Burning on the inside
Chapter 1: The burned village
Load Full StoryA dark grey unicorn with a spiky white mane was running along a dirt path, in the direction of the village he lived in.
"Mom, Dad, please be alright!" Blaze exclaimed as he ran full speed towards his village
As he continued to run at full speed in the direction of his village, he heard a loud explosion erupt from some distance away. Hearing this caused his adrenaline to increase, as he continued to push himself to run faster. Once he caught sight of his home town, he could see most of the town's houses on fire.
Upon reaching the town he was greeted with a pungent smell of burning wood. Navigating his way to where his house was through the thick smoke and burning piles of rubble he saw several ponies lying on the ground, dead, some were lying in their own pools of blood. He immediately recognized some of the faces of the dead ponies, some were stabbed, some were burned from the fire, one was even decapitated. His stomach started churn, he wanted to vomit but nothing came.
He kept moving through the burned town, occasionally seeing a dead pony every few hundred feet, he kept running until he finally reached his house. What he saw caused him to break down crying, his parents were hanging from ropes that were attached to the front of the house, stab marks all over their bodies. Blaze's sobs were interrupted by the sound of sick, evil laughter behind him. He turned to see a small group of ponies in leather armor, one of them was wearing a full suit of metal armor, the leader.
"Look here boys, seems we didn't kill the vermin in this town" the stallion in the metal armor said with a malice grin.
Blaze didn't speak, he didn't move, he just stared at the group of mercenaries laughing, mocking on how helpless he looked. His thoughts here empty for a brief moment, until he heard a voice, a familiar deep, demonic violent voice, one that he knew, throughout his entire life. The voice that always told him to do wrong, the voice that ate away at his innocence as a young colt, and the one who told him to use his fire magic, to make others suffer.
The voice echoed in the shadows of his mind, "Kill them, kill them, slaughter them all!"
He knew that it wouldn't be right to do so, or maybe he was just using that thought to use as an excuse to not fight. Deep down his anger was gnawing at him trying to break out of its cage.
"Whatever, just kill him boys" the leader ordered, trotting away.
A few seconds later the metal armored pony heard the screams of his comrades.
"What the?" he said turning around and trotting back to where he had ordered his troops to kill the young unicorn.
He gasped in shock as he found all his troops being burned alive. Blaze's horn was glowing and eyes were emitting a dark red color which was almost complete opposite of his normally green colored eyes , with a look of pure rage, directed at the leader. As the armored stallion watched in pure terror, Blaze started to walk towards him. He tried to run but tripped on a wooden board, Blaze shortly caught up to him, grabbing the leader in his magic. The leader thrashed and squirmed as Blaze just stood there, levitating the leader with his magic not speaking.
"Yes, kill him, make him pay for what he's done!" the voice said with malice.
"Let me go!" the leader said with fear in his voice.
Blaze slowly turned his head to and saw a barn that hadn't completely burned down, we started to trot over inside with the leader in his grasp, still struggling to get free. Upon reaching the barn Blaze saw a variety or tools and other devices that could be excellent to use for torture,
"The chain, use the chain, make him die slowly! make him suffer!" the dark voice commanded.
Blaze set the leader down and used his magic to levitate a long, rusty chain. The leader scrambled to his hooves and tried to run away, but Blaze caught him with his magic and levitated the chain and proceeded to fasten it around the stallions neck. Once Blaze was done he levitated the stallion and attached the other end of the chain to a wooden plank on the roof of the barn, and released his magic's grip.
The stallion thrashed choked on the chain that was fastened around his neck, struggling to stay alive. Blaze watched as the stallion's movements became slower, and slower, until he breathed his last breath. Blaze walked out of the barn and stopped a couple yards away, he turned around and shot a massive fireball, destroying a good portion of the barn. Blaze then proceeded to walk away from the burning barn, onto a hill overlooking the village.
"You have done well Blaze" the voice echoed in Blaze's head.
"Snap out of it!" Blaze mentally shouted to himself.
"You cannot block me out forever, i will be back!" the voice said as its demonic laughter echoed in Blaze's head.
The laughter slowly began to fade from his mind, after regaining his composure, Blaze collapsed on the ground, tears streaming down his face, as the feelings of guilt and sadness washed over him. He turned his head and looked at his cutie mark, a red skull of a pony with a pair of fiery wings. A symbol of pure hatred. A symbol his inner demon gave to him.
As rain drops started to descend from the clouds overhead Blaze sat up, wiping the tears from his face. He needed to get somewhere away from the burning village, somewhere different where he can try to get his mind off the recent events. Blaze started to walk in the direction opposite of the village, trying not to look back at the burned past he was leaving behind.
About an hour of walking along the dirt road, Blaze came upon a crossroad sign with wooden arrows that had names of cities on them. He had never heard of any of these places, so it was difficult to know which ones were good and ones that were not so good. The signs read: Ponyville: north, Las Pegasus: east, Appleoosa: south, and Baltimare: west.
He couldn't help but realize how odd the names of these towns were called, In fact, they actually sounded kinda ridiculous. After seeing all his options he decided to head north towards ponyville, and try his luck there.
