Octavia's P.O.V

I rubbed my eyes as I rose from my deep slumber. I looked to my right to find Vinyl, just to see nothing there, she must've woken up before me. I hope I didn't make bad impression by waking up late.

I put on my tie and walk downstairs. Is that the smell of pancakes? I rush down see that it was.And it was amazing. Around 50 pancakes piled up on to each other. I start walking towards the tower.

"Hey, looks like our very own sleeping beauty finally woke up!" I look behind me and I see Catchy, Iris and Vinyl, all chuckling.
"What's so funny?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.
"Oh, it's nothing!" Responded Catchy "It's just that you're acting like you've never eaten pancakes!"
"I- I haven't," Now that was a white lie. I have eaten pancakes once, but that was when I was a mere foal.

It was my birthday, back when my parents were together, I had asked mother if I could have pancakes for breakfast.

For the first time she had said yes and I was absolutely overjoyed. The cooks prepared it immediately, so by the time I finished my shower and was at the bottom of the stairs, the pancakes were finished. They smelled DIVINE! I sat down on my chair, looking towards the monument.

I looked to my right, my father was eating apple pie. I looked to my left, my mother was eating quail eggs and caviar. Same as always, I sigh.

I lift up my fork. Silver and ornate, just how mother likes it. I hold it above the pancakes. And I stab them. As my mind wonders what it'll taste like, I hold it towards my mouth...

It was nice. Like, not the best thing I've ever had, but it wasn't bad. Of course I didn't tell this to my mother, she would be livid. But it felt to me, that the pancake was missing something but I never knew what it was...

I snap back to the present. It turns out that whilst I was back in my past, my in-laws added what seemed like a million things on the pancakes. Blueberries, marshmallows, Syrup, Sprinkles... And are those sliced bananas I see?

My eyes widen as I stare up and down, in awe of this towering work of art. After adding the finishing touches, Catchy said "There is no way in Tartarus, that I'm letting someone marry my daughter, without eating a single pancake" Vinyl simply nodded "Dig in"

She hands me fork and knife. I'm supposed eat this whale of a breakfast, by myself, with these miniscule tools! I take a deep breath...

STAB! I skillfully slice up a portion of pancake, making sure that it has most of the topping on it. And by Celestia, it looks heavenly.

I look to my left and right, seeing that both my wife and my in-laws are waiting for my reaction. So I took a bite. Then another. And another. I couldn't stop, it was too good.

It was like I ate the softest pillow in the world and it explode into pure sugar. It was like Pinkie Pie threw all the best products SugarCube Corner into my mouth. In other words, it was delicious!

I look at Catchy, and I realised what was missing in those pancakes I had all those years back... It was a mothers love. Something that my mother was devoid of.

I start finishing off the gargantuan meal until Catchy said "Sooo, when's your flight?"
"Oh it's at half past is one, why?"
"Because it's one o'clock..." I quickly turn around to look at the clock, and sure enough it was 1 o'clock.
"Vinyl! We need pack up! Quick!" I shouted. But in a surprising turn of events, Vinyl and Iris came in with the suitcases, all fully packed "Don't tell me you..."

"Yeah, we did! Consider it a small gift from me and Catchy!" That was- that was so generous of them! Kind even! To think that they showed such loyalty to me and Vinyl! Honestly, this family has made my life so magical and full of laughter!

I start tearing up and I can feel the questioning looks fall upon me. "Vinyl, is Octavia one of those mares who like to pack up by themselves?" I heard Iris say.

"It's not that Iris, it's just that no one has ever done something so nice for me". I respond "You all have made me feel- you've made me feel like I'm finally part of something!"

Catchy rests her hoof on my shoulder, "You're part of our family Octavia, you always will be" Iris and Vinyl come towards us, and we all share a hug, "Anyway, I think it's time for you to go now".

"Yes, you're right! Come on Vinyl, we have a flight to catch!" I grabbed two of the suitcases and started headed out the door. "Catchy, Iris, I want to thank you, for everything" They both nodded and smiled.

As I stepped out of the house, I looked at Vinyl and said "Well Vinyl, I hope you're mentally prepared. It's time to meet my parents!"
