It was normal, average Ponyville day. Twilight Sparkle was in her library studying the fundamentals of how magic can be used to help a ponies mental state. Psychology the study of the mind, the Earth ponies called it. Twilight had studied it like most scientists, but their was just one pony that baffled all meaning of the word Psychology. That pony, the element of laughter herself Pinkie Pie. The purple unicorn read she had similar characteristics to being Manic Depressive. This was just based on one instance of the party they planned for her. This also proved she was at least slightly Dependent and Paranoid in the way she acted towards her friend saying they hated her. However these were again just based on a single event. The lavender unicorn knew like her 'Pinkie Senses' she would need to scientifically analysis her. Thankfully she had invited her over. The pink pony bounced in happily.
“Hi Twilight!” She smiled.
“Hi Pinkie Pie, Spike gots the testing equipment setup for you down stairs.” Twilight smiled.
“Ok! What are we doing again?” Pinkie asked.
“We are going to do tests to find out how you think. Psychology isn't helping me much with this so we are going to try magic.” The magical pony smiled.
“Oh, ok!” the pink pony just bounced down stairs. Twilight followed.
The room was pretty dark illuminate only by the light from the electric equipment and the strangely glowing vials of chemicals. Spike strapped Pinkie into a machine it seemed like a giant helmet like bowl with random wires connected to a generator that converted thoughts into data.
“She strapped in tight?” Twilight asked.
“Yah, we are ready to begin!” The purple dragon responded.
“Whhhoooa! This looks cool!” The earth pony smiled.
“Now we just got to try my magic.” The purple pony said as he horn glowed.
“You sure about this Twilight?” The number one assistant asked.
“I'm sure Spike! If I can find out what Pinkie thinks and acts we can understand her better! We must do it in the name of science!” The unicorn said almost heroically.
“Alright, I'm kinda curious too.” Spike chuckled.
Twilight's horn flashed and magic bursted from it. The equipment shot sparks until a hot flash enveloped the purple unicorn and she vanished. Pinkie and Spike were out cold from the force.
The dazed unicorn wakes up to find herself in a dark space like area filled with glowing stars. Cows were floating overhead as chickens mooed. A castle could be seen in the distance. It looked like Princess Celestia's only black and gray. 'Am I in Canterlot?' The unicorn wondered if this was Discord's doing. She jumped fearing for the Princess and galloped towards the castle noticing the darkness dripped upward from the 'ground'. She stood infront of the dark castle viewing that it was guarded by a purple and white pegasus with a green mane. He wore dark royal guard armor and had a turnip for a cutie mark.
“What is your business here? The colt stared.
“I'm here to see the Princess..” Twilight said a bit nervous.
The pegasus just got out of her way and let her through. As the unicorn looked around she grew more tense shivering slightly scared from her surroundings. Everything was drained of its color inside and out. She got flashes of death. Seeing Ponyville in flames. The images stopped suddenly causing her to sigh heavily and pant. She wasn't sure if this was Discord's doing anymore. It seemed more grim then chaotic. She walked into the throne room where she stood shocked to see a captured Celestia caged and shackled with a dark gray and short black maned earth pony guarding her with a rock on his flank. Her mouth was taped shut. A mare unicorn stood next to the ruler along with a stallion unicorn. The mare look rather posh and was a beige color with silver straight mane and tail. She wore a decorated white dress she had a flour bag cutie mark. The stallion unicorn had a halberd attached to his horn, he was a light green with a brown short cut mane and was fully armored like the first royal guard Twilight met at the door. He had what looked like to be lint on his flank.
“W-what is all this?” The baffled lavender unicorn shook.
“Well, my dear Twilight Sparkle finally you show yourself.” A dark figure walked from the throne into the light revealing a pink earth pony with straight mane and tail.
“Y-you...P-pinkie?” Twilight shivered filled with fear.
“Pinkie? Oh no, no, no, I am not that mare. I am Pinkamena ruler of Equestria.” The dulled pink pony smirked.
Images of the battle that happened in the room flashed violently into her mind. The six ponies fighting against Pinkamena only to be defeated, this included Pinkie Pie. She saw herself teleport her friends with the last of her strength as the malicious pink pony personally beheaded her. Celestia stood no chance to stop her and was forced to bring to life Pinkamena's imaginary friends Rainbow Dash had told her about. Questions rose to her head. How could they lose? How was Pinkie Pie fighting Pinkamena? Why did Twilight die?
