How The Grinch Stole Christmas
It was that time of year again, snow falling, decorations brawling, hot cider calling, it was a very good time of year as Hearth's Warming was once again in full swing. This Hearth's Warming was going to be different though for two little alicorn fillies because Shining Armor and Cadance had told them the story of the first Hearth's Warming celebrated in the founding of Equestria and they told it every time Hearth's Warming came around. But, because they had told the story so many times to the kids, they decided to take a break.
Now here was Nathan in his pajamas, his body buried in the covers of his bed, all warm and cozy as snow lightly fell outside the bedroom window. He was already fast asleep and going into the second phase of it where when someone is asleep they cannot hear anything, but this phase of sleep would soon be interrupted because he awoke to the sound of Skyla and Flurry Heart (who's crib had been moved into his room) giggling over pure excitement about Hearth's Warming being in five days.
Nathan gave a small giggle himself at the sound of seeing his sisters being happy "All right y'all ah' know y'all are excited, but we need to get some sleep."
"Skyla too happy to sweep." said Skyla.
Flurry Heart just giggled as her response.
"Well, ah' think ah' know a good bedtime story for y'all." he said as he climbed out of his bed and went over to a small bookshelf containing all kinds of children's books that either he, Cadance, or Shining Armor would read to them. But Nathan had managed to buy one book that they had never heard before, this book was one that he was willing to save for Hearth's Warming Eve, his most favorite Christmas story of all time.....How The Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss.
"Ah was gonna wait until Hearth's Warming Eve to read this to y'all, but ah' think now would be a good time."
"What stowry Napphan wead?" asked Skyla as Flurry Heart smiled with her cute little face.
"It's called How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss."
"What Chwistmas?" asked Skyla."Who Dr. Seuss?"
"Christmas is a holiday on mah' world similar to Hearth's Warming, only we celebrate Christmas as a day to celebrate the birth of Jesus, so what do you say, you want me to read this book?" asked Nathan.
"Skyla wove new book." replied Skyla, Nathan giggled.
"All right, come here you." Nathan said as he pulled Skyla out of her bed and placing her on a chair that Cadance sat in when she fed Flurry Heart her milk.
"You too tiger." he said pulling Flurry Heart from her crib and to the left side of the chair. Nathan sat in the middle and placed them on his lap as he turned on a lamp light so he could see the pages in the book.
"Y'all comfy?" he asked, Skyla and Flurry Heart nodded.
"Okay, here we go." he then opened the book to the first page which showed a giant wreath and a little Who holding it and began to read like a real narrator from a movie.
"Every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot.....
"But the Grinch who lived just north of Whoville, DID NOT!"
Skyla and Flurry Heart gasped as Nathan continued flipping pages.
"The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season!"
"Now, please don't ask why. No one quite knows the reason."
"It could be his head wasn't screwed on just right."
"It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight."
"But ah' think the most likely reason of all, was that his heart was two sizes too small."
Skyla and Flurry Heart continued to listen in excitement.
"But,"
"Whatever the reason,"
"His heart or his shoes,"
"He stood there on Christmas Eve, hatin' the Whos."
"Starin' down from his cave with a sour grinchy frown at the warm lighted windows below in their town."
"For he knew every Who down in Whoville beneath was busy now, hanging a mistletoe wreath."
"'And they're hanging their stockings.'" "he snarled with a sneer." said Nathan as he just performed his own Grinch voice making Skyla and Flurry Heart laugh.
"Tomorrow is Christmas!, It's practically here!"
"Then he growled, with his Grinch fingers nervously drumming."
"Ah' MUST find some way to stop Christmas from coming!"
"For tomorrow, he knew.....
"All the Who girls and boys would wake bright and early. They'd rush for their toys."
"And then! Oh, the noise! Oh, the Noise! Noise! Noise! Noise!"
"That's one thing he hated! The NOISE! NOISE! NOISE! NOISE!"
"Then the Who's, young and old, would sit down to a feast. And they'd feast! And they'd feast!"
"And they'd FEAST! FEAST! FEAST! FEAST!"
"They would feast on Who-pudding, and rare Who-roast-beast"
"Which was something the Grinch couldn't stand in the least!"
"Yum food." said Skyla, while Flurry stared with her cute smile.
"And then they'd do something, he liked least of all!"
"Every Who down in Whoville, the tall and the small would stand close together, with Christmas bells ringing."
"They'd stand hand in hand. And the Who's would start singing."
"They'd sing and they'd sing, and they'd SING!, SING!, SING!, SING!
"And the more the Grinch thought of this Who-Christmas Sing,"
"the more the Grinch thought, "Ah' must stop this whole thing!"
"Why, for fifty-three years, ah've put up with it now!, Ah' must STOP this Christmas from coming....But HOW?"
"Then he got an idea, an awful idea."
"THE GRINCH GOT A WONDERFUL, AWFUL IDEA!"
"Ah' know just what to do." The Grinch laughed in his throat."
"And he made a quick Santy Claus hat and a coat."
"And he chuckled, and clucked, "What a great Grinchy trick!"
"With this hat and this coat, Ah'll look just like Saint Nick!"
"All Ah' need is a reindeer......"
"The Grinch looked around."
"But, since reindeer were scarce, there was none to be found."
"Did that stop the old Grinch?".....
"No!""The Grinch simply said."
"If Ah' can't find a reindeer, Ah'll just make one instead."
"So he called his dog Max, then took some red thread."
"And he tied a big horn on top of his head."
"Mean Gwinch!" said Skyla.
Nathan giggled as he continued on the story......

We continue......
Nathan was still in the middle of the book that his sisters were already taking a big liking to.
"Then he loaded some bags."
"And some old empty sacks."
"On a remarkable sleigh."
"And he hitched up old Max."
