Chapters The living room was anything but spacious at the moment. Boxes of various sizes were somewhat organized and stacked. A cabinet, desk, bed frame and other furnishings took up one side of the room.
A man walked into the room carrying two boxes, followed closely by two ponies about half his height, carrying their own boxes. He set his boxes on top of a stack, “Few,” he sighed in relief wiping sweat from his forehead with a towel, “thanks for the help gentleme-gentlecolts,” he corrected throwing the towel aside, “I do believe that’s the last of it.”
“No problem Royal Foalsitter James,” answered one of the stallions in gold armor as he set his own box down.
“That’s retired Royal Foalsitter James to you, also here. Take this I really appreciate your help,” James said offering the stallions two small bags of bits. They looked uneasy about it, which was odd because they usually looked nothing about anything, “come on. I’m not bribing you or anything and bits isn’t much an issue for me.”
They hesitantly took the small bags, “Thanks,” they said in unison and began to leave.
“No problem.” he replied as they left, “wait,” they stopped in their tracks and looked at him, “could either of you tell Princess Celestia that I got my bits worth for the modifications she had made for this house?” One of them nodded, “Thanks,” he smiled and waved as they closed the door behind them.
James took a good hard look at the white door they closed and then the window where they could be seen flying off with their fancy carriage.
He turned around to all the unpacking and assembling he’d have to do in the next few days or week. The thought to pay somepony to help him crossed his mind. He certainly could afford it. He kicked that thought onto the ground and told it not to get back up. He brought his hand to the bridge of his nose and sighed, curse his pride.
It was a little after noon and he had at least one thing he needed to do before the day was done. With that in mind, he had one thing he actually wanted to do right away before finding a room for his new bed and then setting up said bed.
After locking the door to his new house he went into town. He lived a little on the outskirts so it was somewhat of a walk. Ponyville was its name. It truly looked like an ideal little town. The street had no litter. The houses where mostly the same but nonetheless charming.
Finally, he made it to what appeared to be a market of some sort. Ponies watched him cautiously as he explored. This was nothing new after one year in a new world of candy colored ponies.
All he wanted was to find a pony that could make him comfortable clothes. He approached a random pony, “Excuse me, do you happen to know where I could find a good tailor?”
The pony smiled weakly, “W-we only have one that I know of, she does good work.”
“Oh... good, do you know where I could find her?”
The mare pointed in a direction, “you can find the Carousel Boutique down the road, take a left at the next street.”
“Thanks,” he replied and headed the way she indicated.
He came to a building that looked like a giant gingerbread house with a cupcake sign. He stopped for a moment to admire the artwork. He briefly thought that it might just be real, considering he lived in a world where emeralds, diamonds, and all the jewels got to the size of his fist like it was no big deal. He gave the building a thumbs up and continued his self imposed quest.
He assumed he had arrived when came to a large building that looked like it was designed after a circus carousel but was mostly all white for some reason. A peek through the windows revealed some display mannequins wearing dresses, which he took as confirmation.
He entered and a bell rang from the door. Noone came to him as he looked around. He heard yelling from somewhere above him. It was too muffled to make out what was said. All he saw were dresses on pony mannequins and a few on a rack. They looked pretty, but that left him with little confidence that this pony could make the things he wanted. As he looked around he heard somepony stomp down the stairs followed shortly by a half gasp of surprise half scream of terror.
He turned to see a shaking mare, “Wha-what are you?” she asked. She had a white coat, deep purple mane, and three gems as a cutie mark. She was the same size of most pony adults, about level to his waist.
“Hello, I’m James Copperback,” he introduced himself as he casually approached the frightened mare, “I was told you may be the only tailor in town. I was hoping you could make some clothes that’s more comfortable and free than the suits I’ve been stuck with for the last year.”
She recovered from her paralyzing fear and looked a little perplexed, “James? Where-” she muttered the rest to herself.
“Speaking of names what’s yours?” he asked snapping her out of her thought.
“Oh! Do forgive me. Everything is happening at once as it were, and you caught me at a rather bad time. I’m Rarity and this is the Carousel Boutique where every garment is chic, unique and magnifique.” She said with pride, “Now why do I feel like I know your name?”
“You probably know me from the fact that I’m the only human on Equus” she looked at him blankly, “okay, maybe not. How about that I’m the Royal Foalsitter. You might’ve-.”
“Oh my yes!” Rarity interrupted clapping her hooves excitedly, “now I remember. James! You were the first Royal Foalsitter to be anointed in over four hundred years! Which was rather peculiar, because we weren’t in need of one.”
“Um yeah,” he replied, putting a hand behind his head, “Anyways, I was hoping you might be able to make me some casual clothing that’s not as restrictive as the suits I’ve been wearing for the last year. Something like what I got on right now would be great.” He finished. All the while she looked like she was thinking up a storm, pacing back and forth.
“Do you by chance have proof you’re THE Royal Foalsitter?” she asked suddenly.
With a shrug he reached into his pocket and pulled out his badge. He initially felt it was ridiculous that they’d have a title of Royal Foalsitter. That was before he learned about the lust god and all the foals born after its defeat. He showed her the badge. It was uninteresting, mostly so foals, fillies, and colts wouldn’t mess with it.
They must teach ponies government sanctioned badges he assumed, because she recognized it instantly with a squee and large smile.
Rarity sighed, “I’m afraid I don’t have the time to make you anything right now,” she held up a hoof, “but if you help me out, I promise I’ll make you four sets of whatever you want free of charge and pay you for your services.” Rarity offered.
“My services?” James asked more than a little confused.
“Yes,” she answered sweetly blinking her eyes and smiling innocently. It made him more suspicious of her than anything. He gestured for her to continue, “you see I just got an invitation to compete in The Fashion Contest in Manehattan!” She explained excitedly, “but my parents went on a two week vacation,” she said sullenly.
“Okay? I still don’t see how I come into the picture.” James said.
“They left my little sister with me to foalsit and I love her to death, but I really need to start making a name for myself and I can’t do that if I’m too busy taking care of her.” Rarity explained.
“...How long will you be gone?” James asked.
“At least seven days,” she answered.
“One week for a fashion contest?”
“Yes! It’s a test of skill, ingenuity, and design! The top two ponies get to show off their dresses at Manhattans third largest fashion show!” She explained.
“Third largest?”
“Well, like I said I need to start making a name for myself, and this is the best way to do it. The only way actually,” She reasoned.
“The only way?”
“Outside of Princess Celestia visiting Ponyville and stopping by my shop herself, I’m afraid I’m going to have to climb the ladders like everypony else. Don’t get me wrong I love Ponyville, I grew up here, but Canterlot is so majestic, elegant, and sophisticated,” she said with grand gestures. James could think of a few less friendly words to add to that list, “I want to own a shop there. It’s my dream you see.”
