Prologue: Twilight's New Home

Previous Chapter

Asriel sat on his desk, writing on his book. "Dear Diary. It's been a week since we adopted Twilight. She has been proven to be much more of a handful than I was, being able to fly and use magic so early in her life, it took Mom and Dad to calm her down when she had a nightmare." He looked to see the filly, who was still asleep in her crib. "Twilight was behaving rather well for a foal, although she does get a little anxious about flash photography and tends to let out a loud wail that would likely be able to break glass. Although I still have my memories of the original timeline and all the RESETs, I have that wonder that all children have. It's not bad, it's just in nature, and maybe a little bit because of the fact that it is a new timeline. Today, however, Twilight's room is about to be complete. Hope she likes it." Closing the journal with a satisfying clap from the book, the Prince of the Underground heard the door creak open. "Oh, hey Mom, hey Dad." Asriel said.

"Hey, Asriel. Her room was just completed now." Asgore said as he and Toriel walked into the room.

"My child, do you want to see it?" Toriel asked. Asriel knew that it was time for hi to say goodbye for now, but he still knew that she was his sister, and that he can see her any time, figuratively speaking. He got up and nodded his head. "You have grown rather attached to her. Don't worry, many new siblings do have that same kind of bond."

Twilight's room was next door to Asriel's. Originally, it had been a storeroom before his birth, then was abandoned for one reason or another. They didn't really have any purpose for it, so they left it empty for stock, but now, with Twilight in the family, they did have a purpose for it. "And here we are at the Kingdom of Princess Twilight." Asriel said in a more joking tone, which made his parents almost chucke. The room was cleaned up with a new carpet floor with a changing table on one corner and a few boxes here and there. Another one of the room's corners was supposed to be where the crib would be. As for the walls, they were painted as an open grassland littered with flowers and the occasional oak tree or two, not in the Underground, but on the surface. A light blue sky was painted on the ceiling, and a giant sun encircled the base of the ceiling fan, which was already lit up and spinning. "Wow, I think that she'll love it." Asriel commented.

"Well, son, you have to thank the designers we hired for their handiwork." Asgore replied.

"Now all we have to do is bring Twilight's crib into here." Toriel said as they exited the room. He wasn't that strong as either of his parents, who were carrying the crib, but he didn't blame himself, he was a child, after all. "Huff, and that's that." the Queen of the Underground said. "My children, what do you think?"

Asriel was with Twilight, getting to know her. He had a feeling that the filly would need a big brother or some other older sibling to depend on, and he would have to do. She was in her stroller, looking at awe and babbling at the new world within the room. "Wow, I think she likes it." Asriel replied as Twilight got up and began flying around. At first, they were a bit worried, but she looked around at the new place, soaking in every detail. Her crib was right in the corner, waiting for her comfort, so, she flew in and lay down, closing her eyes as she fell fast asleep within it before letting out a quiet rumble within her tummy. She woke up and blushed in embarrassment, it was lunchtime. So, the family of four went into their private dining room to eat. The great hall was only reserved for special affairs and when guests arrive, and he first went into it during holidays when he was about six, as he was too young to handle it before that. As for Twilight, he guessed that she might be able to go there around the same time he did, but he never knew, as she was a fast learner, and she also matures a little fast than average, if what he remembered was true, then she might become one of the smartest people in the underground when she grows up, seconded only by Gaster and Alphys, who were Royal Scientists. She still stuck her hoof in her baby food, while messy, was still very cute to watch. How she learned to unscrew the bottle was rather a mystery, but they all assumed she just watched it happen. "I've been wondering about Twilight, she's still just a baby, or foal, in her case, and I've been a bit worried about her and flash photography."

Both Asgore and Toriel went silent. They knew that babies were sensitive, but Twilight was another story. She is capable of more than one type of magic, and, if not careful, could destroy the city. Only a select few monsters, such as Sans and Captain Undyne, were capable of that, SOUL based magic does count after all. "Ah, that. You are pretty new to this, but non-flash photography was invented a few days before you were born." Asgore exclaimed.

"But it hasn't been used since then, so we might as well put it to good use." Toriel added. She knew about babies very well, despite Asriel being the only one she bore. The memories of Asriel as a newborn were still there, but even though time may have taken its toll, it was as clear as the cleanest glass.

Twilight didn't know what they were talking about, and just shrugged it off and continued to chew on her baby food with her nonexistent teeth before dragging whatever remained on her lips into her mouth with her tongue. How she stuffs so much food in her small little body without releasing herself within the next hour or so, OR gaining any weight is a true mystery to her new family. She didn't understand that, though, she was just a foal. When the Dreemurrs had finished their meals, the next step was to spread the word. Flashless photography was now more common, so it was much easier finding those cameras. "Alright, smile." the photographer said to the filly. She tilted her head in confusion while Asriel stood by her side, and then, the picture was taken.

