Starfleet Magic: Season 1 (Rewrite)

Sapphire, Snowflake and Skystorm were walking through New Ponyville just admiring the view. Lightning and the team have been training harder than ever to boost up their strengths. Sapphire has been doing the same. By learning a variety of spells from teleportation, to transfiguration, to shields, she’s been learning to them all. The ponies knew this was good, having variety of spells at her disposal, but they also told her to keep up with her training. Rhymey, Spike and the girls helped her with her sword work while Lightning and their majesties helped her with her shapeshifting.

But for now, she was just enjoying the view. That’s when she noticed a lot of ponies gathered in the middle of town. “Wonder what’s going on?” Warming over, she saw a stage with a unicorn on it. She was bright red with a yellow mane and tail. Also, wearing a magicians hat and cape. By her side was another Deadly Nadder but this one was purple with yellow shading on it's wings.

She was performing tricks with her magic while her dragon created sparking shapes with it's magnesium blast. Sapphire, Snowflake and Skystorm walked into the crowd and found the girls along with Lightning and friends including Mykan. While Spike and Krysta were interested in her act, the ponies were giving her annoyed looks. Sapphire leaned over to Spike and Mykan. “What’s the deal with them?”

“It’s that unicorn and her dragon. Her name is Star Sizzle and her dragons' name is Vemon, she claims to be they are the most powerful duo ever.” Spike explained. Krysta finished “Lightning and the gang don’t like her bragging.”

“Hmm.” Sapphire replied.

Star went on about how she and her dragons defeated a hydra and manticore once. Of course most ponies automatically believed her except for Lightning and his friends. Then she went on about how there was no creature how could possibly beat her in magic. Spike yelled at her “OH YEAH? WELL SAPPHIRE AND HER DRAGONS CAN BEAT-“ Sapphire quickly covers his mouth hoping Star didn’t hear that.

Unfortunately, she did.

“So the little human thinks she and her dragons can beat me in a magic duel, do you?” Star challenged as she leaped off stage and approached her. “I-I didn’t say-“ Sapphire stammered but was cut off by Star. “Well... if you think you’re so powerful then we’ll have a showdown.” Sapphire tried to decline, but her friends cut her off.

“Bring it on, you little bragger!” Rainbow exclaimed. “Sapphire and her dragons will beat you anytime, anywhere.”

“Sapphire will take your battle call,
And we’ll watch her make you fall!” Rheymey added.

“Darn tootin’” Applejack added. “They’ll beat in two shakes of a bunny tail. They beat King Sombra on the first try.” The girls nodded in agreement. The crowd gasped in awe. Star scoffed. “Fine then... I challenge you, Sapphire and your dragons, to a magic duel at high noon. Winner is dubbed the most powerful creature.”

“And the loser?” Rarity asked.

“Give up their dragons and is banished from New a Ponyville FOREVER!” Everybody gasped in horror. Star walked off leaving Sapphire frozen in fear. Lightning waved his hand in front of her face. “Sapphire, you okay?”

“... what did I get myself into to?”

Meanwhile, up in his spaceship high above United Equestira, Sombra watched everything on the monitors. “Hahaha. A magic duel huh, we’ll I think I’ll add one more contestant. MINIONS!” At his cry, his minions cane into the throne room.

“You called, master?” Frost asked.

“Yes, I want you three to enter a magic duel.” The minions were confused. “Umm.. your majesty what good will a magic duel do for us?”

“Idiots! This will give you a chance to destroy my enemies and learn about a certain human girl.” The minions liked the sound of destroying the ponies. “Be warmed the human girl is more powerful than she looks so be cautious.”

The minions nodded. “We’ll destroy those pests easy!” Breaker exclaimed. “You better you else things will end up very badly... for you.” Sombra warned and he shocked the minions with lightning to empathize his point. “Yes, your majesty.” The minions responded. Sombra laughed with glee.