Her horn lit up and a couch came to her as she got on both hind legs, “but now I can’t even start working towards my dream!” she said dramatically, covering her eyes with her forehooves, and falling on the couch. She revealed a little more than James was used to, especially considering he came from Canterlot, “unless, unless you help me... please!”
James looked away quickly. With a heavy sigh James rubbed his forehead with the palms of both hands going up through his short black hair. He really didn’t want to be foalsitting anymore. After dealing with the absolutely entitled brats of Canterlot for one year he was glad to be done with them. Princess Celestia was a genius to suggest he retire somewhere outside of Canterlot. Those nobles paid him enough to buy and modify his new house in Ponyville with just two days/nights of babysitting. Just so they could have bragging rights.
Looking around he could see a mare who really loved dresses, at least, and he had to admit they did look pretty good, “Okay, but only if you make that nine sets of casual wear, one for each day I’ll have to foalsit your sister and two extra because I didn’t expect to be doing this.”
“Yes!” she screamed excitedly, getting off the couch and it floating away as quickly as it came. She ran up the stairs. After moment of waiting there was some yelling and that was muffled, followed quickly by Rarity running back down the stairs with some tailoring supplies floating in her magic and wearing stuffed saddlebags. Another smaller set of hooves stomping from above. “Here’s my keys and here’s half your pay,” she said floating them to him. “The bits you can use on my sister for food will be upstairs in the guest room which is where you’re welcome to stay.”
“Okay,” James answered, “can yo-”
“ Sweetie Belle hurry up!” Rarity yelled facing up the stairs.
An adorably angry “I’m coming!” was heard back, as more angry stomping commenced.
“Is she allergic to anything?” James asked getting Rarity’s attention. He actually managed to get all the information he needed while the filly stomped on the floor back and forth somewhere above them.
Rarity magic-ed a list into his hands. At the top was “1. DO NOT LET SWEETIE COOK.” The rest of the list was normal things like brushing teeth.
Rarity yelled for her sister with an ultimatum, which got one final stomp.
A white blank flank unicorn filly with dual light pink and light purple mane and tail stomped down the stairs. Her eyes were light green. She noticed him and shook like leaf looking up at him. Her previous tantrum all but forgotten.
She looked adorable and at about the age most fillies and colts get their cutie marks. He smiled at that. It meant a lot of his work load was cut in half, the nasty stuff to.
“Sweetie Belle this is James Copperback,” Rarity introduced, “he’s a Royal Foalsitter and he’s going to watch you while I’m at Manehattan.”
“What’s a Royal Foalsitter?” Sweetie asked in confusion her fear gone. He found it odd. She gasped excitedly, “does that mean I’m royalty?”
Rarity sighed, “no Sweetie, it’s just a title for a foalsitter hired by the crown to foalsit anypony.”
“Oh,” Sweetie said in disappointment, “how come I can’t go with you?”
“We’ve been over this Sweetie and it’s no longer up for discussion, upt-” Rarity interrupted Sweetie before she could say anything, “now, I really must be going before I miss the train. Ta. Ta.” Without another word Rarity left her sister in James care. That actually shocked him, maybe he underestimated the power of official badges. Still it seemed wrong to him.
James looked down at Sweetie and decided to sit down cross legged. She was tall enough to reach a little under his knees while standing on all fours. He found most ponies were intimidated by his height and reducing that helped a lot, “So have you had lunch yet?” he asked once he was comfortable, she nodded yes, “was there anything you wanted to do?”
She nodded no looking down with a slight frown, “maybe play with some friends?”
She yet again nodded no again looking more depressed than she already did, “Well, I’m new in these parts do you think you could maybe show me around town?”
She nodded no again. “Why not?”
She just looked down dejectedly. “Think about it,” He suggested, “you’ll be giving little old me a tour,” he said bringing out his arms wide, she looked at him oddly, “taking me to all the hip and tubular places you hang out at,” he finished making a sign with his hands. Sweetie looked more confused than anything else, at least it wasn’t sad, “I’m sorry… I know you’re not having the best time right now, but I’m trying my best.”
“...It’s okay,” She said finally.
“So you do talk?”
Her face got rosie and she scowled at him, “I’m not a foal! I just didn’t feel like talking!” she yelled, it was squeaky.
“That was adorable,” he complemented, “but seriously, I’m completely new in town. I just got done moving all my stuff into my new house like forty minutes ago and I’ve never been here before today. All I wanted to do was find a tailor and get new clothes and you saw how that turned out,” Sweetie scowled but it didn’t seem to be directed towards him, “Honestly, at this point you know more about this town then I do,” He explained.
“I do?”
“Based off everything I know about you so far yes, and we can go anywhere-” he hesitated for a moment, “-in town,” nailed it, “that you want to go.”
“Anywhere?” she asked herself. A light bulb seemed to have went off in her head as it shot up, “Oh oh oh! Have you ever been to Sugarcube Corner?” she asked excitedly.
“Sugarcube Corner? Never heard of it. What is it?” he asked. It sounded like a candy shop or perhaps a corner ice cream store. That trend seemed to exist in this world as well.
“Only the best place ever!” she squealed, as she ran towards the door and jumped for the handle a couple times. Her tail swaying back and forth not revealing anything. Her mane bouncing lightly when landing. She finally managed to open the door.
James got up and followed as she ran outside.
“One Moment,” he said, then locked the door with one of the keys Rarity gave him and casually walked to the filly who was eagerly waiting at the end of the walkway. He followed her into town, ignoring the looks ponies gave him. If they had a problem they could talk to him about it.
It wasn’t long before they made it to the large gingerbread like building he came across earlier. Sweetie opened the door and entered. He knew she was out for sweets but considering what her sister just did to her. Well, he fully planned on buying the poor filly just about anything she wanted, within reason of course.
The ponies went quiet as he entered and got in line besides Sweetie. He just ignored them and waited till it was their turn.
They waited so long ponies actually got use to his presence. “H-how may I help you sir?” asked the stallion running the cash register, well mostly use to his existence.
“That was a long wait,” James noted.
“I’m sorry sir but my wife and Pinkie are making a delivery and that left everything else to me. N-now what can I get you?” The stallion asked with a shaky smile.
“I understand and that depends,” James said thoughtfully, “Sweetie what do you want?”
Sweetie blinked a couple times and looked around as if she just woke up from a line coma he supposed, “I’ll have the triple sundae surprise! and a vanilla milkshake!” she ordered with a smile that was a little too big.
Her smile gave him a bad feeling, “Before I order, how large is a triple sundae surprise?” The stallion got on his hind legs then brought his forelegs together and spread them apart a ridiculous amount, “you can’t be serious.” James asked. The stallion was. James looked down to Sweetie, no way was he carrying anything that large out of here, “Sweetie could you find us a seat?”
Sweetie let out a sad gasp of some kind or something, “Okay,” she said downtrodden before going off and sitting in a corner booth in the distance. Her voice lost a lot of its life in that one word.
