Chapter 55

– Celebration –

Twilight’s Castle was packed with friends and family, party decorations covered the crystal walls, with a giant banner which read “Congratulations Trail and Family”. Pinkie had gotten all of this together in one day, with a gigantic cake that almost reached the ceiling in the throne room. How did she even get it inside the room?

Trail looked around, seeing all the party games, like pin the wings on a parasprite, limbo, she even got a small tennis court in here. What kind of powers does Pinkie have?

“I know what you’re thinking Trail, try not to think too hard about it. Pinkie is Pinkie, no explanation required.” Starlight said, walking up next to him.

“Hey, I try to make sense of dangerous environments filled with strange creatures and plant life, maybe one day I will solve the mystery that is Pinkie.” Trail said, nuzzling the mare.

“You’d be the first in history. Enjoying the party? Pinkie says we can cut the cake as soon as your Mom gets here.” Starlight said.

“I’m really grateful Princess Twilight was willing to fly her out here.”

“Hey, Twilight would do anything for a friend. Plus your Mom should be here to celebrate this. Pearl is gone forever. I heard she and the other two are never getting out.” Starlight said.

“Thank Celestia. Literally. Where’s Comet anyway?” Trail asked.

“Over there with her friends. Last I saw they were playing red light green light. Silverstream is really good at it apparently.” Starlight said, pointing to the other side of the room.

“Why don’t you check on them? I gotta check on something.” Trail said.

“Ok. See you later.” Starlight said, pecking him on the cheek.

Trail blushed and as Starlight walked away, he turned and took off his hat. As he did, a small box fell from it. Trail looked at the little box with a nervous expression.

“Whatcha got there bro?” Tala said, sneaking up on him.

Trail jumped and immediately hid the box in his hat, “Nothing!”

“Hey, I saw that. What is it?” Tala said, trying to grab his hat.

“Cut it out, Sis!” Trail said, holding his hat down with his hooves.

“You are hiding something, cough it up.” Tala said, flying in the air to pull at the hat.

“Get lost you overgrown buzzard!” Trail said, swatting at the griffin.

“Red light!” Ocellus shouted.

Comet and her friends froze on the spot. Comet was left with her right hoof forward, holding the position. Sandbar almost lost his balance and was currently struggling to stand on just one side. Yona had been eliminated last round when she tripped over herself, and Smoulder was stuck in a running pose. Silverstream had apparently decided to do this game doing a handstand on her front legs. How the blood didn’t rush to her head and make her pass out, no one could figure out.
Gallus pulled a muscle on the second round and stood on the side lines.

“Nice balance Silver. Keep it up!” Gallus cheered.

“Sandbar stay strong!” Yona cheered.

Starlight walked up next to the two and sat down, “How’s the game going?”

Gallus and Yona looked at the counselor. Gallus spoke up, “Silverstream is currently in the lead. Comet is right behind her though. Sandbar and Smoulder are tied for third.”

“Sounds like it’s pretty close. You got this sweetie!” Starlight said proudly.

Comet would have given her a wave if she could move.

“Green light!” Ocellus shouted.

Comet and Silverstream ran for the finish line, Comet pulled ahead just a little but Silverstream bolted forward and crossed right when Ocellus was about to call red light.

“I win!” Silverstream cheered as she bounced up and down.

Gallus immediately flew over and hugged her, “You were awesome, Silver!”

Silverstream hugged back and when Gallus had realized what he had done, he immediately pulled away blushing like crazy, “Uh, yeah. Really great game Silver.”

Silverstream pouted a little but smiled again after a few seconds.

“Silver, how are you so good at this!?” Comet shouted.

“It’s super simple. Just don’t move. We got lots of practice hiding from the Storm King.” Silverstream said plainly.

Comet grumbled but relented and gave Silverstream a hoof/claw bump, then she turned her attention to Starlight.

“Hi Mom, enjoying the party?”

“Sure am. Pinkie really outdid herself.” Starlight said.

“Never underestimate Professor Pinkie. We all learned that pretty quick when we came to the school.” Ocellus said.

“Yeah, I learned that pretty quick after meeting her. Pinkie is Pinkie. And we wouldn’t want her any different.” Starlight said.

“So, is Nana here yet?” Comet asked.

“Not yet. But I’m sure she’ll be here soon.” Starlight said.

Right on cue, the door to the throne room opened and rolling in with Princess Twilight was Valley Trail.

“Nana!” Comet yelled, running right for her grandmare.

Valley caught the filly missile and held her close, “Hi sweetheart! Oooh, you’ve gotten so big!”

