In the morning hours of the Crystal Empire, the rays of the sun began to seep through the windows of the crystal spire: the great castle in the center of the city, dawning a new day and the rise of the palace staff. Many had begun earlier that morning, preparing for the awakening of the Crystal Empire’s rulers, Princess Cadence and Prince Shining Armor, either by cleaning the halls, washing windows, or preparing their sovereigns breakfast. None, however, awoke as early as the court wizard.
Or perhaps it is better to say that he stayed up all night.
Again.
In the wizard’s bedroom and impromptu study, Sunburst sat at his overfilled desk, blinds closed while a select few candle lit the cramped space. His eyes, tired and shadowed, were glued to the pages of a large and hefty manuscript. Ancient tomes, scrolls and spell books were piled up around him, towering high towards the ceiling, forming an extensive mass of reading material. He had organized his reading schedule the previous night, having received a new shipment of supplies from the Canterlot archives, after he had finished the previous batch the month before. Narrow passages split piles from other precariously leaning piles, turning his already cramped living space into a nightmare of a maze for those not akin to the space like the bespectacled orange unicorn was. As per usual the well read pony was habitually tugging at his small orange goat beard with one of his white hooves while he was tentatively reading, cozilly wrapped in star dotted green blanket. A gift made by his mother before he left to study magic in Canterlot.
His horn lit up, another page turning as he let out a small yawn. He was tired, he would admit, but after spending so many years binge reading entire nights away, it was nothing he couldn’t handle. “Just one more page,” he thought, as he had done so many pages before. He simply couldn’t help himself when it came to books. He loved everything about them. Reading was one of his passions, something done with such fervor as to make him feel isolated from the rest of the world. Calm, tranquil, silent; drawn into a world not your own where you could play out your deepest fantasies. Or perhaps learn something, a use of books he equally enjoyed.
The manuscript he was reading was odd to say the least, even in the title: Jellie Star’s Magical Oddities And Tricks. It was an old book, written sometime around 223 A.B, by a… slightly screw-loosed individual as far as his research told him. While he did create many stange and fascinating spells the wizard had, during the later course of his career, stirred quite the ruckus—enough to warrant his imprisonment and the confiscation of all his work! “A sad way to have your career end.” Sunburst though, always fascinated by anything magic. It disappointed him that such an unconventional spellcaster had been stopped from his magical pursuit in the prime of his career.
Either way, Sunburst found the tale fascinating and, after reading more than halfway through his research journals, had been more than intrigued to read up on unicorn’s crazy spells. Spells such as Jellie’s Spell of Leprechaun's Luck, or perhaps his spell on something called “Cringe Energy Generation”, or even Jellie’s Spell of Sheepish Dreams. One stuck out to him though: pg. 127, Jellie’s Spell of Foalhood Time. The name alone warranted research, at least for him.
A thud reverberated through the room as the court wizard closed the tome and laid it aside, erupting a bout of quiet coughs from the dust. The best that he could tell was that it was written in old equinish, probably having a different meaning in past years. The texts description stated how the spell would grant its user “the joy of foalhood once again”. Such a promise struck a fine chord with him as he recalled his younger self playing in the fields of Sires Hollow with his foalhood friend, Starlight. The fun moments they shared going on adventures and doing exciting things! Sadly, as time went on, their friendship grew distant, and he had left. True he did get angry with Starlight when she used an illusion spell to make him look like a foal again without warning, but, despite that, he did wish he could have stayed like that for a little bit longer.
But now, with this spell, he could relive those feelings, those memories!
He could relive his foalhood once again.
At least, that’s what he thought the spell would do. The details were rather vague, but the temptation was too big to ignore. He needed this!
The convenient part for Sunburst was that the spell was already crafted in the book. Despite being a unicorn with a rather modest magical prowess, he wouldn’t usually be able to cast such a powerful spell. However, with this book substituting for his lack in magic, Sunburst would be able to perform the spell all on his own.
With those thoughts rattling in his mind, he lowered his horn and began to weave the spell, linking his magic to the spell page, the yellow magic converging on him. He followed the instructions laid out by the book, step by step, constructing the spell carefully in his aura.
The magic grew in intensity, his eyes glowing a bright white until, finally, he completed the circuit and released the spell. A bright flash filled the room as a wave of energy washed over him, causing the books pages to flutter and his cloak to billow. The memories flooded back in! They- well, actually, he didn’t feel any different…
Sunburst opened his eyes and scanned the room, adjusting his glasses anxiously, looking at himself with a scrupulous gaze. Nothing appeared to have changed, and he didn’t feel any different or any younger. Perhaps it was the fact that he was tired, he guessed. His spell configuration must have been blurry and only performed a magical release. He groaned as he brought the book back over with his magic, burying his muzzle into it, and flopped down on the hard floor. “What did I do wrong?”
*crinkle*
His eyes widened as he felt something soft on his flank compress against the crystal floor. He reared his head back and lifted his cloak, finding a surprising new article beneath his usual attire: a big, fluffy white diaper. “What?!?!”