“I’ll have a strawberry milkshake, and do you think you could bring two empty bowls and spoons for that triple sundae surprise? Also how much?” The stallion answered and he paid. He went to Sweetie and sat down on the opposite side of her. It was a little uncomfortable, as the booths were made with ponies in mind but that wasn’t new either.
“So…” Sweetie said, “What did you get me?” She asked though it sounded like she was accusing him of something.
“I got you what you ordered,” James answered ignoring her tone, it was cute to him if anything.
“Then why’d you send me away? It’s not the first time my sister changed my order.”
“Well, I’m not your sister.”
She remained silent after that. James looked around and waved at some of the ponies inside.
Soon enough the stallion came by and put down their milkshakes with straws, two empty bowls, and two spoons then left. Sweetie glared up at James as he grabbed his milkshake.
She looked ready to make a scene before the stallion set a freaking huge ass sundae down between them. If it wasn’t for the straw he would of spat out his drink, instead he almost choked on it.
It had vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream each coated in caramel, strawberry sauce, and chocolate sauce respectively. Its base was bananas and chocolate cake. Topping it all was whip cream and sprinkles. James could do nothing but stare at the monstrosity before him. It looked like the only reason diabetes should happen, which is to say it looked very good.
He leaned to the side to see Sweetie staring at it, “See, I told you I got you what you ordered,” he said smugly.
She rubbed an eye and smiled up at him, “Thanks.”
He grabbed a bowl and a spoon, “umm so what do you want?” He asked as she looked down.
“Huh?” she asked addressing him and blushing slightly.
“Do you want a little bit of everything or maybe just the vanilla ice cream?” He asked as he got more to the side of the table so he wouldn’t have to lean over to see her, it was that large.
“I’ll have a little of everything,” she answered. He went to work and put put a little of everything in the bowl, “Oh, could you get me some extra cake?” he did so then gave it to her, “Thanks.”
He went about getting his own bowl filled and then ate. Sweetie already had her head in the bowl eating like a adorable pig.
...
“Ugh,” Sweetie groaned after half way finishing her third bowl, “I think I’m gonna be sick.” James just finished his third bowl and felt the same. They didn’t really talk much outside of Sweetie asking for the two other bowls.
So much of the sundae was still left. He really didn’t feel like dealing with it, “Sweetie do you want to bring any of this home?”
“No, I don’t want to think about ice cream right now,” she groaned as she rubbed her stomach.
“Can you walk?” he asked a little concerned.
“Yeah,” she answered as she sluggishly got out of the booth and on her hooves. He followed suit, putting a tip on the table, before leading the way towards the door. Sweetie slacking behind. He held the door open for her and they exited.
“I guess the rest of the tour will have to wait until you’re feeling better?” James asked looking down at the filly as she struggled to walk.
“I feel like I’m going to explode,” she groaned, “I’ll show you around tomorrow or something.” she said as they slowly walked back to the Carousel Boutique.
“Sounds good to me,” James agreed as they walked.
“Can you-” Sweetie began, stopping in her tracks, “can you carry me the rest of the way? I don’t feel so good.”
James squatted down and gently picked her up making sure to avoid any sensitive areas. Her fur was as soft as it looked. “Woah, I’m so high,” she exclaimed. He made sure to walk smoothly now that he was carrying Sweetie, “Thank you,” she said after a bit.
It was a definite change from the noble fillies and colts from Canterlot, he’d never get a ‘thank you’ out of them. Well, besides some of the lesser nobles. They still had a slight reason to appear well noble. “No problem,” he responded.
Eventually they made it back to Carousel Boutique and he had to set Sweetie down so he could unlock the door, “You feeling better?” He asked as he opened the door and held it open for her.
“A little,” She answered with a small smile before walking in.
He suddenly had to take a leak, “Um, do you know where the bathroom is?”
“Which one?” she asked.
“Anyone, the closest one.”
“There’s one on the right, past that door,” she answered pointing to said door.
He hurried to the door and found a short hallway he quickly entered the only door on the right, almost slamming the it behind him. After a long moment he exited feeling a lot better, “you done?” He heard Sweetie ask from the other side of the hallway which led to a kitchen and dining area.
He found her sitting at the dining table. Coming from Canterlot it wasn’t the best kitchen set-up he had to work with, but he’d make do.
“Yeah,” he answered walking to her, “So this is the kitchen? You know, I have a list saying I’m not supposed to let you cook. Do you know why that is?”
Sweetie pouted and crossed her front legs while she sat on a chair, “because my sister is mean.”
“Oh really? In my experience anytime I’m given a list it’s best to follow that list. If only to keep their parents happy with me,” he smiled mischievously at her, “with that said, I could be convinced to forget about this rule if you tell me the real reason she doesn’t want you to cook.”
“Really?” she perked up.
“Yes really.” he answered.
“B-because I almost burned down our house.” she said ashamedly looking down.
“Wow, that’s pretty bad.”
“I know!” she cried bringing her hooves to her eyes and sniffing.
“Hey, hey calm down,” he soothed quickly getting to her side kneeling and rubbing her withers. Pony fur could be so soft. She seemed to relax a little and breath easier after a moment, “how about you let me teach you how to cook? We got one week. I’m sure all you need is a little guidance, and you’ll be okay.”
“I-I don’t want you to get in trouble,” she said.
“I-” he did not expect her to worry about him getting in trouble, “thank you for your concern, but I promise I won’t let anything like that happen. If for some reason I can’t teach you anything then we’ll stop, but I believe, no, I know you’re smart, and I know you can do it,” He patted her on the withers and stood up.
She rubbed tears from her face with a forehoof and smiled, “Thank you.”
It had been one day since James first moved to Ponyville and he had yet to even assemble his bed frame. He didn’t expect to do so in another six days or so.
Sweetie was a lot easier to deal with then the noble brats up in Canterlot. Earlier today she gave him a tour of the town. It included the park, the school, her house, the movie theater, and some other places. He took mental note of everything he could during the tour.
He started teaching her how to cook when they got back. She had a lot of weird misconceptions about cooking. It took him about an hour of explaining things like proper equipment and procedures, before he was going to let Sweetie near a toaster again. It was smoking.
He decided a veggie casserole would be easy enough. Sweetie helped him boil the noodles, cut some vegetables, mix it all with sauce, and top it with cheese and crumbled crackers. He made sure she didn't cut or burn herself. There were somethings he did like sauté the hard veggies, and get the measurements for things. He did show her every little thing that needed to be done, for future reference.
He noticed something about her. She lacked the ability to connect the dots at times. He wouldn’t know how else to describe it. It was like sometimes she was ahead of the game and knew everything, or mostly everything, like when she was giving the tour and could for some reason tell him the history of several buildings. Other times it was like she didn’t understand that something was even a thing, and there was several of those.
