A thousand years of growth can have unexpected affects on a nation, and Equestria is no exception. Overpopulation has left its mark, and Princess Celestia can but watch as a surplus of goods erodes into a deficit. A tiny wound is opening with each passing year, and if something isn't done soon, poverty and starvation will be the new orders of the day. Thus, with a heavy heart for her dear little sister and batponies everywhere, the crown princess institutes a plan to shorten the night by four hours every day, in order to increase produce growth and productive hours for the many, whose needs, as the saying goes, outweigh those of the few.

Princess Luna doesn't take the news well, but respect for the crown and solidarity in the eyes of the populace demands she capitulate. The second princess of Equestria has not forgotten what happened the last time she defied her sister, and she would never allow the ugly head that reared itself that day to rise again.

The darkness, however, has other plans. A new nightmare looms.
