Friendship is magic ( part 1)
Twilight's P.O.V
Once soon a time in the magical land of Equestria there were two royal sisters who ruled together and created harmony to all the land. To do this the older used her alicorn magic to raise the sun for the day. The younger sister brought out the moon to begin the night. Thanks to their powerful magic the two sisters maintained balance for their kingdom and the unicorns,earth ponies and pegasi.
But as time went on the younger sister became jealous. The ponies laughed and played in the day her older brought into Equestria but ignored and slept through her beautiful night.
One fateful day the younger alicorn refused to lower the moon to make way for the day. The older sister tried to reason with her but the jealousy in the younger sisters heart had transformed her into a evil mare of shadows and nightmares.
Nightmare Moon. She vowed that she would cloud the land in eternal night. Reluctantly the older sister used the most powerful magic known the in Equestria. The Elements of Harmony.
Using the magic of the elements of harmony she defeated her younger sister and banished her in the moon for one thousand years.
The older sister took on the responsibility for the sun and moon and harmony has been maintained for generations since.
Twilight said as she finished reading. "The Elements of Harmony. I know I have heard of those before. But where "?
Twilight was walking down a road in Canterlot when some ponies stopped her.
There was a yellow one with a blue mane with 2 blue hearts with one green one. There was also a cream coloured one with a light pink mane. Her cutie Mark was three blue stars. The last one had a light blue coat with a mane that was half dark blue and white. They were all carrying presents.
The cream one spoke. "We finally found you twilight. Moondancer is having a party in the West castle wing. You wanna come"? The three ponies looked eagerly at twilight.
"Oh sorry I got a lot of studing to catch up on. So i cant come". Twilight replied while looking at the dusty book in her saddle bag. Then with an awkward smile she dashed off.
As soon as twilight was gone the cream one groaned. "Does twilight do anything other than study or read? If she was given the chance she would live in a library." The yellow one replied " I think she's more interested in schoolwork and studying than making friends and having fun".
While a up beat tune played as twilight was running. She mumbled. "I know I've heard about the elements harmony somewhere. If this is true that could mean that Nightmare Moon could return."
She galloped past some purple and green ponies. While the ponies waved twilight just rudly twilight just ignored them. Twilight was soon galloping up a wonderfully decorated spiral staircase and into a library tower.
Unfortunately for spike her dragon assistant she kicked open the door which sent spike and a wrapped gift flying."Spike? Where are you? There you are. Stop lieing around. He have work to do! "
As spike was recovering from the slamming door while his eyes rolled around. Twilight raced around the library. While spikes present was stuck on his pointy tail. "Find me an old copy of predictions and prophecies. I need to check if Nightmare Moon and the Elements of Harmony are real."
She suddenly noticed the present on spikes tail. "Why do you have a present?" While he shook it off his tail. He replied." Well was a teddy bear for Moondancer but I don't think I can give it to her like this." The teddy bear inside fell out along with it's stuffing.
Twilight looked at him with a annoyed glance." Urg how many times do I have to tell you we can't go to parties. That just wastes time for studying." "But we were going to go on a break this week!"
Using her magic twilight lifted a blue book of the top of a bookcase. "No no no no no!!! Ugh. Spike!" Spike was on a ladder on another bookcase." I found it."
As twilight grabbed the book with her magic she accidently made him face plant on the hard crystal floor. Twilight then dropped all the other books on the floor. While twilight trotted off not caring about the mess. Spike sadly started to pick up the books twilight dropped.
"Elements elements e e e". Twilight said while peering through the book with magic. "Elements of Harmony see Mare in the Moon?" Twilight said with a confused expression."Mare in the Moon? But that's just a old ponies tale for naughty colts and fillies." Spike replied.
While looking through another book found the page about the mare in the Moon.
"The mare in the moon is a myth from olden times. An evil alicorn that wanted to rule Equestria. When she attacked princess Celestia defeated her with the Elements of Harmony and was imprisoned in the Moon.
