Rinse & Repeat
By Amorous

"Pinkie?" The purple unicorn asked, waving her hoof in front of the seemingly spaced out pony's face. She waited for a moment before calling her again, "Pinkie? Pinkie!" Her voice got louder.
"Hu-huh- what!?" Pinkie Pie finally snapped out of her thoughts, shaking her head quickly to regain her senses. "Twilight? What're you doing here?" Her tone wasn't pumped up and hyper as usual, she seemed very serious in her question.
"Here to pick up that order of diamond studded cupcakes?" Twilight raised a brow.
Pinkie paused for a second before smiling wide, "Silly Twilight! Ponies can't eat diamonds!" She exclaimed as if it were all too obvious.
"They're for Spike. His birthday is coming up in a few days, remember?"
Her eyes widened, she had completely forgotten. Jumping up on her hooves, she dashed into the kitchen quick as a flash, leaving Twilight alone to stand in bewilderment at her pink friend's sudden jolt for only a few seconds as she returned. Pinkie Pie quickly placed the box cupcakes on the counter, looking extremely nervous.
"Pinkie Pie, are you okay? You look like you've just seen a ghost!" Her now concerned friend asked, trotting up to the counter and cocking her head to the side a bit as she stared at the now sweaty and shaky looking mare before her.
"No, Twilight, I’m not okay!" The pink pony yelled out, jumping into the air as she did. "I completely forgot it was gonna be Spike’s birthday!" She started running in place as she looked straight at Twilight, "Igottagethimsomethingorillbetheworstfriendever!"
Twilight hadn't understood that last part.
"Pinkie, you've still got a couple of days to get him something, it'll be fine." She spoke in a gentle voice, smiling reassuringly towards her panicked friend.
Almost as if Pinkie hadn't heard her, she continued her rambling. "What kind of party pony forgets her friend's birthday?! That's, like, the exact opposite of what a party pony does!" She yelled, sinking down into the floor, her mane only seconds away from flattening down with her. Suddenly, her eyes seemed to go void and vacant. "It's just that... with everything that's been happening, it slipped my mind... I'm sorry, Spike.." Her ears flopped down, and she stared aimlessly at the floor, mumbling incoherently.
Twilight was at a loss for words now. She had rarely ever seen a pony get this depressed in such a mere amount of time, and she hadn't expected Pinkie Pie, of all ponies, to be the one acting like this. She knew there was something much deeper going on, but what it was, she couldn't place a hoof on.
"Pinkie," She started, walking over to the distressed mare. "Is.. is there something else bothering you? You're never like this, what's wrong?" Twilight asked, pure concern in her voice as she placed a hoof on her friend's shoulder.
Pinkie took one look at Twilights face, and her facial expression went from sadness to hesitance, to a smile. Just like that, the party mare seemed to switch back into her usual self. "No worries, Twilight, I'm fine!" She reassured, jumping up back to her hooves. "And you're right, I do still have time, and I'll make sure Spike has the most amazing, best, most fun, most SUPER birthday party ever!" The thrilled mare began bouncing up and down again.
It was obvious to the unicorn that Pinkie Pie was faking her adrenalized tone of voice, usually, the joy in Pinkie's attitude seemed to flow, it was natural- but this time it wasn't. The way she spoke did not sound authentic, and it gave Twilight a chill down her spine. She knew her friend wasn't okay, and she needed to find out why.
"Are you sure you're alright? If there's something wrong, you can always come and talk to me, you know that."
Pinkie Pie's brows furrowed for a moment, before she pushed the order into Twilights chest suddenly, "I'm fine, Twilight." Her voice still carried the mares joyful sound, but with a was stern and almost threatening undertone. "I just need to finish these orders, do you mind?" It was not a question. Before Twilight could speak, she found herself being pushed out of the bakery by the seemingly offended mare. Almost as soon as she had entered the place, she was being kicked out. Right as she turned around to try and speak to her friend once more, the door was slammed shut and Pinkie Pie had trotted away.