He pondered this as he took the veggie casserole out of the oven. He wasn’t sure where she was at the moment, but it needed to cool down a little anyways.
After some time he took a scoop of the casserole and put it on a plate. Then put one slice of buttered bread on the same plate and repeated the process on another plate. He set them on the dining table, “Sweetie!” he yelled loud enough for the whole building, he hoped, “The casserole is done come and get it while it’s still hot!”
He sat down and waited. The flushing of the toilet in the hallway could be heard, soon followed by the filly quickly running out towards the table. She took her seat looking at it hungerly.
James picked up his fork to begin eating and glanced over at Sweetie. His appetite disappeared at the sight of a brown substance all over her forehoof as she picked up the bread, staining it. She slowly brought it to her mouth eyes closed, “STOP!” he yelled before she closed her mouth on the bread. “Sweetie, what is that on your hoof?”
Confused she looked at her hoof. Her face went green and she haphazardly threw the bread.
In slow motion they watched as it flew high in the air before descending. They watched as it landed directly on his food. She looked at the bread then James then darted out of the chair, “sorry, sorry, sorry,” She yelled as she ran back into the bathroom slamming it shut.
His mind raced back to not even a week ago and he blocked the specifics of those memories out. The only time he saw fillies or colts with that big a mess on their hoof or hooves is when they were much younger then Sweetie, and just learning to use the restroom themselves. Come to think of it, he did often find himself retraining young unicorns. The parents tended to forget what it was like to not be able to magically wipe their own ass.
They were always frugal with toilet paper because they could afford to be, and the result was a filly or colt that couldn’t use magic ending up with a messy hoof to clean in the sink. Most adapted to their lack of magic by using more toilet paper to avoid the mess after a couple times. The ones that didn't usually left him a nasty sink to clean and the will to make sure they were properly potty trained.
His eyes shot open in realization. He wouldn’t be surprised if Sweetie was improperly taught how to clean her tushy. He intended to find out at least. Sweetie might’ve been doing it wrong for a long time and not even realize it.
He wasn’t sure if that was the case, but it was certainly possible with her, considering some of her weird gaps in knowledge.
Her sister was a unicorn. How could her parents make the same mistake twice? Rarity said they were on vacation. He wondered why they wouldn’t take Sweetie with them, it was summer after all. Perhaps there’s something to it?
He looked down at his ruined food and sighed. Took their plates and dumped all the food in the trash. He then put the plates in the sink.
He walked over to the bathroom and knocked on the door, “Sweetie are you okay?” No response, he knocked again, “I know you’re in there. It’s okay. I’m not mad at you. I just need you to answer some questions please.”
The door propped open and he entered to find Sweetie in a corner between the sink and toilet looking depressed, avoiding any kind of eye contact. James sat down cross legged outside those borders, “Sweetie I just-”
“I’m sorry!” she yelled catapulting herself towards him and hugging him best she could, “I didn’t-” she cried heavily into his shirt.
He put one arm around her back and patted her withers with his other hand, “Sweetie why are you so upset?”
After a little bit she rubbed her nose and sniffed, “becuase you’ve been so nice to me and and I-” she cried out, “I ruined yo-your food with with poooooo~p,” she wailed.
“It’s okay Sweetie,” he comforted patting her some more, “It’s just food, we got more. You helped me make it, remember?”
She cleared her eyes, “mhmm,” she acknowledged calming down a little.
Now that she calmed down he decided to find out if what he suspected was true, “this may seem like a odd question, but does your hoof always get like that after you go number two?”
“...it does,” she admitted ashamedly almost completely confirming his theory, “I usually wash my hooves with lots of soap and water after, but I was just so hungry and excited to eat food that I helped make for once.”
"Then why'd you go for the bread first?"
She blushed slightly, "I don't know."
“Well, I’m glad you cleaned your hoof before you threw yourself at me,” She smiled up at him as he picked her up and set her down in front of himself, “anyways next time you have to go number two let me know before you go please.”
“Um, Okay!”
“Good, now let's go eat."

The last eight hours of James life had been absolutely crazy. He woke up to what looked like a normal day. That changed after breakfast. He almost died at least five times, but it was all over.
The crab ponies retreated to wherever they came from vowing to return with more to retake the surface. Those things had shells as hard as steel and were almost as strong as earth ponies.
He’s glad the one that caught his arm decided to throw him into some bushes instead of cutting it off. He had seen them easily cut through metal spears with their claws. Somehow no pony got anything worse than a few bruises.
He was not up for cooking after that. He and Sweetie ate out and went straight back to Carousel Boutique. He laid on the guest bed just thinking about things, trying to relax his mind about his several recent near death experiences.
There was a knock at the door. He got up and opened it to find Sweetie on the other side, “I have to go number two!” she said urgently.
“Okay and?” he said confused.
“You told me to tell you before I go,” she explained with the same urgency.
“Oh yeah! I did do that, sorry those crab ponies really got to me,” he explained, “come on let’s go,” he said leading the way down the hall to the upstairs bathroom. It was much larger than the downstairs bathroom. It had a bathtub/shower combo as its centerpiece. A makeup dresser with mirror to the right. Mirror/sink/drawer combo and then toilet to the left. Sweetie ran over to the toilet and got ready to go before she noticed James was still there. Her face lit up.
“Let me know when you’re done, and ready to wipe,” he said looking in her general direction.
After a moment, “I can’t go when you’re looking at me!” James knew exactly the feeling and looked away, knowing it wouldn’t help much.
“Is that better?”
“No. This is embarrassing. I’m not a foal,” she answered.
“Yet, I’ve had fillies and colts years younger then you have no problem with me being there when they went potty,” he reasoned. It was a bad experience, especially when those little monsters were taught that maids and butlers did all the work, and to simply expect it from them without the slightest hint of appreciation. If anything they were taught to have outright disdain towards anypony not a noble.
“But I’m not like them. I’m older! I’M NOT A FOAL!” she yelled making him wince at the noise. Soon after she sniffed, “and y-yet, I-I still can’t go,” she cried.
Despite his better judgement he quickly went to Sweeties side and put a hand on her withers, and looked straight ahead as she bawled, “Sweetie what are you talking about? I know you can do it, I’ll step out so you can finish,” he said getting up.
“It-it’s NOT THAT!” she screeched stopping him in his tracks, “even-” she gasped, “-even you think I’m still a foal,” she whined.
“I don’t think you’re a foal Sweetie,” he stated getting back to her side. He rubbed her withers comfortingly as she sat on the toilet.
“Then why are you treating me like one?” She asked.
“I’m not trying to. I’m going to tell you why I’m here, but right now I think you have something on your mind that’s really bothering you. I just want to help. Can you tell me what’s wrong, please?”
