Starfleet Magic: Season 1 (Rewrite)
Episode 7: The Music in You
Previous ChapterNext ChapterToday, on planet United Equestria, in the training grounds of New Canterlot Palace, new recruits to the force were doing their morning warmups, and sparing.
All were under the watchful eyes of Commander Lightning Dawn, Krysta, Sapphire, Snowflake, Skystorm and their royal majesties, Grand Ruler Celesto and Queen Celestia, and they were growing quite concerned at what they were seeing…!
Some of the new recruits had begun to slip up, and do poorly at their training-- they couldn’t seem to hold their stances, stay focused on targets, or channel their inner strength and energy good enough.
“What’s the matter with them?” Krysta wondered aloud.
Down below in the training yard, some of the cadets began to fumble and fall flat on their faces.
“No, no, no…!” cried the instructor “Come on cadets, try again.”
“What’s the point?” snapped one Equestrian pony.
The instructor took no pity with their whining “That’s fool talk! We don’t train whiners here in Starfleet we train you to be strong in body and in mind. Now you shake off this fool talk and you try again.”
So the cadets continued to train.
Lightning sighed with dismay at all this, “If those cadets keep losing their confidence, they’ll never make the force. They’d be useless in the fields and be easy targets for their enemies.”
"Maybe and the dragons can help them?" Sapphire suggested. Celestia turned to her. "How so?"
"May I go down there?"
"Lightning?"
"Well, if she says she can help, I say give her a chance."
"Yeah, come on girls." Sapphire and her dragons flew down to the training grounds. “CHAAAAAAAAAAARGE…!!” the instructor shouted, and the cadets all rushed forth to attack their dummy targets while dodging light blasts shot at them.
“Steady on!
Dodge the blasts!
Hit your targets clean in the middle!”
Suddenly, all the cadets began to fumble from trying too hard, or lack of confidence. They all ran into each other, got hit by the blasts, and a few cadets went sailing up over the walls.
“NO!! NO… NO!!!” cried the instructor.
All the cadets lay about, groaning and moaning, and as usual many of them felt there was no point. The cadets still didn’t feel it would make a difference. The instructor sighed, fearing this couldn’t go on much longer; the cadets always doubting themselves and failing to meet expectations and make the grade.
She feared if something wasn’t done soon, Starfleet and the royal guard would come to a serious disaster in future. "Maybe we can lead some assistance?" a voice said. The instructor and cadets turned and saw Sapphire and her dragons. The cadets stared in awe at the sight of them. "Lieutenant Sapphire, what are you doing here?" asked the instructor.
Snowflake landed on the ground and Sapphire dismounted her, "I'm want to help with the cadets' confidence problem."
The instructor sighed, "Good Luck." Sapphire stood in front of the cadets, whom were too shocked to even speak, being in presents. "Now cadets, I now that you have a confidence problem, but I'm here to tell you not to give up."
"Why? We'll never be as good as Commander Lightning as his friends." one cadet said.
"Well, I'll explain it to you... in song." Music began playing as Sapphire broke into song.