What is up with her today? Twilight wondered, making her way back to the library with the box of cupcakes in her magical grasp. She had to talk to the others, maybe one of them would have an idea of what's going on with Pinkie.
Meanwhile, in the bakery, Pinkie Pie stared down at the ovens, once again lost deep in thought. Had she been too hard on Twilight? Her having a bad day was no excuse for being so mean towards somepony who was only trying to help her! She really hoped Twilight wouldn't hold it against her, but could she blame her? Now and again, Pinkie would randomly snap at others at the drop of a hat for seemingly no reason at all. She pulled down the opening to the oven and shoved a batch of unbaked red velvet cupcakes in, pausing and staring for a moment. Oddly enough, she found herself fighting back tears the longer she stared, and she knew why.
Blinking and shaking her head harshly, she slammed the oven door shut with a loud clang! Turning away from the wretched batch and making her way to the cabinets, quickly opening them and searching for... something, anything that would distract her. Soon, she found that they were running low on apples. Apples. They needed more apples, that's what they needed. Apples...
The thought of it made her think of her good friend Applejack, who she now knew she'd be visiting today. For apples. And nothing else. Nothing else. No crying, sobbing, screaming, hoping. Just apples. She slowly closed the cabinets and looked back at the oven, it would take about 20-30 minutes until the batch of disgusting cupcakes were done, that gave her enough time to make a quick trip to Sweet Apple Acres and pick up what she needed. What she needed was apples, that was all. Again, her eyes stood fixed on the oven, and if she stood close enough to it, she could feel the warmth that it emitted.
Stop, stop! Focus, Pinkie! She cranked her head away from the oven, exiting the kitchen and trotting upstairs into her room for her saddlebags. She could hear every creak of the steps as she ascended them, she focused on how may creaks there were in total; there were eight. Her body seemed to always be on high alert nowadays, she was more aware of what was going on around her, who said what, who did what, how they did it.
Eventually, she had made it to her room. It was perfectly organized. Pinkie made sure to spend as long as possible organizing and fixing her room every day, even when there wasn't a mess, any excuse she could muster up to prolong the going downstairs because when she went downstairs she would see him. Just the thought of him brought tears to her eyes, just like it did every time. She couldn't think about him in this room, not now, not when there was still work to be done. She needed to go get the apples, she had to see Applejack and get apples. That's what she needed to do right now.
She hurried to her wardrobe and got her saddlebags, along with a coin purse filled with bits. Casting it over herself, she trotted back downstairs, checked on those cupcakes again, and started towards the door.
"Oh, Pinkie, where are you going?"
To say Pinkie jumped out of her skin would be an understatement, but then again, there were no words to describe the feeling that reaped over her body when she heard his voice. Her heart began to thump hard against her chest, and her eyes widened, her gaze locked onto the door. She was so close. She said nothing for the longest time.
"Pinkie, are you alright?" She heard him ask with fake concern, his voice getting closer to her as she felt his hoof rest on her shoulder. She could feel him staring into her.
No, please. Please! Keep it together. It's okay. It's okay. Her mind was racing, and for a moment, nopony else in the world was there, just them. Just him and her. Again. Her throat was burning, it hurt so bad, she could feel her legs begin to shake, as weakness cascaded over her.
"I'm... I'm getting apples. Apples, from Applejack. At Sweet Apple Acres." She whispered, almost begging.
"We've run out already? Well, be back soon... You don't sound well at all, seems like you could use some... bed rest." He said, and she could practically hear the grin on his face. Her head felt so light, for a moment she feared she may faint then and there.
"I will, Mr. Cake..." The door was so close, it was so close. Pinkie Pie almost leaped at the door when he removed his hoof from her, she couldn't wait to see her friend Applejack, just to be at Sweet Apple Acres, anywhere but here, with anyone but him. As she ran to the door, she heard him one last time.
"I told you, Pinkie, you can call me Carrot..."