Legend has it that a millenia after her defeat on the longest day of the year the stars would align and aid in her escape and she would bring eternal nighttime".
"So the Elements of Harmony do exist.Spike do know what this means?"
"No. What does it mean?" replied spike as he fell of a ladder while reshelving books.
As he fell he landed on twilight's back while she was carrying a scroll with her magic.
"It means that Nightmare Moon will get to return relatively soon".
"Take a note to the princess Spike." Twilight said as she gave the scroll to spike. "Okay". Said spike getting a scroll and still.
"My dearest teacher, Princess Celestia. My advancing studies of powerful magic have lead me to discover that we are on the prevalence of disaster"!
Unfortunately spike couldn't spell that.
"Threshold"!
Or that.
"Brink"?
Seriously? Spike can't spell THAT?
"That something really terrible is about to happen in Equestria"! Twilight yelled in aggravation.
Spike quickly scribbled that down.
Twilight continued." For you see the mythical story Mare in the Moon is in fact the exact same story as Nightmare moon. She's about to return back to Equestria and bring back eternal night and nightmares forever! I humbly request that something must be done to make sure this awful prediction doesn't become true. I await your response and instructions. Your faithful student twilight sparkle."
"Finished."
"So send it".
"Right now?"
"Yes spike. Right now."
"I dont know Twilight. Princess Celestia is a little busy with the Summer Sun Celebration. It is the biggest celebration of the year and it's like the day after tomorrow." Spike said as twilight angrily stared at him.
"That's right spike. Tommorow is the 1000th year of the Summer Sun Celebration and the Summer Sun Celebration is the longest day of the year."
Twilight exclaimed while looking at the sun through the glass roof.
"It's imperative that the princess right away." Twilight said leaning over spike almost making him fall over.
"Impera impera". Spike studdered as he tried to spell imperative. "IMPORTANT" Twilight yelled making Spike actually fall over this time. "Okay" spike said as he gave in. With a breath of magic green fire he sent the scroll to princess Celestia.
"But I wouldn't hold your breath if I was you." Spike said in child-like tone.
"I'm not worried Spike. The Princess trusts me completely and I trust her completely. In all the years she's been my mentor, teacher and confidant the Princess has never once doubted me and I have never doubted her." Twilight replied with a confident and slightly stuck up tone.
Suddenly spike burped up a scroll with another magic green flame.
"See I knew she would want to take immediate action." Twilight said with an even more smug tone.
Spike began to read out the letter." My dearest most faithful student Twilight. You know I value your dillergence, intelligence and judgement and that I trust you completely. But you simply must stop reading those dusty old books. It has come to my beliefs that spike is your only company in Canterlot so I am taking action according to that." Ah
Meanwhile.
Flaming shields P.O.V
I had just finished picking up my daytime fireworks for the Summer Sun Celebration form from filidelfia.
It's not easy being a pony/changling hybrid in a town that literally ooses love. But that doesn't mean I steal it from anypony.Of cause I have disguised my self as a regular pony. No one knows that I'm half changling except my parents and older sister.
The food Ponyville makes is made with lot's of love so that makes me a meal.
My coat is a red-orangey color and my mane is a yellowy-orange. My cutie Mark is a blue shield with red and green flames. I'm the only pyrokenesis magic user in Equestria ( that I know of).
My house is near golden oaks library. I'm trying desperately to avoid sugarcube corner. That's where the most hyper pony in all of Equestria lives and hyper ponies plus fireworks equals DISASTER!!
Huh I think I see a flying carriage in the distance. That must be the emissary from Canterlot that is supervising the preparations. Is that a baby dragon?!?
Back to twilight's P.O.V
"My dear twilight there is more to a young pony's life than studying and reading so I'm sending you to supervise the celebration and preparations in my place for the Summer Sun festival in this year's location Ponyville. And I have an even more important task for you to complete. Make some friends so you won't be alone.
