Chapter 52

– Blood Ties –

Comet looked up at the older mare in horror, “My mother?”

Starlight immediately glared and put herself between Comet and Pearl, “What are you doing here?”

Pearl simply glanced at her, “It is Mother’s Day. Can a mother not visit her child at school?”

“She isn’t your child!” Starlight yelled, stomping to emphasize.

“Au contraire Miss Glimmer, she very much is. I gave birth to her, she came from my womb. So I believe that dictates me as her mother.” Pearl said.

“She may have come from you, but she is nothing like you! Now why are you here?” Starlight glared hotly.

Princess Twilight stepped in, “I agree. I was under the impression you were not to be anywhere near Comet or her family.”

As soon as she said those words, a figure descended from above and landed with so much force, dust flew up and caused most ponies there to cough. When the dust cleared, Tala stood between Pearl and the rest of the group. Her wings were unfurled and she had a death glare on her face that would make a hydra cringe in fear.

“What in Tartarus are you doing here!?” Tala screamed.

“Ah, Tala. Such a displeasure to see you again.” Pearl said, dusting herself off.

“Cut the crap you witch! We had a contract!” Tala screeched.

“Yes, about that contract, do be a good birdie and fetch Trail Blazer. We have much to discuss.” Pearl said, waving her hoof in a shooing motion.

“You aren’t getting anywhere near my brother, or my niece! You get the heck out of this town now!” Tala screamed, digging her claws into the ground.

“I think not. Justice, if you please.” Pearl said, gesturing to her lawyer.

The stallion, Immoral Justice, stepped forward and took out a document, “This document is a lawsuit by Miss Pearl to terminate the contract under the pretenses of coercion and robbing Miss Pearl of her parental rights to her child for the past 16 years.”

“WHAT!?” All mares in the vicinity yelled out.

“Coercion? Robbing her rights? You wrote the contract! She gave up her right willingly, her name isn’t even on Comet’s birth certificate, so legally she isn’t even Comet’s mother.” Tala said.

Princess Twilight stepped forward and read the document, “You expect any judge to look at this and take your side? We all heard the story, we know what she has done. Once a judge hears that story, they will throw this case right out of the courtroom.”

“It is my client’s right to fight for her child is it not, Princess?” Justice said calmly.

“While it may be her right, it is vile and immoral. And why now? Why wait all this time to try this stunt?” Tala said.

“That is none of your concern, Griffin. Now, are you fetching Trail or do I have to find him myself?” Pearl said.

“Trail Blazer! You shouldn’t even have the right to say his name!” Starlight said, pushing past Tala to get right in Pearl’s face.

“Oh, so protective. I’ve heard of your little relationship with Trail. Adorable really.” Pearl said.

“You certainly haven’t changed. Still as vile as ever.” Twilight Velvet stepped in.

“Ah Velvet, I didn’t see you there. I would say it’s good to see you, but it’s not.” Pearl said, sounding bored.

“I wasn’t even aware you had a daughter, Pearl. And certainly not one that wasn’t from your late husband. This would create quite the scandal in Canterlot. I’m surprised you would risk what little reputation you have left.” Velvet said, sneering at the mare.

Pearl’s eyebrow twitched at that, “Like I need advice on reputation from you of all ponies. Sure your son married into royalty, but your nobility is hardly worth mentioning. And your daughter may be an Alicorn now, but we all know none of that talent came from you.”

Twilight Velvet’s face grew red with rage at the comments Pearl was spitting at her.

Princess Twilight stepped in, “Miss Pearl, as Princess of Friendship, this town is my domain. I will not have you speak to my mother that way. And lawsuit or not, you are not allowed within 500 feet of Comet or Trail. I order you to leave my school and Ponyville, and if you refuse this order, I will have you escorted out.”

Pearl scoffed at the Princess, “I will do no such thing Princess. I have come for my daughter, and I am not leaving without her. Unless you want a lawsuit against you and your school, I suggest you fetch Trail Blazer so we can discuss my terms.”

