The Red Sun Rises: The Final Dawn
Queen Andromeda, daughter of the late Atlantean soldier and worldwide hero Crimson Dawn and his wife, the widowed Rose Thorn, rules Atlantis in her mother and grandmother's stead with a kind and gentle heart. Under her watchful eye, technology has rapidly advanced, bringing both oil-fired and magic-fueled vehicles into the spotlight as both frontline weapons and civilian transport. Both the Atlanteans and their former enemy, the Dominion of Apollo, are closely allied with similar equipment on land, in air, and sea, and Equestrian industry has helped both economies recover and rebuild from the devastating Atlantean-Dominion War only six years before the Equestrian-Crystal War, better known as the Equestrian World War.
But the Dominion wasn't always north of Atlantean territory. Thousands of years ago, its citizens' ancestors lived in the modern-day Crystal Empire and were slowly scattered across the planet, chased by a hostile entity. This history is supported by the discovery of the iron-hulled Dominion destroyer by Atlantean explorers just before the Atlantean-Dominion War. It's verified by Dominion legends, Equestrian myths, and Crystal artifacts. Seven thousand years ago, the Dominion's predecessor civilization lived in peace and prosperity. They had technology equivalent to the modern standards. So why did they leave? What happened to their society?
Only the ancient archives in Buckingham Palace, where the ruling family of the Dominion has lived for generations, tell of the Protectors of Knowledge, who have destroyed entire empires and reduced the Frozen North to the snowy wasteland it now is. Three thousand years ago, they turned the southern lands to desert. Sometimes they attacked directly, other times they assassinated rulers. One thing was clear, though: the civilizations of Equus were not permitted to advance their technologies past what the Americans call the 1930s. They could build repeaters, machine guns, tanks, aircraft--but were eliminated before they could create the atomic bomb.
Meanwhile in Equestria, Princesses Celestia and Luna feel the presence of a species not felt in three millennia approaching Equus. The Protectors have come in force--and this time, they're here to destroy everything, and leave nothing behind.
Just like last time, the Dominion is gearing to defend its home. But now, they're not alone. This time, Atlantis and Equestria are standing fast, and with a permanent interdimensional portal to the human world, the fate of the human race is tied to the ponies'. But with humanity in war-wracked turmoil, the Dominion's most secret, resource-intensive project is brought to light for one final mission.
Operation Final Dawn has begun.

Don't expect updates on a regular basis, as Final Dawn is not a priority for me to work on right now. This story is mostly tying up loose ends that I forgot about when writing the rest of the series, especially with the faction that forced the Dominion's ancestors to leave their home in the Crystal Empire and migrate to their current home. They have been integral to the development and history of this AU, and to leave them out of the actual story would be a travesty.