“S-so you killed me?” the unicorn stuttered.
“Yes, you let the others get away. I could not let such an intolerable action go unpunished.” The former party pony grinned. “And now your here again. Giving me a second chance to enjoy my actions.” She laughed darkly. “Maybe there is a god.” She looked at the captured Celestia with a malicious grin.
She walked closer slowly towards Twilight. She held a kitchen knife in her mouth her eyes looking lifeless as she walk seemed to slow. Her vision blurred with her slow hearing the trotting of her hooves echo. The unicorn tried to move, but she was frozen in fear as the other ponies in the room stared at her with vile grins. The fearful pony's vision inverted as her heart pounded heavily. The dark pony finally reached Twilight raising the knife overhead. Pinkamena's voice pulsed in her head. 'This is your farewell party!'
Before the knife finished her she vanished. 'A spell?!' Pinkamena thought. Twilight woke up in what looked to be Sweet Apple Acres with Rarity laying next to her sleeping. 'You've only delayed your demise.' The malicious pony's voice pulsed again. She noticed Fluttershy wrapping her neck in bandages.
“Aw, thank Celestia Twilight yer awake!” Applejack walked into her line of vision. “Gosh Twi, Pinkamena cut you deep though, but Fluttershy says y'all be ok.”
Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash looked to see their friend. Pinkie looked worried and sad. “I-I'm sorry Twilight. I-I didn't want her to kill you...”
Twilight looked at the crying pony smiling. “I'm just glad to see it's you and not her. Don't be sad Pinkie I'm just glad to see I didn't die for no reason.”
“Yeah, I don't like being sentimental, but we thought you were gone for good. We know she killed you so we are just shocked to see you're back.” The rainbow maned pegasus smirked.
The unicorn got another flashback seeing the five of the other ponies with Trixie and Big Macintosh standing in the middle of a war torn Ponyville as Pinkamena rolled the dismembered head of the lavender unicorn in front of them. His troop stood by as she walked away letting her friends teared and fought against her dark royal guard. The guard were defeated, but the tears of the ponies except Big Macintosh still covered the battlefield.
“I-I just got a vision.. Where are Big Macintosh and Trixie.” Twilight got up looking around.
“They are just fine Twilight. Rarity and Trixie are worn out a bit. It took a lot of magic to teleport you from that far.” the coy pony smiled.
“Eeyup!” Big McIntosh walked in through the barn door.
She hadn't noticed it before, but her friends looked like they had been in serious battles before. They were covered in scares and dirt. All except Rarity who managed to somehow keep her appearance through all this.
“Yep, Big Macintosh here has been leading us all in this battle against Pinkamena.” Applejack smiled looking proud at her brother.
“Eeyup!” The work horse warrior smiled.
The pink pony walked over to Twilight and hugged her. “I missed you sooooo much, Twilight!”
Twilight smiled and hugged her back and all the mares joined in feeling like forever since they seen her alive. The hug lasted for a while before they all let her loose. Rainbow looked baffled.
“I hate to sound ungrateful, but how are you alive anyways?”
“Well, last I remember I casted a spell on Pinkie and then was transported near Canterlot.”
Pinkie looked confused. “I don't remember that ever happening Twilight.”
Now Twilight was confused. She wasn't sure if she traveled forward in time, but now it looked like she wasn't even sure where she was. Then she recalled she was doing mind experiments so she might actually be in Pinkie Pie's mind. She knew telling the other ponies that she was from the real world wouldn't help.
“I'm not sure what happened, but I'm glad to be here with all of you.” The unicorn tried avoiding the subject.
Rarity and Trixie woke up with a yawn. Trixie and Rarity walked towards Twilight.
“Hm! I knew The Great and Powerful Trixie's rival could not be defeated by the Pink One.” The arrogant unicorn smirked.
Rarity smiled. “Darling I'm so thriller to see your alright.”
“It's so good to see you two again! Thank you so much for saving me!” The lavender unicorn hugged them both smiling.
Though she was smiling Twilight was a bit confused. What was Trixie doing in Pinkie's mind? It was odd to think that she had a place in her mind for her since she left a negative impact on Ponyville. She was more enemy then friend, but she seemed a bit different. Perhaps it was the pink pony had altered her personality in her mind and made her out to be somepony else.