Princess Twilight’s eyes burned hot white and her horn lit up, making everyone around her jump, “Now you listen to me, Pampered Pearl. I am the Princess of Friendship. I rule this area, and I will not be ordered around by a spoiled Canterlot noble who thinks she is above royalty. Rainbow Dash! Applejack!”

Rainbow Dash and Applejack appeared in moments.

“We heard everything, the whole courtyard can hear what’s going on. Y’all ruined the festival.” Applejack said.

“So what do you want us to do with ‘em Twi?” Rainbow asked.

“Escort Pampered Pearl and Immoral Justice out of my school and out of Ponyville. If they resist, I am granting you two the power to place them under arrest.” Princess Twilight commanded.

“Sounds good to me. You heard the Princess, move it ya varmints!” Applejack said, glaring at the two.

Pearl scoffed, “Do you truly think this wise, Princess? Didn’t you learn your lesson with Rhinestone? He has nothing on what I could do to your precious school.”

Princess Twilight stepped forward, pushing past all to get right in Pearl’s face, wings outstretched, “I am through playing games with you nobles. I am an alicorn, I am a Princess of Equestria, if you will not respect my position, then we have nothing to discuss.”

The Princess turned away, giving Rainbow and Applejack a nod, both ponies moving in.

“You heard the Princess, get moving. Either out of town, or to our newly constructed dungeon.” Rainbow smirked.

“Or if y’all prefer, we can take straight ya to Tartarus where ya belong.” Applejack stated.

As Applejack went to grab Pearl to force her out of the school, the unicorn shoved at her, “Keep your filthy country hooves off me!”

“Do you really think it’s ok to go to the school now? I wanted to give Comet and Starlight quality time together.” Trail said, walking up to the school entrance.

“Brother, you must stop worrying so much. Would it not be adorable to see Comet and Starlight in the games, as mother and daughter?” Zala smiled.

“Yes, yes it would. Did you get the camera?” Trail asked.

“Yes I did brother. We shall capture the moment. And add it to the family album. We might need to get a bigger book for it.” Zala chuckled, patting the camera in her saddlebags.

Trail and Zala walked through the doors and made their way to the school’s courtyard where the Mother’s Day festivities were being held. But as they approached, they could hear ponies yelling at each other.

“I command you to leave my school. I will forcibly teleport you out of Ponyville if that’s what it takes.” Princess Twilight shouted.

Trail and Zala looked at each other in confusion, who could have angered the Princess to make her threaten someone like that?

“And that would be the nice way. I’d rather toss you on your noble rump out in the Froggybottom Bog!” Tala screeched.

Why was Tala threatening someone? She knew better than that.

Trail and Zala reached the entrance of the courtyard and saw a group of ponies in a circle around whatever conflict the Princess was in. Trail pushed past ponies and the moment Comet saw him, she immediately ran to hug his leg.

“Daddy!” Comet wailed.

“Sweetheart, what’s wrong?” Trail said, leaning down to hold his filly.

“Ah, Trail. There you are.” A voice called out.

That voice, one that Trail had so many nightmares about. It made his blood cold, the chill went up his spine as he raised his head to look at the source. There stood the mare that made his life miserable in Canterlot.

“Pearl…” Trail said, his voice fearful.

“You saved us the trouble of tracking you down. Thank you.” Pearl said, her smile looked wicked.

Trail immediately picked up Comet and held her close, “What are you doing here? We had a deal!”

“That deal is off, this lawsuit will see to that. And now that you are here, we can make it official. I, Pampered Pearl of Canterlot, hereby accuse you Trail Blazer of forcing me to give up my daughter. I will see you in the courts of Canterlot to right this wrong and return my child to her proper place among her heritage.” Pearl explained.

“You truly think any judge will hear this dribble? You are a foul conniving witch.” Zala spat at her, standing next to Trail.