Back in New Ponyville, Sapphire was at Lightning and Starla’s place along with their friends. “I can’t enter the magic duel!” She cried.

“Why not? You’ll be fine.” Rainbow replied. Sapphire shook her head. “But I don’t want to battle her. Or lose Snowflake and Skystorm. ”

"You won't lose them." Rainbow reassured.

"You don't know that!" Sapphire cried. Rainbow was taken aback by her sudden yelling. "... Sorry. I was don't-"

Lightning came up to her and placed a hand on her shoulder. "I know Sapphire, you don't want to lose your friends or battle, but we kinda forced you to do it anyway." The team felt bad for putting all this pressure on Sapphire.

"Yeah, we were so caught up in wanting to beat Star that we didn't see how pressured it made you feel." Starla added, feeling ashamed.

"We're so super sorry." Pinkie added.

"It's alright you guys. I have no choice now. Guess I'd better get this over with." Sapphire said. "Come on girls." Snowflake and Skystorm followed their rider out the door, leaving her friends feeling guilty about their actions

Sapphire and Star were in the middle of town with their dragons. A crowd of ponies surrounded them, including Lightning and his friends. “Alright, shall we begin?” Star asked. Sapphire nodded.

Star began by using her magic a create a ball of light she launched it up and her dragons blasted it with it's fire attack. The ballexploded and caused sparkles to appear spelling her name in the sky.

Sapphire concentrated and blasted four clues the sky which glowed yellow and grew and turned into four, howling wolves. Snowflake and Skystorm combined their fire attacks and made it rain flaming sparkles. The crowd was in awe.

“Alright Sapphire!” Mykan called.

“Keep it up!” Pinkie added.

Star was not amused.

Next, she then made herself and her dragons invisible and reappear in front of Sapphire. "Beat that, punk." she challenged. Sapphire used her magic and blasted six flower pots turning them into six, flower printed cats. The cats and dragons all leaped into the air and blasted a pulse of energy and fire out of their mouths. They combined and exploded into many flower shaped sparkles in the sky."Cool!" Lightning exclaimed.

Now Star and her was getting angry, any trick she tried was outclassed by Sapphire and her dragons’s skills. Sapphire changed into Snowflake and flew up into the air. Using her plasma blast she struck the clouds, making them flash the same color as her attack. Skystorm and Snowflake flew up and together combined their fire attacks. The clouds exploded and made a what looked like a fireworks display. “Incredible!” Lightning cried. The crowd went wild. Sapphire and her dragons landed on the ground. Sapphire glowed and changed back into her human self. Star and Vemon, on the other hand, had enough! “That’s it! You think you can beat me?! Well, I’ll show you magic!” Star fired a beam of fire magic from her horn.

“Sapphire!” Mykan cried.

“Look out!” Lightning and Starla cried in unison. Before it could hit her, Sapphire surrounded herself in a barrier deflecting the beam into the sky. Star growled.

She sent multiple blasts at Sapphire but her barrier deflected every single one. Snowflake and Skystorm fired their at her but she and her dragons dodged it. “Hey this is a magic and dragon duel, not a magic and dragon fight!” a pony cried from the crowd. The others ponies shared his feeling and began booing Star. “Who asked you?” she snarled. “I’ll show you all WHAT REALLY MAGIC IS!” Star prepared to charge Sapphire again.

Suddenly...

Three blasts came between the two causing a large explosion sending Star flying back. The crowd screamed in fear. “What was that?” Lightning asked. That’s when Sombra's minions appeared. “Surprise.” Frost said.

“Why are you here? What do you want?” Lightning asked.

“We’re here to enter this silly competition and win.” The three turned towards Sapphire, who was still protected by her barrier and dragons. Sapphire didn’t like the look of those three. The ponies dashed and came between the minions and their friend. “You three are not laying a hand on her!” Buddy yelled. The minions readied their magic. “Try us.” Frost challenged. The minions touched horns and combined their magic. They send a large blast at the ground, sending the team flying in different directions. “Guys!”

