It was pretty obvious when he woke up in the middle of the night- too early for him, he might add- and the light was still on downstairs. As he walked down the stairs, he heard zapping sounds. That in itself was pretty weird, but then he jumped back. A bolt of magic had zipped by him, almost hitting him. Spike sighed, and facepalmed. "Twilight?! What are you doing?!" he shouted. "Why are you up this early?" "Oh, hi, Spike!" Twilight said, stopping her magic frenzy. "I was just testing new spells I found in my old books." She levitated a book over to Spike. He took it, and read the title. "Advanced Unicorn Magic for Dummies? Isn't that not possible or something?" Spike asked. Twilight rolled her eyes. "You silly. It's fine!" She took the book back and read through it. "Ooh! This one looks good!" Twilight showed Spike the spell. Again, Spike took it from her and read it out loud. "'Body Swap Spell?' Twilight, are you sure? Who would be crazy enough to help you test it?" Spike asked, then looked at Twilight, who was smiling at him. "No. Don't you dare. I am NOT swapping bodies with you. Forget it." "Come on, Spike! For science!" Twilight said, following Spike around the library as he started cleaning up books lying on the ground. "It'll be a scientific breakthrough! And a magic breakthrough! Also, think of the possibilities!" Spike rolled his eyes, and decided to humor Twilight. "What possibilities do you mean?" "Like, for example, if you swapped bodies with me, you'd be a pony! That means you could be the same size as Rarity, and you'd get to hang out with her a lot..." Twilight trailed off, smiling. "That would be nice..." Spike mused, then shook his head. What was he thinking? "Twilight, it doesn't matter. You forgot one thing: I'd be you. And I'd be a mare. Do you know how awkward a relationship with ANYPONY who was ALSO a mare would be?!" Twilight grinned sheepishly. "Well... yeah. Oops." "Besides, I'm not doing the spell anyway. Find another test subject," Spike said, then started back up the stairs. "I'm going back to bed." As he passed the window, almost to his bedroom, Twilight's horn glowed. Spike barely had time to think Uh-oh and duck before the beam of hot pink magic shot past him, almost hitting the tip of his scales. The spell hit the window and broke it, flying out of the library on its way to hit Celestia-knows-what. Twilight blinked, and made an "oops" face, and Spike got up off the floor. Looking through the window, he noticed that it was heading toward Sweet Apple Acres. "Twilight...?" Spike said, nervously. "I think you just majorly screwed up." ********************************************************************************************** Sweet Apple Acres 7:45 am Applejack yawned, waking up. She had been up for a while (thanks, rooster!), but she was still really tired. Maybe she shouldn't have gone to that party last night. It wasn't long before she heard the sound of something streaking towards her. It sounded like some sort of firework, but who in their right mind was shooting off fireworks at 7:45 in the morning? They'd have Mayor Mare on their plot in 10 seconds flat. "Apple Bloom? Big Mac?" Applejack called. Her brother and sister, who weren't far away, came running. "What is it, AJ?" Apple Bloom asked, looking up at her big sis. Applejack pointed at the comet-like object, that seemed to be getting closer. "Any idea what that may be?" Applejack asked her, and Apple Bloom looked up before shaking her head. "Big Mac? Do you know?" The two ponies looked at him, and he shook his head. "Nope." Big Mac, true to form, didn't say much. The comet seemed to be getting closer and closer. It got so close, that Applejack began to notice certain things. Certain things like it wasn't a comet at all... it was more like a bolt... a hot pink bolt of energy... Applejack gasped. "Everypony scatter!" she cried, but it was almost too late when she said it. By the time everypony registered what she had said, it was too late. Applejack staggered backwards, half-blinded by the light, and noticed her siblings experiencing the same effects. Calling out to them, Applejack stretched out her