“We shall see. Now that that’s done, I shall return to Canterlot and get this country stink off of me. Do not worry Comet, you won’t have to live in the mud anymore. Mommy will bring you home soon. Tata.” Pearl said, gesturing for Immoral Justice to follow her.

Both ponies left the courtyard, leaving everyone feeling uneasy.

“Rainbow, follow them. Make sure they leave.” Princess Twilight said.

“Gotcha Twilight.” Rainbow said, taking off into the air.

“Applejack, get with Fluttershy and inform the children and the mothers that the rest of the festivities will continue without me.”

“Roger that, Twi.” Applejack said, walking off to find Fluttershy.

“Mom, I’m sorry but could you go find Spike? He should be at the castle.”

“Of course sweetie. Deep breaths.” Twilight Velvet said, nuzzling her daughter before running off.

The Princess sighed and tried to regain her composure.

“She can’t really do this, can she?” Trail asked.

“I saw the lawsuit, it’s legit. Don’t worry, I’m going to contact Celestia and Luna about this. This has gone far enough, I am not letting another noble bully my friends around.” Princess Twilight said.

Trail tried to calm down, but his heart was still racing with panic. He then felt Comet tremble in his hooves.

“Daddy, I don’t wanna go with her. She’s not my Mom.” Comet cried.

Starlight heard this and immediately joined them in the hug, “No Comet, no she is not. Mommy is here. Daddy is here. We won’t let her near you again.”

“Starlight.” Trail said, looking at the mare with tears in his eyes.

Starlight gave Trail a kiss and held both of them close. The day was ruined and no pony felt like continuing the games.

“That was Comet’s birth mom huh?” Smoulder said, leaning against a pillar.

Comet’s friends tried to go to their friend but Trail and Starlight had taken her home. She was too upset to see anyone.

“Guess so. She certainly was as nasty as we heard about.” Ocellus said.

“Yona want to smash stupid rich pony for making Comet cry!” Yona stomped.

“I think we all want a go at her Yona. But that’s not how it works unfortunately.” Sandbar said.

“Do you really think this lawsuit can let her take Comet away with her?” Silverstream asked.

“Who knows? Pony law is stupid. If this was Griffinstone, that prissy unicorn would be walking back to Canterlot in a full body cast.” Gallus said.

“Well, all we can do is try to be there for Comet. Maybe not today, but tomorrow we need to go see her. She needs us now more than ever.” Ocellus said.

“Right!” All of the friends shouted.

As Pampered Pearl pushed the doors of her home open with magic, her attendees immediately stripped the dress off of her and dressed her in a robe.

“Justice, I trust you will ensure that this lawsuit will stick?” Pearl asked, laying on a couch a few feet away.

“Of course Ma’am. I never lose a case, you of all ponies should know that.” Immoral Justice smirked.

“Excellent. Now all I need to do is wait, and everything will be perfect.” Pearl said, clacking her hooves together.

Two stallions appeared with a bottle of wine and a glass, Pearl taking the glass as one stallion poured her a drink and the other fanned her with a large fan.

“Who would have guessed that little brat of mine would ever come in handy one day? Nevermind become a hero of Equestria. She once held all the magic in the world. She is my ticket back into society’s good graces.” Pearl said.

“Yes, she is the key out of your little predicament.” Justice snickered.

“What was that, Justice?” Pearl asked, glaring his direction.

“Oh nothing Miss. I have some motions to file. Tomorrow for tea time?” Justice asked.

“Yes yes, go. Molly!” Pearl said, ringing a bell.

A young unicorn mare appeared next to her, “Yes Milady?”

“Draw my bath, that filthy apple farmer sullied me and that brutish overgrown turkey covered me in dust.” Pearl commanded, finishing her wine.

“Of course Milady.” Molly said, teleporting away.

As the stallion poured another glass, Pearl looked at the glass and swished the contents, “You’ll finally be useful, Comet my dear. Mommy will be so happy for your help.”
