After Starlights plan goes wrong, and Chrysalis begins draining the love of Thorax, she could either use the distraction to save her friends, and the Princesses, or save Thorax.

Instead of going for Thorax, and sparking Thorax's ascension, she instead saves the Princesses and Elements, leaving him behind.

Chrysalis is understandably angry at this, but she notices that Thorax is seemingly able to produce his own love in near endless amounts. This makes him the perfect food source. Chrysalis gets to work on making Sure his love is directed towards the hive, in the best possible way.