Snowflake and Skystorm got out two guitars and, to everybody's shock, actually began playing the guitars to the song!
"Well that's new." Krysta said.
Sapphire went into the swarm of cadets and began dancing with a few random ones as they all got to the rhythm of the beat. As she was dancing, Sapphire lit her horn and blasted one of the targets and gestured for the cadets to go for it once more. She pointed to the cadets and they all rushed forth.
“Steady on!
Dodge the blasts!
Hit your targets clean in the middle!”
This time, the cadets didn't fumble, run into each other or went sailing over the walls. The instructor and those watching were surprised. The cadets cheered and danced along to the music even more.
Sapphire was dancing to the song as a small stream of magic came out of her mouth and swerved in between the cadets, much to their amazement.
As the song played the cadets, got the message through her musical production. They have the spark to be great in Starfleet maybe not as good as Commander Lightning, but good enough to help defend their homeworld from threats. Their majesties, Lightning and Krysta were very impressed with her singing abilities and the song's message. The song ended and the cadets felt a lot better. "Now do you get it?" she asked them. Getting nods in response.
"Good." Sapphire turned to the instructor, "I think you'll get more pleasing results."
"Thank you Lieutenant Sapphire."
Sapphire nodded and she and her dragons flew back up to their majesties, Lightning and Krysta. "Excellent Sapphire." Lightning praised.
"Yes, very well done." Grand Ruler added. Sapphire smiled, "Your welcome."
"Now we don't have to worry in the future." Celestia said.
Sapphire grinned, "Glad I could help." Sapphire went off with her dragons.
"... So about the singing magic?" Krysta brought up. "That's something new for her."
"Yep, I've never seen singing magic before." Lightning stated.
"Well, have to study this new for of magic. The question is how?" Celestia said.
"What about that singing competition this afternoon?" Krysta suggested.
The Star Singer competition is and singing competition where ponies enter and try to win a trophy. Their majesties were to be the judges for the competition. "That would give us a chance to study her singing." Lightning agreed.
"Indeed, we will go along with that plan." Grand Ruler stated. Lightning agreed. He and Krysta flew off to find Sapphire.
Meanwhile, on Sombra's ship, he saw everything on the montitors. "So the girl has singing magic too huh?" Sombra hissed. "Well, I won't mind if I have a part of that."
"Flame, I want you to use this special spell I conjured up." Sombra made a scroll appeared in front of Flame, whom unraveled it. "What is it?"
"It's a special spell that will steal any creatures' voice. I want you to steal that human's voice for me."
"Yes Master." Flame said. "And to help you, I've created this." Sombra presented Flame a guitar that was made of dark magic. It was black and purple smoke coming out of it. "Woah." She grasped the guitar and a strap came out and around her her neck. "When you play the guitar it will emit another spell that will place anyone who hears it under it's spell. Now go, and don't disappoint me." Flame nodded and she teleported away.
Sapphire, meanwhile, were at Mykan's house reading her Book of Dragons with Mykan. "So the Monstrous Nightmare is the most stubborn dragon?" Mykan asked.
"Yep, most stubborn and aggressive dragon." Sapphire replied. Snowflake rubbed against Mykan's legs. "Hehe, hi Snowflake." Mykan cooed. He petted Snowflake on the head. The Light Fury purred at his touch.
Just then, the alarms went off and screams were heard from outside. "Trouble." Sapphire grumbled.
Mykan and Sapphire ran outside with the dragons and saw Flame roaming the streets. "Ah, my target has arrived." she hissed.
"What do you want Flame?" Mykan hissed.
"I'll show you what I want." Flame blasted Sapphire with the spell. Her mouth opened and a ball of magic came out and into a jar Flame was holding. Sapphire fell to the floor and Flame closed the jar. "Hehehe, easier than I thought." she flew away while Mykan and the dragons tended to Sapphire. Lightning and the other arrived. "Mykan, Sapphire, what happened?!" Lightning asked.
Sapphire sat up and opened her mouth to speak... but no sound came out. She looked surprised and she tried to yell... nothing. "What's up with Sapphire?" Rainbow asked.
"Flame blasted her with some kind of spell. And I think she took her voice!" Mykan exclaimed. The friends gasped in shock. Sapphire tried to speak again but once again nothing came out. She finally gave up and looked sad. "Don't worry, Sapphire, we'll get your voice back." Lightning promised.
"But why would Flame steal her voice?" Fluttershy asked.
"Something tells me Sombra somehow knows about Sapphire's singing magic. So he sent Flame to steal her voice cause without her voice-" Lightning started.
"Her singing magic would be useless." Starla finished. "And she can't battle; remember she needs her voice to activate her weapons and transform." The team realized the seriousness of the situation. Without Sapphire in battle, the team would considerably weaker. Sapphire looked down in the dumps. Fluttershy patted her on the back. 'Don't worry Sapphire, we'll get your voice back." Sapphire tried to smile but it just turned back into a frown.
"Mykan, can you take her to your house?" Lightning asked. Mykan nodded and he took Sapphire home while the others searched for Flame. Mykan layed Sapphire on the couch and she breathed out, like a sigh. Mykan, Snowflake and Skystorm felt pity on her. "Lightning and the others will get your voice back, Sapphire." he reassured.
That didn't cheer Sapphire up one bit. Snowflake then took out the guitar she was playing before and presented it to Sapphire. Her rider looked at her, curiously. Snowflake nudged the guitar to her. Sapphire picked up and she began playing the guitar. It made her feel considerably better.
Lightning and the others landed in New Ponyville and found the civilians with their eyes glowing green. "What's with these ponies?" Rainbow asked.
"Hello, Losers." a voice called. The team looked and saw Flame holding her guitar and the jar with Sapphire's voice. "Flame, give us back Sapphire's voice." Lightning demanded.
"As if Commander. I would worry more about yourselves. Once I hit you with this music, you'll be fully under my control. Hahaha!" Flame shredded on the guitar and a beam of magic flew towards the ponies. They dodged it but Flame continued blasting at them.
Sapphire was still gently playing her guitar when she sensed something and perked up. "Sapphire, what's wrong?" Mykan asked. Sapphire got up, carrying the guitar and flew out the door. "Sapphire, wait!" Mykan called as he and the dragons flew after her. They made it to New Ponyville where they saw Flame firing at Lightning and the team with her guitar. "Oh-no, that's not good." Mykan said. "We've gotta help them." He was about fly down there when Sapphire held him back with her magic. "Sapphire!"
Sapphire wrote letter in the air with her magic. "If you go down there you'll be placed under her spell like the civilians if you get blasted with her guitar." Mykan said aloud. "But how else can we help them?"
Sapphire gently glided down to the battlefield. "Sapphire?"
She landed behind Flame whom was too busy blasting at the team to realize. Sapphire took a deep breath and shredded on her guitar hard. The sound produced magical soundwaves that actually knocked Flame off her feet, smashed the jar and broke the spell on the civilians. Flame growled as she got up. "Who did that?"
Sapphires' voice floated up and over to Sapphire and into her mouth. She glowed brightly as everybody looked on in awe. "No!" Flame cried. When the light died down, Sapphire looked at Flame. "Looks like your plan failed, Flame." she said with her voice returned.
Lightning and the others smiled at her. Flame grunted, "You wanna battle, huh?" She readied her guitar while Sapphire did the same. "You're on, Flame." Sapphire challenged. Sapphire's energizer glowed and fired a beam at the guitar. It glowed brightly and gained the Starfleet insignia on top of the head stock. The strings turned white while the body turned black. The waist also turned white. "Woah." Starla gasped.
"You think that little trick will stop me?" Flame taunted. Sapphire strummed the guitar hard and the soundwaves threw Flame to the ground once again. "Yes, Yes I do." Flame growled and shredded her guitar sending a blast towards Sapphire. Sapphire strummed softly and the guitar made a shield around her, bouncing the attack back towards Flame, whom leaped out of the way. The shield vanished and Sapphire blasted Flame with her own magic.
"Now to finish you this." And she played the same song she sang to the cadets.