Panic set in. This wasn’t supposed to happen at all! He grabbed the tapes of the foalish garment and tried to rip them off, but found that they wouldn’t budge. He wrestled with the padding, lighting his horn and pulling at the diaper with wasted effort. He rolled around for a few minutes, trying to slip out of the embarrassing garment, tussling with it in every conceivable way he could imagine. Finally, as fatigue began to set in, he gave up on the hope of getting rid of the foalish apparel in such a manner. A sigh escaped his lips from is embarrassing predicament. He didn’t want to be stuck in this for any longer then he had to be, and panicking wouldn’t solve anything. He had to calm down. “Ok, Sunburst,” he spoke, consoling himself in this dire situation, “how am I gonna get out of this thing?” He didn’t want to find out what what would happen when one of his basic biological needs start creeping in. He felt a shiver run up his back at the thought.
Staying calm was a good first step. Keeping a cool head could go a long way when deciphering a spell. Even still, it wasn’t easy. He’d never dealt with any sort of crisis like this! What if he got found out, or couldn’t get the diaper off in time?!?! “Quit freaking yourself out, Sunburst!”
He needed to clear his mind and think. He began to scour the book filled room, his diaper crinkling at every minute move he made, causing a blush to form on his muzzle. Finally, he noticed the same book he had dropped and, anxiously, he levitated it towards himself. He opened it once more and began scrying it’s dusty pages for a possible solution.
*knock, knock, knock!*
Sunburst head perked up as the diapered court wizard looked towards the door to his room. His breakfast wasn’t due to arrive till another hour or so. “Uh- coming!” He bit his lip as he looked back to the book for a brief period, before he turned around and walked towards the door, throwing his cloak over the diaper, hoping that it would conceal it from any casual observers despite the noticeable bulge beneath. “Dear Celestia, I hope that it’s enough.”
Orange magic took hold of the door and slowly opened it, peeking his green gaze out through the crack. “Princess Cadence!”
The unicorn slammed the door open, quickly bowing before raising his head once more. Beneath the catharsis of noise, the faint sound of crinkling plastic could be heard. “I apologize for not greeting you sooner. I was just busy reading over a very interesting spell book and I-”
“Sweet Celestia, Sunburst! Did you stay up all night?” Cadence interrupted, looking over the bags under his eyes. Her worry was evident as she reached over and propped his gaze towards hers. “When I said organize the books, I meant for you to do so with a modicum of self-care.”
“I'm fine, your majesty,” Sunburst assured, raising his hoof in an easing motion. “I just got carried away, that's all.”
The monarch sighed, lowering her hoof away from his jaw. “At least try to set a time to go to sleep.”
He nodded. “Of course. Now, if you don’t mind me asking... is there a reason why you’re here, your highness?”
“Ah, yes,” Cadence chirped. “I need you to take care of Flurry for me while I’m out on your for today. It’s rather lucky that last night was the night you decided to stay up. It should be rather easy.”
It wasn’t strange that she would ask him this. He often did so on his off days, playing with, comforting, and changing Flurry Heart—he’d dare say that he had mastered the art of rearing the young foal. He spoke with no hesitation in his voice. “Of course.” It would also give him time to figure out how to undo the spell. “I’d be happy to do so.”
A gleeful smile graced her muzzle. “Thank you so much!” She wrapped her arms around him, bringing him into a friendly embrace before she leaned over to his ear and whispered, “You may also want to be careful with your, um… attire.” She let go and trotted off, leaving Sunburst to his thoughts once again.
“Now to get to- wait! What!?!?”
Sunburst entered the nursery, his face burning as his eyes glanced across the walls and furnishings of Flurry’s room. He found the young goal in her crib, gently sleeping. He gave a sigh of relief. Now he had plenty of time to think about how to get rid of this accursed diaper!
He sat down on a couch in the center of the room and pulled out two books from under his cloak. His horn’s yellow magic opened the pages as he started his investigations. “What should I look into first? Perhaps the spell itself. Or perhaps Clover’s Counterspells and Anti-curse Collection. Hmm…”
Something… felt strange. He couldn’t put a hoof on it, but his instincts were telling him something was wrong. Just as quickly as they came however, he squashed them out. Feelings such as these were unfounded. “I’ll start with the latter.” He looked away from the two manuscripts and found something surprising. He had unknowingly placed his hoof in his mouth. “Eww…”
The unicorn quickly pulled the appendage away from his face, wiping it on his cloak to remove the filthy texture of saliva. Odd, but not unwarranted. Perhaps the anxiety about this whole diaper situation was getting to him.
A yawn broke his thoughts as he looked towards Flurry’s crib. The young foal sat up and surveyed the room, her blue eyes falling on him. She smiled a cawed with glee. He placed down the books and began to trot towards her. “Good morning. I’m glad to see you awake and happy.” He picked her up in his hooves, prompting her to reach for his goatee. He gently pushed her hooves away. “Na-ah, Flurry. You know I don’t like it when you pull on that.” She gave a small pout, but was interrupted by the growling of her belly. Sunburst smiled. “Guess someone’s hungry.” He placed her down onto the floor and trotted towards the pantry.