“Alright now that everyponies up it's time we did some planin'.” The farm mare smiled.
Twilight blinked realizing someone was amiss. Spike wasn't there, she was wondering what happened to her number one assistant. “Where is Spike?”
“Oh, yeah he went to find Princess Luna. In order to defeat Pinkamena were gonna need all the help we can get.” The cyan pegasus explained.
Twilight tried to speak, but no words came out. When she blinked everyone was gone. Silence filled the now empty room. She looked aimlessly for her friends, but found nothing. 'What is going on?' A water dropping noise echoed in her ear. The pony twitched as the sound got louder with every drip. The once quiet room filled with screams of her friends. The lavender mare was growing terrified, she felt helpless to stop the torture slamming her head to the barn wall. She only stopped when she noticed a pool of blood under her with torn bits of her skin. She screamed as her skin peeled off falling to the floor layer by layer. A familiar grim voice laughed over head. 'I own you Twilight. You are mine to toy with till I end you.' Twilight looked up not seeing her predator, but a skinless corpse of what looked to be her. The fearful mare began to cry ducking down and covering her head with her hooves, fearing for her life. Her brain pulsed from the screams and her body trembled from the horror.
“Darling? Are you alright?” Rarity asked.
She got up and looked around. The screams stopped. Everything seemed fine, everypony was alright. She had noticed she had not moved and nothing had changed, but by the looks of it everypony heard her screams. 'W-was it just a dream?' she wondered. She was panting heavily in a cold sweat. Her pain was still there though. Her head still throbbing. She was relieved, but at the same time scared.
“What happened Twilight?” The pink pony asked.
“I-I heard voices..screaming. P-pinkamena she's watching me...” Twilight shivered.
There was a short silence. “How? She hasn't gotten in our heads.” Trixie broke the silence.
“I think maybe she might be connected differently then we are on account she died once.” The red stallion pointed out.
“There you go again with yer fancy mathematics, Big McIntosh.” The orange mare smiled.
“Eeyup.” Big Mac smiled.
“We got to do something, everypony! I don't want poor Twilight to suffer because of mean old Pinkamena!” The hyper pony bounced.
A loud voice was heard echoing through the barn. “I hast returned!” Spike and Luna walked in.
“Spike, Luna! Your safe.” The lavender unicorn jumped for joy.
“What hast that crazy wretch done to this place?” the dark alicorn looked around confused.
“Spike, didn't you explain everything?” The ivory unicorn asked.
“You try explaining it to her she's always yelling. I explain most of it she just doesn't understand how an earth pony can do all this.” the purple dragon explained.
That was actually a good question. How did a single earth pony defeat the six elements of harmony and an alicorn with ease. Twilight couldn't understand it either. “I'm actually curious how that happened too. It makes no sense to me.”
“Well, she was wielding a different power something a bit deeper then magic. She used fear. Pinkamena is not like a normal earth pony, she's a creature of the mind a very part of Pinkie. Everypony has magic, Pinkamena being a part of Pinkie's mind has a great force of magic since it comes from the mind. She's able to make our horror look real.” The dragon explained.
“F-fear makes us freeze, makes unicorns unable to focus to use magic, and makes pegasus wings cringe.” Fluttershy said with a cold shiver.
Twilight remembered that the yellow pegasus couldn't fly when they went to face the dragon. Her wings just locked up. When she was reading about Psychology to better understand Pinkie she did come across fear. She had no idea the power that it had until now. 'Well it looks like I'm going to have to put an end to Pinkie's fear.' She thought.
“Now that everypony is here we all gotta attack that castle of hers.” Big Macintosh said.
“To arms!” Luna yelled this and the ponies equip themselves with armor Spike grabbed his sword.
The armor was different for the earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns. Earth ponies wore full suits of heavy looking armor with chainmail around the joints for free movement. Pegasi wore dark royal guard armor likely gotten from the fallen guards. Unicorns wore robes armored with chainmail underneath.
“Here you are Twilight. The Great and Powerful Trixie could not let her rival face odds without being equipped.” The Powerful one handed her some robes that were armored with chainmail.
