rainclouds covered the sky and released water droplets, allowing them to fall graciously towards the ground. Puddles formed, reflecting the dark grey clouds above. The soil softened, becoming both slick and sticky. The sound of the rain pattering as it impacted with everything that wasn't covered. However, many who were outside either rushed to escape the water, or chose to ignore it.
"Wahoo!"
*Splash*
Unless, of course, you're Waterlily Puddle. A grown beige and green earth pony mare by appearance, but when it rained, she behaved like a filly. If she wasn't splashing around in puddles, she'd be running through the mud. To her, rain and thunderstorms were the greatest things in the world. Well, other than her best friend Wind Cloud.
Wind Cloud was a dark blue and white pegasus stallion that also liked the rain. But, not as much as his friend. He preferred to fly through it, doing tricks like barrel-rolls and loops. Getting dirty wasn't really his idea of fun in the rain.
"Hey, Wind!" Waterlily called from the ground, "Why don't you come down here and have some fun?"
"I am having fun." He retorted, flapping his wings and flying over her.
"You're having fun all by yourself?" Waterlily joked, grinning up at him and placing a hand on her hip, "With no one else with you?"
"Well you're here."
"I'm down here, on the ground."
Wind chuckled as he realized his mistake.
"Well, if you want, I could carry you around." He smirked, lowering himself to the ground and landing facing her, "Show you what the clouds look like up close."
"How generous of you." Waterlily replied as a thought crossed her mind, "But, I like it down here better. It's more stable."
Wind smiled at their verbal game of tag. However, his enjoyment of flying was growing impatient again.
"Well, that's fine then." He shrugged, turning away and getting ready to takeoff, "I guess I'll just have to enjoy mys-"
*Splat!*
He felt the impact of something soft and squishy hit his back, which caught him by surprise. When he reached around and took hold of what it was, he saw that his hand oozed with a big glob of mud. And he knew who was responsible for it.
"Hey!" He said, pivoting and facing her, "What gi-"
*Splat!*
Before he could say another word, another glob smacked against his chest and sprayed some onto his face.
"Stop doing that!" Wind snapped, wiping his hand across his face.
"Stop doing what?" Waterlily asked innocently, her hands behind her back, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Don't give me that. I know you threw mud at me."
As if the words were a trigger, Waterlily brought her hands from hiding and revealed another mudball. And an evil smile crossed her lips.
"Waterlily, don't do it." Wind said flatly, knowing full well who the mudball was for.
"Aw, why not?" Waterlily playfully pouted, pulling back her arm, "You've got some on you all ready. What's a little more going to do? You gonna melt like some witch?"
Wind facepalmed as the words entered his ears.
"Okay, first of all, it wasn't mud, it was water that did that." He stated, narrowing his eyes at the mare, "And second, if you throw that at me, you better be prepared for retaliation."
Hearing that, Waterlily thought for a few moments, before coming to a fairly reasonable choice.
"You're on!" She exclaimed, hurling the mudball at him.
*Splat!*
"That's it!" He snorted, charging at her.
Seeing her friend speeding towards her, Waterlily turned and ran as fast as she could, laughing as she did. She made a small mistake however, when she reached a dock on the edge of a lake. The water rippled as the raindrops touched the surface. Quickly, she turned around to face Wind and found herself trapped between the lake and him.
"My turn." Wind said with a devilish grin as her stepped closer to her, "And I think a nice swim ought to do you some good."
"I think the rain has done enough, don't you?" She retorted, now only a few inches separating the two of them.
"Uh... No."
*Splash!*
With little effort, Wind pushed Waterlily into the lake and smiled proudly.
"Oh, brrrr!" Waterlily gasped as she surfaced, rubbing her arms for warmth, "It's freezing in here!"
"Oh, you're fine." Wind replied, crouching down closer to her, "It's the middle of sum- Whoa!"
*Splash!*
Without warning, Waterlily reached up and grabbed Wind by his hands, pulling him into the (not so cold) water with her. Quickly Wind surfaced, gasping and wiping water from his eyes. But, he wasn't upset, instead he just chuckled and shrugged.
"I guess I should've expected that." Wind chuckled, looking down at his chest, "At least the mud was cleaned off."
"Would you like me to throw more at you?" Waterlily joked, raising an eyebrow and grinning.
Both laughed at that as they enjoyed floating in the lake with pouring rain and thunder. They stayed relaxed for quite some time, before Wind felt something odd in his chest. Looking over and seeing Waterlily floating nearby, the feeling grew warmer as a realization came to light.
"You know, this suits you, Lily." Wind said almost bashfully, using her most common name, "I mean, swimming in the rain and all that."
"Well, thank you, Wind. You're very- Ouch!"
Alerted by the tone in her voice, Wind swam up to her to help.
"What's wrong?!" Wind asked concerned.
"My foot touched something sharp." Waterlily said with a pained expression, "It hurts."
"Hang on. I'll check it out." Wind said, diving down to look.
Diving below the water, Wind looked to see what cause the problem. That's when he saw a large submerged sharp rock that Waterlily had accidently drifted over. He also saw a cut on her foot. It wasn't a big cut, but it was enough to cause some discomfort. Then he surfaced.
"You'll be fine." He reassured, wiping the water from his eyes, "You just drifted into a sharp rock."
"It still hurts though." Waterlily moaned, feeling some pain, "I think it's a good time to go home."
"Sounds good."
Both made their way to shore and stood up, letting the water fall off them. But, as they began walking, Wind saw his friend having difficulty.
"Here." Wind said, picking Waterlily up and carrying her bridle style, "I'll carry you home."
"How chivalrous." Waterlily giggled, allowing him to help her, "Why thank you, good sir."
Wind looked at her and felt the warmth in his chest grow again. But, he also noticed something, Waterlily was looking back at him differently then she normally did. Letting the warmth take control, Wind lowered his head and kissed Waterlily on the lips. But, he quickly pulled himself away before getting too carried off by the feeling.
"I-I... Umm... I'm sorry." He apologized, turning his head away in shame, "I didn't mean..."
He gave up as he felt Waterlily's hand caress his face gently. He looked back at her and saw that she had a warm smile on her face.
"Took you long enough." Waterlily said sweetly before Wind kissed her again.
With that, Wind carried his new girlfriend home and stayed with her as the rain and thunder continued into the night.

Hey, everyone.
This was just a one-shot that came to me. This was also an adaptation of a real life memory of mine and I figured I should share it.