Sapphire lowered the shield, “Nobody messes with my friends!” and fired at the minions who blocked it. “Hahaha, you really think you can beat us like that?” Breaker taunted. Sapphire frowned, “You haven’t seen anything yet.” and in a flash, changed into a Zippleback dragons.

The minions smirked, thinking she would be an easy opponent. Sapphire roared at them. Sapphire charged the minions but they flew up and out of her range. “You can’t catch us!” Breaker taunted. Sapphire exhaled green, flammable smoke from one head and the other head ignited it, but the minions dodged that attack as well. Sapphire noticed the shields around the buildings and got an idea. She landed on the ground and changed back into herself. Leaping onto the shield and into the sky, in mid-air, she changed into a Light Fury and fired her plasma blast. Frost didn’t notice her in time to avoid getting struck by the attack. Sapphire landed on another shield and did them same thing to Flame. Sapphire roared at them. “You are so pathetic!” Flame insulted.

Sapphire growled and lunged at the minions. They fired their magic at her but she spiralled around it and bashed them hard, sending them crashing to the ground. “Awesome!” a pony cried. The team got to their feet and watched as Sapphire swooped and ram the minions, repeatedly. She landed and changed back into her normal self. The minions stood up and growled at Sapphire. “She’s more powerful than I thought.” Flame whispered. His comrades agreed and they all decided to retreat.

Sapphire, breathing heavily, was relieved they were gone too. She changed back into her human self.

Then, she heard some clapping from behind her. “Huh?” Turning around, she saw ponies coming out of their houses flapping their hands... for her. Even her friends were doing it. “That was amazing, Sapphire!” Spike exclaimed.

“Heavens to bestie, we knew you had ability, but not that much.” Applejack added. Sapphire lightly blushed at the comments. Star and Venom came up to her. Snowflake and Skystorm growled at her. Venom growled at them as well. “You may have bested me this time, Sapphire but I will have my revenge!” The crowd rolled their eyes at her. Sapphire lit her horn and she teleported Star and her stage away. “Good riddance.” Pinkie called happily.

The crowd laughed. “It appears Sapphire has been practicing with her shape shifting.” a voice said. Everybody turned and saw their majesties fluttering down to the ground. Everybody bowed to them and Grand Ruler approached Sapphire. “What are you two doing here?” Rainbow asked.

“We saw the whole battle thing from the palace. You were very brave taking on Sombra’s minions alone.” Celestia added. Her husband agreed, “Very well done, Sapphire. Using the environment to your advantage in battle.”

Sapphire smiled, “Just using what I've learned.” Spike came up to her with a smirk on his face. “Soooo. Ready to admit that you and your dragons are the most powerful in United Equestria?”

“Well... just at a standard. I can’t compete with their majesties in magic.” Sapphire replied. Everybody shared a chuckle.

Meanwhile, Sombra was looking at the footage via Frost’s magic. “Hmmm... I see this girl is honing in on her shape-shifting and magic.” He looked at his minions. “Well done, my minions. With this information we can plan our next attack, conquer United Equestria and destroy those ponies for good.” The minions smiled evilly and they laughed along with their master.

“With that girl under my control, destroying United Equestria will be a breeze.” Sombra laughed maliciously and the minions laughed along.

The next day, Sapphire was flying over New Ponyville on Snowflake and Skystorm watching life go on, despite the war. Children going to school and adults going to work. Citizens were made aware that the planet was once again cloaked under the cape of war, while some were shaking in fear, the rest were all confident that Starfleet and Friendship would prevail like they always did.

Once again, the laws of war were put into effect, and Starfleet patrols carried on all day. All officers continued to train hard to keep their strengths in check. Today, all the friends had received a letter from their majesties. The letters said that they and all of their friends were to come to New Canterlot Palace at once that day to discuss newer battle strategies to use against Sombra’s forces and Blaze, but also for training. Their majesties along with Professor Brain had worked hard on special spells and formulas to help for future battles, and today Lightning was to bring his teammates on Starfleet to have this new skill added to their weapons and train with them to get a new feel of things. Twilight and friends would need to brush up on their normal training as well.