It took everything in her not to cry as she galloped towards Sweet Apple Acres.
"Now just where do ya think yer goin', missy?" Applejack raised a brow as she stood at the door, blocking her younger sister's exit.
"Out," Applebloom replied, averting her gaze from Applejack's.
"Out where?"
"To the park!"
"With?"
There was a pause, "... Mah friends?"
"Who, Applebloom?" Her tone was stern now as she eyed her little sister hard.
"Just some friend's from school, y'know!"
"No, ah don't." She leaned in.
"Ah, let the girl go and have 'er fun, Jack. Y'know how fillies are nowadays, all about their privacy." Granny Smith chimed in, waving her hoof in their dismissively.
"But- but Granny-"
"Applejack, don't act like you ain't the same way with yer friend's when y'all are off savin' the world."
"That's different, Granny! Ah-"
"No nothin', Applejack! Let the girl go an do 'er thing."
Letting out an exasperated sigh, the orange earth pony rolled her eyes and opened the door for her sister, "Have fun." She said grumpily. As the smaller pony trotted out with a winner's grin, Applejack soon saw a figure in the distance, a bright pink figure at that, rushing over to the farm with haste.
"What in tarnation..." She mumbled under her breath, stepping out of the house herself and standing there, bewildered.
"APPLLLEEJAACCK!!" She heard the mare yell, recognizing the voice as Pinkie Pie's. Applejack made her way over the mare, stopping just in time before she was nearly glomped to the ground. Her ears were quickly invaded with sniffling, crying and hiccups- Pinkie was hysterical. Applejack pried her friend off after some struggle, staring at her with wide eyes.
"Pinkie! What's wrong?!" She yelled, fearing the worst for her friend.
"I... I..." She continued choking on her sobs, speaking incoherently.
"Yes? What is it?!" She leaned in, nearly shaking the mare in her grasp.
"I NEED APPLES!!" She finally cried out, hugging the confused earth pony tightly and crying into her mane. At this point, Applejack didn't know what to think, let alone what to do aside from letting her friend sob into her. Pinkie had been crying as though something terrible had happened, but all she needed were... apples?
"Apples?" AJ asked, cautiously stroking her friend's now flattened mane while staring down at her.
"I-I'm sorry! I just... I was at Sugar Cube Corner and I saw we needed apples because we ran out! We ran out of apples, AJ..!" She sighed, trying to regain her composure by pulling back from the hug and wiping her eyes, looking down at the grassy floor.
"Ah don't understand, why're you so worked up over some apples? Ya know you could just come on over and I'd supply you with em, no problem!" She raised her voice, still confused. She had never seen Pinkie so upset over something this minuscule. After a long silence filled only with the sniffles and hiccups of Pinkie Pie, Applejack sighed and stood up, she knew she wouldn't get anything out of her friend like this, not out here at least.
"Come on inside, let's getcha somethin' to eat and I'll send ya a bunch to take back with ya." Applejack didn't wait for a response, helping Pinkie Pie up and leading her back to the house, standing close by her side the entire time as she listened to her friend's silent ramblings about apples and upsetting him, whoever he was she hoped she would soon find out.
With a heavy sigh, Twilight set down the bag of cupcakes, levitating the treats out of it before placing each confectionary in a holder tray. 'I just need to finish these orders, do you mind?' The words repeated over and over in her head, she replayed the scene of Pinkie Pie shoving her out of the bakery and slamming the doors shut right in her face. She felt no anger towards her friend's actions though, more so a deep sense of worry and... fear. What could be so damning that it would cause Pinkie Pie to act so unlike herself?
"Twilight, you alright?" Came the cautious voice of her assistant, Spike. She could hear him step to her side, "You've... been out of it since you got home. Did something happen?" He asked her, looking up at her and giving a comforting smile.
Her eyes widened ever so slightly as she was brought back to the present, opening the fridge and tucking the cupcakes away at the very top with haste. She looked down him with her usual smile, muttering an I'm fine, before trotting upstairs, to which Spike followed behind.
