Epilogue

Five years later..

Comet fidgeted with her new uniform. An elegant cape laid across her back, dazzled in stars and runes. Partially designed by Aunt Trixie, with approval by the Princess. Tonight was her big night, all her efforts had been building up to this moment.

A knock on the door made Comet jump, making her realize that she spaced out again. She opened the door with her magic and found Ocellus on the other side.

“Ocellus, is everything almost ready?” Comet asked.

“Yep, everyone is gathered in the throne room. Princess Twilight is eagerly awaiting her new official Magus.” Ocellus smiled at her.

“Come on, it’s not that big a deal. Especially coming from the official Ambassador for the Changeling Kingdom.” Comet said, giving her friend a playful bump.

“Oh yes, no it’s not a big deal that you have become the youngest pony to ever achieve the title of Magus in over a thousand years. No big deal that you are one step closer to realizing your dream of being Archmage of Equestria.” Ocellus joked dramatically.

“Oh no, it’s totally not a big deal. It’s like you are making your parents the most proud ponies in all of Equestria.” An older voice said from the doorway.

In the doorway stood Trail Blazer and Starlight Glimmer, both giving Comet a smug grin as they walked in.

“Hey Mom, Hey Dad. What do you think of my new outfit?” Comet asked, giving a dramatic twirl.

“It’s very you sweetie. I’m sure Trixie had something to do with it.” Starlight said, chuckling.

“Sissy!” A younger voice said.

Comet soon found her leg was latched onto by a tiny giggling filly. Comet picked up the filly and held her up high, making her giggle some more. This filly had Trail’s purple coat but Starlight’s mane color. Her mane was similar to Starlight’s but had a little braid in the front instead of Starlight’s bangs. Her eyes were the same color as Starlight’s.

“Hi Starry Trail! Did you come to see your big sister on her big day?” Comet asked her little sister.

“Yeah yeah yeah!” Starry said.

Comet hugged the filly tightly, she was so cute. She loved being a big sister. Starry was so much fun. She adored Comet and Comet adored her.

Trail and Starlight were suddenly pushed aside as a griffin came into room, “One side bro. Favorite auntie coming through.”

“Auntie Tala!” Comet exclaimed as Tala pulled her and Starry into a hug.

Starry cuddled into the griffin's chest fur, loving the feeling as always.

“Ready to wow the world with your awesome magic kiddo?” Tala said, holding Starry for Comet.

“I’m so ready.” Comet said confidently.

“Your confidence is much improved, no doubt all in attendance will approve.” Zecora said as she rounded the corner.

“Yes, she certainly has grown up from that little filly I cared for.” Zala said, falling slightly behind.

“Auntie Zala, you didn’t have to come. You shouldn’t be moving too much.” Comet said, moving worriedly to her aunt’s side.

“Nonsense. Nothing could keep me from seeing my niece achieve such a marvelous title.” Zala said, her belly hanging low.

“Am I the only one here to think that pregnancy has only made her more stubborn?” Tala joked.

Everyone except Zala hummed in unison and answered, “No.”

They all laughed.

Zala gave them all a deadpan look, “Very amusing.”

“Well, come on kiddo. The kingdom is waiting to meet their new Magus.” Trail said.

Everyone walked out of the room, Starry taking her usual spot on Comet’s back. She was very careful not to ruin her new cloak.

Princess Twilight stood up from the throne, “My loyal subjects, today is a joyous day for Equestria. For I have chosen the pony who will represent not only authority on magic, but also will be a beacon for all magic users to do their best and be the best they can be.”

Twilight reached her hoof out, signaling Comet to climb the stairs in front of her. Comet stood in front of the Princess of Friendship, now sole ruler of Equestria, with pride and joy.

“Those in Equestria have heard your name before, Comet Trail. Daughter of Trail Blazer, Equestria’s Finest Explorer, and my personal pupil Starlight Glimmer. You were a key factor in the Crisis created by Tourmaline Rhinestone. With your determination and your friends, you saved not only the school but all of the magic in Equestria. Instead of keeping the power for yourself, you returned it to Equestria. This showed your righteous heart to all the world.”

“Then just a year after that, you helped me and my friends fight against the likes of not just Tourmaline, but Queen Chrysalis and Lord Tirek when all three escaped from Tartarus. You and your friends rallied not just pony kind, but all races together to fight off the windigoes and the villains.”

“Now Tourmaline, Chrysalis and Tirek sit in the Castle Garden, forever trapped in stone. And since then, you have continued to prove your magical prowess. Because of your determination, skill, and courage in the face of danger. I, Princess Twilight Sparkle, hereby name you, Comet Trail, my royal Magus!”

The crowd in the throne room roared, the applause was deafening as Twilight placed a brooch with her cutiemark engraved in it on Comet’s cloak.

“I swear to use my knowledge and skill for all of Equestria and our allies!” Comet declared.

The cheers grew louder as Comet’s friends all stormed up the stairs and tackled her to the ground. They all laughed as they lay on top of each other, having the time of their lives. Comet’s little sister bounced on top of the pile, declaring herself as Queen of the Pony Pile. Comet tickled her into submission.

Trail, Starlight, Zala, Tala, Zecora and Valley Trail all looked at Comet with proud eyes. She had truly become an outstanding mare.

Equestria was in good hooves with the new generation. What could be ahead of our group of ponies? Only the future will know.

In the Distant Future…

Sunny Starscout carefully put the book back on her father’s old shelf. Her father had uncovered that book after long years of research. Comet Trail, that name had been lost to time, but Sunny was determined to learn as much about her as she could.

“Sunny, Zipp’s back with the pizza.” Izzy said, poking her head in on Sunny’s reading.
“Oh right, sorry Izzy. I’m coming.” Sunny said, running towards the door.

The journal sat on the bookshelf, Comet’s cutiemark faintly visible on the worn cover.
