Prologue

Today is Twilight’s 5th birthday and she is happily excited today. Yesterday, her babysitter Rose Tart a good friend of Shining Armor promised Twilight that she would get her a present when she comes back. And Twilight has been sitting in her room waiting while eating her favorite slice of strawberry cake that she got from her mother.

The delicious strawberry flavor hit Twilight’s tastebuds folly and magnificently, she wanted to eat more so much more but soon realized that she already eaten her last piece and she frowned from the sight of her empty plate.

Then out of the blue Twilight heard a gentle knock at the door and a familiar voice from behind it.

“Twilight. It’s me.” The voice said.

Twilight’s lips formed a big smile before heading towards the door and using her magic to open it carefully. Outside of her door was none other then her alicorn babysitter, Rose Tart. Her coat was light reddish her mane and tail had different shades of light and dark blue color, she had a green emerald earring on the left side of her ear. Yellow lemon eyes a horn on her forehead and wings.

“Rose! You finally came!” Twilight said with happiness in her voice then notice a small light brown box with a blue ribbon on top sitting next to Rose. Twilight raise her hoof and pointed at the box.

“Is that my present?” She asked looking at Rose curiously.

“Yup. Just got him today,” Rose replied looking down at the box then back at the young unicorn. “You wanna See it?”

“Mhmm.”

Twilight rolled her body around to head back to her room, got up on her bed and started jumping in joy while watching her babysitter bringing the box into her room by using her magic. She carefully sets the box down into the floor and Twilight jumps out of her bed and takes two steps towards the box and study it, her mind field with wonder as she stares at it. What could possibly be inside this box?

Maybe it’s a sculpture of Princess Celestia’s castle? Though if it was she doubted it would fit since the box is very small. Or maybe it’s another dress that could be a lot prettier then the other dresses she has in her closet. She was so eager to know what was inside and Twilight was losing her patients.

“Can i open it?” Twilight looked at Rose while pointing at the box with her hoof.

“Ah, ah ah. Not yet,” Rose waved her hoof at Twilight before placing it on top of the box.

“It’s a surprise. So i want you to close your eyes and when i shout “Surprise!” Then you can open them, okay?”

“Okay...”

Twilight nod her head before letting out a sigh. Before Rose could prepare herself, her ears perked up when she heard Twilight’s brother Shining armor calling her from the hallway.

“Rose! Come here, i need you!”

Rose turned her head at the direction of his voice before turning back to face Twilight while taking her hoof off the box.

“Stay here Twilight.” Rose said rolling her body around to exit the room.

“Aww, but Rose!?” Twilight wines while following the red alicorn.

“I’ll be back i promise. It’ll only take a sec, in the meantime don’t open your present till i return okay?” Rose reassured Twilight before turning back around and walk out the door while using her magic to close the door behind her, leaving Twilight alone in her room.

Twilight groaned out of annoyance while at the same time stomping her hoof on the floor till she was interrupted by a small thud that hit the floor like something small had fallen over. Twilight slowly turned her head then sees the lid to the box was on the floor and she could clearly see the inside of the box was empty.

Whatever was inside of the box... was now gone.

“Huh? Where did it go?” Twilight asked herself as she stared at the empty box and lid on the floor.

She started to get nervous as she began to scan around the whole room, she looked at her bed it was still fine and made up as she last left it. Her mother always reminded her to make up her bed before having breakfast. She turned to her right at her huge box field with stuffed dolls, there was one alicorn doll that looked exactly like Princess Celestia and another alicorn doll that looked like Princess Luna.

Twilight turned to her left at the closed doors of her closest and her shelf full of books, as usual nothing was there so she had nothing to worry about. Or atleast that’s what she thought when she heard a unfamiliar voice coming from her own room.

“Hey! Hey you.”

Twilight’s ears instantly perked up by the sound of that voice.

“Down here.”

Twilight lowered her head down slowly before letting out a cute small gasp at what she saw. Under her bed staring back at her was a small grey pony like doll. The string on its head was shaped like a black mane while the rest of the strings on it’s bottom was shaped like a tail, it wore blue shorts with white polka dots on them.

It had ears like a pony and it’s eyes looked like buttons with different colors in them. The right eye had a light blue color while the left eye had a light pink color to it, on its left hoof was this dark green fabric that was shaped like a square and sowed into his hoof. The grey pony doll crawls out of her bed and stands on it’s two stubby legs before waving at the young unicorn.

“Hi there. My name is Smarty pants, nice to meet ya!” Smarty said while placing her hoof into her chest.

Twilight stood there in shocked her hoof over mouth as she stares at the talking doll.

“Hey! What’s you’re name?” Smarty pants asked while pointing her hoof at her.

“T-Tw-Twilight.... Sparkle?” Twilight felt her lips trembling as she stutters while trying to answer her question.

