Equestria. A land abundant in magic. There are many realities where this country exists, some its history is very similar, while others very different. In this version of Equestria, the land is ruled by the forces of Harmony. Yet very so often, the forces of Chaos would converge upon the world, and each time, a group of six would be chosen, each bearing the principals of Honesty, Kindness, Laughter, Generosity, Loyalty, and Magic. These chosen would fight against the darkness, pushing it back for a time. This evil took on many forms, each one bringing doom to the world. But in the end, they were known as one group.

Warriors of Harmony

The fires spread all around, smoke rising into the air. The carnage was intense, an overflowing chaotic stream. Of course, that went hand in hand with the forces of Chaos. It had been that time again, when the forces of evil converged and had taken on many forms. Years ago it had taken on the form of Lord Tirek, the centaur who sought to take all of Equestria’s magic for himself. Luckily, a group of six had managed to halt his goals. Such was the chosen of Harmony, agents of the goddess. The soldiers of the nation, earth, pegasi, and unicorn alike ran about, fighting off the monstrosities that spread throughout the battlefield.

So far they had managed to breach the streets of Canterlot. Several were injured, some were dead. Mostly soldiers who gave their lives for their country. It pained her to force these brave ponies to fight on her behalf. But they didn’t just do it for their princess, they did it for Equestria.

Suddenly, another explosion rocked the area, several soldiers running back to avoid it. The fire in front of her took on a dark form, as sudden cracks appeared upon the forged earth. A shape began to move within the flames, large and imposing. Midst the flickers, a skeletal figure became all the more evident.

“Princess Luna.” It rasped in a low deathly tone.

The princess took on a firm glance, narrowing her eyes hatefully. “Lich.” She responded in kind.

The skeleton took no facial tone, for having no skin barred that. But Luna could tell the monster of inwardly grinning.

“Your forces are overwhelmed dear princess of the moon, you cannot escape our grasp.” Luna stood her ground, continuing to stare daggers at the Fiend of Earth. “Once we overwhelm Canterlot, we shall move onto the rest of Equestria, then beyond, and soon the entire sphere of Terra would fall before the might of Chaos!”

“You’re certainly overconfident Lich, just as the many other agents before you.” Stated Luna.

“Those fools were merely agents, mortals who heard Chaos’s call. I am born from Chaos itself! The exact antithesis of your wretched goddess! Each victory your warriors of Harmony brought only fueled the fire which granted me and my brethren life. You see, in the end, it was all for naught, you were only delaying the inevitable. And look where you are now, your chosen warriors old and decrepit, the elements refused to choose another set, and even your dear sister sealed her fate when she took matters into her own hooves.”

“Don’t you dare mention Celestia!” Luna’s look of hate grew all the more intense.

“Tell me, did you like doing what you did to your sister? I assume it was justice for you considering she dealt you no such a kinder fate.”

“My sister did what she had to, to protect Equestria!” Luna said, defending her sister’s honor.

“Yes, but even then you heard Chaos’s call, and I imagine it beckons to you even now.” An outstretched bony hand opened up in offering. “Don’t you want to join us dear sister of Chaos? Don’t you want to shed that form and take on your true self? Nightmare-”

“Enough!” Luna’s voice grew, delving deep into the Canterlot royal voice. “You may have won many battles, but you shall not win the war." Just then, several crystals floated in front of her, six in all. They were the shape of diamonds, their colors: red, blue, yellow, green, pink, and violet.

“The elements?” Lich said in confusion, but his voice hardly showing fear. “What good are they without their chosen?” He balked.

Suddenly, the elements glowed brightly, as did Luna’s horn. “You are so blinded by your sense of victory, that you fail to notice the chosen are here with us.”

Lich’s eyeless face could not see, but his magical senses picked up on something. “They have infused life forces?” The fiend’s jaw dropped slightly in surprise, but then snapped back up and laughter echoed out of him. “The fools! They actually sacrificed their lives for this! My word! When push comes to shove, you ponies will do anything to win! In the end you are the same as us!”

Luna said nothing, but continued to channel her magic through the elements. They glowed even brighter, blinding the field as it overtook the flames. Soon the light they produced banished away the flames, coating Lich in a rainbow colored hue.

“By the power of the goddess Cosmos! I hereby banish you to the depths! Go back to whence you came you spawn of evil!” Luna’s voice grew into the royal voice, her eyes glowing white as light.

Then in a sudden burst, the light fully overtook Lich’s form, yet even then, he did not scream, nor curse, instead, he simply laughed.

“Foolish pony, delaying the inevitable as always.” And then, the light around him died, and he was gone.