“Okay,” she said with a sniff, “it’s just… everypony treats me like I’m a foal. My parents didn’t want me to go with them on their vacation because they feared I’d jump off a cliff, or get lost, or something,” she sniffed again, “and Rarity b-blamed me for not being able to go to her stupid fashion contest because I would make her look b-bad somehow or that I would be foal napped by somepony! Yet, she left me with you!”
“Well, I hope I haven't been that bad,” he said with fake hurt.
“What NO!” she held out her hooves and crossed them back and forth, “You’ve been wonderful,” she said looking towards him, “It’s just, I don’t think she ever met you before and yet she trusted you to, to watch over me.”
“That’s true, and I know what you mean. My only possible explanation is the official badge I showed her,” he said showing Sweetie the badge, then putting it away. “But getting back on track. So what? Your parents and sister fear something bad will happen to you if they take you somewhere?” Sweetie nodded, “I hope you know it’s only because they love you.”
“I know, but this ALWAYS happens. My parents never take me with them,” she sniffed, “They even m-missed m-my fifth birthday, they’re never around, and when they are it’s not for long. Rarity’s always to busy to do anything, and and and… I just wish they were here!” she wailed then cried into her hooves loudly.
James got her some toilet paper to blow her nose on, which she did just that. He patted her soothingly.
After a bit she calmed down.
He gave her one more thing of toilet paper to blow her nose on, which she did again. “So are you feeling better?” He asked.
*Plop* *Plop* *Ploop* *sheeeeee~*
Sweetie was frozen in spot looking at him. He tried to fight his urge to smile as a strong sensation to, "ha aahahah~" It was infectious because Sweetie was laughing soon after he started.
After almost dying several times today, he really must be losing it. He started considering something entirely wrong. He lacked the will to care and decided to go through with it. “Then who did?” he asked.
“Rarity did.”
“Oh, that explains a lot, are you done going?” She nodded yes, “are you sure?” She nodded yes again, “okay good, can you show me what you usually do?” he asked.
She blushed, “do I have to?” She asked.
“I’ll stop you the moment I see the problem, it should be early on. Just trust me please.”
“Okay,” she agreed with rosy cheeks. She grabbed one square of toilet paper and moved to begin the wiping process. He quickly grabbed onto her beautiful hoof and stopped her from ruining it.
“I knew it,” He said with pride, “Sweetie why’d you only grab one square of toilet paper?”
“That’s what Rarity taught me to do,” Sweetie answered.
“Let me guess she used her magic when she did right?” Sweetie nodded yes, “and you don’t notice the problem there?”
She just looked at him confused for a long moment, “I’m just doing what she taught me.”
“Sweetie I think it’s time you learned to connect the dots, or in other words think outside the box,” James said, “So your sister used magic and one sheet of toilet paper correct?” Sweetie confirmed, “So tell me do you have magic yet?”
“No. I’ve tried but I can barely get sparks,” Sweetie said.
“So you’re telling me you don’t have magic yet?” she nodded, “Yet, you still only use one sheet of toilet paper. Tell me Sweetie if Rarity for some reason couldn’t use her magic would she only use one sheet of toilet paper?”
After a moment a look of realization dawned on the cute filly as she gasped, “No, she’d probable use the whole roll! She hates getting dirty.”
“So are you going to only use one sheet of toilet paper without your magic from now on?”
“No! I never thought about it like that before. Thanks James,” she smiled.
“Glad to hear it,” he took three sheets of toilet paper, “now let me show you the proper way when you don’t have magic. You take three sheets,” he said showing her them, “fold them in half,” he did so as she watched, “make sure it’s covering your hoof near the middle, can you lift up for me?” She blushed but did so. He wiped her bottom and showed her the nasty results, “now you can fold for one or even two more wipes,” he said folding it, “lift up again, please.” She did so and he wiped again, then let it fall into the toilet. He showed her his hand, “notice how my hand is clean for the most part, now you do it.”
He watched as Sweetie folded the toilet paper in half but not so much after, “Thanks,” she said as her hoof returned looking clean for it’s second run. She repeated until the toilet paper came back clean. She got off the toilet and flushed when she was done.
He asked her to get on the toilet for a moment. She asked why but did so anyways.
He walked to the bottom of the bathroom sink drawers and explored them finding the two things he’d been looking for. A wet wipe and small metal stick about as thick as his pinkie. It has a rounded head and exposed internal grooves that close in trapping the wet wipe in such a way it completely surrounds the metal stick and isn’t loose, “Sweetie since you’re older, I figured I’d teach you about wet wipes.”
He said showing her the stick and wet wipe in separate hands. She looked at the stick, “What’s that for?”
“Let me show you,” he said as showed her how to place the wipe properly. He was actually learning how to do it himself, but it was far less complicated then some things he dealt with back on earth. “Okay, now left up,” she did so her blush back.
He made sure he got the right hole before slowly sliding it up her butthole, “ehhh,” she complained freezing in place, “what are you doing?” she asked.
“Does it hurt?”
“...No, it feels weird,” she answered with a confused expression.
“Okay good, let me know if otherwise,” as he continued moving it in. He enjoyed the cute little faces she was making, “I’m showing you this because it’s a good way to keep your cute little butt clean,” he said making her blush more some how.
He slowly took it out and showed her the results. It wasn’t too dirty but enough to get his point across. He pressed a button on the side near the bottom of the stick above trash can and it fell into the trash can, “always throw wet wipes in the trash,” he stated before getting another one and handing her a new wipe and the stick, “now you do it.”
She fiddled with them for a moment, “umm, how?” He showed her again how to get the wipe around the stick, while she did it.
Once done, “okay, now you know what you need to do.”
Her blush returned, “do I have to do that?”
“Yes.”
“Okay,” she said before struggling to get it in place. She leaned to the side to try and get the wipe covered stick up her own ass. After a while of failure her blush disappeared and she seemed more determined.
She spread her hind legs and he got a good view of everything before her forehoofs along with the wipe covered stick traveled between them obstructing his grand view. It seemed to work as her blush returned as her hooves curled up.
One of her hooves undoubtedly was grinding against her cute little pussy as she pushed it up her butthole, “Ah,” she gasped.
“You okay?”
She looked straight to him like she forgot he was there, “Y-yeah. Emm,” she mumbled as her hooves worked.
After a moment she pulled it out and it was completely clean. He took it from her, “okay next time you go number two be sure to use the wet wipe, till your butt is that clean, and let me know after,” he said giving it back to her, “there’s a button on the side near the bottom you can press to release the wet wipe make sure it’s over the trash.”
She did so and he showed her where the stick and wet wipes came from, she put it away. “I don’t like using those.”
“I know Sweetie but please do, also wash your hooves,” James said as he just got done washing his hands.
He got one of his hands wet and warm again just as Sweetie got her hooves to the sink. His heart raced at what he was going to do next.
Sweetie started washing her hooves and he got on his knees looking at her cute little posterior and put his hand on her dock. Swiftly he trapped her tail between his index finger and thumb. After that he began sliding his wet/warm middle finger into her little ponut.