The unarmored unicorn gratefully put it on. “Thank you, Trixie.”
“Do not mention it, Twilight Sparkle.” The arrogant pony smiled.
“Finally! I've been ready to give that psycho the hoof!” Rainbow yelled.
The team of ponies marched out of Apple Acres and into the remnants of Ponyville. Blood caked dirt, destroy buildings, and complete loss of color. It was sad to think that they all lived here once. Even it was just an image to Twilight, it terrified her to think this was possible. The ground was shaking.
“They're comin'!” Applejack exclaimed.
Undead ponies raised from the ground. Familiar faces surrounded the battlefield. Their torn flesh ripped further from their rising, the colors of the once colorful herd was dulled. The risen marched toward the group of fighter.
“Get ready!” The stallion commanded. Everypony readied themselves knowing that the fight would be grim.
The earth ponies and Spike charged in first attempting to sever the zombies frontlines. The pegasi had to flight preparing to swoop down on the undead. The unicorns and alicorn stood in the back charging spells to rain on their foes. Applejack and Big Mac were the first in the attack bucking two zombies at diagonal angles sending them crashing into their frontlines. Pinkie used a variant of pies and cakes against the hoards that hid large rocks. Spike ran in slashing without a thought slaying as many as he could. Rainbow and Fluttershy flew and dived striking the frontlines. The four magicians were charging and combining magic into a Megaspell. 'Not today.' a sinister voice said as a scream from a banshee echoed in the spellcasters head. The team lost control of the spell and it exploded large enough to cover the battlefield. The zombies were eliminated, but the ponies were injured. Bodies and parts of the fallen ponies scatter the field.
Twilight struggled to raise to her feet. “I-Is everypony, ok?
She receive no response. Eventually her friends began to rise from their fallen state.
“Thank Celestia! Are you ponies alright?” The lavender unicorn smiled.
It didn't take her long to realize her friends were gone. They clopped toward her slowly, eyes pale with absences of life. The only returning words were lifeless moans. Twilight froze trying to teleport her way out of this, her magic failed. 'Nothing can protect you from fear...' The unicorn couldn't fight her friends. If she lost them then she couldn't, she needed her friends now, or did she? She was fine before alone with just Spike.. Maybe she didn't need them. She grinned maliciously. 'Give into-' She woke up from what she realized to be a nightmare to Applejack slapping her. The earth ponies were crowded around her.
“Snap out of it Twilight!” the mare yelled slapping her again.
“I-I'm fine Applejack.” Twilight sighed in relief.
“Are you sure? You had a really scary grin on your face and your made that ball in the sky go kaboomy!” The pink earth pony bounced.
The unicorn smiled refreshed to hear Pinkie's humor. “Is everypony ok?”
“Nnnope, they took some major injury, but thar all alive. Luna's alright, but I had to send her off on account all the ponies that were injured she was the only one that could carry them to the barn. Yer two friends though, Rainbow Dash and Trixie couldn't let you go without them.” Big Mac explained.
Trixie and Rainbow Dash trotted over to the group. “The Great and Powerful Trixie could not let her rival upstage her!” The colorful maned pony giggled. “Oh please, you know your tagging alone because you care about Twilight.”
Trixie blushed, pouting and turning away. “Trixie never said such a thing!”
“And ponies said I hide my emotions.” Rainbow laughed.
Pinkie jumped up and down as if she was made of sugar. “I'm so glad you ponies are coming! Now we can cheer and party and get rid of that party pooper Pinkamena!”
Twilight giggled softening from her previous terror. She wasn't sure what to think of the horror, but she knew this was becoming much more then a simple analysis of Pinkie's mind. The red stallion gave the order and the ponies headed for Canterlot. When they reached the castle it looked no different then when Twilight was here earlier. The guard pony from before was gone and the door open.
“Anypony else smell a trap?” Rainbow Dash pointed out.
“Eeyup, but we ain't got much a choice in this case.” The stallion pointed out.
“We need to stop that Pinkamena and save Equestria!” The farm mare exclaimed.
“Trixie agrees with this! For Trixie!” The great and powerful one exclaimed.
“For Friendship!” The purple unicorn yelled.
“Because they can take away our lives, but they can never take away our FREEDOM!” Pinkie yelled.
