The Great And Powerful Question
Sunset groaned as she approached her locker, her inhumanly heavy feet trudging along the ground as if she were wading through frozen molasses. It had been almost a week since the Battle of the Bands, and Rainbow Dash had just wanted to keep celebrating their victory over, and over, and over again. The other members of the Rainbooms had done nothing to curb the overly excited girl’s enthusiasm, but it’s not like she could say no to their get-togethers; after all, she was the hero of the hour, and she seemed to have finally cleared her name of any past actions.
She paused in front of the locker that looked like every other, save for the beaten up, second hand lock that dangled in it, securing it shut. Obviously not well enough, as upon opening it, another small tide of envelopes and folded up pieces of paper streamed to the floor.
“Great… More stuff to clean up…” she groaned as she set her rickety binder haphazardly into her locker before bending down and reaching towards the pile of paper. She had gained a lot of attention since that day, some going well passed what she wanted- proposing lustful desires and elicit thoughts. It was odd to get one just saying thank you, but that was all she wanted to hear; not someone’s deviant desires.
Sunset paused as she grabbed the last envelope, a fancy blue looking colour. “Huh, that’s weird.” she muttered as she reached to grab it, pausing as she picked it up, her head recoiling. “Wow, why is it so hefty?”
She stuffed all the paperwork into her locker before flipping the envelope over to look at the front. Scrawling text said simply, “Open Me”. She shrugged as she once more reversed the facing as she started to open it, an action she soon regretted, as with a loud “Bang!”, followed by many a “Crack!”, a collection of dazzling lights erupted in front of her which caused her to rear back, flailing her arms with a startled cry.
“What the hell was that!?” she shouted as everybody in the hall turned towards her, a faint hint of giggling sifting through the air. She looked down at the somewhat charred remains of the envelope, grabbing it and slowly fishing out the half burnt piece of paper stored inside. Gingerly, taking great care to not further destroy the letter, Sunset unfolded the paper, attempting to read the scrawling, familiar writing upon it.

She sighed as she stuffed the letter into her locker with the rest of them, grabbing her backpack before securing the lock. This was one she couldn’t ignore, but it’s not like she actually wanted to deal with this right now. So with just as tired of a stride as before, Sunset turned back into the hallway, joining in with the rest of the sea of half dead students.
“Hey, Sunset!” someone called out, the Equestrian automatically raising her head in the direction of the voice and returning the wave with one of her own in a robotic fashion. Sunset was glad she was in better standing with the school, but she never expected how tiring it would be to be popular in a positive connotation.
She jerked to a stop as she suddenly realized where she was, the flicking of the lights catching her attention. Memories flooded through her, all the shady dealings she had done in this very hallway, she had even attempted to intimidate Princess Twilight here. She shook her head, banishing the unpleasant reminders of her past, instead focusing her eyes on studying the hall, only to give an exasperated sigh when she saw a large, floppy hat sticking out from behind some of the lockers.
“Come on, Trixie, I know it was you!” she shouted, the hat suddenly shifting around before a blinding flash of light and puff of smoke exploded at the far end of the hall, frenzied footsteps filling the air as the amber girl tried to clear her vision.
“Behold!” came the bombastic cry of the school’s resident wannabe magician. “It is I! The Great and Powerful… Trixie!”
Sunset rolled her eyes and chuckled at the usual overly dramatic performance of the girl. Most of the student body found Trixie to be annoying, in part of her preference for addressing herself in the third person, but mainly due to her haughty, greater than thou attitude. The common sentiment people had was that she let her chest size go to her head, and indeed while Trixie was one of the bustiest girls in the school- Sunset holding the crown for size- she was a lot less forceful about her size than some of the other girls. Even when she was evil, Sunset never made a point to emphasize herself as being better because of her body shape.
“Yes, Trixie. Like I said, I knew it was you.” she shifted her stance as she looked down at the shorter girl. Trixie may be slightly taller than the average girl, but Sunset was noticeably taller than the average guy. She had been bigger as well back in Equestria, so perhaps there might be a connection? “What did you want to see me about?”
