I sat, waiting in the loan shark's stuffy office. I was here so I could get a loan to pay for college, finally caving to the cost of it all. I shook my head, I knew this was a bad idea but I didn't have much more of a choice, my fast food job isn't paying enough to pay for everything. I jumped out of my skin as a hoof was slammed on the desk in front of me.
"Haha, you were ignorin' me," the loan shark laughed as I tried to calm myself down. The loan shark sat in his chair, and looked at me. "Now, why have you come for my services?"
"um, well, uh, I need a small loan to be able to pay for college," I told him. He nodded and waved his hoof and a mare walked carrying a briefcase. She opened the case up and I saw many bags of presumably bits.
"250,000 bits, enough to pay for the rest of your college years, but you will pay me back, and if you don't, well, that's bad news for you," He placed a knife on the table as he talked. "Now, when you get home, you will have a note in your mailbox, it'll tell you how you're paying me back."
"U-Um, y-yeah, alright, um, thank you," I smiled and took the briefcase, making sure it was okay first, then I left with my college future. On my walk home I pondered what he could have me do to pay him back. My mind went to money laundering, then drug smuggling, then prostitution. I spotted my house and smiled, home sweet home. Once I reached my mailbox I opened it, seeing a rolled up scroll inside, I pulled it out and walked inside. I laid the briefcase on my kitchen counter as I unraveled the scroll.
How you are going to pay me back, is you're going to steal for me. Your first job is going to be at 255 west maple street, you will break in, and steal their antique clock, I saw it at a dinner party once and wanted it. Steal anything else and pawn it off, the money will help you pay me back. Do not disappoint me.
I sighed as I read the note. I placed the note on the table, and shook my head. I had to do it, it's his money. I ran a hoof through my hair as I decided to investigate the house, so I left to stake out the property.
I stared at the house and noted down things, such as they had no fences. The house was a single story house, and I was certain only one pony lived their. I stayed around until I was confident on the place, so I walked back home to get ready for my burglary. I grabbed a small saddle pack and waited for nightfall. I locked my door and walked down my walkway, onto the sidewalk and walked to the house.
I sighed as I got there, as I approached a window, looking inside, I saw no one, so I grabbed a rock and broke the window in. I held my breath as the glass shattered and crashed to the ground. I mumbled to myself as I counted to fifty. I slowly crawled in through the window and looked around the room. I walked around and opened drawers, finding knickknacks, origami, and other paper craft objects. I did find a pair of sunglasses that tossed into my bag. I approached the door and slowly opened it and sighed as the hinges didn't squeak. I slowly walked out into the hall and walked to the closest door and opened it slowly. I looked inside and saw a violin case resting on a table, I slowly approached it and opened it, seeing a beautiful mahogany violin, engraved with many professional violinists names. I made a mental note of it and left the door open.
I walked farther back into the house, opening any door I came across, popping inside if it had anything that looked valuable. I opened the last door in the hallway and nearly shouted in happiness as I saw a safe, a fancy electronic lock on it. Part of me knew it was pointless to even mess with the safe, but another part of me wanted to try, for experience. I slowly approached the safe and looked for any wires that could sound an alarm. I then looked around in the office, seeing if the owner wrote down the code to the safe. I skimmed through notebooks and drawers, until I found a small piece of paper underneath a stack of bills. I looked at the paper and smiled in delight as I stared at the five digit code. 79513. I turned around and slowly punched in the code and exclaimed in happiness as the safe popped open. I opened the safe completely and stared at the goodies inside. I grabbed a case with several antique coins, a few watches, and a large bag filled with bits, it all went into my bag. I closed the safe, and left the room, my bag a few pounds heavier. I left the hallway and entered into the kitchen and dining room, as I saw the small clock the loan shark wanted. Thankfully it wasn't too big and fit into my bag with a small struggle. I rummaged through the kitchen, not finding much of value. I left the kitchen, and went back for the violin, grabbing it and leaving for my exit. I laid the violin on the ground outside of the window and tossed my bag out, as I crawled out the window, careful not to cut myself. I grabbed my newfound belongings and carefully left for my house.
I opened the door to my house, and laid the violin on my kitchen table. I took my saddle pack off and sighed softly. I locked my doors and went to my room, and slowly fell asleep. My dreams were filled with me sitting on a pile of bits, laughing happily at my wonderful endeavors. I jolted awake, a foreboding grin plastered to my face. I looked out of my window and smiled as I saw Celestia's beautiful sun. I walked out and grabbed my belongings, leaving the clock, and left for the nearest pawn shop. The nearest pawnshop was a little bit of a walk, but it was worth it. Ponyville had built several pawnshops in the past few years, to try and help with Canterlot's economic struggle. I walked into the pawn shop and smiled at the clerk. I laid the violin on the counter.
"Oh, wow, this is a beautiful violin, master crafted, and engraved with violinists names, the strings aren't too strained, um, I'll give you 4,500 bits for it," the moment the price he'd trade me for it, I nearly melted in my skin. I laid the other things on the counter, and the clerk smiled softly. "Hmm, all together, I'll give you 6,000 bits, how does that sound?"
"It sounds perfect," I smiled as the clerk wrote out a check for 6,000 bits, he gave it too me, and I smiled as I left, 6,000 bits richer.