Spike said as he finished reading princess Celestia's letter. Twilight just rolled her eyes and groaned. "Look on the bright side twilight. The princess arranged for you to stay in a library. Doesn't that make you happy? That must make you happy" Spike asked.
Twilight suddenly sat up. "Yes spike. Yes it does.Because I am right Spike. I'll check on prepations as fast as I can so I can go back to the library to find proof of Nightmare Moon's return!
"But when will you make friends like the princess said?" Spike asked" She said to check on preparations. I am her student doing her royal duty but the fate of Equestria does not rely on me making friends!"
2rd pony P.O.V
After the carriage landed twilight went over and thanked the Pegasus guards that flew the carriage. This made the pegasus guards smile.
"Maybe the ponies of Ponyville have interesting things to talk about." Spike said as a pink pony with a mane that looked like cotton candy approached them. Her cutie Mark were three balloons.
"Come on twilight just try." Spike encouraged her." Urh hello..."
The pink pony suddenly jumped high in the air and gasped loudly. GUUUHH!!! Then she ran off in the middle of the air.
"Well that was interesting alright." Twilight replied with a sarcastic tone. Spike sighed in disappointment.
"Summer Sun Celebration official overseers checklist". Spike read out loud. "Number one banquet preparations. Sweet Apple Acres." Yehaaw".
The yehaaw came from a light orange mare with a blond mane and tail held up with two read hairbands. Her cutie Mark was three red apples. She also had a brown cowboy hat perched on her head.
She raced over to a apple tree with wooden buckets around it and then bucked the tree with both her hind legs causing all the apples in the tree to fall down into the buckets. She smiled with a accomplished look on her face.
Twilight hung her head low." let's get this over with. Good afternoon my name is twilight sparkle.
The orange mare then shook twilight's hoove really fast. " Well howdy do Miss twilight a pleasure making your accquatance. I'm Applejack. We here at Sweet Apple Acres sure do like making new friends."
"Friends? Actually I " Twilight tried to say but her hoof was still being shook by Applejack.
"So what can I do for you?" Applejack asked with a wink. Spike had to stop twilights hoof from shaking. He failed to stop laughing at twilight's hoof going up and down even after Applejack stopped shaking.
"well in fact I am here to supervise preparations for the Summer Sun Celebration and the list of preparations told me to come here. So you're in charge of the food?"
"We sure are sugarcube.We sure are. Would you care to sample some food?"
"As long as it doesn't take too long." Twilight replied in an annoyed tone
Applejack then rang a dirty triangle and yelled." Soups on everypony"!!
Twilight and spike turned around to be runned over by Applejack's relatives.
They were then sitting next to a table with a pladded decoration. Their eyes were still rolling around when Applejack said. "Now why don't I introduce y'all to the Apple family? It is the apple family reunion"
A lot of ponies looked eagerly at twilight and spike for their response.
"Thanks but I really need to..."
Applejack was either being painfully oblivious or was just ignoring her." This here's apple fritter, apple bumpkin, red galla, red delicious, golden delicious, caramel apple,apple bloomer, apple tart, main galla, apple briot,apple cinnamon crisp,... big Macintosh, apple bloom and granny Smith. Applejack said as the table was piled high with apple themed food.
"Up and at them granny Smith. We got guests. From Canterlot too" Applejack said waking the old mare from her nap." Huh what Sumter? Canterlot ya say? Well im a coming."
"Well I'll say your already a part of the family. Well all my friends are like family". Applejack said.
This make twilight's eyes widden with worry. She than spit out the chewed up Granny smith apple in her mouth." He ha ha. Okay well I can see the food situation is handled so we'll be on our way After all there are a lot of ponies we need to see.
"But aren't you going to stay for brunch?" Applebloom asked with huge yellow puppy dog eyes.
"Sorry but we have an awful lot to do."
All the Apple family lowered their heads disappointingly." Awww".
Twilight looked around." Fine. We can stay for brunch". Several yays and whoo-hoos where heard with this response.