Sweetie gave a cute little eep and stiffened, “Wha-what are you doing?” Her tail trying and failing to get his digit out. If anything it unintentionally helped him move it in.

“Did we not just clean it Sweetie?”
“I-I guess, but why are y-you-” she said.
“I’ll be honest with you Sweetie,” he said as he took out his finger and released her tail. Sweetie faced him quickly backing against the sink drawers. She looked more flushed than anything, “I like you a lot, and I was wondering if maybe you wanted to be my marefriend?”
Sweetie looked confused for a moment, “...y-you want to be my coltfriend? But don’t we have to go on a date?”
“We’ve known each other for nearly three days now, we could call what we’re doing right now a date if you wanted. It doesn’t have to be at a restaurant or movie theater you know? Both ponies just have to acknowledge it as a date. It’d be a date if you’d take me, and yes I would very much like to be your coltfriend. ”
Sweetie looked down, and tears started falling, “y-you-” she said in tears.
He made no movement towards her, as the ramifications of his actions hit him like a brick, “I’m sorry Sweetie. I don’t know what came over me, almost dying like six times today has really led to me making some erratic horrible decisions.”
“Y-you” she sniffed, “you’d really want me as your marefriend?” she asked in a almost hopeful manner.
“...Yes," He said confused, "I meant what I said.”
She leaped to him and hugged him as hard as she could, “I really like you to.”
“So you wouldn’t mind me as your coltfriend?”
“Are you sure you’re not already dating somepony?” She asked for some reason.
“Umm yeah, I’m sure. What makes you ask that?”
“Because you’re so nice and treat me like like an equal. I just don’t see how anypony wouldn’t want to date you.” she explained
“I could think of one big reason, but Thanks. I hope you realise we can’t tell anypony we’re dating now. Right?”
“Why not?” she asked.
He went on to explain how his role as a foalsitter is similar to why doctors don’t date patients, teachers don’t date students, and so on. Sweetie asked questions as they talked. He then explained that ponies might find the age difference wrong. He admitted he wasn’t sure about it. He’s lived here for one year but never really heard anything on the subject.
“So please don’t let anypony know we’re dating. I could get sent to jail for it. Actually, hold on. If I ever do anything that you don’t like and keep doing it after you seriously told me not to, you should tell as many ponies as possible.”
“But I-” she began, then thought about it, “Okay.”
“So do you consider this a date right now or not?”
“Mmhhmmm,” she answered as she hugged him.
“How about we end it with a kiss. If that’s okay with you?”
She blushed looking up at him and nodded in confirmation.
He gently picked her up and brought her close.
She closed her eyes and puckered her lips.
He leaned in and gave her a peck.
Her eyes flew open in surprise, “Wow,” she exclaimed blushing hotly.
“Thanks Sweetie.” He said before sitting her down, “would you want to go on a date tomorrow night?”
“YES!”
James was nervous about tonight. He could imagine so many ways it could go wrong. Somepony could probable figure out what was going on and send him to jail, easy. That’s why he had a plan he intended to tell Sweetie about.
He found Sweetie in her room reading a book on her bed laying down. He knocked on the open door then walked in. Her room was rather spacious but fairly bare. Considering it was her sisters workplace/house he supposed it made sense. It had a toy chest at the foot of her bed and a cabinet with books, a desk, and a closet, not much else, “Hey Sweetie, we need to talk before the date later tonight.”
She put down her book and looked up to him, “okay.”
“You remember when we talked about other ponies and how they might not like the idea of us dating each other?” She nodded, “Well, let me reiterate that I might get sent to jail for dating you.”
“I know. I don’t want you to go to jail.“
“Sweetie as happy as I am to hear you say that. It doesn’t change the fact that somepony could find out we’re dating when we’re going out on a date.” Sweetie looked at him blankly. He couldn’t tell if she already thought as much yet or had yet to once again connect the dots, “which means I could get sent to jail if they find out.”
“WHAT!?” She yelled hopping to her hooves, “but then, what about our date?”
“I have a plan. Do you want to hear it?” She nodded, “I think we should play a game.”
“What game?” she sat down.
“Umm,” he contemplated while scratching behind his head, “I don’t have a name for it yet, but it has a objective. We only win if we don’t get caught,” she looked at him blankly, “the objective is make other ponies believe that we’re on a date but it’s a one time date.”
“But if ponies wouldn’t like us dating then why would they be okay with us being on one date?”
“Perception Sweetie,” he said with a grin, “we’re going to sell them a story.”
She gasped and clapped her hooves together, “We’re going to need paper and pencils.”
“Huh?”
“For the story.”
“Oh, No Sweetie. I mean we’re going to act out the story. I mean, I guess you can write it down if it’ll help you remember it, but you can’t take it with you. So here’s what I was thinking-”
“Wait! Let me get a paper and pencil.”

It was almost time for their date and James could hardly believe he was still going through with this. Hell, even two days ago he’d never imagine dating a filly. Those crab ponies really did a number on his psyche. He still felt like he had adrenaline running through him.
James felt awful about what he did to Sweetie. She just looked so cute. He wanted to take her, so he did, at least very briefly with his middle finger. He regretted it. He let his worst desires get the better of him.
Sweetie had treated it like her sister spit in her cup and told her to drink it. She treated it like the weird kid at school who’d eat a bug for a dollar. She clearly didn’t understand what he was really doing and why. That fact really nagged at him.
At any rate, Sweetie had been upstairs for the last thirty minutes ‘getting ready.’ His wonder of what that meant didn’t last much longer as she walked down the stairs.
“How do I look?” She asked. She had a gorgeous dark purple dress on. She also put on stuff that left him conflicted. On one hand it screamed insecure whore which apparently was a slight turn on for him. On the other hand he mostly found it funny, because she was a filly.
He resisted his urge to chuckle, “Sweetie why’d you put makeup on?”
“Because I wanted to look my best,” she answered, “it looks good right?” She said producing a small mirror and checking herself.
“Sweetie you know I like being honest with you, so let me just say you’re very beautiful without any makeup on. With that said, you do look hot with makeup.”
She blushed, “I do?”
He smiled, “Of course you do but,” he held out his hand to show that he meant what he said next, “for future reference you might want to use less makeup, and lipstick because you look hot for maybe not the best of reasons. Now you remember the game right?”
“Mhmm,” she nodded.
“Good, let's get this date started.”
They left the Carousel Boutique and headed towards their destination. The sun was just about to begin setting. They promptly ignored ponies that stared at them, well he tried to at least.
Eventually they made it to a cafe with outdoor tables. He saw it when she gave him the tour. It looked like a neat little place. It didn’t look to busy right now, with only one outdoor table occupied.