Smarty notice that her body was shaking, and seeing that made her thought that she probably has never met a talking doll before. Smarty pants rubs the back of her head with a her small hoof while bowing her head at the little fillie.

“Hey, um. I’m sorry if I scared ya, i was only trying to surprise you...but i guess my appearance kinda shocked you heh heh heh.” Smarty pants confesses while still bowing her head.

As Twilight stood there staring at it, she released her hoof away from her mouth takes a moment to calm herself down then takes a few slow steps towards it before stopping her self at her tracks.

She then asked the most silliest and most dumbest question that was enough to make Smarty pants laugh her butt off.

“Um. Are you really real?”

Smarty pants chuckled by that question but tries her best to hold in her laughter.

“C-Come again?” Smarty pants asked.

“I-I said: Are you real?”

The grey coated doll falls to the floor she couldn’t hold it in anymore. She wrapped her hoofs around her little waist and just starts laughing, it lasted for only a few seconds before she stood back and finally answers Twilight’s question.

“Of!— Of course i’m real silly, if i wasn’t i wouldn’t be standing here now would i?”

Twilight felt her cheeks blushed out of embarrassment as she turned her head away from Smarty. There were more questions that Twilight wanted to ask, questions like: Where did it come from? How is it talking? Are there stores were they sell talking dolls to other ponies? On top of that; why would Rose give Twilight a talking doll in the first place?

So many questions she had but couldn’t find the answer to them.

‘Maybe i should ask him?’ Twilight thought to herself, however, her thoughts where interrupted by the sound hoofsteps and a familiar voice that calls for her.

“Twilight! I’m coming back!”

It was Rose, she was coming back after seeing what Shining armor needed her for. Twilight didn’t have enough time to ask and without hesitation she quickly grabbed Smarty pants and threw her back in the box.

“Hey!? What’s wro—. Smarty pants tried to ask Twilight but was cut off by her by shoving her hoof over her mouth giving a loud.

“Hush! We’ll talk later!”

Twilight quickly puts the lid back over to the box and wrapped the ribbon back on top of it, positioning it in place like it was before. Twilight moves away from the box then turns around to face the door till it slowly opened from Roses magic as she enters the room.

“Sorry I took to long, your brother needed me to help him with his homework.” Rose said while apologizing to the young fillie.

“Oh no, no no it’s fine.” Twilight responded instantly after Rose said that.

“Okay then. Oh that reminds me; you didn’t opened your present while I was gone did you?” She asked while walking towards Twilight’s present then back at Twilight waiting for an answer.

“Oh, nope. I left it just as you told me too.” Twilight lied before smiling cutely.

Rose didn’t let go of her gaze at Twilight, she looked at her with a suspicions expression on her face but it didn’t last for long as she smiled again.

“Alright. Wanna see what’s inside?”

“Yeah!”

In truth; Twilight wanted to tell her the truth, about a walking, talking doll just came to life and was talking to her. But Twilight was afraid that even if she did tell her she wouldn’t believe it, so she decided to keep it a secret...for now.

Luna’s moon was rising high in the sky. It was now time for everypony to go to bed, Rose had already tucked Shining armor to bed and turned his light off all that was left was Twilight as Rose was taking Twilight up in her room.

Twilight kept Smarty pants near her during the day but sometimes it was hard talking to Smarty with her brother and her babysitter wandering around. She decided that next morning once she’s alone she can finally have her talk with Smarty but until then Twilight’s tired and she wants to get some sleep.

Twilight raised a hoof over her mouth letting out a small yawn before entering her room with Rose following behind, leading Twilight to her bed.

“Okay sleepyhead. Time for bed.” Rose said as soon as Twilight jumps into her bed while she gently tucks her in. Twilight looks up at Rose before pulling Smarty pants close to her.

“Will we go to the amusement park tomorrow?” Twilight asked Rose while laying her head down on the pillow.

“Well if your brother doesn’t get sick we’ll see.” Rose replied after tucking Twilight in. She then leans in and leaves a kiss on Twilight’s horn before pulling back to smile at the young filliy.

“Goodnight Twilight.” She said in a ‘soft, quiet tone.’

“Goodnight Mrs Tart,” Twilight responded.

Rose turns around and walks slowly out of Twilight’s room. She raises her hoof to flip the switch to turn off the lights before turning around to face Twilight, Smiles at her one last time before using her magic to close the door as the door made a creaking noise. The door closed slowly before giving a small click that it was closed.

Twilight hugged her doll tightly then whispered to it before closing her eyes.

“Goodnight, Smarty pants...” Twilight’s eyes were fully closed as she drifted off to sleep, hoping to go to the Dream Land as she sleeps peacefully.

But unfortunately. Her mind couldn’t reach for dream land, as her ears instantly went up by the sound of somepony’s.... scream.