"Food all taken care of next is weather". Spike said as he walked in front of twilight who's stomach was clearly visible after eating too much food at the Apple family brunch.
"I ate too much apple pie" was her only response. "There's supposed to be a pegasus pony named Rainbow dash clearing the clouds". Spike said as he looked up to see how Rainbow dash was doing with her job.
Twilight looked up and there were clouds everywhere in the sky." Well she's not doing a very good job is she"? Twilight replied sarcasticly.
As soon as those words left her mouth a rainbow coloured blur slammed into her causing twilight to fall into a mud puddle.
"Heh heh. Excuse me". Said a pegasus. Her coat was a light blue and her eyes were a ruby red. Her mane and tail was a rainbow. Her cutie Mark was a rainbow lightning bolt bursting out from a cloud.
"Let me help you wash off". She got a dark cloud and jumped on it to make it rain on twilight until she was soaked." I guess I over did it. Um er... how about this to dry you off"?
She started to fly around twilight really fast to cause a rainbow hurricane around twilight." My very own move. The rainblow dry. You don't need to thank me helping somepony it a reward on its own".
Twilight's mane was a mess. It all curled and poffed up with hairs sticking out. It was filled with split ends.
It was so funny looking that the pegasus fell on the ground laughing with tears in her eyes. Spike did the same.
"Let me guess you're rainbow dash". Twilight said to the pegasus.
"The one and only. Why you heard of me"?
"I heard that your supposed to be keeping the sky clear. I'm twilight sparkle and the princess sent me to check on the weather".
"Yeah yeah that will be a snap. I'll do it in a jiffy as soon as I'm done practising".
"Practasing for what"?
"The wonderbolts. They're going to preform at the celebration tomorrow and I'm going to show them my stuff".
"THE wonderbolts"?
"Eyup".
"The most talanted fliers in all of Equestria.
"That's them".
"Please they would never accept a pegasus who can't even keep the sky clear for one measly day".
"Hey I could clear this sky in ten seconds flat".
"Prove it".
Rainbow raced around gating rid of all the clouds in the sky." What did I say. Ten seconds flat. I'll never leave ponyville hanging".
Twilight and spike just sat there with their mouths open in shock.
"You should see the look on your face. You're laugh twilight sparkle. I can't wait to hang out some more".Said rainbow dash as she flew off.
"She's amazing". exclaimed spike. Then he laughed as he played with twilight's hair.
They walked into a large building where there was a large amount of amazing decorations and decor was placed.
"Beautiful". Spike said in a dreamy voice.
"Yes the decor is coming along nicely. This ought to be quick. I'll be in the library in no time. Beautiful indeed". Twilight said.
"Not the decor. Her". Spike said referring to the pony in front of them.
She was a white unicorn mare with a curvy violet mane and tail. She wore blue eye shadow and her eyes were a silver gray. Her cutie Mark was three blue diamonds.
She was floating ribbon with her magic. " No no no oh goodness no".
Spikes green dragon ireses had changed into pink hearts.
"How are my spines? Are they straight?"
Twilight just rolled her eyes at spikes behavior. "Good afternoon". Twilight started to speak. "Just a moment please. I'm in the zone. Ah yes sparkle always does the trick dose it not? Why rarity you are a talant. Now how can I help yuugh"!!!
Rarity finally noticed twilight dreadful mane." Oh my stars! Darling! What ever happened to your coffure"?!?
"You mean my mane? Well it's a long story. I'm just hear to checkup on the decoration and then I'll be out of your hair."
"Out of my hair? What about your hair?"
"Wait where are we going? Help!" Spike used his tail as a propelar leaving a trail of hearts.
"Too green. Too yellow. Too poofy. Not poofy enough. Too frilly. Too shyding. Perfect". Twilight was trying on outfits each one more ridiculous than the last.
"Now then darling you were telling me where you are from". Rarity said as she was fitting twilight into a dress." I've been sent from Canterlot". Twilight struggled to say.