Underground Daily, New Home
A New Princess is Adopted by the Royal Family

The Dreemurr family has adopted another child, a tiny horse sharing some of the qualities of monsters. They named the little one, "Twilight Dreemurr", which is surprisingly good for King Asgore's naming skills. They said that Asriel found her in a basket that supposedly fell into the Underground. The Royal Scientist, Doctor Alphys Gekko, has been credited for finding out that Twilight was sentient, but she still hasn't figured out what she was exactly, and why she is capable of holding DETERMINATION. Anyone can volunteer in her new experiments. See--

"well, bless those poor souls." a small skeleton said as he looked at the newspaper. Sans sighed, knowing that these poor monsters will likely suffer the same fate. He woke up with a start after that last run, all he saw was glitches and what looked like Dr. Gaster himself. He was once a scientist, working alongside his cousin, they built the Core. Gaster wanted to go back in time and stop the war before it happened. And then, he and several others fell in, with Sans and several others witnessing it all happen. After that, no one remembered, but him.

A bolt of energy struck his left eye, causing it to glow an eerie blue. Gaster was wiped from existence, and Sans can now see into alternate timelines. It took him weeks to learn how to control his visions, and he had tried everything to bring his friend back, but gave up and hung his lab coat, moving into his brother's house at Snowdin. Thankfully, that happened before Asriel met Chara, or should it be said as, never met Chara.

When Sans woke up, he saw Papyrus trying to stop his nap in their house in Snowdin, which was normal. What was not normal, was that the world was a lot different. There was no mention of Chara, Frisk, or any of the fallen humans, some of the monsters were younger than usual, and the most shocking and obvious thing, Asriel Dreemurr was alive. He knew then and now that he was back in time. He knew that Asriel would likely remember the runs, so he never bothered to try and stop Chara from carrying out her plan, but the newspaper had a different image.

It was of Asriel Dreemurr, standing next to a small, purple horse, an alicorn, he believed that they were called, tilting her head in confusion. "SANS, WAKE UP LAZYBONES- OH, YOU GOT THE NEWSPAPER, HUH?" the familiar voice of his brother yelled out. The skeleton got up and went into the living room. Both he and Papyrus haven't bothered to change their looks since Gaster was wiped from existance, and, in a way, he was comfortable.

"yep, you could say i was horsing around here." Sans said. Papyrus groaned in annoyance as his older, yet shorter brother chuckled. At least some things were familiar. "i've seen many other things, but the foaltality of it all is that king asgore and queen toriel seem to have a new heir."

"SANS! DO YOU EVER STOP WITH THOSE REDICULOUS PUNS?" Papyrus said, covering his ears. "I'M GONNA GO GET TO MY... PLACE IF YOU NEED ME." Papyrus said as he went out of the room.

"keep it all to yourself, pap. this'll be interesting to watch." Sans said as he snapped his fingers. Papyrus knew that his brother can teleport, but Sans knew better than to abuse it. He went to the bridge, looking out into the chasm. He took a deep breath, walking towards the other side, and, without a thought, went into the wondorous world of sleep. Ever since the incident, he has full control over his dreams, which would allow him to formulate his next move. While he may seem all lazy, he was most active in the mind. While in his dream world, he had an imaginary laboratory.

"man, this has gone to a turn for the strange. so much for stopping chara, but maybe that is a good thing. maybe i can work with this. flowey's back to being asriel again, so he can still feel empathy. but what about twilight? what will happen with her?" Sans materialized the picture from the newspaper in his hand. "she's an oddball, but i remember hearing several humans talking about 'ponies' here and there before waking up back in snowdin. as of now, i just have to keep playing it cool. with the dreemurrs taking care of her, she'll likely be a benevolent figure. but i might not want to jump into any conclusions yet, maybe when she matures, it'll be one thing." Sans was half-satisfied, but he felt a small grumble coming from his nonexistent stomach.

"welp, time for lunch. grillby's is still just as nice as i remember." Sans said. With the snap of a finger, he woke up. Taking another one of his shortcuts, he went back to Snowdin town, right in the back of a building. He calmly walked across the town and into the restaurant. He was thinking about a nice burger and fries combo for lunch.

Alright, so Sans and Papyrus are here. I'm thinking that this will be the last part of the Prologue, so next arc, I've been thinking about introducing the fallen humans, either one by one or in pairs. I haven't thought of what I'm gonna do with Frisk yet, though.