After breakfast, all the ponies had met up, and Krysta warped them all to the palace. “Thanks, Krysta.” said Lightning. Krysta winked at him, and they were all announced into the throne room at once. The guards saluted to Admiral Lightning as they all made their way across and made their way to their majesties. They all exchanged bows of greeting, and Grand Ruler dismissed the guards.

They held their meeting immediately. Sapphire used her magic to replay footage of the last battle in holographic sparkling images. “That’s enough.” Grand Ruler said, and she made the images vanish. “It would now seem that we know what Blaze intends to do."

"Yes Master." Lightning said. "She obviously wants to destroy Sapphire." The dragons growled angrily at the mention of her name. "It's alright, girls." Sapphire cooed.

"Yeah, Blaze won't get near Sapphire." Fluttershy said. The dragons calmed down and rubbed against Sapphire.

"And what about Sombra?" Spike asked. "He may be after Sapphire too."

"For now, we don't know what Sombra is truly up to." Celestia replied. "Until then, Sapphire must keep up with her training."

"Yes your majesties." Sapphire replied.

With that, the meeting was over and the team went to the dojo to continue their training.

On Sombra's ship, he had called his three minions to his chamber. "As you know, that human girl is more powerful than we originally thought."

"Yeah, she kicked out butts the last time." Frost said. Flame growled in anger. "When I get my hands on her, she'll pay."

"Exactly which is why I want you three to capture her." Sombra agreed. "With her magic under our control, we'll conquer United Equestria easily."

The minions liked the sound of that. "Only one problem; what if her friends get wise about us?" Frost asked.

Flame smacked the demoncorn on the head, "Idiot! We'll strike her when she's all alone."

"Right Flame, now go and bring me that human." Sombra ordered. The minions nodded and exited his chamber. "Once that human is mine, Starfleet will fall to their knees." Sombra thought to himself and he laughed evilly.

Sapphire was flying over New Ponyville on Snowflake watching the ponies below go about their day. "Wanna do some trick flying, girl?" Sapphire offered. Snowflake roared in glee and Sapphire chuckled. "I'll take that as a yes. Let's do it!"

Snowflake shot up into the clouds and dove down towards an open field outside New Ponyville. Wind blowing in her mane and feeling the adrenaline rushing through her veins, Sapphire cried in joy, "WOO-HOOO!" Snowflake pulled up and soared and blinding speeds across the field. "YEAH!" Sapphire cried.

Snowflake did some flips in the air and weaving in and out of the trees in the field. Finally, Sapphire and Snowflake came to a stop in a clearing. Sapphire dismounted Snowflake. "Great work girl." she praised. The Light Fry smiled.

Hidden in a bush, the minions were watching her and her dragon. "Let's just rush them already." Breaker suggested.

"No you idiot, that will give us away." Frost replied. "We have to strike quietly."

"Alright let's move in." Flame said. The three minions started moving close using the brush to hide them.

Sapphire, completely unaware of the plot, was busy scratching behind Snowflake's head. The dragons purred, liking the scratches. "That's a good girl." she cooed.

Snap!

Snowflake growled and Sapphire looked around. "Wh-Whose there?" she called out.

There wasn't a response for a moment...

Just then, ice came and stuck Sapphire, trapping her from her neck down. "Ugh!" Snowflake leaped out of the way and watched as Flame, Frost and Breaker came out of the brush. "Haha! Got'cha!" Frost declared. Snowflake was about to use her magic to break out when Frost fired her ice magic at her, trapping her horn in the ice.