"Canterlot! Oh I am so so envious. The glamour. The sophistication. I have always dreamed living there. I can't wait to hear all about it. We are going to be the best of friends you and I. Emeralds! What was I thinking? Let me get you some rubies."
"Ouick before she tries to die my coat a new colour". Spike just sighed a daydream smile.
As twilight and spike ran outside that ran into flaming shield."oh".
"I am so sorry. I didn't mean to run into you". Twilight said.
"No problem. Hey aren't you the pony from Canterlot that's supervising the Summer Sun Celebration"? asked flaming star.
"Yes I'm twilight sparkle and you are"?
" I'm flaming shield and I'm in charge of the fireworks".
"Great! Well I need to see that the fireworks are prepared and ready for tomorrow".
"Okay follow me". Replied flaming shield.
Finally some pony who's sane around here. Twilight thought.
"Here we are". Said flaming shield as they walked into a regular house.
"But this is just a regular house" spike said.
"Yep I keep the fireworks in my basement. Tea?" Flaming sheild asked.
"Yes please". Twilight replied.
Then suddenly cold water and a teabag was put in a cup and placed in front of twilight.
"This is cold". Said twilight.
"Just hold your cup up".
"Okay" twilight wondered where he was with this.
Suddenly the cup grew warmer and there was a little flame in the middle of the water.
"How in the name of Celestia did you do that"?!?
"Well I kinda used my pyrokenesis magic on the tea".
"What's py py". Asked spike.
"Pyrokenesis means you can control fire with your mind. That why I'm in charge of the fireworks so they can be launched and displayed safely". Flaming shield explained.
"Thank you for the tea but we have to get going but do you know where we can find the pony in charge of music here"? Asked twilight.
"I would recommend going into the trees near by Ponyville she often stops there to relax in times of pressure". Said flaming shield.
"Okay let's go spike. Thanks for the tea".
" you're welcome and if you need someone to talk to my door is open". Flaming shield said.
Twilight and spike went on their way flaming shield thought out loud." They seem nice enough to be friends with".
Of course as soon as they left spike started to think of rarity again. "Wasn't she beautiful".
"Focus Casanova. Whats next on the list". Twilight said with a annoyed tone.
"Music! It's the last thing one". Then out of nowhere a lovely musical song came on flowed through the air like water on a stone.
The music was caused by a group of birds that were being conducted by a Pegasus mare.
Her coat was a sunshine yellow and her hair was as pink as a flower. Her cutie Mark was three pink butterflies. Her voice was so quiet that of she had whispered you wouldn't be able to hear her.
"Hello". The pegasus jumped.
"Oh my I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to frighten your birds. I'm just hear to check up on the music and it sounded beautiful".
The Pegasus gently land on the ground and didn't say a word. Twilight flashed an awkward smile while her eyes darted sideways." I'm twilight sparkle. What's your name?Asked twilight.
The pegasus answered in a whisper.
"I'm sorry what was that"? Twilight asked.
Another whisper.
"I didn't quite catch that.
A whisper crossed with a whimper.
"Well it looks like your birds are back so I guess everything's in order. Keep up the good work.
Then the pegasus saw spike." A baby dragon!!! Oh I've never seen a baby dragon before! He's so cute"!
"Well well well". Spike was obviously liking the attention the pegasus was giving him.
" Oh he talks. I didn't know dragons could talk. That's so incredibly wonderful I just don't even know what to say".
Then twilight picked up spike with her magic. "Well in that case we better be going ".
"Wait what's his name"?
"I'm spike".
"Hi spike I'm fluttershy. Wow a talking dragon and what do dragons talk about"?
"We'll what do you want to know"?
"Absolutely everything".
"And that's everything that happened in my life until today. Do you want to hear about today"?
"Oh yes please".
Unfortunately for twilight they didn't get to golden oaks library until spikes story ended.
"I am so sorry but this is where I'm staying in Ponyville and my baby dragon needs his sleep". "No I don't". Twilight bucked spike off her back.