The light continued to grow, spreading everywhere and over everything and everypony. The elements took on the full force of the light, and then, they started to crack, and soon, they shattered, which brought the rainbow light to it’s zenith. It took no longer, and the light quickly died down. Everypony present halted what they were doing, some momentarily confused why the fighting had stopped. Then, they noticed something peculiar. It was snowing? No, it wasn’t white, nor even the season, but instead, glowing fragments of light showering down upon the earth. Once the reality hit them, everyone broke into cheers. Immediately they scrambled towards the injured, attending to any who needed it. But the one who felt the victory the most was the princess herself.

Luna knelt down as she felt fatigue hit her. But she felt at peace, for she did not sense Lich, or even the energies of the other Fiends. They had won, though it had come at a cost.

“Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, even you dear sister Celestia, your sacrifices have not been in vain.”

“Princess Luna!”

Luna looked up to see a lone soldier running towards her. The pony was a unicorn, clad head to hoof in gold and silver armor, his cutie mark obscured. Luna looked to him, managing herself up as her energy regained itself.

In comparison to her subjects, Luna looked very different. First off, she towered over them, looking very much to a horse of another parallel world. Her coat a dark blue, her mane a shining sapphire shade that shimmered in the light. Her cutie mark was a black patch, the image of a crescent moon depicted upon it. Around her chest was a piece of black armor, emblazon with her cutie mark. A black tiara hung upon her head, crowning her horn. By the horn alone, she would be considered a unicorn. But, a pair of wings outstretched upon her back. This denoted her as an alicorn, a breed reserved for the title of princess. But another feature, not her light blue eyes, gave her most defining feature: a swollen belly.

Now being a larger creature than her subjects, Luna’s food intake was much higher. Her sister and her love of cake was testament to that. But it wasn’t the result of a large meal, or even an excessive amount of body fat, but instead filled with life.

“Commander? What is your report?” Luna asked, her immediate concern towards her subjects.

“It appears all of the Fiend’s forces have dispersed within Canterlot, I can’t say for the rest of Equestria.”

“Focus on the repairs, and then see if you can get in communication with the rest of the country.” Ordered Luna.

The commander saluted, “As you wish your highness.”

Luna stared out, though the battle was over, the scars were evident. It would take time to banish away the memories, the losses, the sacrifices. For Luna, the latter would take even longer.

“Excuse me princess, forgive me for being so bold, but are you certain it was wise to fight in your condition?” The commander hesitantly asked.

Luna felt a soft chuckle jump out of her. “Your concern is noted captain, but this child is resilient.” Beaming down, she could feel the flutter kick within her, and it brought a smile to her face. “Just like his father.” she said with notable sadness. Her sister and chosen hadn’t been the only things lost because of the war.

She knew it was a boy, the doctors had said so. A son, her prince. Honestly she hadn’t expected to ever have a child. Frankly she felt romance was more of Celestia’s thing. Luna knew that she wasn’t exactly the easiest pony to get along with. A certain Nightmare Night debacle showed her that. Sure she had lightened up and joined in the festivities, but she had one thousand years of catching up to blame for that. But it had happened. Though, she knew that some wouldn’t view this blessed event as an occasion for celebration. Especially among the Equestria elite. But they could keep their opinions to themselves. Her child’s legitimacy, or lack there of would not change her feelings towards it, or make it any less royalty.

“Princess? Might I suggest you rest in your chambers? We’ll handle the rest.” The commander said concernedly.

“Thank you, that sounds like a good idea.” Luna agreed.

The commander went back to his men, while Luna stared up at the palace. It had received some damage, but nothing that couldn’t be repaired. Though it was only one of many for the rest of the land. Nevertheless, ponykind would rebuild, and in time, this would only become a distant bad memory. Whatever she would face in the future, she knew she would continue to rule Equestria in her sister’s stead, and she would make this world safe for her child, to teach him all he needed to know.

And so, the princess walked off, to be with herself, and to ponder the future.

Author's Note

Okay. Time for a little story. A while back I wrote a Final Fantasy crossover with MLP, and was very proud of it. Unfortunently, only one person was reading it. And honestly after seven chapters with only 11 likes I became disappointed. In fact it started to make me think that I was being typecast because I wrote a popular fluff story a while back. And to be honest, I was only writing the Final Fantasy fic in the hopes of making it more popular than my fluff story (which I hate to this day). Then I realized I was writing it for the wrong reasons. That and the latest chapter I was working on was lost when my old computer broke down. So I scrapped that story and decided to reboot it. Mainly because this time I wanted to write a story for the right reasons and because I think I did a lot of things wrong in the last story which probably turned a lot of people off of it.

Well, I guess I will see how this one goes. I guess what happened before is I tried to aim too high, and when it didn't hit it off, it demoralized me. Well. Let's go for round two shall we?

Special thanks goes to my Beta Reader Grahf, as he helped edit this down and pointed out several errors I have made.
