Part Four: Spike's New Girlfriend

Previous Chapter

Silk twirled himself around in front of the mirror. He wore a pretty, pink dress that he had found tucked away in his closet, and was amazed to find out that he had finally grown into it. His father had gotten him this dress when they had first adopted him. Silent Writer learned a powerful lesson that day.

Always allow your daughter to try the dresses on first, no matter how adorable it may look in the window.

"Made just for a dragon," Silk commented, looking himself up and down.

Not only did the dress match the color of his scales, but it also had loosely hanging, red ribbons spread out here and there. He just knew Spike wouldn't be able to resist, and then Silk thought back to his time with Spike just the other day ago, and smiled with a quivering lip.

"He..." Silk began to say. "He... actually did it with me. Just thinking about how shy he was at first just makes me oh, so tingly all over! Oh, my Spikey..."

He looked down, and grabbing hold of the fabric that surrounded his body, he tried hard not to allow his eager prick to ruin this lovely dress of his. "Easy, calm down... Save it for Spike, later on... At the... Castle?"

He looked into the mirror nervously, and almost seemed as if he hadn't thought this all the way through.

"I wonder how many rooms there are for us to have fun in."

Down the streets of marketplace Ponyville Silk went, happy to see more ponies noticing him today thanks to what he was wearing. Most of the time, out of a quick glance, ponies would assume him to be Spike, but Silk would sometimes get a scare out of someone completely unsuspecting followed by a more proper greeting. Rarity, however, hadn't noticed Silk until today.

It was the perfect glance of one another, too. She was with Pinkie when it happened, and at first, she almost called out to him. Although, when she saw that it wasn't even Spike, Rarity stopped herself just in time, and glared at Silk as he went on by. She could tell that he was headed for the castle, but didn't say a word to him.

As for Silk, he saw her, and took only a second to wave. He just kept going, though. Rarity, however, found herself questioning what that dragon's intentions were. After all, she couldn't tell that Silk was actually a boy. Aloud, she asked, "What's that female dragon doing headed for the castle?"

Pinkie looked, and said, "That's Silk. I met her already! She's really nice, and if I know anything, she's probably heading on over there to hang out with Spike."

Rarity couldn't allow Pinkie to see her concern, so she rolled her eyes, and did her best to appear absolutely normal. Inside, however, she wanted desperately to know more in order to make sure Spike wasn't befriending the wrong kind of dragon. Not that this one looked all that menacing to her in the slightest, but Rarity was just protective of Spike that way. She would simply have to probe Twilight for more information later on, when she wasn't so busy.

Meanwhile, Silk had reached the stairs that came up to a set of crystal doors. "Ahem," he said, clearing his throat while getting ready. "Spike! Check it out," Silk said happily, practicing before actually knocking on the door. "What do you think?" He asked, his claws clenched excitedly together, "Oh, what's that? You want me to spin around in a circle so that you can see? Of course!"

He turned himself around, showing off for nopony in particular.

"Tee-hee! I can't wait. Alright, here I go!"

He knocked at last, and waited. For a good while, nopony answered right away, but upon him reaching out for a second time, Twilight would be the one to open the door.

Silk gasped, his claw clenched still, and his sights locked directly onto Twilight's. For a good moment, they stared at one another curiously, but Silk had lost his nerve. "What the...?" Twilight asked.

Silk snapped out of it eventually, and said, "Oh, so sorry! Hi, I'm Silk. You must be Twilight Sparkle. Princess of Friendship, right? I'm sure you know all about me, too!"

Twilight blinked, still taking in what she was seeing, and hearing. "Wait... Know you? But... I've never seen you before."

Silk's excitement began to vanish. "Huh?"

"You certainly are a cute little dragon, though. Have you met Spike? He's my-"

"Met him?!" Silk asked, shocked.

"Err... I'm guessing you have?"

"I spent most of the day yesterday with him! He didn't say a word about this to you, like... at all?"

Twilight gulped, but shook her head. "No, not really. I thought he was with Rumble."

Silk's face was now red with embarrassment. "Ohh, I can't believe this!" He then turned around, crossing his arms, and as calmly as he could, Silk asked, "May I please come in?"

"Uh, sure...?"

Twilight moved out of the way, and upon entering, Silk would at first seem quite impressed with what the castle looked like from the inside, and then, he quickly returned to folding his arms. "Spike had better have a good explanation."

Twilight merely watched as her guest looked all around, an angry expression still on his face. "So, Spike spent most of the day with you? Not Rumble?"

Silk nodded at Twilight. "Yep! We played with my dollies mostly, but he said I could come see him again today. I just can't believe he didn't mention me. What's his deal?"

Twilight was blushing by now. "D-dollies?" She chuckled, and said, "I'm sorry, but you're just... so adorable! How did you and Spike even meet?"

Silk answered, "Rumble told him about me. So, is he around, or what?"

Twilight asked to herself, "Rumble, huh? That makes sense... And, yes, he's right this way." As Twilight walked along, she continued to ask, "So, you're a girl, huh?"

Silk gave Twilight his most gingerly laugh, and said, "Well of course I am! I suppose that's why Spike has an interest in me. I'm betting that he's never met another dragon that's the same age, and the same height as him."

Twilight had to nod at that remark. "No, he hasn't, actually." She seemed to frown at first, her mind wandering. Really, she was thinking about how this might effect Rarity, or even possibly Ember, but she managed to get her mind off of such things. "He's right in here. To be honest, I'm a little interested myself to see how he reacts to you being all upset with him."

Silk blushed at that and covered his lips, saying, "I can't be mad at Spike if you keep making me smile..."

"Oops! Sorry," Twilight said before opening the door. In the two went, and right across the room, laying down in his bed at the end of Twilight's was Spike. He was all bundled up with a comic book which hid his face perfectly, encouraging Silk to proceed.

He walked right on up to Spike, and just stood there for a long moment while crossing his arms. "Well?"

Spike visibly jumped, but he also kept his embarrassed face hidden. "Wh-who... is it?"

"Who do you think?"

The papers were slowly lowered. Spike carefully looked from Twilight to Silk, and hesitantly voiced, "Hi, Silk... H-have you met Twilight? T-Twilight, h-have you met m-my... new f-friend?"

Twilight teased, "Don't you mean... your new girlfriend?"

Spike snickered all too nervously, but Silk just smiled eagerly.

"Right," Spike spoke up reluctantly. "This is actually my new... g-girlfriend."
