Razors' Edge
Chapter 12 Tales from the Everfree part 2 of 7
Previous ChapterNext ChapterLyra and Bon-Bon stood sternly on the the Ponyville bridge. Both of them scanned the area around them. Looking for anything out of the ordinary; both of them then met on one side of the bridge. They nodded to each other and began to walk back into the town. That was until a small splash caught their attention. They walked back and looked down at the river. Lyra had used her magic to summon a magical light. They scanned the waters calm surface; searching for whatever had made the sound. Her magical light slowly moving closer to the underside of the bridge. A loud croaking sound came from the left. Lyra immediately fired at the sound; killing a random frog. With another nod the two walked back into the town.
From beneath the bridge Smolder slowly swam out. Behind her were the others; each of them-aside from Razor- had a look of worry on their face. As all of them slowly swam up to the shore. They gently climbed up and out of the water. All of them having to resist the natural urge to shake the water off their bodies. Razor looked around a little.
“Looks clear. We should move.” He said causing the others to nod.
All of them were heading towards his home. Earlier that day he had tried to go and get his back up forge. Thankfully Gallus had manged to stop him. But, getting his forge was still on his mind. So with careful thought each of them chose to return to Ponyville with Razor. So that they could help him get his forge back. They figured out a way to sneak into Ponyville; a way that would possibly allow them to remain undetected. They carefully made their way through town and to Razor's home. Smolder, Silverstream, and Yona stood guard. While the others helped Razor search for his forge. After a few minutes a searching Razor had stopped.
“She destroyed it.” He said causing everyone to look at him. All of them could see his second forge in his magical hold. It caused all of them to sigh heavily. All of this way for nothing is what they all thought. He then dropped his destroyed forge to the ground. As he began to walk back towards the town.
Gallus quickly moved in front of him, “Where are you going?!” He asked.
“To the school.” Razor answered earning him a glare from Gallus.
“Are you insane!” Gallus growled in anger, “Your forge is back the school!”
“I know,” Razor replied as he tried to walk around him. Only to have Gallus step in front of him again, “Gallus, please move.” He said kindly only to have Gallus shake his head in response.
“Razor, all of us including me; only did this because. You said, you said,” He brought his claw up and gestured towards him, “That this would be a safe get in get out mission. Where there would be no chance of us; running into that crazy mare or the mind controlled inhabitants of this town.” He continued while the others nodded in agreement, “Now, you want to go to the school. Which is on the other side of town. Where the river; which we need to use for cover. Does not flow near or around. All because you need to get your forge.” He finished.
“Yes.” Razor answered simply.
Gallus wanted to disagree with him; but his brain denied him, “Okay,” He said while turning to the others, “We're going back to school.” He finished everyone shook their heads; nothing is ever easy with Razor. A fact that each of understood with time. A fact each of them knew they were going to learn to hate.
The group slowly made their way through the town. They had to use the ally ways in order to maneuver around the many patrols. It took them a while to reach the school; which surprisingly had no patrols around it. They moved around the school and saw his forge; which was surprisingly still standing. Sandbar smiled as he began to walk towards the forge. He was suddenly stopped by Smolder.
“Smolder, What?!” He was interrupted by her throwing a stone towards the forge. The stone flew through the air for a few seconds; only to be destroyed by a magical beam.
“Traps.” She said as they looked towards the area where the shot had come from.
On one of the walls of the school they saw some type of strange crystal. The crystal looked like a diamond. But, it was shining with a magical aura. It was more than likely enchanted with a sentry spell. A spell that would automatically attack any unwanted guests. The only problem was with one sentry there was probably five or six more of them.
“Great,” Gallus said in a rather annoyed tone, “So how do we get rid of them?” He asked.
Ocellus spoke up, “We need to destroyer each one. I think Twilight said that you can send the magic back by.” She was interrupted by multiple loud explosions. Everyone flinched at the sounds as they looked at the source. Silverstream had walked forward and help up her piece of the pearl. Which when it was fired upon reflected the beams of light back. She turned back to the others who looked at her in horror.
“What?” She asked just as a red orb shot into the sky. It exploded just like a fire work, “What was that?” She asked.
“Magical flare,” Razor spoke as he walked up to his forge, “They know we are here. We need to leave now!” He finished as he walked up to his forge; he used his spell to shrink it down to size.
The group could hear the sound of many hoofsteps approaching. They began to run through the streets of the village again. Like before the ponies they all knew were chasing after again. Some of them shooting magical beams at them. While others were throwing nets or setting traps up ahead. And, once again the group managed to narrowly escape the village again. But, what they did not expect was an ambush in the forest. For, the moment they entered the forest they were attacked by a large timberwolf.
The timberwolf growled and chased after them. Snapping at one of them; whenever it was close enough. Razor saw that it was going for Ocellus and in a magical flash. He had summoned a blade from his forge. “Ocellus!” He shouted as he chucked a large dagger towards her. She caught it in her magical hold; just as the wolf had pounced her. With a scream she brought the dagger in front of her. Watching as the wolfs body slammed down onto her and the blade. It released a yelp of pain as it landed.
The group watched as Ocellus crawled out from under the injured animal. With a scream she plunged her dagger into the wolfs hide again. She screamed every time she would stab the animal. Listening as it yelped and whimpered every time. By the time she had finished; she was covered in the wolfs yellow blood. She was panting heavily as she looked at the now dead animal.
“I,” She began her voice sounding very fragile, “I did it.” She said her tone shifting to that of one that was very calm.
Smolder winced a little at the way she sounded, “Um, Ocellus are you okay?” she asked.
Ocellus looked at her with a grin that seemed forced. Her body trembling a little, “Me, Fine. I'm perfectly fine, I just managed to defeat my very first timberwolf. Why wouldn't I.” She was interrupted by Smolder suddenly hugging her. Her hold was gentle and comforting, “Smolder?” She asked.
Smolders hold only tightened around the changeling, “Ocellus, it's okay to cry. I cried my first time.” She said.
Ocellus had a face that showed no emotion, “What are you talking about?” She asked as her brain started to slowly process everything, “I'm....I'm not,” She began to sniffle a little; while tears started to form at the edge of her eyes, “I'm....I'm not going to.......I'm not going to cr-.” The flood gates opened and she began to sob heavily. Her hooves wrapping around her dragon friend. While the dragon held onto her, “Great scarab what have I done!” She screamed.
“It gets easier, Ocellus, “Smolder said trying her best to sound reassuring, “It gets easier I promise.” She finished.
Author's Note
now this chapter is short because I'm actually about to start breaking the young six into sword using. and, I also wanted to try and do something that....well....actually happened when I was out hunting with my father for the first time. no I did not kill a wolf. but, I was eager to prove my self to my father. (what son isn't.) so, out on my first hunt with him. I got my first deer. but, well, what happened with Ocellus actually happened to me. I cried after my first kill. But, what my dad told me was true. it got easier. no, it does not mean I go out and kill animals for fun. my father raised me to respect the rules and laws of hunting. so, yeah, I am not gonna lie. I cried and cried because well. couldn't believe I could do it. anyway that's it. sorry for the short chapter again. but, this was something I've been really wanting to type.