She knew it would all be in vain, trying to hide something from Spike; he knew her better than nearly all of her friends combined. Though that didn't come as a surprise to her, she did hatch him, after all. The two had spent more time together than she had with even her own brother by now, they were both very good at reading each other.
"Twi, I know that's not true," He began, "You're only like this when you're in deep thought about something important!" He ran ahead of her, determined not to let her rest until he knew the truth as he threw his arms up into the air.
Truly, she appreciated the effort and decided to give in, flopping on to her bed with her legs and wings sprawled out, "It's just... I stopped by Sugar Cube Corner - to say hi - and... Pinkie was just so... off? I mean, she practically kicked me out after I asked her what was wrong!" The young alicorn exclaimed, "I don't know what's bothering her, but something is, and... It doesn't feel right leaving it at that."
Spike threw the covers over her, raising a brow, "Have you thought of getting the others together and mentioning it to them? Maybe you aren't the only one who's seen her acting strangely." The small dragon suggested, flying over to his bed and finding a comfortable sleeping position.
"I did think of that," She mumbled, gripping the sheet in her magic and turning on her side, "I'll see if I can get the girls together tomorrow..." Her voice got quieter as she slowly resigned herself to sleep, shutting her eyes and curling up under the blanket. She knew she had to find out what was wrong with her friend, and she would, but for now, all she could do was hope Pinkie would have a sound night tonight. She felt her consciousness slip away as she listened to the light splats of the rain outside her window, soon the storm would grow stronger... but it was a calming sound against her ears.
"Goodnight, Spike..."
"Night, Twilight."
She stared through the window, eyes starting to burn from her refusal to blink. Maybe, just maybe, if she stared long enough, she could think it all away. Her mind had been scrambled all day, all week, all month. Crying into Applejack's embrace felt heavenly, she was so warm and caring. That kind of hold was something she had not felt in a long time, she wondered what her sisters were doing at this hour, probably sleeping the night away without a care in the world. Sometimes it really got to her, how could every pony else go about their lives perfectly fine while she was forced to bare a smile each and every day knowing that it was all a sham? The very notion made her eyes squint in frustration, but it was short-lived as she recalled the true helplessness of her situation.
Nopony could help her now, she was too deep into it to be saved. Perhaps if she'd fought back harder the first time he would've left her alone, if she'd screamed for Mrs. Cake when he started making moves on her, if she had just told somepony after the first time- but she didn't, and now she would have to live with it. This was her fault. Her vision began to cloud as tears piled up in her eyes, everything within her begged, screamed for release. What was the shame in crying? Tears or no tears, it was all the same. There would be no salvation for a pony as disgusting as her, as weak as her.
Her ears twitched as she heard the ongoing argument between the Cakes in the room beside her. They had been going back and forth for about ten minutes now, and she could hear their anger start to defuse. They argued like this often, with Mrs. Cake always having the last word and say. Pinkie guessed this was why he was never once gentle with her, likely taking out his pent-up frustrations on her. Her thoughts went back to the first time, and she hiccuped.
She could never forget the first time regardless of how hard she'd tried. It always came back to her in fragments; the cool night, the kitchen, the dirty words - his dirty words, the burn of the oven against her fur... red velvet. Her eye twitched, she clamped her hooves over her face and curled into a fetal position in her bed, forget it. Please, I don't wanna go back there again! She forced the old memories out, tears now streaming down her cheeks and staining the bed sheets below.
Then, she noticed, there was only the storm. The arguing had ceased, and left in its wake was merely the pitter patter of the rain against the roof. The noises filled the mare's ears, as her eyes closed and she felt herself begin to slip into unconsciousness, sleep beginning to befall her...
It was then that a slight creaking of the floorboards joined the rain, and Pinkie Pie's restlessness began once more. As the creaking soon turned into audible hoofsteps, her heart began to pound.