His eyes scoured over the various options for food. Perhaps some sliced carrot, or maybe apple slices, or even something mashed might work. All good options, but a good start would be a warm bottle of milk.
He grabbed a large carton from a refrigerator on the side of the wall and laid it on the counter, before he trotted over to one of the cabinets and opened it, pulling out a small bottle with a pink nipple to suck on. He brought all of it together, and began to work his magic. He levitated the carton and poured the milk into the bottle before replacing the nipple and shaking the bottle to ensure it was secure. Finally, with a light heating spell, the milk was made warm and ready to drink. Drink.
As he looked at it, a desire came upon him. The more he looked at it, the more appetizing it appeared. He licked his tongue and felt how dry his mouth was. He was parched. Perhaps one sip wouldn’t hurt. He slowly brought the pink nipple to his lips, that thirst growing ever stronger. His mouth closed around the nipple and he began to suck. It was just one tiny suckle, but as the creamy goodness hit his mouth, he couldn’t help but take one more. Slowly, his drinking turned from mild and cautious to needy and excessive. He suckled down as much as he possibly could, feeling the warm drink run down his throat and into his belly. That was until he began to hear crying.
Sunburst eyes widened as his senses came back to him. He looked to the bottle and ripped it from his lips, mortified as he looked back to the small foal. The milk was practically gone, and panic began to set into his mind as he rushed to fill up another bottle. “I’m so sorry, Flurry. I’ll get you another bottle!” He ran to the cabinet once again and picked up another bottle, before running over to the refrigerator to grab the milk and repeat the process again.
As he did this, thoughts began to rush through his head. Perhaps he was too worried about this whole diaper fiasco to be thinking straight, but drinking from a bottle? He felt like an idiot for starters, but now his urges would come upon him even sooner! “Stupid! Stupid!” He would have to be better next time. Calmer, more in control. He needed a clear mind to get rid of his diaper.
“His?”
After replacing the milk and giving it to Flurry Heart, he finally got her to calm down and play with some blocks. A good situation for him as it finally gave him time to read the book.
Sunburst sat down and levitated the old book onto the table. He opened its contents and turned back to the page 127 of the text. “Now let’s see here, hmm… as the spell begins to charge, you need to perform an anti-neuro magic field to ensuwe the pwoper bawance of- of… Wait! What da heck’s wong wiff my mouth? Why do I have a wisp?!” Sunburst stopped as he heard himself. Ok, now someting here was definitely wong. Why was he tawking wike dis? Why was he thinking wike dis?! “Now even my thawts have it! I can’t wead wike dis.” Panic started to set in until he calmed himself. “Rewax,” he thought, “it’s just stwess. Perhaps I’m simpwy wesorting to dis as a cawming mecha- mech- a cawming ting.” He probably needed a break. Maybe he could do something like… like play with Flurry Heart. Those blocks did look fun.
Slowly, he crawled out of his chair and began to approach the young foal. However, his cloak caught on a snag. So, with a tad bit of effort, he undid it and let it fall to the floor, revealing his fluffy white diaper. He finally reached her and sat down on his padded bum, picking up a block and stacking it on top of her pre-construction. Flurry looked up to him, before a giggle escaped her lips and she clapped her hooves. He giggled as well, before the two began to build a grand block tower.
The thought of stopping did pass through his mind, his rational side screaming at him that this wasn’t right! But the desire to play was too great. Besides, he didn’t want to go back and read that stuffy dead guys stuff. This was fun!
And so he continued on, his time with the foal a blur as they switched from game to game. In one such game, the two were playing with a set of dolls, their eyes glued to their figures. As they did this, Flurry stopped, prompting Sunburst to halt his game as well. His green eyes widened as he saw the young foal stand on her hooves and squat as she let out a large load into her diaper. She grunted and paid no heed to the bigger stallion until she had finally finished her business and began to play.
Sunburst felt his rationale rush to the front of his thoughts as his senses started to return to him. “You need to stop dis, Sunbuwst! You can’t keep doing dis! Fowcus!” But, why couldn’t he? He was having so much fun. “You’we a gwown colt- I mean stawwion!” So? He was happy. He looked back to Flurry and saw that her diaper was wet, too. He felt the need to go as well. Besides, going to the toilet would take him away from his fun. “...but you’we an aduwt…”
…Nonsense! Absolute nonsense!
Consciousness took a backseat as his instinct took over. He stood from his spot and squatted, relaxing as he released his biological urges. A stream of piss made its way into his diaper, causing it to swell in size. His bladder relaxed itself as the urine was whisked away by the padding. At the same time, his bowels pushed out as he grunted in strain. A massive load entered into his diaper, cramming itself into every nook and cranny it could find. He felt the mass of manure fill his diaper in the back and the yellow stream of piss cause his diaper to swell. His padding began to sag from the weight he released. Finally, it came to an end as he panted from the exertion, before he sat back down and began to play. And in that moment, he could feel his mind disappear as the foal inside of him took over. No more boring book. Now was playtime. Playtime for now and ever after.
On the table, as the two foals played and the moon began to rise, text appeared on the pages of the book. A single sentence, a single message.
Let us fulfill your little dream, by making you a foal for all of eternity.
