Applejack looked back at the her old home, Sweet Apple Acres, for the last time and sighed, "Ah can't believe it came to this, if only it didn't go so wrong." That year Sweet Apple Acres experienced the driest year in 1000 moons. All the apples the trees produced were dry and tasteless, now nopony wanted to eat apples. It was all about plums and grapes now. With no profit being made, the Apple Family had to give away their home due to debt.
Sadly, in the middle of the year, Granny Smith passed away. It was during her sleep so she had a peaceful death. The ceremony was private and peaceful, with only close friends and family attending. Since they had to leave, the Apples decided on a plan. Send Applebloom to live with Rarity, while Applejack and Big Mac found jobs.
Pinkie through a goodbye party for the Apple Family, but really no ones' heart was in, especially Twilight's. Applejack didn't know why. Her relationship with Twilight wasn't anything really special... Well, apart from her crush but AJ shuddered at the the thought. "Ah shouldn't think of mah friends like that, especially not now."
As she walked to Mayor Mare's office, she was filled with so many memories of her time in Ponyville. Like when the six first met or when they first fought Discord. Good times. She appeared in front of the office and hesitantly knocked. After a silent five seconds the door opened
"COME IN!" A voice shouted. It was Mayor Mare stuck under a bunch of paperwork. "Oh, hi Applejack!" She said. "Could you get these stacks of paper of me? I think I'm starting to lose air!" Applejack lifted the paperwork of her and sat down on the chair. "Okay Applejack, I guess you're here to give the keys to your land?"
Applejack sighed sadly. "Yes, yes Ah am..."
A rush of sympathy filled Mayor Mare as she said "Look, Applejack, I'm sorry this happened, all of this. If there's anything I can do for you, you just need to ask."
With a worn down look, Applejack responded with, "Ah know, Ah know. If you don't mind now, Ah need to go say bye to Applebloom."
"Yes, of course."
With that Applejack left the room, doing her best to hold back tears. But back in the office she heard Mayor Mare saying,
"I'm sorry Applejack."
Twilight started sweating. "What do I do? What do I do?!" She was in her castle, in front of her chalkboard. "I don't have any ideas on how to make Applejack stay! SPIKE!!!" At that Spike entered the room lazily and rubbed his eyes.
"What now, Twilight?" This was actually the third time she woke him up today.
"Send an urgent letter to the girls, apart from Applejack. Dear-"
"Already done," he said as the last wipers of his fire faded away.
"Wait, what? How?!" She asked.
"I always have the 'Twilight Sparkle Emergency' letter with me. Now if you don't mind..." Spike than walked out of the room with a very audible sigh.
15 minutes later...
Rainbow Dash charged through the doors full force leaving open a room, with Twilight hyperventilating in the middle of it. Next to Twilight there was a large mug full of cold coffee, so naturally Rainbow Dash immediately flew towards it and spilled all that good, delicious coffee all over Twilight's head. "Snap out of it Twilight!" Rainbow shouted in her usual raspy voice.
"Wuh? Where am I? Oh, wait. Don't tell me I was Sparkling," Twilight said regaining her consciousness.
"Yes, Twilight, you were. Also, mind telling me why you dragged me out of Fluttershy's bed?" Rainbow asked.
"Wait, what?"
"Uuh... nothing..." Rainbow responded. "But you haven't answered my question!"
"I'll answer it when the rest of the girls arrive." Suddenly the rest of the mane 6, not including Applejack, appeared. "Speak of the devils," muttered Twilight.
As the three entered the room, Twilight noticed subtle differences in the rest of the girls. Fluttershy looked the most normal with only her hair being everywhere. Where as the likes of Pinkie looked completely different, with her hair being much larger and floofier than normal, her face covered with icing and the rest of her body drowned in flour. Last but by far not the least was Rarity, who usually looked elegant and pristine but at the moment, she looked as though she had eaten ten pounds worth of Poison Joke flowers. Then she looked up at Rainbow Dash and noticed that her hair was an absolute mess... Well, more of a mess than usual.
"Girls, what in Celestia's mane happened to you?" Twilight asked, analysing the mess of her friends.
"NOTHING!" Dashie, Rarity and Fluttershy shouted in unison.
Then Pinkie started talking "Well... THECAKESASKEDMETOLOOKAFTERPOUNDANDPUMPKINBUTTHENWHENTHEYLEFTPOUNDSAIDTHATTHEYWEREHUNGRYANDIWASLIKEWHOAMITOTELLTHEMWHATTODOBUTTHENTHETWINSFLEWEVERYWHEREANDSTARTEDCASTINGMAGICANDTHENTHEINGREDIENTSWENTEVEYWHEREANDTHENIGOTTHELETTERFROMSPIKEANDTHENICAMEHEREANDOMGIJUSTREALISDEILEFTABUNCHOFCHILDRENLEFTUNATTENDEDNEXTTOANOVEN... GOODBYE!!!!!!!!!" Pinkie then disappeared.
...
"Well... that was interesting," Twilight said breaking the silence.
"Ok darling, why did you ask for us? It's the middle of the night." Rarity finally asked.
"You know that Applejack's going to Manehatten, right? Well, I need your ideas on how to get Applejack to stay here in Ponyville!" Twilight exclaimed. As Twilight was saying this, Rarity could sense something looking inside of Twilight's eyes, something that could make even Celestia nervous.
"Oh Twilight, you poor mare," said Fluttershy as she flew over to Twilight, and then Rarity followed suit. "There, there, Twilight, there, there."
"Hey, why has everypony just randomly started hugging Twilight?!" Rainbow shouted. 'I want some hugs,' she thought to herself.