They took a outdoor table for two and James waved over a waitress. He was so nervous. This was such a bad idea. He hoped Sweetie remembered their story, “Hello I’m Daisy Bud and I’ll be your waiter. How may I help you tonight?” She looked between them both setting down some menus, her eyes lingered on the sight that was Sweetie. He couldn’t blame the mare. Sweetie looked something alright.
“You can start by getting us some water while we look at the menu please,” James said.
“Ofcourse,” she replied getting one last look at Sweetie before going elsewhere.
“...So what do you think you’ll be having?” James asked Sweetie as they both looked over their respective menus.
“I’m thinking the rose salad,” Sweetie answered looking at her own menu.
“Good choice. You know I’ve made those but can’t really eat them, sure I’ve tasted them but rose just doesn’t taste good to me, probable because I’d get sick if I tried to eat too much of it,” James said, “but I’m told those are really good. As for me I think I’ll have a pecan salad.”
“Why would you get sick if you ate roses?” She asked.
“Well I’m human, although I can eat a lot of different things, flowers usually isn’t one of them.”
“Oh,” she said thoughtfully.
Daisy returned with their glasses of water and asked what they wanted, “I’ll have the rose salad!” Sweetie answered then battered her eyes at him as he went to grab his drink, “and my date will have the pecan salad.”
“Your date huh?” Daisy asked looking to James in some way.
“Yep, he’s taking me out on a romantic date!” Sweetie answered with a smile.
He didn’t expect Sweetie to be so forward. He froze in spot with his drink halfway to him. He went ahead and drank some and put it down,, “I-I c-can explain-” She just looked at him. His throat was so dry. He got another drink of water, “i-it was a card game if I won she’d clean up her room, if I lost she’d have me do ‘something’,” he said using his fingers to make air quotes, “I thought she’d have me clean up her room, instead here we are.”
She looked at him for a moment, “So, that was a pecan salad and a rose salad?” He nodded, “one moment,” the way she said that was foreboding.
A moment later a stallion and a mare walked up to their table from inside the building, “sir,” the stallion of them said pointing to James, “I’m going to have to ask you to come with me.”
“Um,” he coughed, “what for?” James asked.
“Yeah, we’re trying to have a date!” Sweetie complained.
James felt like he was caught already. He needed to calm down and pray to god that Sweetie remembered the story. He held up his hand, “it’s okay Sweetie,” he said getting up, “lead the way,” he said gesturing for the stallion to go.
The stallion headed into the cafe and into the back. James followed and got one last look at his date. The mare was talking to Sweetie. He couldn’t help but feel this entire restaurant was a den of undercover cops or something. He really hoped Sweetie remembered the story.
He found himself in a somewhat cramped office sitting down and facing the stallion, “so what’s this about?”
“Imagine my surprise when one of my waiters comes to me talking about some stallion dating some filly,” the stallion said.
“I imagine it’s very surprising, considering your near immediate reaction.” James said figuring it’d be best to let him lead the conversation.
“Yes,” the stallion sighed, “well, I’d like to know why your dating a filly?”
“Um, well like I told umm, Daisy was her name?” the stallion smiled and nodded, “yeah like I told her I lost a card game in an effort to get her to clean her room. I thought she’d have me clean her room, instead she wanted to go on a date with me I guess, and before you ask yes she did clean her room.”
“Which card game?”
“Go fish.”
“So just a one time date then?”
“Of course, though I don’t think she knows that yet.”
“Good lad. You can do better. Now get out of my office.”
“Umm, what?” James asked, “okay then…” he said getting up, “Later.”
He left and went back to Sweetie who was yelling something at the mare. He missed what Sweetie yelled but the mare gave him a smile as she left. He sat down in his seat, “what was that about?”
Sweetie just huffed and crossed her legs, “nothing.”
He really hoped it was nothing. He had no doubt they were back there confirming if both them told the same story. The suspense was killing him. He really wanted to ask Sweetie what she told the mare, but knew better. He’d just have to wait until they either sick the guard on him or believe their story.
After what seemed like forever to him Daisy finally showed up with a genuine smile, “Sorry for the inconvenience, here’s some rolls as a apology. Did either of you want to change your order?”
“No, I think we’re good,” James replied. He felt so much relief. It either means they fell for it and Sweetie stuck with the plan, or they’re just stalling till the guard gets here. Either way, he felt a strong need to sell the idea that this was a one time date to any observers.
“Hey, this is a date! You should’ve asked me if I wanted to change my order,” Sweetie complained. It was hard to take her seriously looking like that.
“I hope you understand this never truly could be a real date Sweetie, but you’re right. I did lose the game,” he got a sip of water, “did you want to change your order?” she nodded no. “Well, you look beautiful, and I’m lucky to be going out on a date with a filly like you,” he droned in the most monotone voice he could muster.
Sweetie blushed, “really?” she questioned with a high pitch. Daisy looked at James with pity and was clearly resisting the urge to laugh, “I-I mean that’s more like it.”
James sighed again, “yeah yeah, let's get this wonderful evening over with,” he leaned over to Daisy and whispered, “could you please get our food fast, this is embarrassing.”
“What was that?” Sweetie asked suspiciously.
“Oh, um. Just making sure you get the best rose salad you’ve ever had,” James said defensively as Daisy covered up a chuckle as a cough.
“Aww, that’s so sweet,” Sweetie replied as the mare left.
“So Sweetie you like reading?” James asked, he felt fairly confident they believed their story. He saw no reason for them to not send in the local authorities right away. He just had to keep up the act. He took a good drink of his water.
“Yeah, there’s lots of interesting things to read about.”
He let out a half insane chuckle, “In this freaking world I have no doubt about that. How were we able to eat out after a small army of crab ponies invaded this town? It had not even been ten minutes since they left and everypony in town was acting like nothing had happened!” He ranted.
“It’s Ponyville.” various ponies replied back. The other tables where less empty now. He wondered how he missed them filling up.
He wasn’t sure if he wanted to know why everypony around him seemed to answer him unanimously. It either meant he’d be almost dying on a far to often bases, or ponies here just really knew how to handle things. Probable both, “right, sorry everyone,” he apologized looking around.
“I thought you were very brave to fight those crab ponies,” Sweetie said drawing his attention.
He rubbed his face and sighed, “Thank you Sweetie, but could we please talk about something else, I really really don’t want to think about that, it...” he took a quick sip of his water, “So what kinds of things do you like to read?”
“Umm, just about anything.” Sweetie answered, “I just like reading.”
“Oh, well that’s nice. I was never much of a reader myself.”
“So um,” she said shyly, “how did you become a Royal Foalsitter?”
“I,” his voice cracked, he coughed it out then he took a sip of water. He was constantly on alarm mode, how could he not be, “ahem. Well you see Celest- I mean Princess Celestia tried to get me a monthly stipend.”
“What’s that?”
“Err, you can think of it like an allowance except I didn’t have to do any chores for it,” he said with a shrug.
"Why would she do that for you?"
