It has been an unmeasurable amount of time since the sun last rose in Equestria, so long that many of the plants and creatures of the land are sickly and ill. The moonlight barely sustains them and the few earth ponies brave enough to venture out into the endless night struggle to keep them alive for the food they provide, as little as it may be. Many believe the night will never end, just as Nightmare Moon promised. However, when she returned she had been defeated, their long lost princess returned. Now, it is clear and evident. Their princesses are lost once more and something has stopped them.

As Equestria suffers, the last Captain of the Guard rings an age old bell found in the crystal caves beneath the city. The bell rings...
