"I can't believe she fucking did that in front of the whole school!" Lightning Dust bitched as she grabbed her books from her locker.

"Yeah, well cry me a fucking river." Gilda said as she closed her locker door. "You ask me, this whole school has been fucked up ever since that bitch, Sunset Shimmer, showed up. I mean she just happens to luck out by showing up a few weeks after both Starlight Glimmer and Tempest Shadow end up getting expelled and is not only ruling the school few months later, but manages to snag the crown at the fall formal."

"I told you we shouldn't have waited for Rainbow Dash join and taken over the school while it was still a fucking mess, but no, you were to busy trying to get into her panties to pay attention." Lightning Dust said with a smirk. "Tell me how well that worked out for you? Did she scream your name all night long or....urk!"

Gilda saw red as she grabbed her by the throat, lifted her off the ground, and slammed her into the lockers. "Just keep pushing my fucking buttons and find out what fucking happens bitch." Gilda growled before dropping her. "Besides you didn't do shit either. You just sat around on your lazy ass and expected me to do all the work instead of grabbing all the other Storm Kings and doing it yourself."

"At... least... I... didn't end up getting humiliated by that little fag, Zephyr Breeze." Lightning Dust gasped.

"No, you just got bitch slapped by a cripple." Gilda said before turning to head to class. "Like I said, try dealing with it yourself instead of waiting for someone else to do it for you."

Lightning rubbed her sore throat before saying, "Maybe I will."

"What should we read..." Sunset had been asking Jenny when she just froze up.

Looking around, Jenny saw various students and a book the girl named Lyra had dropped frozen in place. She had been about to do something she wasn't suppose to do unless it was an emergency when the door opened and she smiled as she jumped out of her seat and raced over yelling. "Mr. Grey! Mrs. Grey!" With that she leapt into the Man in Grey's arms before leaning over and kissing the Lady in Grey's check.

"My goodness." The Lady in Grey said as she looked at Jenny Corwin. "Have you shrank since the last time we saw you?"

"I think it is more along the lines of this little Guardian living in linear time while we tend to approach time with more dimensions than she can begin to imagine and the best that a human mind can think of as a way to wrap their heads around it would be the geometric shape called a myriagon." The Man in Grey explained.

"Huh?" Jenny said.

"Just think of it as you seeing time as a straight line and we see it as more than just that. Even something as simple as three dimensional wouldn't even come close since we see pasts that might have been, futures that exist yet don't exist at the same time, thousands of presents that are happening, just not here and that we could skip in and out of whenever we desire as well as shift what didn't happen and what did to suit our needs. To us it is normal, but from your perspective we skip around randomly in time and the last time we saw you was when you are about 15 years old and next time we see you might be when your 39 years old." The Lady in Grey said. "Not that it will matter since the Kessho Gem will stop your aging when you are somewhere around 25 years old, unless you gain it later in life like John who is now permanently somewhere around 40 years old."

"Speaking of John, why did you have him be the one to come for me?" Jenny asked before adding. "Not that I'm complaining, but the guy seems off compared to most superheroes I've met."

Both of them shared a look as the Man in Grey set her down. Finally the Man in Grey said. "John had already been looking into dimensional travel and would have reached your version of Earth eventually. The reality is we only nudged him in the right direction after THEY insisted on it being him to go get you so you would only be alone for a few months instead of years."

"THEY were very insistent that it be him." The Lady in Grey added.

"As for him being off." The Man in Grey continued. "Well it's because his version of Earth is a bit more confusing when it comes to superheroes and supervillains. His world had the usual heroes out to save the day and villains that are just super powered criminals out for a quick buck. The thing is is that His world also had supervillains that follow certain rules and actually did a better job at saving the world than the heroes. Then there were the more numerous superheroes that saw it as a stepping stone to fame, fortune, and careers in politics, acting, or business. Notice I said were, as in past tense, because now there are only a handful of hold outs, but mostly the title of villain and hero has fallen to the wayside after they fought off the Empress and the Fae Invasion."

"Also, with the exception of the Invasion, Corwin Tech, Corwin Medical, Corwin Industrial, and Corwin Inc. saves more people per year than he ever did by putting on the mask." The Lady in Grey explained, "For instance Corwin Tech is responsible for reducing yearly fatal automotive accidents Globally to just a few hundred by creating a force field technology that could actually fit inside of a small car and replaced bumpers, airbags, and seat belts. Corwin Medical introduced the worlds first commercially viable and publicly available cybernetics, artificial blood, and synthetic organs and skin grafts. Corwin Industrial worked out the composition of the materials the Fae ships were made of and not only reproduced it, but improved upon it which aloud them to help rebuild better and fast than before the Invasion. Finally there is Corwin Inc. that made superhero, supervillain, and alien technology available to the public like the deck of cards sized medipacks and cheap contragravity belts."