“You'd have to ask her. Anyways, the nobles wouldn’t have any of it and continuously rejected her attempts.”
“They did? But isn’t she the princess can’t she do what she wants?”
“Yes she is a princess and you’d think so but no. She needs approval from other ponies to get somethings done. I asked her to stop trying and that I’d just find a job. The next day she set up a meeting and proposed to anoint me as a Royal Foalsitter. I’ll admit you ponies are so cute the idea didn’t seem bad at all at the time. So I took it.”
“That’s it?”
“Well, not entirely. I was properly trained in the methods of a Royal Foalsitter. That was a harsh week let me tell you. You don’t want to know what pegasi foals are capable of without diapers.”
“What do you-” Sweetie began before staring off into the distance, “Ewww,” she yelled.
“Hey! Some ponies are trying to eat here!”
He looked around and in fact other ponies were eating their food, many of which he was pretty sure showed up a little after they ordered then again he supposes he did have those free rolls for a reason, “Um, right. Sorry everypony, again.” He found their waiter and raised his hand to draw her attention, “Is our food almost done?” he asked once she made it to them, “also could you please refill my water?”
The mare leaned up to him and whispered “one moment, please.” He thought it was odd but ignored it.
A moment later she returned with a pitcher of ice water and refilled his glass. “It just got done. I’ll go get it now,” she whispered to him again ending with a giggle.
“Okay, the food should be here any moment Sweetie,” he said rubbing his hands together trying to ignore the weird waiter as Sweetie looked at him oddly.
The mare returned a moment later and set down their salads, “Sorry for the wait, bon appetit.”
“Um, sure… they do look good. I guess,” he took a drink of water, “thanks.” He said before she left.
He took a bite, “-so where were we? Oh yeah, to make a long story short the nobles basically got into bidding wars over my services because I was The Royal Foalsitter. It was very profitable. In fact, I moved to ponyville so I could retire early.” He praised Celestia for her quick response to the nobles refusals to give him a monthly stipend. Celestia never admitted it but she must’ve known the nobles were going to basically throw money his way. They seemed sadly predictable.
“Retired? I thought that was for really old ponies?” Sweetie asked then continued eating her food.
“Not necessarily, it’s for whoever has enough bits to sustain their lifestyle up until the day they-” He stopped himself, “umm, no longer need any bits.”
“-Oh. Okay, but then why’re you wa-watching over me if you’re retired?”
“Your sister convinced me to help her out and I wasn’t really in a rush to get back home and start unpacking my things.” He answered.

“Good,” he answered.

“Hey Sweetie, ready to learn how to cook eggs and pancakes, and use a toaster?” He asked as she walked into the dining area. He got up and walked over to the small work counter. Sweetie looked like her usual self.

“Well, I don’t know how to describe it but Sweetie seems to be-” he stopped as the answer came to him, it seemed so obvious now, “-actually I think I do. She’s book smart. She knows a lot of different things from all the books she’s read, but she lacks knowledge from conversation and experience I guess to truly understand what some words mean or the different ways they can be used. Well, it makes sense to me at least.”
“Mmm yes,” Rarity said in thought, “I do believe I know what you mean, was there anything else you wanted to talk about?”
“Not that I can think of.”
“Well,” she flourished her tail side to side, “I’m afraid it is getting rather late, and I’m beat from traveling, I’ll start working on your cloths tomorrow,” she smiled up to him, “perhaps we could continue this conversation in a couple days at a lovely little cafe I know,” she grinned at him, “just for two? My treat.”
“Sounds fun,” he agreed thinking nothing of it and headed towards the door. He had nothing important to do, besides figuring out how his relationship with Sweetie is going to work. He considered going up the stairs to say goodbye to Sweetie one last time, but he already promised to see her again tomorrow.
“Oh good! I’ll make sure you won’t regret it!” Rarity said gleefully.
It drawed him out of his thoughts, “umm okay,” was all he could say to her odd comment, “be sure to remind Sweetie I’ll see her tomorrow and that’s a promise! I’m not sure when maybe sometime after lunch. I have a lot of unpacking to do,” he explained as he opened the door to leave.
“Very well,” Rarity agreed walking towards the door as he walked out. She held the door open, “Ta-ta for now,” she waved as he walked down the walkway, he waved back then continued walking.
The sun was low but still high enough to leave an orange tint on everything that wasn’t covered in long shadows by the time he got home. He immediately noticed his mailbox was bulging with letters. He struggled to unstuck them.
Once he did he browsed through them. He recognized a name of some ponies he rather didn’t like. They were a very appropriate named couple. He opened the letter out of curiosity.

He lost interest as it sadly was exactly what he expected from them. He browsed through more of it. Some of it was the expected junk mail. Until he came across a smashed scroll with the royal seal. He carefully unrolled it.
Dear James
I’m glad to hear you liked the modifications I had made to your house. I hope you’re settling in just fine. I haven’t been to Ponyville in many decades and now I find myself wondering how much it has changed. I’m considering hosting the Summer Sun Celebration there this year. It would be a show of good faith to celebrate the S.S.C. in a smaller town for a change.
Oh, who am I fooling? I miss you James. It has been too long since I could talk to anypony that didn’t treat me like a ‘demi god’ as you would put it. Life is interesting with you around.
I recently got several petitions about your sudden retirement. I informed them there was nothing I could do about it, and legally there isn’t. Well, unless we had a true need for a Royal Foalsitter, which thankfully we don’t.
I’m going to see what I can do to find some time to come and visit you. I’ll keep you updated on that. You’re always welcome to come by and visit whenever you want.

“Huh.” He wondered what Celestia would think about him now. He rubbed his eyes with his free hand and yawned. He walked to his door and unlocked it. He turned on the lights and immediately dropped the stack of papers he was carrying at the sight.
Boxes that were once neatly stacked and on one side of the living room, were now strew about and opened. Their contents littered the floor. He was shocked.
Alarmed he gave a quick look at everything he could in the mess. There was simply too much for him to notice if anything was missing or not. His furnishing looked pretty much untouched at least.
In his search he noticed some fast food wrappings littered the floor leaving the mess into a unlit hallway. He frowned and followed them to a door. The light from the living room barely reaching. He had yet to even explore this hallway, and thus had no idea what kind of room was behind the door. He considered going back to the living room and getting some random thing as a weapon in case somepony was inside. He decided against it.
He brought his head to the door and listened for a while. He thought he heard something, but it was so quiet. It could’ve been from a open window. Maybe there was an ambush.
He was thinking to much about this. He slowly turned the door knob then slowly opened the door. It didn’t make a sound, which shows the quality of the craft ponies who modified his house. He extended his hand making sure not to walk into the room, incase there was an ambush.
It was a spacious room, he could barely make out the litter on the floor. In the corner of the dark room was a mass of something. A little bit of it was rising and falling ever so slightly.