The ponies charge in after the line that was so not stolen from a movie. The castle was just as lifeless as it was before. Nothing seemed to light up the dull and colorless castle. They reached the throne room with Pinkamena and her four guard staring the team down. Celestia's horn was severed and she laid lifeless at the floor of Pinkamena's throne. “W-what have you done to her?!” Twilight yelled. “Poor, poor ignorant child. Can you not see with your eyes? She is gone, drained away from all existence.” She grinned darkly kicking Celestia's corpse off to the side. Everypony was trembling. “How did I kill a god you may ask? I severed her horn an vanquished her with her own..delicious..power.” They noticed Pinkamena had Celestia horn in her mouth. She was not speaking to them only in their thoughts. “The only way to kill a god...Is to become a god.” The ponies froze, but eventually broke out of the trance. Their will was overriding their fear. The malice filled pony just grinned. “Oh, not afraid our we? I'll just have to make sure you never move again. Rocky, Mr. Turnip make them scream.”
Mr. Turnip smirked flying high. “With pleasure.”
Rocky stomp his hooves. “I hope ya don't like walkin'!” The earth pony said in a Brooklyn accent.
Rainbow Dash flew up eying the pegasus with a battle ready grin. “I'm going bust a Sonic Rainboom up in this bitch!”
The work stallion smiled. “I reckon it's my turn to teach you why y'aller on the wrong side.” He charged at Rocky.
“Madam, may vi join zi fight?” The flour flanked unicorn asked.
“Oh, please take your pick, but the Pinkie and Twilight are mine!” She grinned.
“I'll take the ruffian, you take the unicorn with the forehead, Madam LeFlour.” The male unicorn grinned.
“What the hay did you just call me!?” The two yelled.
“Uh!I vish I had not to take out zis vile creature, Sir Lints-a-lot.” The pony said in a french accent.
“How, dare you?! The Great and Powerful Trixie, is the most desired pony in all of Equestria! How dare such a low class witch call me such!” The arrogant pony yelled.
“Gee, talk about havin' a big head.” AJ chuckled.
The dulled pink pony walked off her throne vanishing then appearing in front of Pinkie Pie and Twilight. “Well, It looks like you have proven to be quiet the nuisance Twilight Sparkle.”
“Leave Twilight alone you big meanie!” Pinkie Pie said in a serious tone.
“Oh please Pinkie save it. Your nothing without me and I'm everything without you. Part of you even doesn't know why your here. Your friends hate you, they want you erased forever, they want you to stop breathing.” The malicious pony grinned.
Pinkie started pounding her head, beginning to cry. “T-that's not true!” Everypony was gone from Pinkie's sight only Pinkamena remained in front of her.
Pinkamena stroked her mane. “Don't worry, they all hate you, but I'll be your friend. I'll take care of you protect you. No matter how worthless you are.” She grinned maliciously.
“N-no! Everypony would never abandon me! They are my friends!” Pinkie yelled through her tears.
“Are they really your friends? Look around you, they are all gone left you to die. We don't call those friends.” The dulled pony said slowly.
Pinkie looked around, the evidence was everywhere. Her friends were gone. She couldn't see anyone else except Pinkamena. She clung to Pinkamena crying feeling as though her friends had betrayed her.
“Y-your right...” Pinkie said sadly as her color dulled and her hair flattened. She looked like Pinkamena now.
“Help me execute those worthless former friends of yours.” Pinkamena grinned.
The illusion faded. Pinkie looked angry haunted by the hate of abandonment.
“Pinkie, what happened?” Twilight asked confused.
“Just a bit of learning who my friends are..” Pinkie said darkly.
Pinkie looked at Twilight with spiteful eyes. Glaring at her darkly, but she the roundhouse kicked Pinkamena sending her into the castle wall. Blood dripped from the pink terrors lip as she grinned whipping it off. “Nice shot, shame it will be your last.” She looked at the battlefield noticing her guards were defeated. She grunted and spat at their worthlessness. Arms stretched from the floor wrapping Twilight in their grip. She then grinned vanishing from the line of site then slashing the tendons in the back of Pinkie's hooves immobilizing her. The pink pony cried in pain as the pony met the slasher in front of her quivering for her life.
“Leave her alone!” Twilight yelled.
The sinister pony grinned. “Once she is a corpse you can have her. I want to see you alone before I finish you....slowly.”
