History Repeats / History Darkens
It was almost endearing that the guards thought they were succeeding at their job of restraining her.
Twilight could paint a picture with the colors that swam in the veins of each of the guardponies hastily throwing shackles about and clicking them together against her body. Blasting them all to pieces would be easy- and simply teleporting away would be even easier, but she chose not to escape or slaughter all those who thought they could possibly contain her. She chose this with a glimmer of amusement glinting in her eyes- anything to beat the boredom was good enough for her and this would certainly push boredom aside for at least a small while. Twilight did not flinch as she was shocked with a unicorn guard's horn in an attempt to get her moving. She swirled her head around to look at him with a soft grin plastered on her muzzle.
"Just ask." She said, her voice bordering on monotone. "I'll move if you say please." Her mouth shifted to offer a horrible grin, and the guard pinned his ears back in alarm. He opened his mouth to stammer a response, but found quickly that fear had blocked his throat up and kept him silent. Twilight chuckled and rolled her eyes as she started to move the direction she was expected to. "This will be very interesting. I do wish I had something to write with- to catalogue this experience and use it for future experiments of this kind."
"Is what they said about you true?" A new voice had spoken, and it caught the Princess entirely off guard. She glanced at where it had come from to see a young, probably new guardpony staring at her with fearful wonder. Another guard nudged him hard, almost knocking him to the floor.
"No, let him talk. Is what true? Be more specific if you intend to do research, young foal." Twilight replied harshly, shooting a darkened eye at the other guard, who did not dare shove a second time.
"Is it tr-true that yo-you...." The younger pony stammered, suddenly more apprehensive over curious. "Is it true that you ki... killed the Prince of the crystal kingdom." Twilight wasn't too surprised, but it still caused her ear to twitch and her eyes to flicker with a touch of what might be confused as guilt. It wasn't guilt- just a certain kind of sorrow that might be more befitting of a bad day than of a slaughtering.
"Oh, it's true." She replied matter-of-factly. "I bet it might interest you to learn that he was my own brother, too." She had to stifle a laugh as the young pony recoiled in shock and let his eyes widen in horror.
"You killed your own brother??" He asked incredulously, taking two hoofsteps back in cautious fear. "Wuh- Why would you do that?"
"A lot of reasons." Twilight answered casually. "Justice, mostly. He stopped having time for me- ME, his own sister! And after the Pinkie Pie incident I wasn't allowed to see my niece anymore. That just wasn't fair at all! Besides, I had wanted to experiment with crime a few times... he was kind of the perfect candidate. Besides, Shining wasn't exactly the brightest stallion- it was beyond easy to lure him in all the right places."
"Enough!" One of the guards- one that pretended he wasn't afraid of Twilight- spoke up over her rambling and gestured to an open door. Twilight regarded him with little interest as she stepped past into the room, her shackles being set free only long enough for them to slam the door on her.
The room was small and cold, four towering walls of pure smooth grey surrounding her on every side. She tried her hooves on the door and realized it was locked as she had expected. This was fun! Interesting and new- and a great way to have a chat with someone she hadn't seen in person in a long time very soon. She thought about all the ways she could break from here- teleportation always the most viable. Even if there was a spell in this room prohibiting magic, Twilight knew it would be stopping unicorn magic... not alicorns. This game was an easy win- but Twilight still intended on playing a little. She giggled, nigh giddy for what might be to come. For a moment she thought she might be acting like Pinkie Pie- but then she recalled Pinkie Pie didn't much act like this anymore.
"Shouldn't be long now." She muttered idly, sitting on her hindquarters and moving both of her ears back and forth like some kind of leisure activity. "You've never been known to take long when you feel like it." Twilight knew she wouldn't feel quite so joyous when the one she was waiting for came into the room. After all, she had a bitterness festering inside of her for that pony as deep as her bones. "Oh would you hurry up?" The curious happiness dimmed from her tone, her eyes flitting back and forth from the wall to the door impatiently. She hated waiting nowadays. There was no reason for her to have to since she became a Princess. Information was vital- and why wait for something important?
When the door clicked and clanked and shifted, Twilight stood up with her ears pinned back against her head. She glared, the smile she wore faltering as she spotted glimpses of white and yellow. A long stride made its way into the room- her elegance and brightness contrasting deeply against the darkened walls. Celestia closed the door behind her, her face unreadable as she met Twilight's harsh glare with calculating silence.
"Twilight," Celestia started, her voice less formal than the public might be used to. "I did not expect to see you here. I can't say that I don't know what you're planning. You can get out and you know that. So why are you here?"
Twilight's lip curled into a hideous scowl. "What? I can't continue my studies in my ancient age?" She asked with a bitter venom dripping from her words. "I wanted to talk to you. Is that a crime?" She kept her eyes locked furiously with the pony she once considered a mentor and friend, the remnants of the pony she used to be reflecting back at her through hopeful eyes. Twilight hated that Celestia still had hope for her. What was there to hope for? Killing and pain and agony were all parts of life that she had realized did not need to be hidden from the world the way everyone wanted it to be. Why? For what purpose did inevitable happenings frighten the public? If only it weren't such a taboo, Twilight could teach everyone that death isn't all that bad... and that killing wasn't the worst thing a pony could do.
"I was a fool to ever grant you power, Twilight. How could I have misjudged your character so harshly?" Celestia lamented, shaking her head as she casually sat down in front of her. "I thought you were kind. I thought friendship would shine in you for all your years, and yet here we are now. You've committed acts so heinous against ponies who were your friends- your family." Her ears flattened as she spoke, soft melancholy creeping into an otherwise disappointed lilt. "I fought for you when you attacked Pinkie Pie. I told everypony that it was an act of stress. I got you off the hook. How I wish I had locked you up right then."
"You can't blame me, Princess." The title snaked from her tongue like bile as Twilight slowly circled the taller mare. "You may have granted me power, but your gift of immortality wasn't exactly a blessing." She spat, her ears jittering and pressing hard against her head to flatten themselves as much as possible. "Years and years and years- you never warned me! Why didn't you warn me of the boredom- the monotony! Death was never really a bad thing, right? Isn't that what you wanted to teach me?" Twilight slammed her front hooves down hard against the ground. Celestia glanced at her from the side, her body stiff and unbetraying of the panic that sparked from the sudden movement.
"You cannot press your crimes against me." Celestia insisted calmly, her chest rising and falling only a touch faster than when she walked into the room.