"Oh, Rainbow you don't understand?" responded Fluttershy. "Twilight here, has a crush on Applejack."
"Oh... okay."
Twilight then began sobbing. "I just don't know what to do! I don't want her to go! Please help me!" All of Twilights worries, all of her panic attacks, they were nothing compared to this.
"Twilight dear, look into my eyes and listen to me!" Rarity pulled Twilight's face to look at hers. "Tomorrow, go to Applejack and you tell her how you feel, maybe then she will stay."
As Twilight sniffled and the last of her tears were dropped she said "O-Okay."
The next day...
Applejack stepped out of the inn, just after having her last breakfast in Ponyville. Her luggage was completely packed, her goodbyes were said and all that was left now was to go to the train station and start her new life in Manehattan. As she walked she thought about all of the journeys she'll miss. 'Who knows, they might even get a new Element of Honesty,' Applejack thought to herself.
She looked down to one of her bags, her last gift to Ponyville. As she went up a to the top of a hill that was on the way to the station, so she could get one last view of Ponyville, she heard someone call her name.
"APPLEJACK!! WAIT!" As Applejack turned around, she could see Twilight. "Applejack, p-please, please don't go!" she said as she gasped for air.
"Ah'm sorry, Sugarcube, but Ah've got to," AJ responded, not sure how to react. She was not expecting this.
Twilight smiled, it was now or never. "Heh, I love it when you do that."
"Do what, Sugarcube?" Applejack gave her old friend a puzzled look.
"That! When you call me sugarcube, it just brightens my entire day! And you know what, I love it when you act like that. When you act like you don't have time for feelings but really, inside, you have a whole rainbow of emotions!"
"What are you sayin', Sugarcube?" asked Applejack shocked in absolute happiness and sadness.
"You don't understand, Applejack? I love you!"
AJ's heart skipped a beat. 'Why did she have to tell me today!' W-Well, Ah, umm... Ah love ya too, Sugarcube." And with that, Applejack leaned in for the kiss. The kiss that took them away through their memories. When they first met, when they first fought together, when they lost together and when they won together.
"So, when did ya find out?" asked Applejack breaking free from the kiss.
"That I liked you? I guess it was when you rescued me from falling when we were heading towards Nightmare Moon. You would be my knight in sunlit armour and I would be your moonlit damsel. What about you?" Twilight asked.
"The very moment Ah laid eyes on you," AJ flirted.
"Do you still have to go though, AJ?"
Applejack's face darkened. "Sugarcube, Ah have too. For mah family. But Ah swear in mah honour, Ah'll be back."
"I'll miss you so much." Tears began to form in the corners of Twilight's eyes.
"I'll miss you too, but here let me give you some gifts, Sugarcube." She said with a smile. "Here, Ah want you t'uh have mah hat, for you t'uh remember."
As AJ handed it over, Twilight said "Oh Applejack... Don't worry, I'll always remember you!" She put the hat on her head and smiled. "Wow, it fits perfectly!"
"Secondly, is this seed." AJ pulled a small seed out of her bag. "It's called a Menoa seed. It'll fully grow in about 2 years and when it does, it'll be beautiful. Just like you."
"Thank you, Applejack!" And then the crying came to full force and she leaned for a hug. "I'll miss you."
"Come on, Sugarcube, ya know Ah'll come back."
"I-I know," Responded Twilight.
Applejack wiped the tears from her love's eyes. Then in the distance, she could hear the train booming.
"Well... looks like Ah have t'uh go now." She gave Twilight a final kiss on the forehead and finally left her old life behind.
"Bye Jackie." Twilight said weakly
As the train departed Twilight finally gave in, she fell to the ground, sobbing loudly as the tears flowed freely down her face.
2 years later..
Twilight looked at Ponyville, this small town had truly grown over the last two years. Rainbow and Fluttershy finally came out about their relationship, Rarity now owned over eight stores across Equestria and Pinkie actually got married to, surprising nobody, Cheese Sandwich!
The one thing that didn't change was Twilight's love for Applejack. She would sometimes get letters from Applejack, talking about her time in Manehattan. Applejack was staying with her Aunt Orange whilst working in the construction industry.
Twilight missed Applejack, every day she would think to herself, 'Is this the day, that she'll finally come back?' but sadly, her wishes never came true. She never forgot Applejack. She always kept Jackies hat on her head, no matter the occasion.
Twilight looked at the Menoa tree, everyday she watered it and cared for it, so when AJ finally returns to Ponyville, she could see its true beauty. The tree was similar to Twilight's castle except the Menoa Tree was... more tree-like? Twilight had decided to plant it on the hill where Twilight said goodbye to AJ.
As Twilight headed to the Menoa tree she saw a couple of Royal Guards head towards her. "Princess Twilight Sparkle?" One of the guards asked.
Twilight nodded. "How may I help you today?"
"I ,Solid Shield, am distraught to report that Applejack was very recently murdered during her sleep. The killer was caught and was sent to the Badlands, where he will face further punishment," informed Solid.
Twilight was mortified. Her first and true love had died. Crestfallen, Twilight flew away full force towards the Menoa tree.
'This can't be! No... she promised!' she thought in her head,
She reached the Menoa tree and slumped against it, sobbing hard. "Why Jackie, why did you have to die? Why did you leave me?!" she screamed painfully.
A cold but comforting hoof touched Twilight. "Ah'm always gonna be with you, Sugarcube." It was Applejack, just... more transparent.
Twilight gasped at the sight of her. "Applejack, I missed you!" She told her love. "Promise you'll stay with me, Applejack. Forever." She leaned against the apparition as the rest of the day went by.
