Years ago during the reign of the ancient empire. Ponydom was not as it was. We were a race of short horse like creatures barely able to communicate with each other let alone, other races. As such we were seen by the humans as an amusing race.

They saw how rapid are breeding was due to the herd mentality, with the desire to breed with the strongest. Ensuring large swaths of foals being born. From this the Imperial began the first uplifting of our race. Starting with the more intelligent Alicorns, who seemed to be two times stronger and more magically adept then the other pony races. However this uplift would lead to the first and only war that ponydom ever fought against mankind.

The mutilation war.

A conflict that spanned all of equestria and the lands of ponydom. Where in arrogance and greed the queens and high king of Alicia. Illegal enhance their fellow ponies, not out of kindness of familial love. But to create the sufficient numbers and diversity to fight humanity. The process was a cruel and sadistic act. Tearing and strength in’s the muscle of the first earth ponies. Attaching and grafting the flesh and bone to primitive wings of the Pegasus. Finally the dark twisting of spiritual and magical energy with a marrow focuser, imbedded into the skulls of the first Unicorns.

Disgusted by how there students mutilated there own kind. Humanity and the remaining tribes of ponydom demanded the Equininian empire. Cease their barbaric practices and not seek expansion.

The demands were mocked and the war began.

It raged for ten long years. As the equininian empire launched mass assaults to no avail against the static defense of man and her pony subjects. As the years pressed on and many ponies lost their lives, that mass desertion plagued the Alicorns war effort. Many went to the humans in the hope of ending the war.

Even if they were the demented creations of mankind’s students. Humanity opened their collective arms to the first pony races. Who quickly aided and turned the war against the Alicorns.

Seeing their doom coming, decided that if they cannot rule a grand pony empire. Then let there be no ponies left. They would have succeed, if not for the heroic actions of Sir Discor Silvorin. Who slain the high king and his sister wives before throwing himself into the magical torrent.

However as his body absorbed, ripped, and reformed. By the chaotic magics, the high king Temper Sol. Used the last of his soul and magic to curse his own people.

Those who were not taken and changed by the Alicorns. Who be turn into beings that required the magical essence of feeling to feed and survive. Their forms would be twisted and changed so that no pony would see them as family again.

For the ponies they created. Their treachery and cowardice to seek mankind’s aid. Was the act of fillies and whores. So he cursed his creations to slowly become weaker and weaker. To become more independent on magic, while their stallions became more and more mare-like and unable to produce. Any strong foals save from those despicable ones who they ran too in the first place.

Finally, his people the Alicorni. The first great pony race, shall not be allowed to remain. For no usurper shall take his crown and empire. He will not allow a single pure Alicorn, to claim HIS empire.

With this a great cataclysm shook equestria. Warping and changing all its denizens, while every pure Alicorn perished.
