Ocean Breeze

Previous Chapter

Ocean couldn't take it any longer, as she watched the others take their new forms for a few laps around the clearing. Amber had even begun testing out well she could fly in this form. If the others could do it, then so could she.

Closing her eyes, she concentrated just as Cosmos had instructed. This time, the response was almost immediate as she felt something latch onto her, and her body begin to change. She grinned as she grew in size. This was fun.

After a moment, the change ended and Ocean looked around, and her smile grew. Her dragon was now a rather nice shade of purple, her eyes changing as she smiled up at her pony head. She could get used to this.

Cosmos, however, groaned in annoyance as she landed on her snout. "Oh, now the universe has it out for me. Which is dumb, because I created it! This was not something I ever expected to see. Purple dragons are not normal members of the Chromatic family."

Ocean gave her a worried look. "What do you mean? I feel fine. Or as fine as anypony can be with something like this I guess."

Cosmos nodded. "You are fine, Ocean. But I had forgotten a certain fact about the two dragon families, and that I had worked them into this ability we all have. There are more than just the five for each that I mentioned earlier."

"So how come we didn't get one of them?" Diamond asked as she strode up to them.

Cosmos shrugged. "Luck of the draw. Chromatics also have Brown, Grey, and Purple dragons. They are not as numerous as the other five. But they are still a part of the family all the same."

"So what does my family have?" Seaspray asked.

Cosmos smiled sheepishly. "I, um. Forgot actually. It never crossed my mind that this might happen to one of us. Doing it without them would have been the easy route out. But I made a promise to someone never to take the easy way out of anything. And I will not lose this. Not to him of all nine-tailed pests!"

Everyone shared a confused look, and even the dragons took an involuntary step back. "Who are you talking about?" Ivy's asked, as her pony gulped as the night seemed to darken for a moment.

After a moment, Cosmos calmed herself, and the darkness passed. "An absolute pain in my backside from the In Between Inn. An inn between multiverses if you will, is what it is. I rather like it. Pinkie Pie makes some of the best sweets in any multiverse."

"Who?" Amber asked.

Cosmos chuckled. "Ah yes. It will be many millennia before she is born, so you will not know her. As for that nine-tailed pest? Be glad you will never meet him. How Shenlong puts up with him and his kind is beyond me. Kitsunes are nothing but trouble."

The girls shared another confused look. What the hay was she talking about? None of this made any sense to them. "So what about you, then?" Moon Petal asked. "Do you get anything special out of all of this?"

Cosmos nodded. "Only one thing in fact." She tapped the star-shaped gem in the center of her armor. "It has everything to do with this. This is the Prime Magic, the source of all magic in the multiverse. Only I can ever wield it, and only a very few can even touch it. It goes with me everywhere."

"But what does any of that have to do with your dragon?" Ocean's dragon asked, fighting back a serious hunger pain. Something Ocean felt as well. Weird. Dragons ate meat, along with gems. Ponies did not. So why was Ocean feeling an urge for meat as well? Strange.

Cosmos giggled as she flew off and landed several dozen meters in front of everyone. "Quite a bit in fact. Let me show you. I've never done this so early after my rebirth, so this should be exciting."

Everyone rolled their eyes as Cosmos closed her eyes and began to glow.

Twilight was taken aback by Ocean's story. She of course had grown up with Dungeons and Dragons, even though it was mostly her brother that was into it, not her. But she had known of the additions to the Chromatic family in a previous edition. As far as she knew, they hadn't been included in the new one.

She made a mental note to ask about it later. Did the same apply to the Metallic family as well? For the moment, she put it aside and wondered just what kind of dragon Cosmos had gotten. She couldn't be any more beautiful than was now. Could she?

And did Kitsunes even exist? They were part of Japan's mythology of course. But Comsos spoke as if they were real. Could they actually exist? Another question for later she supposed.

Author's Note

Final chapter to go. At last. Never thought I'd make it this far. Considering this whole thing started out as a very crack idea I had years ago. One that I never even planned on publishing anywhere. But here we are.