Sunset was surprised as just how timid the other girl suddenly started acting, awkwardly shuffling her feet as she adjusted hat. She even stood there and took a few deep breaths as Sunset stood silently waiting.
“Well?”
“R-R-Right! U-Uh… T-The Great and Powerful- N-No, no, the Humble and Remorseful Trixie would like to apologize for her actions during the Battle of the Bands.” the girl eventually managed to get out, verbally tripping over herself multiple times.
Sunset shrugged in boredom. “Um, okay? I mean, pretty much everybody was affected by the Sirens, so no worries.” she paused, her brow furrowing as she studied the other girl. This was extremely out of character for Trixie, it even looked as if she was sweating as tried to force a smile. “What’s up, Trixie? You feeling alright?”
A fiery blush exploded across the cheeks of the blue girl at Sunset’s question, her eyes widening. This caused Sunset to take a step back in surprise. “T-Trixie is perfectly fine!” she stammered as her blush grew, further confusing the Equestrian girl.
“For someone who wants to be a stage magician, you sure are bad at keeping things under wraps.” Sunset said as she watched Trixie spin around to face away from Sunset, pulling the brim of her hat down low with both hands as her body shook slightly. “So what’s up? You can tell me, I mean, it’s just the two of us here.”
“...” Trixie mumbled something as she remained looking away from Sunset, the quiet words unable to be deciphered.
“Come again?” Sunset asked gently as she took a few steps forward, closing the distance between the two of them.
“Trixie said that’s the problem!” the magician spun around as she shouted, only to realize that Sunset was now chest to face with Trixie. This caused her blush to fully return, overtaking her entire face as it bounced off Sunset’s bust, here eyes widening comically as she took a half step back.
“O-Oops! Sorry, Trixie!” Sunset tried to apologize, her hands shooting up, palms towards the blue hued girl as Trixie shut her eyes, taking multiple deep breaths. “What did you mean that the two of us being alone was-”
“Please go out with Trixie!”
“-the… problem…?” Sunset felt the air grow heavy at the shaking, heavily blushing girl’s shout. Her breath halted in her lungs as she looked down towards her schoolmate in shocked confusion. “S-Say what…?”
“P-Please go out with T-Trixie…” Trixie stuttered again, her eyes clenching further shut as she grabbed the brim of her hat, pulling it down over her deepening blush.
Everything seemed to freeze in place as Sunset stood there, mind racing as she tried to understand what had just happened. Trixie Lulamoon, the loudest, most bombastic girl in the school if not the city, had just asked Sunset to go out with her, in the most timid, unsure manner, as if she were more like Fluttershy than Rainbow Dash.
“Ummm… Okay, where’s the cameras?” Sunset chuckled uneasily, bringing her hand up to scratch the back of her head as she looked around. Obviously she was being pranked right now!
Trixie’s shaking slowly changed as Sunset continued to chuckle and look around, her brim hiding her face from Sunset’s gaze. Instead of her whole body quivering, now it was centered entirely in her chest, as a harsh breath escaped her lips. Sunset looked back just in time to see one hand leave Trixie’s hat and move to her face, as a second cough left the girl.
“U-Umm… T-Trixie?” Sunset took a half step forward, hand tentatively reaching out towards the magician, only to be swatted away as Trixie started to try to shuffle past Sunset, eyes locked on the ground.
“T-Trixie should have known that you’d say no…” she muttered as she walked down the hall, Sunset freezing when she saw a tear fall to the floor from the girl’s chin. “The Stupid and Foolish Trixie should have left well enough alone…”
Sunset bit her lip as she watched Trixie slowly make her way down the hall, more noticeable sobbing filling the air the farther she got. Was Trixie really trying to ask her out?
“Trixie, wait!” Sunset leapt towards the crying girl, grabbing one of her wrists and stopping her.
“Let go!” she screamed, trying to free herself from Sunset’s strong hold. “Let Trixie go!”
“Please! I’m sorry for not taking you seriously, Trixie!” Sunset apologized profusely as she held the girl, trying to pull her around to face her.
“Of course you didn’t! Nobody ever takes Trixie seriously!” Trixie continued to struggle to get free from Sunset, resisting every attempt by the taller girl to turn her around.
