100,000 Years Ago: Canterlot Castle

Fire. Smoke. Fear. Death.

That was all that could be found at Canterlot, the once great capital city of the Kingdom of Equestria.

What had once been a shining beacon of peace and harmony had been devastated by an invasion of creatures they had never before encountered. A strange insectoid race that were able to shapeshift and infiltrate the ranks of the Royal Guard, leading to many security leaks and failed plans.

What was worse were the reports of what happened to the towns they conquered.

Stories of people put in cocoons, their life forces drained until there was nothing left.

Truly it was the stuff of nightmares.

And now the swarm had finally descended upon Canterlot.

In the tallest tower of Canterlot Castle, two women stood and watched the battle raging throughout the city.

One woman, clearly the older of the two, had lightly tanned skin. Her hair seemed to shimmer and move as if by magic; her hair itself was a series of light blues, greens, and purples. She wore a simple white dress with gold accents, with a eight point sunburst sewn on the on her right shoulder. She wore a tiara on her head, a simple gold one with a sun engraved upon the front. Her purple eyes looked upon the kingdom, HER kingdom, with sorrow.

Her name was Celestia, the elder sister and one of the two princesses of Equestria.

Feeling a presence behind her, she asked "Are they ready, sister?"

The other woman wast in many ways, the opposite of her sister. Her skin was very pale, not unhealthy pale but pale enough to show she didn't see much sunlight. She wore a dark blue dress with black accents, and a crescent moon sewed onto her left shoulder. Her hair was mostly midnight blue, but had some lighter spots around the outer edges. Her eyes were a light green-blue, and while they mirrored her sisters sorrow, they also contained pain. And anger.

Her name was Luna, the younger sister of Celestia and the other princess of Equestria.

She nodded. "They are. All that's left is to cast the spell."

Celestia sighed. "Good. Let's go then."

As they moved down the hallway, Luna looked to her and asked "Are you sure this will work?"

"It has to" was the curt reply. "I refuse to let our people be used as nothing more than food for these glorified locusts."

Suddenly an explosion sounded outside the castle walls. Luna looked out the nearby window and immediately saw hundreds if not thousands of black shapes swarming through a large hole that had been punched through the thick stone of the furthest wall of the kingdom. "They've breached the outer wall!"

Celestia glared, and her right hand glowed with golden light. She then threw her glowing hand up, and a glowing dome of golden magic appeared around the castle, stopping the invaders in their tracks. "We need to move. My shield spell won't hold them for long."

They immediately ran through the hallway, not stopping for a moment until they reached their destination; a large metal door. Luna placed her hand upon the door, and it glowed briefly before the door slowly opened.

Celestia then put a hand to her head. "The shield just failed. We don't have much time."

Luna looked at her and asked "How long will it take for us to cast the spell?"

"At most, one minute."

Luna's hand glowed white, before her shadow separated from her body and rose off the ground. It then began to grow and change color, until a near identical copy of Luna stood in front of her and Celestia. The real Luna said "Defend this door. Do not let anyone or anything through."

The copy nodded, before focusing its limited magic and creating a large scythe; a black pole and blade, with a large crescent moon serving as the counter-weight. It then turned towards the hallway, standing at the ready.

As the two princesses entered the chamber, closing the door behind them, they immediately focused on what was inside.

In the center of the room were six marble pedestals. Upon each were a gemstone in a different shape and color: a red lightning bolt, a blue butterfly, a white diamond, a yellow apple, a pink balloon, and finally a purple six-point star.

Celestia walked into the middle of the room, positioning herself in the middle of all the pedestals while Luna took up a position on her right. Both of them focused their magic, their hands glowing with their respective colors. The six gem stones glowed in unison, magic streaming out of them and surrounding the two princesses in a rainbow colored force field. Both of their eyes glowed white, as they focused on the spell that they would soon cast.

However, the door into the chamber was soon destroyed by a power blast of green-and-black magic. Once the dust settled, a single figure strutted right into the chamber.

She was clad in dark green armor with certain plates on her arms, legs and chest. From her back extended two semi-transparent wings similar to that of her insectoid drones, but much bigger and their veins pulsed with a sickly green magic. Her skin itself was dark gray. She smiled, revealing a mouth filled to the brim with sharp fangs. Most unsettling were her eyes, which had serpentine slits for pupils, and irises that glowed with the same sickly green magic as her wings did.

Still focusing on the spell, Luna looked at her and asked "You're the queen, I presume?"

The woman nodded, and replied "I am Chrysalis, Queen of the Changeling Swarms."

"Why did you attack us" Celestia asked. "Our people have no quarrel with your kind."

There was a small pause, before Chrysalis let loose a cackle that chilled their bones. She then replied "It's simple, your highness. Survival of the Fittest. My people need to feed off of energy; whether it's magic, life force or strong emotions. We infiltrate kingdoms, then we strike and feed until there's nothing left." Her hand glowed green, and she pointed it at the two of them. "And once I kill you two, the rest of your kingdom will follow."

"Not today, Chrysalis" they both said in unison.

And with that, they cast their spell.

The six gems unleashed a massive blast of rainbow energy, surrounding Queen Chrysalis and holding her in place. With the link she had with her drones, she could tell that they too were being effected by the spell.

And then she felt her soldiers disappearing, and the realization of what was happening dawned on her.

"You're sealing my army and I away?" She laughed at that. "That won't stop this. We may be trapped wherever you send us for thousands of years, but we will return! We will overrun this world, just as we have all others. ALL WILL FALL BEFORE MY HIVEEEEEE!!!"

And with a final flash of light, she disappeared...

In the millennia to follow, the Kingdom of Equestria would fade away until it was nothing more than a legend.
The funny thing about that?
Some legends... are very, very real.

Author's Note

So, you might not know this since my first fanfic I posted on the site was a DC crossover, but my favorite show growing up was Power Rangers, with my favorite season being Jungle Fury. And since I love both MLP and Power Rangers, I figured why not combine them?

Yeah, I know. I'm not the first person to do this and I certainly won't be the last. But I don't write these stories for fame or to do something groundbreaking. I do it because it's fun and I want to share my ideas with everyone (or everypony) on this site.

So spoilers, the suits and zords will be mostly original ideas from me. I won't just be giving them the original Mighty Morphin suit and zords (because I've seen/read about five that already do that.) or any of the suits and zords from previous seasons.

Also, despite the fact that I included the human tag, this will not be taking place in the Equestria Girls universe. If it was you'd see that tag.

So, I hope you guys enjoy the show.

And may the power protect you.