The soundwaves from her guitar spread all around New Ponyville. The ponies, including Mykan, the dragons, Lightning and the team, danced to the music. Flame tried to blast Sapphire, but the soundwaves actually repelled the blast. Sapphire aimed her guitar at Flame and the guitar sent a beam at Flame's guitar, actually breaking it apart, destroying it in a small explosion. "What?! No?!" Flame cried.
Flame retreated, knowing she couldn't win this fight. Sapphire stopped the song and the civilians cheered loudly for her, including her friends. She just stood there proudly.
That late afternoon, the singing competition began. Ponies and other creatures came from all over United Equestria to either watch or participate. Many ponies and creatures played their own songs in solos or partners. Their majesties picked three finalist for the final round.
Sapphire, Pinkie Pie and... Star.
Yep, the pony had returned to once again beat Sapphire in a competition.... even though everybody knew she would lose to Sapphire anyway.
Star was up. She sang a song about... well... herself.

When she was done the crowd cheered loudly for her. Sapphire was up next. She wore a pretty dress that Rarity made her. It was a rainbow colored dress with ribbons coming around her waist. Her hair had been straightened and was hanging down near her shoulders.
(Like this, but for her humanoid body)

Star came backstage with a smirk on her face. "Beat that, Sapphire."
"She can and she will." a voice said. The girls turned and saw Mykan dressed in tuxedo coming to Sapphire's side. "Mykan, what are you doing here?" Sapphire asked.
"I'm here to sing with you." Mykan replied. Sapphire smiled, "Really?" Mykan nodded while Star huffed and walked off.
"Sapphire and Mykan, you two are up." the announcer called.
Sapphire silently gulped, "Don't worry, you'll be fine." Mykan reassured. Sapphire nodded and they both went out of stage. Music began to play as she took a deep breath and began singing.
(Start at 1:17:58. End at 1:19:25)

The crowd went wild and roared with applause. Sapphire only smiled while blushing.
The last three finalist walked out to the stage. "Alright judges, do we have a winner?"
Their majesties looked at each other and nodded. Together they said, "The winner or winners are... Sapphire and Mykan!"
Sapphire and Mykan gasped and high-five each other. Star scoffed and walked off of the stage, humiliated. The crowd cheered loudly in excitement. Luna came out on stage and gave the two their trophy. The two couldn't help but smile at each other.
After the competition. Sapphire was playing her guitar in front of everybody and they were having a good time. Their majesties were even jamming to the rhythm of the song with Lightning and the team.