“I know, and I’m sorry. I was just surprised, that’s all.” Sunset gave a weak smile as she let go of the girl’s wrist, the hand falling limply to the side of the sniffling girl. “I mean, we’ve always butted heads, ya know? You always hated my guts and did your best to antagonize... me… Wait a second…”
Trixie slowly turned to face Sunset, a shaking hand wiping away the tears streaming from her red, puffy eyes as she gave a strangled sounding sniffle. “What…?”
“Are you the kind of girl to pick on the person she likes?” Trixie’s eyes shot wide open as her body instantly stopped shaking, straightening to her full height as the ruddiness of her cheeks shifted back to a cherry red blush.
“O-Oh would you look at the time! Trixie must get home so she can practice pulling, uh… hats out of… r-rabbits?” it was the blushing girl’s turn to chuckle uneasily as she started to back away, only for Sunset to grab her by both hands.
“Trixieee…” Sunset pulled the girl closer, smile growing wider. “Tell me the truth.”
“F-Fine! Tr-Trixie likes you, Sunset!” the girl spun away as much as she could, pouting and refusing to look at the taller student.
“And you want to go out with me?” teased the larger girl, causing Trixie to grumble in annoyance as she nodded her head. “Well why do you want me of all people then?”
“Because you’re confident, people listen to you- regardless of your alignment.” Sunset couldn’t help but laugh brutal honesty of the girl’s jab, almost loud enough to miss what Trixie mumbled next. “Plus Trixie thinks you’re really pretty.”
“Well, why not.” Trixie seemed to perk up at Sunset’s remark, a warm smile spreading across her amber features. “I can’t deny that you aren’t attractive yourself, but you should know that’s not all that I’m looking for in a relationship.”
“Trixie accepts your offer!” the girl beamed, a wide smile spreading across her face, tears of happiness started to build in the corner of her eyes as she looked up at Sunset. A moment later she tore free from the Equestrian’s hold, jumping and hollering in joy as she bounced around the hall.
“You shall be the Great and Powerful Trixie’s Great and Powerful girlfriend!” she exclaimed as she spun to address Sunset, pointing a finger at the girl who simply smiled, laughed, and nodded.
“Alright, Trixie. I’ll be your girlfriend, but don’t you think it’s weird that I’d have the same nickname as you?” the Equestrian leaned back against one of the lockers, smirking down at her new potential girlfriend.
“Huh?” Trixie’s head tilted in almost an adorable of a manner as the look that spread over her face.
“Well you’re the Great and Powerful, so what if I was… Ah!, I’ll be the Extravagant and Magical Sunset Shimmer?” Sunset smirked as she withdrew her hand from her chin, only to watch as Trixie silently judged her.
“...Leave the title-making to Trixie, dear…” was the eventual and emotionless response.
“H-Hey! It’s not that bad!” Sunset stuttered in amazement at the incredibly judgemental opinion of her idea.
“...”
“Trixie!”
“Um…” Trixie looked around awkwardly. “W-What now?”
“What do you mean?” inquired Sunset as she walked over to the girl.
“W-Well… P-Please don’t judge her, but Trixie’s never had a girlfriend before- O-O-Or a boyfriend.” that adorable blush returned to the blue girl’s face as she stumbled over her words as Sunset drew in close. “S-So Trixie has no idea of what to do now.”
“Well seeing as I’m the more experienced one here, let’s just take it slowly, okay?” the amber girl suggested as she reached forward and moved one of the many errant strands of Trixie’s hair out of her face, the girl seeming ready to faint at the contact as she nodded slowly. “Okay, so I can’t exactly hang out tonight, I have a project I need to finish, but why don’t we exchange phone numbers? That way you can contact me whenever you need to.”
The pair brought out their phones, Sunset trying her best not to be embarrassed by her second hand smartphone she had. They quickly exchanged numbers, Trixie being incredibly awkward the entire time while Sunset giggled internally. “Well, why don’t we walk out together then?” Sunset asked as she grabbed Trixie by the hand, a surprised look coming to the magician’s face as she glanced down at her hand, then back up at Sunset with wide eyes.
Before said wide eyes rolled up into the back of her head as the girl fainted with a happy squeal.
