Chapter 1: Introductions and Memories.
Nothing. Suddenly, seconds later, every sense in my body had been flooded. I woke up in a strange room. There was a light above me and several flashing lights. Where was I? I looked at my coat. For some reason the deep silver of my coat was alien to me. I had known it my whole life, ever since I was a colt, yet somehow the blue mane on my neck and my metallic colored coat were the most foreign things in the universe.
"Subject has regained consciousness. Sedate him." I tried to open my muzzle but the calming numbness overtook my being and I slipped into the dream like state of unconsciousness. I had this way ever since I was a colt of being able to tell things about somepony just by hearing their voice. For instance when the mare tried to sedate me, before the drugs took effect, I had deduced her to be a Unicorn of most likely Canterlotian decent. She seemed intellegent and kind. The kind of pony you would want to be friends with.
I had slipped back into the conscious realm once again and this time the flashing lights had been replaced with the high rising, dull, and otherwise ugly skyscrapers of lower Fillydelphia. It had been 250 years since the return of Nightmare moon. At that time this would have been an urban haven of the sciences and arts. Now it's just a dreary sore on a once beautiful land.
Everywhere looked like this. From Appleoosa to Zebratown. Its all anyone can afford after Luna took over. The world economy went down the shitter when she replaced Celestia on the throne. From what they taught us in School, One hundred years ago, the spirit of chaos, Discord had broken from his prison once again and succeeded in throwing the land into chaos. The Bearers of the Elements had been missing for years now and their powers were one of the only things that could stop them. After a brief battle, He tried to land a fatal blow on Luna. Celestia took the hit and was dead. Luna in pure and righteous fury became Nightmare Moon and killed Discord in return.
After a short period of mourning, she took over, and like I said before everything went to hell. I called for an Archano-Tech taxi. I had a pounding headache and before I went on and tried to figure this shit out, I had to have a few drinks and some rest.
I woke the next morning feeling slightly hung over and much more rested. I looked around. This was it alright. My appartment on the third floor. I decided to flip on the news and see if that yielded any fruit as to what had happened yesterday. I saw a report of a scuffle on thirty first street. The street right outside my dead end job. I guess now is as good a time as any to introduce myself. My name is Blueback. I have lived an unremarkable life with unremarkable parents an unremarkable job and an unremarkable job. I was a bland boring office worker with nothing to look forward to in life except the same brutal, beating monotony. I work as an office worker in the first floor office in the Archano-Tech HQ. It was a dead end life and would have left me the same no achieving pony I was when I was a colt.
If I had known ahead of time, I would have just run and forgotten about the whole thing. Infact I should do it right now, but im a dumbass like that.
I decided to go and check it out. I knew the taxi driver well. He drove me to and from work each day. "Going in on a weekend huh?"
"Yah" I replied as deadpan as possible.
I had arrived at the office. I payed my taxi driver and wished him a merry Hearth's Warming Eve. I walked to the front desk to ask the secretary mare to alert my boss was coming up. I saw a mare come out of the elevator to the left. Not a bad looker if I do say so myself. She looked at me and suddenly a memory came to my head, like an iron re-branding a cattle.
It was of the same mare in the elevator. She was standing over me weeping. We were in some kind of meadow. The pain caused me to lose consciousness and when I awoke again, I was strapped to a chair. Well isn't this just fan-fucking-tastic.
A blue unicorn stepped out of the shadows and right next to the table in front of me. She spoke elequently and casually. From the way she sounded, she was not malicious, but just doing her job, but Celestia damnit she was going to get it done if it was the last thing she did. "What do you remember?", she asked with a grace and subtlety one can only describe as sexy.
I managed to stutter out the words "I don't understand."
"Hmm, charming. Rocco?"
A very deep and gruff grunt answered back.
"Make him talk."
With that I felt the butt of an Archano Tech rifle hit me in the back of my head. The blow almost knocked me unconscious, but I managed to hold on.
"Do be more gentle next time."
All that answered her was another grunt.
"Now I ask you again, what do you remember about Mission Zeta."
Not wanting to take another beating, I responded with, "Are you talking about that thing that I remembered after looking at the mare in the elevator?'
"Yes that seems to be the one. What did you remember?"
"I was in some kind of meadow, and she was weeping over me. That's all I remember I swear."
"That seems adequate", she said. She said it in such a way that my story didn't impact her decision at all.
"Can you please let me go, I have to get back to my appartment."
With a perfect delivery she said, "I'm sorry but I cant do that Blue."
And with another whip of the rifle I was out again.