Snowflake readied a plasma blast at the minions when Flame used her magic to levitate Sapphire in front of them, stopping the attempt. "You wouldn't want to hurt your precious rider now, do you?" Breaker taunted. Snowflake hissed at them. She was about to pounce on them when Frost froze her legs to the ground, preventing her from rushing them. "Now then, we'll be delivering out capture to King Sombra, thank you very much." Flame stated, shocking Snowflake.

"See ya." Frost said. The minions teleported away. Snowflake tried to break the ice with her plasma blast, but the ice was too thick. She knew she had to alert someone, she she let out a loud roar hoping someone would hear her.

Lightning and his friends were on their patrol rounds when they all heard a loud roar echoing across the town. "What was that?" Starla asked.

"That sounded like Snowflake." Fluttershy said. "Something's wrong." The gang flew in the direction of the roar and found the Light Fury Dragon stuck to the floor. "Snowflake!" Lightning cried. The gang landed near the Light Fury. Dyno and Myte blasted the thick ice off of the Light Fury's legs. Snowflake immediately started looking around frantically and sniffing the ground.

"Snowflake, what's wrong?" Applejack asked.

Snowflake softly growled at the team and Fluttershy gasped.

"Fluttershy, my dear
What did you hear?" Rhymey asked.

"Snowflake said Frost, Flame and Breaker captured Sapphire and are going to take her to King Sombra!" Fluttershy exclaimed. The team gasped in horror. "We've gotta find her!" Pinkie screamed.

"But we don't know where they took her." Spike replied.

Suddenly, there was a loud noise.

Everyone turned to look way out beyond the clearing, and they could see a whole load of smoke in the distance along with a dragons' roar. "What's that?" Rainbow asked.

"Sounds like trouble." Buddy replied. "Come on, Sapphire might be there." The team agreed and they flew off with Snowflake following close behind.

"You didn't see thing big lizard, you moron!" Flame cried as she blasted the large dragon attacking them. Frost placed Sapphire away while he and his comrades dealt with the dragon.

The dragon was 61 feet long with a wingspan of 68 feet. It possessed a long, snakelike neck and tail. Unlike some other breeds of dragon, it has no forelegs, and its ground-based locomotion is similar to that of Pterosaurs, except that it has a lower profile due to its sprawled wings; it can use its claw-tipped wings to "crawl" along the floor. Their horns might be used as a visual display and in defense, but the swept back position of the horns means it is unlikely to use them in combat. Its stripe skin patterns seem to mimic that of a tiger's. Name: Monstrous Nightmare.

This one was purple and yellow.

The dragon roared at the four intruders of it's territory.

Frost blasted it with her fire but the dragon set itself on fire, destroying the ice instantly. That's when Lightning and the team showed up on the scene. "What in the galaxy is that thing?!" Artie cried.

"Whatever it is, it's distracting the minions. Let's move!" Lightning snapped. The team quietly flew down to Sapphire, who was now shivering. "G-G-Guys!"

"Oh my stars, Sapphire!" Rarity cried.

"Hang on chica, we'll get you out." Dyno said. He and his brother transformed and used "BOOM-BOOM FLARE!". The broke the ice and Sapphire almost fell to the ground if Snowflake hadn't caught her. "T-T-Thanks girl." she stammered.

The Monstorus Nightmare blasted the minions with her fire, sending them flying back. Getting back up, Frost turned behind her. "Hey! What are you pest doing here?!" She cried. The other turned and gasped in shock. "Rescuing our friend, that's what. And if I were you, I'd leave." Starla said. The Monstrous Nightmare growled at the three minions. "You won't hold on to Sapphire forever, we will capture her one of these days!" Breaker declared and he and his comrades teleported away.

The Monstrous Nightmare calmed down and looked at the team. "Thanks." Lightning said to it. The dragons nodded, turned and walked further into her territory. "Come on, let's get Sapphire warmed up." Artie said, seeing Sapphire shivering even more.

The team took her to Mykan's house where she was wrapped in blanket. "Thanks." she said.

"Well, now we know Sombra is after you." Spike said with worry.

"Yeah