"Then the Grinch said "Giddup!."
"And the sleigh started down, toward the homes where the Whos lay a snooze in their town."
"All their windows were dark. Quiet snow filled the air,"
"All the Whos were dreaming sweet dreams without care."
"When he first came to the first little house on the square."
"This is stop number one." "the old Grinchy Claus hissed,"
"And he climbed to the roof, empty bags in his fist."
"Then he slid down the chimney, though quite a tight pinch,
"But, if Santa could do it, then so could the Grinch."
"He got stuck only once, for a moment or two."
"Then he stuck his head out of the fireplace flue."
Skyla and Flurry Heart laughed at this as Nathan continued.
"Where the little Whos stockings all hung in a row."
"These stockings" he grinned, "are the first things to go!"
"Uh-oh!" said Skyla while Flurry Heart gagged in anger.
"Then he slithered and slunk, with a smile most unpleasant."
"Around the whole room, and he took every present!"
"Pop guns!, and Bicycles!, Roller skates!, Drums!"
"Checkerboards!, Tricycles!, Popcorn!, and Plums!"
"And he stuffed them in bags. Then the Grinch very nimbly, stuffed all the bags, one by one, up the chimbley!"
"Then he slunk to the icebox, he took the Whos feast!"
"He took the Who-pudding, he took the roast-beast!"
"He cleaned out that icebox as quick as a flash."
"Why the Grinch even took their last can of Who-hash!"
"Then he stuffed all the food up the chimney with glee."
"And NOW" grinned the Grinch, "Ah' will stuff up the tree!"
"And the Grinch grabbed the tree and he started to shove,"
"When he heard a small sound like the coo of a dove.
"He turned around fast, and he saw a small Who!"
"Little Cindy-Lou Who, who was no more than two."
"The Grinch had been caught by this tiny Who daughter,"
"who'd got out of bed for a cup of cold water."
"She stared at the Grinch and said, "Santy Claus why?, Why are you taking our Christmas tree?" "WHY?" Nathan said with a cute little high squeaky whispering voice to impersonate the little Who.
"Who cute." said Skyla.
"Yeah." replied Nathan as he went on.
"But ya' know, that old Grinch was so smart and so slick!"
"He thought up a lie and thought it up quick!
"Why, mah' sweet little tot." "the fake Santy Claus lied."
"There's a light on this tree that won't light on one side."
"So ah'm taking it home to my workshop, mah' dear."
"Ah'll fix it up there, then ah'll bring it back here."
"And his fib fooled the child, then he patted her head."
"And he got her a drink, and sent her to bed."
"And when Cindy Lou-Who went to bed with her cup."
"HE went to the chimney and stuffed the tree up!"
"Then the last thing he took was the log for their fire!"
"Then he went up the chimney, himself, the old liar."
"On their walls he left nothing but hooks and some wire."
"And the one speck of food that he left in the house, was a crumb that was even too small for a mouse."
"Then he did the same thing to the other Whos' houses."
"Leaving crumbs too small for the other Whos' mouses!"
"It was quarter past dawn......"
"All the Whos still a-bed."
"All the Whos, still a-snooze."
"When he packed up his sled,"
"Packed it up with their presents!, The ribbons!, The wrappins'!"
"The tags! And the tinsel!, The trimmins'!, The trappins'!"
"Three thousand feet up!, Up the side of Mt. Crumpit, he rode with his load to the tiptop to dump it!"
"Pooh-Pooh to the Whos." "he was grinch-ish-ly humming."
"They're finding out now that no Christmas is coming!"
"They're just waking up!" "Ah'll know just what they'll do!"
"Their mouths will hang open a minute or two,"
"Then every Who down in Who-ville will cry BOO-HOO!"
Skyla and Flurry Heart were shocked as Nathan read.
"That's a noise." "grinned the Grinch."
"That Ah' simply MUST hear!"
"So he paused. And the Grinch put his hand to his ear."
"And he did hear a sound rising over the snow."
"It started in low. Then it started to grow....."
"But the sound wasn't sad!"
"Why, this sound sounded merry!"
"It couldn't be so!"
"But it WAS merry! VERY!"
"He stared down at Who-ville!"
"The Grinch popped his eyes!"
"Then he shook!"
"What he saw was a shockin' surprise!"
"Every Who down in Who-ville, the tall and the small,"
"Was singing! Without any presents at all!"
"He HADN'T stopped Christmas from comin'!"
"IT CAME!"
"Somehow or other, it came just the same!"
"Wow." said Skyla while Flurry Heart smiled.
"Ah' know Skyla, you as well tiger." said Nathan as he went on to finish the book.
"And the Grinch with his grinch-feet ice-cold in the snow,"
"Stood puzzlin' and puzzlin'", "How could it be so?"
"It came without ribbons! It came without tags!"
"It came without packages, boxes, or bags!"
"And he puzzled three hours, till his puzzler was sore."
"Then the Grinch thought of somethin' he hadn't before!"
"Maybe Christmas," "he thought", "doesn't come from a store."
"Maybe Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!"
"And what happen then...?"
"Well...in Who-ville they say that the Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day!"
"And the minute his heart didn't feel quite so tight,"
"He whizzed with his load through the bright mornin' light."
"And he brought back the toys! And the food for the feast!"
"And he...."
Nathan finally came to the last page.
"...HE HIMSELF..."
"The Grinch carved the roast beast!"
"Well gals what did y'all think?" asked Nathan as he closed the book, only to have no response.
"Gals?" he asked, he suddenly looked down to see his two cute little sisters had finally fallen asleep beside him. Nathan looked up at a reflection of himself in a mirror that mounted right beside him.
"Nathan Elisha Cadenza, you are one great narrator." he whispered. And within seconds, he drifted off too sleep as well.