"Not again, not tonight, not tonight please... I can't do this again," She whispered hastily to herself, shutting her eyes closed even harder as she silently prayed to Celestia that the hoofsteps were that of Mrs. Cake's. A few more seconds passed her by...
They weren't.
With the opening squeak of her bedroom door, her fears were laid out before her as the realization sunk in that she would have to endure the same trauma she dealt with nearly everything night again. Somehow, her heart raced faster, so fast that she could hear it in her ears. She lay there, unmoving as if being completely still would make it all go away.
"Pinkie?" He asked in his usual family tone, the door clicking carefully behind him, signifying that it was now locked before he made his way over to her bed, closer.
She said nothing, once again paralyzed by anxiety, yet now acutely aware of everything around her, every step he took sounded much louder, she could hear his breathing become deeper, while hers got faster and more shallow. Soon, he stood right behind her, her back and the quilt being the only barrier between the two.
"I know you're not asleep, Pinkie..." His voice began to lose its friendly demeanor as he reached for her covers, slowly pulling them back to reveal a pathetic, sniffling mess of a mare. Her mane was now somewhere in between flat and puffy, simply looking unkept at this point. He placed a hoof on her side, causing her to jump and completely blow any kind of act she had thought she was keeping up.
Wasting no time, he climbed onto the bed, the squeaks and sounds of shifting material invading her senses as she focused her gaze on the window and its many droplets of rain that were painted across it. With both of his forelegs at each side of her head, and his hind legs already beginning to part hers, she found herself as still as a stone.
"This would be a lot easier if you'd just enjoy it, you know." He muttered, positioning him in front of her entrance.
She'd fooled herself into thinking that it would get easier to deal with after the first and second time but found that every time was just as vile as the last. Each night she found her sanity slipping farther and farther until eventually, she couldn't even bring herself to respond anymore. She tried her hardest to detach her mind from her body, she tried so hard, but there was always another voice screaming at her to make it stop.
Soon, she felt the familiar burning pain in her lower regions, as he had not prepared her beforehoof at all. Again, her eye twitched, and she attempted to force her thoughts to the window beside her, force the sensation of his hot breath on her neck and chest away, force the looming feelings of dread and disgust out of her mind, but somehow, in the end, it always failed.
"Look at me." He wasn't asking. She felt his stare drilling into her skull, and for the moment he had ceased his movements inside of her. Everything went still, time stopped, the rain stopped, the pitter patter was gone, and it was just them again. A slave to his commands, she slowly turned her head to meet his gaze.
Her orbs wide with the panic and distress trademarked for a filly, her chested heaved dangerously, a new wave of despair flooding her body like never before. She stared back into the eyes of a stallion she once thought she knew and could trust, the same eyes that provided her a home when she had nowhere else to turn to. Now, all she could decipher in his eyes was a cold, unfiltered lust, a look saved only for Pinkie, a look she wished would have never befallen her.
It wasn't long before he started to regain his pace within her again, and the tears swept down Pinkie's face anew once more, her quiet sobs of pain going unnoticed - or rather ignored - by the lanky and needy stallion who now had her pinned. She felt crushed under his weight, trapped with no means of escape as she was forced to take in his musky scent of sweat and... desserts. Desserts. He always smelled of baked goods when he did this to her, and she blamed him for her lack of appetite lately.
Soon, his pace quickened. She could feel he was on the brink of his orgasm. Teeth clenched and eyes shut, her crying grew louder as he breathed hard onto her, whispering his dirty words to her and groaning into her ear until he finally pulled out of her and came onto her belly. For a while, the two lay there panting hard, neither of them uttering a word to the other. As if it were merely business, Mr. Cake unceremoniously hopped out of the bed when he had recovered and made way for the door, turning back to the ruined party pony one last time for the night.
"Goodnight, Pinkie," There was the click of the lock as the door cracked open, "I love you..."
The door closed.
Pinkie didn't dare sleep for the remainder of that night.
