Hunt For The Faceless King

As I was about to head into the arena, I heard a familiar voice followed by foot steps rushing from behind me. Turning around, I saw Taiga rushing over towards me only for her to fall face first in front of me and Saber who appeared beside me and began to laugh. I couldn’t help but wince from the pain she felt from a fall like that and quickly walked over to help her up.

“Twilight, thank god I found you! I need your help! It’s an emergency! Do you think you could help me out?” She asked and I nodded. She did help us in the last round, so I couldn’t really say no to her asking for help. “You’re a god sent angel! Well, a persimmon that a friend gave me as a gift somehow got sent to the arena by mistake...But I don’t know whose Arena it was sent to. So I’m throwing up the Taiga Signal to all students. So, do you think you could help me out by searching your Arena?”

“Sure, that shouldn’t be a problem.”

“Thanks, you're a lifesaver. It’ll be two days before it gets reported as a system error, so please get it before then.” I looked over Saber who nodded before disappearing as we made our way into the arena.

[Arena]

“So care to explain why we’re here again?” Saber asked as she appeared beside me. “I know we’re here for that teacher’s persimmon, but what else are we here for?”

“We need to find some information on Dan’s servant. Mainly something that his servant left behind so I can bring it to Rani. The first place we should search would be where that tree was that produced the poison.”

“You think there might be something there?”

“It’s better to check. After all, you have possibly the smartest pony as your master.” I said before noticing a deadpan expression on her face. “What? I’ve gotten us this far right?”

“I wouldn’t say you’re the smartest. But seeing how you’re a new species, I guess that would make you the smartest of your kind...just not on human levels of smartness.”

“...You just can’t let me have my moment can you?”

“Can’t let you have a big head. Less you end up like Shinji.” She said before taking the lead into the arena. I soon followed after her while keeping my eyes on our surroundings, which didn’t seem like much seeing how Saber sliced and diced her way through the enemy programs. As we made our way through the first section of the arena. I noticed something shiny off in the area that the poison tree was placed. I quickly walked over to it while Saber was busy killing off another enemy program to see if there was anything left behind by Dan’s servant.

“This is the place alright.” I said while carefully looking around the place where the tree used to be in. While looking, I soon notice something giving off a dull flash. Looking down I picked up what appears to be an arrowhead that belongs to an arrow. The source of the barrier, the remains of the arrow. The arrowhead in my hands looks antique.

“Not a bad find, egghead. If we look into this, we will be closer to uncovering his identity.”

“There may be something more that Dan’s Servant left behind. We should keep looking around.” I said before seeing Saber take the lead towards the other room of the arena and quickly followed after her. “H-Hey! Wait up!” Once we got to the second room of the area, my eyes caught something glowing off to the side. Looking over I squinted my eyes to see that there was a rod laying off to the left corner of the room. From what I can tell, it looks like the shaft part to the arrowhead I found. “Looks like we found another bit of proof left by Dan’s servant.” Just as I was about to take a step forward, Saber placed a hand in front of me causing me to stop as I saw an enemy program appear in front of us.

“Just a reminder, do not walk full heartedly into an area that has programs appearing out of nowhere.” Saber said as she quickly charged at the enemy program. Once close, the program turned its attention towards Saber as it lunged at her in an attempt to bite her. Saber quickly moved to the side to avoid the program’s bite, as she quickly drove her sword into its side. Once the blade is impaled inside the program, crimson color lightning erupted from it as it soon exploded into bits of data. “Ha! This is way too easy.”

“To be fair, you do have the strength of a berserker class servant. But I’m not complaining. It makes things much easier for us to make our way through the arena to get what we need.” I said before picking up the shaft part of the broken arrow. “There may be something more than just the two pieces that we found.”

“Seriously? Isn't just those two good enough?” Saber asked as I shook my head.

“I have a feeling that there’s one more piece that we might miss. I prefer not to go back to Rani and not have the materials needed for her to read Dan Blackmore’s star.”

“So she’s an astrologist. I can see why you’d accept her help. But what’s in it for her?”

“Don’t know. Other than wanting to know who or what I am...She finds me rather interesting given my pony like appearance.” I said before placing the shaft into my pocket and began to make my way into the next area of the arena with Saber next to me.

“Well, looks like you’re just a magnet for people that might find you interesting. Though at least this time, they didn’t place their hands on your face like Rin did that one time.”

“Don’t remind me. It was weird...yet oddly nice.” I said as I noticed Saber raising an eyebrow at me. “D-Don’t get any ideas! I-I just never knew humans have very soft hands, that’s all!”