Comet giggled and remembered something, making her jump off her nana’s lap, “Nana, look look!”

Comet turned to show Valley her new cutiemark. Valley gasped, “My little filly got her cutiemark! Oh Comet, I’m so proud of you. It’s magnificent.”

“I did! Isn’t it the coolest?” Comet said, giving her nana a twirl.

“The coolest ever. Come here you!” Valley said, picking the filly up again to smother her with kisses.

“Hi Valley.” Starlight said, making her way to them.

“Starlight! How are you, my dear? I heard about what happened. All of that must have been awful.” Valley said, moving to hold Starlight’s face in her hooves.

Starlight’s face was being squashed by the older mare’s hooves but she managed to pull back, “Being held in a bubble with all the magic draining from the world was pretty rough. Though the trial with Pampered Pearl wasn’t all that much better.”

“That foul wretch. I never got a chance to give her a piece of my mind. I wish you would have brought me for the trial. I would have clocked that witch’s noggin.” Valley said, her eyes filled with rage.

“Calm down, Nana. She’s in prison now, we’ll never have to deal with her again.” Comet patted her nana’s shoulder.

Valley took a deep breath, “You’re right dear. We are here to celebrate. Now where are those children of mine?”

“Trail went to do something, Tala is probably lurking at the snack bar, and I actually lost track of Zala.” Starlight said, looking around for Zala.

“What are you talking about? Auntie Zala is right behind you, Mom.” Comet pointed out.

“Boo.” Zala said softly in Starlight’s ear, making the unicorn jump.

Zala laughed, as did Comet. Zecora shook her head, “Forgive me Starlight, I tried to stop her, but her prank I could not defer.”

Zala continued to laugh until she heard a mare clear her throat, she finally noticed Valley, “Oh Mother, I did not see you there. How joyous that you made it.”

Valley grabbed the zebra’s ear with magic, “I expect better from you Zala.”

Zecora giggled with Starlight, amused at Zala’s predicament.

“I didn’t expect it from Zala either. What got into her?” Starlight asked Zecora.

“Tala made a bet with her you see, to scare you till you jumped. Though why she agreed has even me stumped.” Zecora said.

“Seems even Zala isn’t immune to sibling rivalry. Don’t worry, I’ll get her back. Can I count on you?” Starlight smirked at Zecora.

“Sisters we have become, she shall know not where it came from.” Zecora smirked with her.

After Valley finished scolding her daughter, she turned back to Starlight, “Now what about the other two?”

All of them looked around and eventually saw a crowd forming on the other side of the room.

“What in Celestia’s name is going on over there?” Valley asked.

Comet, Valley, Starlight, Zala, and Zecora all made their way over to the crowd. All of Comet’s friends were already over there, plus Princess Twilight and all of the other teachers. In the middle of the crowd and the cause of all the commotion was Trail and Tala, with the griffin holding her brother in a headlock while Trail held his hat against his chest protectively.

“Trail, what is going on here!?” Starlight asked, moving into the center of the crowd.

“Cough up the secret bro and I’ll let go” Tala said to Trail.

“Go get plucked.” Trail wheezed out.

Starlight groaned, they didn’t even hear her. She moved next to them and yelled, “KNOCK IT OFF!”

Tala flinched, alonging Trail to escape the headlock, immediately bumping into Starlight and landing on top of her. Tala recovered and saw where Trail ended up.

“Hey bro, that’s not being a good example for the kids.” Tala snarked.

Trail blushed and got up off Starlight, shooting a glare at the griffin. But before he could say anything, he looked behind Tala and his face grew pale.

Tala saw his face, “What’s your problem?”

A mare cleared her throat behind Tala, making the griffin tense up, her feathers turning white. Her eyes filled with fear as she slowly turned her head around, a chill running up her spine as she stared into the scariest eyes she had ever seen in her life.

“Hi…Mom.” Tala said, trying to smile.

Valley pushed past the griffin, grabbing her ear with her magic, leading her towards Trail, who also had his ear grabbed with magic. Both siblings sat on either side of Valley, both with fearful looks on their faces.

“Now, both of you explain to me why you are interrupting such a joyous occasion with one of your ridiculous fights. And believe me, there had better be a good reason.” Valley said sternly.

“Trail has something hidden in his hat. I just wanted to see it.” Tala said.

Trail immediately panicked and hid his hat behind him, “I don’t have anything.”
Starlight groaned and rolled her eyes, “Come on Trail. Really, what could it be that would make you go to this extreme?”

Starlight had walked over to him and took his hat from behind him. When she shook the hat, a tiny box fell into her hoof. Starlight raised an eyebrow while the rest of the mares in the room gasped.