"So your saying he saves more people by being a business man and an inventor than as a hero?" Jenny asked.

"Sort of, but that doesn't mean he doesn't get involved and deal with things every once in a while." The Lady in Grey said while giving The Man in Grey a look that spoke volumes.

"Yes, but he will still use his powers and wear the mask and suit if needed." The Man in Grey said. "Of course his suit and mask are more for practical reasons like extra protection and he could care less about the psychological effect of seeing him in it has on others." He then tapped Jenny's chest and said. "The Kessho Gem does protect you to a certain extent and, as you found out first hand, it can bring you back from the dead." Jenny couldn't help but shiver as she remembered feeling like every nerve in her body had been dipped in acid and liquid nitrogen before being set on fire while being electrocuted at the same time. Even dying had not been as bad as the Kessho Gem bringing her back to life and she had died of decompression and reentry without a ship and huge tears in her spacesuit and a cracked helmet.

Seeing the distressed look on Jenny's face the Lady in Grey hugged her and said. "THEY made it horrible so Guardians like you and John wouldn't abuse it, but actively try to avoid dying and that is one of the least painful limits THEY put into them. John can guide you through earning the right to not having those limits, just remember that the first Guardian didn't have any limits and went mad with the power. He went from being one of the greatest heroes ever to a tyrannical monster so bad that THEY had to actually deal with him and we still don't know how many universes were destroyed in the fight, but the best guess is somewhere in the trillions."

"Speaking of universe destroying monsters, we need to finish searching for new Guardian candidates so one of them can bear and wield a Kessho Gem. We've found a several good candidates protect this and the surrounding universes before one of the more parasitic, dimension hopping, races realize how long this part of the multiverse has been unprotected and decide it would make a perfect meal." The Man in Grey said.

"Umm... What happens to my universe if I'm not there?" Jenny asked as the Lady in Grey let her go.

"Your's? Nothing, it actually was already protected since it already has a Guardian." The Man in Grey told her. "Your universe got to at once because it's on the priority list and we generally try to overlap Guardians of priority universes long before the old Guardian retires by a few million years." He then explained. "This universe is in a relatively safe area of the multiverse and kept getting pushed back in favor of priority universes until it just ended up with no one for around about a few centuries. We wouldn't have even noticed if it wasn't for all the activity with the portal somewhere around this school. Normally that would be worrying, but the ruler on the other side is good and her people tend to behave themselves, with a few misguided exceptions." With that he looked directly at a frozen Sunset Shimmer and added, "But even then they can eventually be brought back into the herd sooner or later."

"As much as we would love to enjoy staying here for a while longer we need to get back to our search." The Lady in Grey said before handing Jenny a philosophy book and asked. "Could you give this to Sunset for me?"

Jenny went back to her seat and watched as they left before Sunset said "... this time?"

"Well someone asked me to give you this." Jenny said before handing Sunset a copy of The Passion of The Soul by Rene Descartes.

Looking at the book Sunset gave everyone else in the room a flat look and said. "Ha ha ha! I thought you guys got this out of your system months ago."

At first the girl had been gauging the reaction to the return of their little surprise, but they had been more of a fizzle than actually causing any trouble that could be used to oust the principle and her sister. That had been when she saw something odd, Derpy had just dropped her muffin and then she was still holding it as if nothing had happened. She then started to pay more attention and she could have sworn Trixie had been facing the other way with fake flowers, only now she had real flowers and giving them to Starlight Glimmer.

After seeing the new teachers kid change position in her seat and holding a book she didn't have before she knew something strange was going on. Unfortunately she couldn't put her finger on it, but with this school it might just be magic.

As she walked to her next class she wondered what her partner wanted to talk to her about. From the sound of her voice it most likely had something to do with their mysterious backers. She knew something about them scared her, but she refused to tell what it was and she had a bad feeling that she really didn't want to know. She also stop by her locker and grabbed her sweater with an orange rook embroidered on it since she was feeling cold. It and the thought of all of these idiots learning there place beneath her heel just warmed her heart.

Author's Note

This Chapter still doesn't feel right, but after several rewrites that were worse I'm just going to go with this and push on to the next chapter where Taco Tuesday and maybe a sober Adagio awaits.

I felt this would be a good chapter to touch on the source of John and Jenny's powers. An outside view of John and his world, the fact that John is from a superhero world that has moved beyond the concept of heroes and villains. I didn't mention it, but after the invasion of his version of Earth, John threw himself into rearming the military with enough weaponry, spaceships, and technology that the next 10 alien races would seriously consider finding anyone other than us to invade. I also touched on the fact that the Kessho Gems might bring them back from the dead, but in a way that discourages abusing it.

Bonus Points if you notice something about the Greys when talking about John.

Also a clue as to who is one half of Anon-a-miss.

This is the closest I could find for a myriagon.