" Oh look at that he's so sleepy that he can't keep his balance".
"Poor thing you simply must go to bed". Fluttershy said with worry.
"Well goodnight". Twilight said as she slammed the door on fluttershy.
As they stepped inside it was pitch black.
"Sorry spike but but I need to convince the princess that Nightmare Moon is coming and we're running out of time I just need to be alone so I can study without some crazy ponies that are trying to make friends all the time. Now where's the light. Suddenly the light comes on and there is a full blown party in the library.
SURPRISE!!!
Then the pink pony from before comes over to twilight.
"Hi I'm pinkie pie and I threw this party just for you. Were you surprised? Were you? Huh huh"?
"Very surprised. Libraries are supposed to be quiet".
"We'll that's silly what kind of welcome party would be quiet? I mean duh boring. Well you see I thought when you first got hear remember you were all hello and I was all hhhuuuhhh. Remember? Because I never saw you before and if I never saw you before that would mean your new because I know everypony and I mean everypony in Ponyville and if you were new that meant you hadn't met anypony yet and if you hadn't met anypony yet you must not have many friends and if you don't have many friends that meant you were lonely and that made me super sad and then I had an idea and thats how I went hhuuhh. I'd just throw a great party and have it your welcome party and invite everypony in Ponyville.
While the party raced on into the night twilight tried to block out the noise with a pillow in her bedroom." Hey twilight pin the tail on the pony is starting. Want to play"?
"No, all the ponies in this town are crazy! Do you know what time it is"?!?
"It's the Summer Sun Celebration everypony has to stay up or they'll miss the princess raise the sun. You really should lighten up twilight. It's a party".
Twilight just mimiced spike in a child like tone. " Here I thought that I would have time to learn about the Elements of Harmony but silly me all this ridiculous friendmaking has kept me from it".
Twilight found herself staring at the moon where Nightmare Moon was imprisoned. "Legend has it that on the longest day on the thousandth year the stars would aid her escape that she would bring about everlasting night. I hope the princess was right".
The stars began to move into the Moon with each movement made it shine brighter.
"Come on twilight it's time to watch the sun rise". Everypony started to head to Carasol beautic.
After a conversation with pinkie pie fluttershy's birds started to sing. Then the spotlight fell on Mayor Mare.
" Fillies and gentlecolts as mayor of ponyville it is my great pleasure to announce the beginning of the Summer Sun Celebration! In just a few moments our town will witness the magic of the sunrise and celebrate this the longest day of the year. And now I introduce to you the ruler of our land the very pony who gives us the sun and the moon each and everyday. The good. The wise. The bringer of Harmony to all of Equestria. Princess Celestia.
And the curtain opened to reveal nobody?" This can't be good " twilight said.
"Keep calm everypony. There must be a explanation". Mayor Mare was trying to calm everypony down.
"Oh oh I love guessing games. Is she hiding?"
"She's gone"!
"Oh she's good".
Suddenly a purple mist appeared standing where princess Celestia would be standing.
The mist transformed into a black alicorn mare. She wore blue armour and her eyes were blue dragon ireses. Her cutie Mark was a blue moon surrounded by purple smoke. Her mane and tail were made out of the purple mist.
"Oh my little subjects it's been so long since I've seen your precious little sun loving faces.
"What did you do to our princess"?!? Rainbow dash demanded. She tried to charge at Nightmare Moon but luckily Applejack held her by the tail.
"Even after a thousand years you must know who i am"
"You're Nighmare moon". Replied twilight.
"Well well well. Somepony who remembers me. Then you also know why I'm here".
"Remember this day pathetic ponies for it will be your last. The night will last forever"!!!
Author's Note
Hello everypony this is my first fanfic so please give constructive criticism. Sorry that twilight's P.O.V was so long but most of the important story is in twilight's part of the story. I also added the part about the food being filled with love so thorax will be the first changling to give love. Although I do need ideas for the reveal of flaming shield. Flaming shield isnt my oc by the way.