Starlight heard their gasps and looked around the room, “What?”

Trail tried to take the box away but too late, Starlight had opened it and inside was a ring, the gem in the middle was the same color as her eyes. It sat there in the box, glowing like a star in the night sky.

Starlight’s heart stopped beating for a second as the shock took her. She knew what this was. She looked at Trail who had a very nervous look as he scratched the back of his head with a foreleg.

“This isn’t what I really had planned for this, but the cat's out of the bag. So I guess I’ll just go for it.” Trail said.

He got down on his knees and held Starlight’s hoof, “Starlight Glimmer, will you marry me?”

The whole room gasped once more, then silence fell over the room. Starlight could hear her own heartbeat in her ears as the question played in her head over and over again. She was so stunned, she didn’t respond for several seconds. But as reality set in at last, her eyes teared up immediately and she couldn’t help but tackle him onto the floor.

“YES! YES, A MILLION TIMES, YEEEEES!” Starlight cried out.

The crowd around them burst into cheers and whistles as the two laid there, Starlight kissing her stallion with all the love and passion she could muster. When they separated, Trail pulled the ring out, revealing the rope it was connected to, and wrapped it around Starlight’s neck like a necklace. Starlight put a hoof to the ring and buried herself in Trail’s chest crying tears of joy.

Tala was actually crying a little, “You did good, bro.”

A bat from the pinata game soon found its way to the back of her head, giving her a hard whack.

“Ow! What was that for?” Tala asked, turning to see who hit her.

Trixie stood behind the griffin, a broken bat next to her floating in her magic, “You nearly ruined the perfect moment. Trixie saw it coming a mile away.”

Zala, Tala, Zecora and Valley all turned to her, saying in unison, “You knew!?”

“Of course, where do you think he got the gemstone for the ring? Trixie, with the help of Maud Pie, found it for him before she returned for Mother’s Day. Where do you think Trixie was during that Tourmaline disaster?” Trixie said.

Maud appeared out of nowhere and said, “It’s a very rare star sapphire, very hard to find. But Boulder found it in only a few days.”

She held up Boulder in her hoof, “Boulder is very proud.”

“So you knew about this for that long? Why didn’t you tell us?” Zala asked.

“Trixie was sworn to secrecy. Well, Trail did not tell Trixie why he wanted the gemstone, but Trixie used her brilliant skills of deduction to conclude that Trail was planning to propose at some point.” Trixie stated.

“But why did he trust you?” Tala asked.

“Because Trixie wanted what was best for her best friend. Plus Trixie felt bad that she was not there to help against Chrysalis and her wicked trick.” Trixie said.

She then turned her head slightly and spoke, “Plus Trail helped pay some of Trixie’s debt.”

Maud also chimed in, pointing at Zala and Tala, “Plus Trail said you two were not great at keeping secrets.”

Trail and Starlight hadn’t separated one inch for several minutes, just laying there on the floor holding each other. Soon, it became a bit too noisy as everyone was mad at Trixie for keeping such a secret. Starlight teleported them to the balcony of the throne room and laid amongst the stars, looking up at Luna’s night sky and the stars that shone in it.

“I never really thought this day would come.” Starlight said.

“That’s my line. I never thought I could ever marry after what happened.” Trail said, his voice going soft.

Starlight nuzzled him, “None of that. She’s gone forever. Now, we both can look to the future, our future together.”

“You know, I heard you talking to yourself the other night about Twilight wanting you to take over the school one day.” Trail said.

Starlight’s eyes widened, “You heard that?”

“I did. And I think you’d make a great headmare.” Trail smiled.

“I don’t know, I still have a lot to learn.” Starlight said.

“But”, she held Trail’s hoof, “Now I’ll have a loving husband to help me when I stress myself out.”

“Always my dear. And I’ll have a lovely wife to come home to after a long day of frolicking through the dangerous Everfree.” Trail said.

Both laughed at each other’s plights and rested their heads against each other.

“I love you Starlight.” Trail said softly.

“I love you too Trail.” Starlight said softly as well.

Comet looked at her parents resting against one another from the door. She couldn’t be happier for them. They were getting married. It would be official. Starlight would be her real Mother. And Comet could finally see her father happy with the mare of his dreams.

“I love you both.” Comet said softly.

She left to join the others, eager to help Pinkie start planning the best wedding Equestria has ever seen. 100X better than the Wedding of Princess Cadance and Shining Armor.

“I call dibs on being the flower girl!” Comet shouted as she ran towards the crowd.
