Chapter 5: Stranger

Princess Celestia allowed herself to stretch a little bit. It was still early in the day, and there were a lot of meetings and delegations on the list to do today. She pondered for a moment how her little student, Twilight, was doing. Two weeks back, she and her sister Luna received a letter from Twilight, explaining they found a wounded pony out in the middle of Everfree Forest. She also reported that though the pony appeared to be a full grown mare, she had no cutie mark to speak of, and was found next to two strange swords. Apparently, she just fell out of the sky. She also reported that they carried her to Ponyville hospital, for treatment and care. Celestia hadn't heard anything further about it. She did send her student a letter, requesting her to keep her updated on the situation and let her know when the mare awoke.

However, there was no need to worry about that now. She had other, more pressing matters to attend to. But first, breakfast...

She prepared breakfast for her and her sister as she usually did. Not long after Luna entered and took her seat. It wasn't uncommon of her to arrive tired after a long night, however this time Luna didn't look so much as tired as she did looking like there was something on her mind.

"Did you sleep well, my dear sister?" Celestia asked, putting a plate of pancakes in front of Luna with her magic. Luna stifled a yawn, but didn't say anything else. "Luna?"

Luna suddenly looked up, "Yes sister?" she asked before realizing what Celestia had asked earlier. "I am fine. You know how mornings are for me."

"You seem a bit different today, Luna. Is something on your mind?"

Luna took a bite of her pancakes before answering. "Well....Yes, actually. I assure you it's nothing dire or of the like, its just..."

"Yes?" Celestia urged.

"I was montering the dreams of the ponies like i do every night, when i came upon the dreams of this one mare. They were....different. Far different than anything i've ever seen."

"What do you mean? Different how?"

"The mare's dreams...they were almost static...creatures with no form, voices with no words, glimpses of monsters unseen. And an eerie calm that just permeated through everything...a-and-and instead of fear, like you would expect, the mare who was dreaming this felt.....nothing. And then she woke up before i could get any answers. It was....strange...."

Celestia frowned, not quite sure what to make of this information. "Do you believe there was any danger? Do you believe these dreams are trying to harm the mare or anything else?" she asked, putting down her fork.

Luna played with her food for a moment before answering, "No. Nothing like that...it was just so.....unnatural. I have never seen anything like it. Not in my own dreams or anypony else's for that matter. I just simply don't know what to make of it."

"Do you know who had the dream?"

"N-No....like i said, she awoke before i could get any answers. Perhaps i can find out, if she dreams again tonight."

"That may be for the best. But if you think there is no danger to be had here, then i think it may just be nothing more than just a strange dream," Celestia said in her usual soothing voice.

Luna sighed, "You may be right, sister. Still, my thoughts can't help but linger on how strange it all was."

And with that, they continued breakfast with not much else said. Celestia decided to focus on how she would present all of her talking points for the day, as well as how she would deal with some of the more bothersome nobles whom she had an audience with today. She had a schedule to keep, after all....

The meeting concerning the annual budget of the Hoovesdale Orphanage had just come to a close when a puff of green fire signaled the arrival of a letter from Twilight. Celestia welcomed the distraction, as this had been her sixth meeting this day, and still had four more planned along with several hearings from a few prominent nobles.

Luna approached out of curiosity. "A letter from Twilight, i presume? What does it say?"

Celestia read the letter before finally answering, "It seems the mare they rescued from the Everfree Forest finally awoke. And from what she says, it was a bit....chaotic."

"How so, sister?"

"When she first woke up, she freaked out and attacked the staff, but they managed to sedate her. When she awoke again, she was much calmer, and they were finally able to ask her a few questions. The mare is named Shiera An. And she seemed to believe she was dead. Twilight believes she might be from another world."

Luna frowned, "Now that is certainly odd. Was there anything else that they learned?"
Celestia shook her head and frowned. "No, as it seems she went into another panic attack, and they had to sedate her again. Also, it seems Twilight wants our help on this matter."

Luna's frown deepened, "I'm not sure what help we would be, but perhaps we can schedule a visit to see this Shiera An tomorrow?"

Celestia pondered it for a moment, "We'll have to move the hearing with Sergeant Starbreaker to next week, but yes, i think it can be done. I will go and write a letter, giving Twilight our response on the matter...."

Shiera's dreams were scattered as usual.

Voices and shadows around her ran and screamed, shouting words that had no meaning to her. There was nothing around her, and she felt that strange calm again. Off in the distance she could see a pair of the coldest eyes one could ever see, but she felt....nothing from it. The eyes also didn't seem to notice her, instead it seemed content to just watch the shadows...

It was only then, after she thought about it, that it wasn't actually calm that she was feeling. it was.....numbness....

What are these dreams? I don't understand.

That voice was back. Who is it? What do they want? Why are they here?

Be calm, i mean you no harm. I only wish to understand--

The Voice is a stranger. Does it know? It shouldn't know. It shouldn't see.

Wait, who are you? Why do dream as such?

Who am i?Who am I?Who am I? Sorrow.Sorrow.SorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrowSorrow.....Sorrow...

That is the word....

It was if a dam suddenly burst and in came the memories, a sea of loss and betrayal, an ocean of sorrow flooded everything and was everywhere.

Agh! Stop, please! Let me talk with y--

The voice has faded away.

I am Sorrow.

That is my word.

I am Sorrow, and my name is Shiera An.

Author's Note

So, yeah, Shiera has some pretty freaky dreams, huh?

I'm tempted to give a hint here, as to what is going on, but i fear that it may be spoilers, so i won't for now.
