In an alternate universe, Equestria was in a conflict with another world, the other world was dying and in order to save it, the current ruler invaded Equestria.
The invasion was successful and Equestria is under the rule of the new empire, the ruler of the empire passed on soon afterwards.

Under the rule of the new king, the relationship between Equestria and the Draco were stabilised, Equestria carried on living how they were prior to the invasion.
The Draco's lived amongst them as they slowly rebuilt their families and homes, the king of the Draco's eventually passed his legacy down through the years as his predecessors continued the rule Equestria.

They weren't alone as they still had both Princesses Celestia and Luna to help them.

In time the current ruler had prepared a special gift for his sons eighteenth birthday, six to be precise.