hoof, then her eyes closed, and all went black. ********************************************************************************************** "Ugh..." Applejack slowly blinked open her eyes. She looked around quickly, but the comet thing had vanished. Odd. She opened her eyes all the way and the first thing she realized was that she was lying on her back. The second thing she realized was a bit more weird. "What the ever-b***in' hay is goin' on?!" she screamed, upon realizing that 1) the entire lower half of her body was red, not orange, and 2) that she was apparentally part stallion. "I... I could ask the same thing." Applejack turned, and almost did a spit-take. Talking to her right at this minute was...her? She could hardly believe it. Applejack went up to her doppelganger and, on an impulse, poked her in the face. "Ack! What the hay was that for?!" the mare in front of her said. "Sorry..." Applejack said back. "I guess I had to make sure that you were, well... real." "Is this real?" the mare asked. "Eeyup." A third pony had spoken, and Applejack knew without a doubt that it was Big Mac. "Big Mac, stop playin'jokes on us with that filly-like voice. You're not foolin' anypony." Applejack looked down, and there was... Apple Bloom? "Uh..." Applejack turned and looked at her doppelganger again. "Apple Bloom? Is that you?" The mare simply nodded, then bent down to the pony who right now was a red-maned filly. "Big Mac? That you?" Apple Bloom said to her doppelganger, who nodded. He- she?- looked up at Applejack, who simply nodded before a word was spoken. "Yep. I'm Applejack." Applejack said. "And the first thing I'd like to know is, HOW IN THE HAY DID THIS HAPPEN TO US?!" Author's Note Applejack, there is a filly present. She may look like you, but still! Just something to (maybe) clear up: 1) This takes place in the Golden Oaks Library, but Twilight's castle is not canon yet. So, mid-season 4. 2) Twilight was not swapped because she would have had to cast a spell beforehand that would've included her in the swap, but she forgot. Swapped And ConfusedBig Mac knew something was wrong when he woke up and his siblings were standing taller than him, when it was usually him that was tallest. He also knew something was wrong when he noticed that one of those ponies was him. "Is this real?" Applejack asked his doppelganger, and Big Mac suddenly felt nervous. Where the hay was Apple Bloom? Suddenly, a feeling of dread entered his stomach, and he lifted up a hoof. It was small and yellow- not at all what his large red hoof should be. Big Mac gulped, and booped his nose. It was a filly muzzle, all right- and he could feel it. Without meaning to, he answered Applejack's question. "Eeyup." His voice sounded like Apple Bloom's! But how? As he pondered this question, the two ponies stopped talking, and his doppelganger sighed. "Big Mac, stop playin' jokes on us with that filly-like voice. You're not foolin' anypony." Then his doppelganger looked down at him, and his eyes widened. Big Mac had to admit it was a weird feeling. "Uh..." His doppelganger looked very confused, and suddenly Big Mac realized that who he thought was Applejack was not in fact Applejack, but was probably- "Apple Bloom? Is that you?" his doppelganger said, looking at Applejack. Applejack- no, Apple Bloom- nodded, and then his doppelganger, who he thought actually was Applejack, turned to him and said, "Big Mac? That you?" Big Mac nodded. He looked up at Applejack, feeling extremely strange, for the face that looked back should not be staring at him except in a mirror. That face nodded before Big Mac could even get a word out. "Yep. I'm Applejack." Applejack said. "And the first thing I'd like to know is, HOW IN THE HAY DID THIS HAPPEN TO US?!" Big Mac jumped a bit, not used to hearing his voice scream. Even Apple Bloom looked a bit shocked, and she ran over to jam a hoof in Applejack's mouth. The sight was so weird that Big Mac had to suppress a un-stallion-like giggle. "Shush!" Apple Bloom said, looking around wildly. "Do you want Granny Smith to hear?!" Big Mac had almost forgotten about what this would mean to Granny. He still wasn't