Something ticked in the unicorn's head. She was losing it her mane became a mess and a maniacal grin painted her face. Celestia's horn lit up levitated an ax falling down on Pinkie's neck, the pink pony looked helplessly tearing at her executioner, but the blow was stopped by the teleporting lavender unicorn whom had used her horn to block the blow. Twilight forced the villain’s ax away, Twilight's eyes were staring her down. Her friends approached the her severely injured from the fight. They looked in shocked at the shaky crazed looking unicorn that was in front of them. “I-I wonder what your insides look like, lets d-dissect!” The crazed unicorn slashed the dark one across the eye with her horn. Pinkamena jumped away grinning at Twilight. “The only thing I love more then fear, seeing a pony's walls of sanity collapse.”
The two charged at each other slashing the horns at each other. The grim pink pony clashed the stolen horn against the unicorn. She knocked the unicorns head down with a forceful swing taking the longer recovery time to slash her in the spine. Not even a scream of pain escaped Twilight as she recovered and slashed across Pinkamena's front hooves downing her. The maniacal unicorn went for the executing thrust at the downed pony, but she vanished behind her upright bringing the horn into her back and erupted it with magic blasting the unicorn into a personal crater in the ground. “I wanted to end this and have a bit more fun, but you leave me no choice but to end you now!” The dark pony smirked. Before she could charge her spell Big Mac bucked her into the wall, Applejack then quickly lassoed her into the ceiling which Trixie launched her through with a fireball that exploded on impact. As the malicious pony flew into the sky Rainbow Dash flew high above her charging force before slamming into her back as she charged as Sonic Rainboom. When she hit the floor of the castle it exploded as a rainbow circular blast destroying the structure. The team of ponies had tumbled away except for Twilight who was stuck in a crater. Pinkamena struggled to get up as hate boiled in her eyes. She picked up the weakened rainbow maned pony with magic. The pegasus grinned and spat blood in her face. “I'm going to make you scream!” The furious pony yelled as thrusted the horn at Dashes neck, but dropped it before she could finish her. She looked at Dash with surprised eyes as the both dropped to the ground. She looked back to see Twilight grinning with a blood cover horn and twitchy left eye. “H-Hey, Guuuuurls!” Pinkamena's face pale as she trembled at the sight of the blood thirst unicorn. She tried to move her body, but no response. She began to tear up and cry fear setting into the once terrifying earth pony. Twilight then laughed darkly as she pointed her horn at the crying pony.
“Wait!” Lavender pony turned around to look at the injured pink pony clinging to her hoof.
Flashes of light returned to the unicorns mind returning the thoughts of her friends and the fun they shared together. She remembered she couldn't lose herself to this feeling.
“Pinkie?” The unicorn said confused she began snapping out of the trance and looked down at her.
“We can't kill her..because she's part of me. I need her.” The pink pony said.
As if opening her eyes for the first time in a while it felt. Twilight noticed Pinkamena was no threat for she was defeated. The pink pony crawled over to the she whimpering Pinkamena. Pinkamena looked at her with tear rolling off her face. “W-when we were on the rock farm, we had no friends only work and tears. I never notice that you were my friend and you always would be..” Pinkie giggled fillishly. “Even if you are super crazy your still part of me and that makes all of my friends your friends.” Pinkie hugged her. “We are never alone...”
Light bursted from the hug as light washed over this Equestria returning life to the fallen and structure to all that was destroyed. Pinkie and Pinkamena smiled at Twilight. “Thank you soooooooo much for returning happiness to all Equestria!” “You returned harmony to our mind and for that we thank you, Twilight Sparkle.”
With that the ponies vanished and Twilight appeared in her lab. She noticed Pinkie was where she was before and was waking too. Spike however was sleeping.
“Hiya Twilight! Did you have fun exploring my brain?” The pink pony smiled as she bounced to her.
“Well it was kinda of a nightmare and I'll never do it again, but it was interesting..” Twilight smiled happy to see her bouncing pink friend happy as can be.
“I'm really glad you did because now I'm friends with myself again! Your the best friend ever, Twilight!” The jumpy pony bounced embracing her friend.
The lavender unicorn smiled. “I'm happy to have made a difference and help a friend. You saved me from myself too. Thank you so much!” The two hugged happily.