“Hey, I’m not one to judge...but do expect me to tease you for your weird human hand fetish~” Saber said before taking the lead once again as I glared daggers at her from behind.

“I do not have a weird fetish! What’s the matter with feeling a comfortable sensation of having soft hands touch your face like that!?”

“Oh nothing...if you’re into that weird stuff like that...weirdo~”

“....I hate you so much right now.” I said as Saber looked behind me with a smug grin on her face.

“Love you too egghead~” ….Mental note, find a way to make her pay for this...at any cost. As we entered the last section of the arena, I noticed the same dull light off in the distance. Squinting my eyes once again, I see a magnificent feather. It must be related to the poison barrier that the Servant left. Without a second thought, I quickly rushed over to where the feather was located. When I look down, I see a magnificent feather.

“Haha! Another clue to our mysterious servant.” I said as I picked up the feather carefully and placed it into my pocket for safe keeping. So far I think that’s everything I need to get from here for Rani to help us. All we have to do is wait for the appointed time to go to her to study the stars of Dan Blackmore. “Only thing left to do is get Taiga’s persimmon, and we can call it a day.”

“Still makes you wonder how Taiga’s friend could mistakenly send an item into the arena. I mean, I don’t know much about digital stuff. But wouldn’t it seem less time consuming to give said item to them in person?”

“True, but you have to take into account if the pon...person might be someplace else.”

“Nice recovery, but where else would said person be? Especially seeing how we’re stuck in a school?”

“Um...maybe on the other side of the world we’re in?” I said as Saber gave me a deadpan expression along with a raised eyebrow. “Don’t give me that look. You can’t expect me to have all the answers.”

“Well you are into the whole learning stuff. So….yeah.”

“You shouldn’t assume something like that. Granted I’m smart, but bare in mind that a lot of my memories are gone.” I said before motioning for her to follow me through the arena while I keep an eye for the persimmon.

“Anything new besides what you told me this morning?”

“No, nothing else happened to me during that time… But at least I’m getting some of my memories back...I think.”

“Still weird that you’re getting them back either due to encountering an item from a master or servant. But that might be a good thing to some degree. Though we might not want to have you get hurt by them.”

“Hm. We’ll have to test that theory out next time, but for now let's focus on getting those persimmon.” I said before seeing a digital box in front of us. “There it is. That has to be the item we’re looking for.”

“Yeah, shame it’s being blocked by a monster.” Saber said as I squinted my eyes to see the same monster from before. “And it’s the same monster that I fought before.”

“Think you’ll be able to take it out without a problem-” Before I could finish, Saber quickly vanished from beside me with her sword raised above her. Once she was in front of the enemy program, her sword soon was coated in a crimson color like energy as she brought it down onto the program. The impact caused an explosion as she forced me to stumble backwards from the force behind her attack. “Could’ve given me a warning that you would do something like that!?”

“Sorry, couldn’t risk the opportunity to surprise attack it!” She yelled while laughing. “Stupid thing didn’t see it coming.” I rolled my eyes to her comment as I pulled myself up and brushed the dust off. As I did that, I looked over at Saber who opened the box. Once it was open, a box of persimmons appeared floating next to her as we both blinked in surprise by this. “Um...didn’t she say that it was just a persimmon? Not a box of them?”

“Perhaps she wasn’t clear on what her friend sent her. But, we got the item that we need.” I said before walking over and collecting the box. Upon getting it, the size of the giant box shrunk into the side of an apple and placed it into my pocket. “Lets head back. I think we’re done for today.”

“About time. I was beginning to think that we'd have to keep looking around more for anything else. Which was pretty much the boring part of this little adventure.”

“Hey, gathering information can be fun. I mean look at what we got so far. Charging into battle without a plan may work for some people, but given how we’re facing people with the same intelligence as my kind. We’re going to need some means of an advantage.” I said before moving past Saber and began to walk towards the exit of the arena. “Why don’t we stop by the church early in the morning so we can power you up if it makes you feel better.”

“It's a weird feeling whenever we go there and have them mess around with my body like that. Not in a bad kind of weird, but strangely comfortable when you’re behind the ropes doing it.”

“Aw, you really do like me~” I said before feeling Saber bonk me on the head with the flat of her sword. “Ow! What was that for?”

“Just keep going egghead.” She said as I stuck my tongue out at her as we left the arena for today. We got the materials needed for Rani to read the stars with. Now all we have to do is just survive long enough to get the information we need on Dan and his servant...I’m hoping this will workout well.
