We don't hate them

The Changing are being to give up! I really looks like the war will end soon, we're all just waiting now. Finally after four years of conflict I will be going home soon. Though I am sorry to see the bugs go, they have been in my life for years now and I will slightly miss them. After all its not like we ponies truly hate the bugs, we're just doing our part in this war. We are just soldiers being payed to do what we are told, and we're told to shoot the enemy.

The changlings aren't really bad after all, hell there some of the best creatures I know. Ones I've seen captured in the past have picked up stretchers and cared our wounded without being asked! As strange as it sounds they don't hate use either. I've had many a conversation with captures bugs, and they all say the same thing as we do they're just doing they're bit. Well I'll write more when I have time I'm preparing for a Wireing party tonight.

It was announced that an armistice will be signed on the eleventh! Oh what news this is! After nearly four and a half years of fighting the wars going to end. I may have only received this new journal yesterday, but I've been in this war since it started.

I remember it well, when it begun we all laughed and thought we'd never see a Changling, but all that changed at Moins. We were attacked that morning and after hours of fighting, and my first wound, the army retreated. We've been in this horrid trench warfare ever since.

I've fought from Flanders Fields to the Somme, and now I'm on the out skirts of ponyville protecting the town from the invaders. Besides this the wireing Parry last night was fun. It was myself and 2 privates sent out with the wire, and it only took about 2 hours for use to finish. After that we made our way to the only visible trench, but as we came closer we realized that it wasn't our trench at all! No, but a Changling one, and as we started to turn back to our trench one of the basterds fired at use. One of the private i think his name was Dusty yelled in more shock then pain.
I asked the boy what was wrong, and he yelled he'd been shot in the ass! I laughed for a moment before telling the other boy to grab one of his webbing strap. I levitated the other strap with my horn and we drug him to a shell hole and looked him other.

We looked all over for a bullet wound and laughed when we found he only had barbed wire stuck to his rump. I levitate it off and laughed.

Eventually we did make to to our trench and all laughed at Dusty.

It dropped off cold last night, so cold that the barbed wire was coated in ice. It was strangely beautiful, yet it was disturbing knowing that so many ponies had fallen on that wire. As I had said yesterday I was party of a wireing party, well we shot and fired at a Changling party last night all but one of them were wounded or killed. These types of things happen all the time in the dark since besides voices we can't tell which trench is which. This causes small gun fights all the time, and most of them don't end well.

I've been in many of these parties and I have almost joined the fallen many times. Though I am grateful to have survived everything I have so far and can not wait to go home soon. I am also grateful to have come through mostly unscathed in this war except for a few wounds here and there. I can't say the same for others that I have known though, most of them are gone. I miss all of them and hope to see them again when I pass as an old colt.

Not much to report to-do as it has been quit here for a while. There was some artillery but when is there not artillery here or anywhere during this dam war. There isn't much rifle or machine gun fire anymore as neither side really want to fight anymore. So we just don't fight any longer as we see no since in it unless we have to.

I am so excited that the war is going to end soon, I want to go home at terribly bad. After all I have a sister I have never gotten to see that was born a year or so ago and I haven't been home since 1916. Not to mention my mother, father, brothers, and other sister that I miss so much. Only 3 more days and the fighting is over and we can end this senseless killing. It's all anypony talks about anymore, and how they all want to go home. We are all excited about it and can not wait for it.

It also began to rain to-day which was a mix of ice as well. It's quit cold, but this weather always reminds me of the Hearts warming eve of 1914. I remember that quit well since it was such a wonderful Hearts warming eve and the only one like it. Use ponies and changlings stopped fight the night before and where I was the truce lasted until New Years. We buried our dead, swapped gifts, and played a round of futbol in no ponies land.

I trade my hat with a Changling barber that had cut my mane. Oh what a Hearts warming eve that was, it had never happened again though. I will remember it for as long as I live.

I turned 20 to-day, my fourth birthday in the trench as well. I found it funny how close my birthday is to the armistice date and don't know if it's funny or not. Still all I can think about is going home, but me and a few other stallions have a plan we are going to do tomorrow night. We have decided to get some souvenirs from the changlings, and to get the wounded out of no ponies land. I will write later I need to clean my rifle now.
10th/November/1918

We are about to head over to the Changling trench they shouldn't fire since no creature had in over a day know so I am only taking a pistol I've had. Dusty had decided to go with us as well. He wants his self a helmet, and I a Luger pistol. I will write after the armistice tomorrow when the war is over we are finalizing our plan now.

To whom it may concern, I am sorry to have to write in this journal that Buckhorn (the owner of this journal) was shot at ten a.m on November the eleventh 1918. He was caught in no ponies land trying to save a wounded command and should be commemorated for it. He was a good stallion, and a dam good friend and will be missed. He was buried in Flanders fields at noon the eleventh of November 1918. We believe he is the last casualty of the Great War and may Celeatia bless him in the after life.

This story was made to remember the the 23 million casualties of The Great War from 1914-1918, and was inspired by the story of the last combat killed during the war just a few minutes before the armistice took affect at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month 1918.
