What's her name?
Chapter 1
Load Full StoryLightning painted at his canvas calmly, using his levitation ability to hold up the painting pallet and paint brush. He was painting a hill with a sunset behind it and a deep orange sky. It looked like it was just finished. Although the odd thing was that despite everything looking like a natural sunset on a hill, the sun, instead of being a yellow ball, was a giant muffin.
Humming, Lightning frowned, wondering who wanted this odd sight painted. Turning around he looked at his twin brother, Thunder who was reading a book at a near by table. Despite the two being twins, there was some clear differences. One thing was that, while their colour schemes were similar, Light blue, with blackish purple hair, Thunder’s was a shade darker. Another had to be was Lightning’s cutie mark was a paint pallet, while Thunder’s was a few music notes. But there most glaring differences had to be that Lightning was a unicorn pony and Thunder was a pegasus pony, and also, while Lightning's eyes were forest green, Thunder’s were blood red.
“Hey, Thunder?” Lightning called lowering his painting utensils. Thunder hummed and blinked, looking away from his book and to his brother. “Who wanted me to paint this, again?” He asked, nodding his head to the painting.
Thunder blinked and went back to his book. “Ditzy Doo.” He said simply, his eyes moving over the page as he read it. Lightning nodded and went back to painting before he blinked and turned back to his brother.
“Um… Who is that?” He asked in confusion. Thunder hummed again, sounding slightly exasperated, as his eyebrows lowered in annoyance.
“The grey pegasus, with the cross eyes.” He explained, turning his back to his brother, moving the book so he could keep reading it, not noticing his brother blink in confusion.
“Wait what?… I thought her name was Derpy Hooves...” Lightning said lowering his brows. Thunder blinked and turned back to him with an incredulous look on his face.
“What?… Where the heck did you hear that from? Her name is Ditzy Doo.” He exclaimed, putting his fore-hooves on the table.
Lightning blinked and then frowned. “No, I’m pretty sure it’s Derpy Hooves.” Lightning said putting his painting utensils down. Thunder frowned, got up from the table and walked over to Lightning.
“No, you dope. It’s Ditzy Doo.” Thunder said glaring at his twin. The latter glared right back and raised a hoof to push the former away.
“I’m not a dope and it’s Derpy Hooves!” He exclaimed, his voice raising a bit.
To any new pony to Ponyville it might seem odd how the two are getting rilled up on something so small like a pony’s name. But anypony who knew the twins knew that when the two had different ideas on something that was on an either right or wrong basis the Bolt twins tended to argue days on end until one was either proven right, or both were proven wrong.
“Okay...” Thunder started, raising a hoof to his face as he shook his head in annoyance. “Who told you that?” He questioned pointing his hoof at Lightning.
“Rainbow Dash.” Lightning stated in a ‘Matter-of-fact’ voice. “Where did you get the name ‘Ditzy Doo’ from?”
“You actually took Rainbow Dash’s… Okay look, first, stop believing everything Rainbow Dash’s tells you. Just because she’s saves the town a lot doesn't mean she’s honest a lot.” Thunder berated Lightning, doing everything in his power to not face palm. “Secondly, I got the name Ditzy Doo from a lot of pony’s, including Doctor Hooves.”
“What does Doctor Hooves have to do with Derpy’s name? He's a timekeeper, not a name keeper.” Lightning asked glaring hotly at Thunder. “By the way, I’ve heard tons of pony's call her Derpy Hooves!”
“That dosen’t mean anything!”
“Oh! But it means something when it works in your favour?!”
“YES!”
“Um… excuse me...”
The Bolt twins flinched and turned to the shop entrance (Or exit, from where they were standing) to see the grey pegasus they were just arguing over. “What… are you two talking about.” She asked as she lowered a brow.
The twins quickly bounced away from one another, trying to say that nothing was happening, but they were talking very fast and over one another making it sound like nonsensical rambling. The wall eyed pegasus blinked, raising a hoof to tell the duo to stop. “Actually, never mind. Uh… Lightning is my painting finished?”
Lightning blinked, and brought a hoof to his forehead. “Oh, right! You’re painting. Yes it’s finished, it just needs to--”
“Great!” The pegasus cut off Lightning as she rushed over to the painting and picked it up.
“Oh, no wait! It’s not--” Just before Lightning could warn her, she put the painting between her wing and body, holding it securely, being careful not to drop it. “...Dry… yet...” Lightning winced as he watched the still wet paint press against the pegasus grey fur. (Not that she seemed to mind.)
The duo watched as the pegasus walked back towards the still open exit humming happily. Thunder blinked and then quickly bolted over to the cross eyed pony and stepped in front of her, making her jump. “Hey! Quick question.”
“Okay, what is it?” She asked raising a brow in confusion.
“This is going to sound kind off awkward… but...” Thunder started shifting his weight from on set of hooves to the other. “what’s your name?” He asked smiling brightly. Lightning blinked and narrowed his eyes. “It’s Ditzy Doo, right?” Just as Thunder asked, Lightning appeared beside him making him yelp.
“No! It’s Derpy Hooves, right?” Lightning asked pushing his brother to the side. Thunder growled slightly and quickly bounced back trying to push his brother away.
“No, it’s Ditzy Doo, isn’t it?”
“But it’s Derpy Hooves, right?”
The twins stopped looking at the pony in question and returned to glaring at one another.
“Ditzy Doo!”
“Derpy Hooves!”
The two’s eyes widened in surprise when they heard the pony loudly exclaim, ‘MUFFINS!’ and nearly got blown off their hooves when the pony bolted out, the door slamming shut behind her.
The two blinked and stared at the closed door in shock.
“Her name is Muffins?” Thunder asked incredulously, his eyes the size of dinner plates. “So… we were both wrong...”
Lightning blinked and suddenly gained a guilty look. “Geez, did you hear her, she must’ve been really upset to scream her name that loudly at us...” He said feeling pretty bad. Thunder blinked and thought about it.
“Oh, yeah… you’re right.” He said, disregarding his last statement about the two of them being wrong about her name. “We did kind of just start fighting over her name right in front of her. I mean… she dosen’t really know us, does she?” Thunder continued his eyes trailing downward, Lightning’s soon following suit.
The two quickly made an agreement to aplogize to Muffins the next time they saw her.
However unknown to both of them. Muffins was actually talking about a group of children who she saw carrying a few muffins with them and was trying to get some.