sure how she hadn't been affected in the first place, but it didn't matter. He walked up to Applejack. "Before we try and make the best of this situation, until it's fixed we should probably set a few rules," Big Mac said, still shocked about how young his voice sounded. "That okay with you two?" Applejack and Apple Bloom nodded. "Number one," Big Mac said, "Applejack. No playing with that thing in between your legs." He fixed her with a glare, and Applejack blushed. "Number two," Applejack said, "Apple Bloom. Keep to your- my- duties. Apple bucking, laundry, you know it." Apple Bloom nodded, and turned to Big Mac. "Big Mac. Number three: Stay in school. Actually TALK to the Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo. Don't ignore them." Big Mac rolled his eyes. "I'm SERIOUS, Big Mac. Don't ruin my social life. Got it? And, oh, right! Number four: Don't, I repeat, DON'T start anything with Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. Even if they start things first." "Eeyup." Big Mac said. Then, turning to Applejack, he said, "Number five. Speak as little as possible. If you talk as much as you usually do, then ponies may start getting suspicious." Applejack nodded. "And Apple Bloom-" Applejack turned to her sister. "If your cutie mark starts glowing-" "My what?!" Apple Bloom looked down at her flank, and stared at the three apples featured there. "I... I..." "I HAVE MY CUTIE MARK!" Apple Bloom screamed happily, bouncing in a circle around them. If Big Mac didn't know better, he would've thought that Pinkie Pie swapped bodies with Applejack instead of Apple Bloom. “Apple Bloom! Calm down!” Applejack said. Big Mac nodded. “Applejack, you need to help out Granny, plus apple bucking. Make sure that Apple Bloom doesn’t blab.” Big Mac said. “I’m serious.” “I’m not going to screw things up!” Apple Bloom said, annoyed. “If anypony would screw it up, it would be YOU, Big Mac.” “Me?” Big Mac asked, confused. “Why would I do that?” “Because you’d be annoyed about it, and complain to somepony. Then they would blab to other ponies, and all of Equestria would know!” Apple Bloom said sarcastically, rolling her eyes. Big Mac narrowed his eyes, and was about to retort when he realized something. I’ve never really been this talkative before, he thought suddenly. This is crazy! I wonder if it’s because of the swap? Either way, he didn’t really like it. “Alright. Is everypony aware of the rules?” Apple Bloom asked, putting a hoof in front of her. “The rules sound fine to me,” Applejack replied, putting her hoof on top of her sister’s. Big Mac nodded. “Eeyup.” With that, he put his hoof on top of his siblings’ hooves. They raised them up at the same time. “Good luck, Big Mac,” Apple Bloom whispered, and ran off to start Applejack’s chores. Big Mac followed, ready to start his own chores, but stopped as a sudden realization came to him. I have to go back to school… Big Mac thought. I really will need that luck. Map MissionsApple Bloom couldn’t believe it. She was skipping school. Not on purpose, but still! She smiled, and watched Big Mac trot down the road, looking annoyed. Apple Bloom couldn’t blame him. He had left school a long time ago. “Apple Bloo- Jack!” Applejack called. Apple Bloom smiled. “Yes, Big Mac?” Apple Bloom asked. “Go see Twilight. Your cutie mark was glowing, therefore the map is calling you. Also, ask her about a hypothetical body swap fix.” Applejack said to her, causing Apple Bloom to smile. The mere thought of her having her own cutie mark was awesome. She loved it. If she purposely wanted to freak out Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo, she’d tell the other Crusaders. However, they’d be really confused. “Yes, Applejack! I mean, Big Mac!” Apple Bloom said, smiling. Applejack smiled back, then turned back to bucking apples. Apple Bloom smiled again and ran down the lane in the same direction Big Mac had gone to the Ponyville Schoolhouse. Running through Ponyville was an odd experience, for everything was much bigger than she was used to. Plus, Applejack apparently had told Carrot Top she’d be by later to buy some carrots. She’d have to remind Applejack about that. “APPLEJACK!” shouted a voice. Apple Bloom stopped and looked around, looking for the voice’s owner, when a pony literally burst out of a knot in a tree. It was Pinkie Pie… of course. “Twilight’s looking for you still!” “She is?” Apple Bloom was confused. “Why was Twilight looking for me?” “The map says that you and me are going to the Pie Rock Farm to solve a friendship problem! We’re going to my home! I’M SO EXCITED!” Pinkie shouted happily. Apple Bloom smiled. “Great! I can see Maud again!’ Apple Bloom was happy. The last time she visited the Pie Rock Farm, at Hearth’s Warming a couple years ago, she and Maud had become friends. Boulder was awesome too, of course. “Yep! Maud’s visiting home this week! And she brought her coltfriend to meet her family!” Pinkie smiled. “I hope Marble and Limestone like Mudbriar!” Apple Bloom blinked. “Maud has a coltfriend?” “Of course, silly!” Pinkie smiled. “That’s who Mudbriar is! He’s Maud’s coltfriend and he’s kind of annoying at first. However, he’ll grow on you! He really cares about Maud!” “I’m glad Maud’s found somepony who she cares about as much as they do her,” Apple Bloom said. “She deserves it.” “I agree!” Pinkie said, and at that moment Apple Bloom realized that Pinkie had somehow pushed her into Twilight’s throne room without her realizing. She dismissed it as normal for Pinkie Pie, though, and noticed that on the crystal map table there was two cutie mark symbols floating around the Pie Rock Farm’s map location. Upon further investigation, those two cutie marks were revealed to be three balloons- Pinkie’s cutie mark- and three apples- Applejack’s, or rather Apple Bloom’s at this moment, cutie mark. “Whattya mean Apple Bloom has Applejack’s cutie mark?” Pinkie unexpectedly said. “That’s not true! Applejack has Applejack’s cutie mark, silly!” Apple Bloom’s eyes went wide. How in all of Equestria does Pinkie know about the swap? Apple Bloom thought, with increasing feelings of confusion. We told literally nopony! Well, except eachother. “And you had a geometry test today? Ooh, I’m sorry! How’d it go?” Pinkie said. “Huh? Get back to the story? Aw… Okay, I will.” Pinkie walked over to Apple Bloom with a frown on her face. “The author of this fanfiction’s being mean.” Apple Bloom smiled. She should’ve known. More Pinkie Pie randomness was occurring. "Ah! Good! You're here!" Apple Bloom turned toward the new voice in the room, and smiled upon seeing Twilight Sparkle. "You're all set?" "Yup!" Pinkie smiled, and put a hoof around Applejack again. "We're ready!" "Great!" Twilight smiled. "Good luck!" "Thanks!" Apple Bloom and Pinkie both chorused, and Pinkie started walking toward the door. Apple Bloom started walking toward Twilight instead. "Hey Applejack!" Twilight said, smiling. "Is something wrong?" "Not at all, Twilight," Apple Bloom smiled back, and looked around quickly. "Um, Twilight? Can I ask you a question?" "Sure!" Twilight sat down, and motioned Apple Bloom to sit down next to her. "What's up?" "Applejack!" Pinkie was somehow back in the room. "Are we gonna go? This is really important!" "Just a minute, Pinkie!" Apple Bloom replied, then turned back to Twilight. "Do you know anything about body swap spells?" Twilight's face showed shock for a moment, then returned to normal. "I don't know what you mean!" “Well, you’re the only one here that possibly would do one, and would have the power to,” Apple Bloom said. “You sure you don’t know?” Twilight sighed. “I do know. But wait. Why are you asking?” “Well…” Apple Bloom sighed. “I’m not Applejack.” “WHAT?!” Twilight gasped. “You mean that blast that went out the window actually hit somepony?!” “Yep.” Apple Bloom nodded. “Who was it?” Twilight asked frantically. “Applejack, me, and Big Mac.” Apple Bloom smiled nervously. “I’m Apple Bloom. Sorry to intrude on the mission." Author's Note Next chapter's done! ^^ Also: Sorry for the long hiatus. You can blame midterm exams for the long hiatus on Appleswap. Fun Fact: Midterm exams were also what eventually caused my most popular story (in my opinion) Resistance is Futile to be cancelled. Second Fun Fact: I may un-cancel that story :)
