Silverstream wakes up in an unusual room and realizes quickly that something is wrong. First, it's not her room in Mt. Aris or the school. Second, the door to the room has a huge number 5 on it. Third, she's wearing a bracelet with the number 5 on it. Fourth, the room is about to kill her.

Surviving is not just about escaping this room. It's about working with the other eight students to escape from this world made of nightmares. If they can't escape within nine hours, they will be trapped in this world for the rest of their lives. But one question sits on all of their minds.
