At The End of Each Storm, There's a Rainbow
The sky was like is an endless canvas that kaleidoscopic colours are tossed upon.Some days it is a pure uninterrupted blue that stretches seamlessly across one's field of vision.When the sun rises, it is like a child's painting, beautiful magenta and bright ambers piled on top of each other, reflecting off low-hanging clouds and filling the world with a haze of wonder.Though when it storms, the harsh strikes of illuminating lightning leaves the dull, grey clouds a revengeful scar, fury and hatred getting whipped up in the wind's cruel gales.At night, the scintillating stars,like the glowing embers of a dying fire, smiles down at Earth, illuminating the atramentous curtain of sky.Then, the clouds parts and a ray of heavenly light shines down, revealing an argent, lustrous disc casting brilliant rays of moonlight onto the dark grounds.The sky is alive, growing at each passing moment, a constant, changing canvas for the world below to gaze and admire upon.
But on that particular day, the sky was a deep, rich azure, as blue as morning glories.Above, were the puffy, mammoth clouds and white whisps that trailed across the sky so slowly that it couldn't win a race against a tortoise.The sun was in a happy mood, and it shone down brightly.It was breathtakingly beautiful, like a painting.Well, at least it was beautiful in Soarin's eyes.
Soarin' was a student at Canterlot High.His skin was a very pale cornflower blue that matched his dark greyish phthalo blue hair.His emerald eyes observed upon the sky, taking every bit of detail in, admiring the beauty of Mother Nature's creation.He absently hummed a tune, tapping his pencil to the beat.At that point, he was doing his English homework, where he had to write a story in third person.He had decided to do it in a quiet spot away from the playground full of noise and excitement, where he could relax his mind from his busy life and let tranquility wash over him.
But then, he happened to look upon the blue arena above him, and noticed the cloud he came across looked so much like Rainbow Dash.
Rainbow Dash was the best female athelete in the whole entire school.Her hair was a cascade of colours that made the other girls' hair look a bit dull and colourless.Her cyan skin matched her adorable magenta eyes that twinkled like diamonds.She was a tomboy and everybody admired her confidence and awesomeness.She was a popular girl, and she was incredibly loyal to the best girl group in Canterlot High, the mane 7.She was so beautiful, amazing, and-
Soarin' snapped out of his revery.Beautiful,amazing,adorable...?Where did these words come from?Why was he thinking up these thoughts?Wait.Does he have a crush on her?
No.That wasn't possible.He was just being a dork.There was no way he would like her, and there was no way she would like him either.And anyway, she was a headstrong tomboy who would never, ever have a boyfriend in a million years.Why would she want a him when there were other people out there that were way more cooler than him?
He looked at his watch.It read 12:30.He had only half an hour left.He should definitely start cracking on with the story.Soarin frowned and chewed the end of his pencil.How should he start it?Once upon a time...No.It would make it sound as if it was a Disney Princess story.Maybe One sunny day,...?No.It would sound too lame.Soarin exhaled heavily.Beginnings were always the hardest.He shut his eyes and leant back.His mother had always told him, whenever he felt stressed out,he should try to clear his mind by having a brisk walk to clear his mind and relax his muscles.After a few moments, Soarin' decided that was the best thing to do was to follow his mother's advice.
Looking to his right, he saw a sign that read:Canterlot Gardens.Maybe he could walk in there?After all,students were accepted to enter the Canterlot Gardens during breaks and lunch.Additionally, it occasionally got crowded, as many people preferred the spacious field or the warmth of the cafeteria.Making up his mind,he packed away his English book and his pencil into his school bag, slung it over his shoulder and made his way into the Canterlot Gardens.
Towering trees greeted him warmly as he strolled into the school's home for nature, the sunlight kissing his face, flitting through the canopy of leaves.A refreshing aroma reached his nose.He inhaled deeply, letting out all the negativity that had been chained up inside him.Nature's sounds sang a comforting lullaby as he walked, the mixture of mud and damp grass were like a soft cushion underneath his feet.Hearing a trickle from a stream nearby, Soarin' turned his head,his sight welcomed by the mouth of a clearing.
From there, he saw three paths.He decided to walk on the one on the right.Just as he was about to carry on his journey, sudden doubt clouded his mind.He should be getting back by now.In a few minutes time,it would be the end of lunchtime,and the start of period five.Unlike many people, he actually enjoyed school.He was well above everyone in P.E. and he was in the top set for Maths, English and Triple Science.Even the most harsh and strict teachers,such as Miss Harshwhinny and Mr Strictmane,had complimented him many times on his progression and knowledge.Other subjects, such as D.T,Art,music and I.C.T had been a breeze for him, and Principal Celestia herself was blown.He shouldn't let himself down.He couldn't mess up everything when he had come such a long way.
But a voice inside him was nagging.He had been all stressed out all week because of all the pressure he was handling.His teachers had tried to encourage and push himself more and more.The questions they were expecting him to answer were unbelievably difficult and mind-blowing.Soarin' only knew some of the answers to them,and the subjects that the questions that were based on hit his weak points.They were very challenging, questions that few could answer.His parents, noticing how unsettled Soarin' had become, had tried to help him,buying books that said Revision Guide for the Gifted, and helping him manage the sudden overload of homework he had received, but he still had a constant, horrible headache that would sometimes put him in a low, depressing mood.
No,Soarin' told himself firmly,I deserve a break.All the other kids sit in school all day long pranking the teachers and misbehaving.They're probably end up getting a job down at the pub,drinking and smoking.But I'm doing brilliantly, according to Miss Harshwhinny,so why shouldn't I have some time to myself,without the stress or hard work?He gritted his teeth and clenched his fists, digging his nails hard in his palm. Even if Principal Celestia gives me a detension, I'm just going to give her a peice of my mind and get my mother and father in to explain how much stress the teachers had given me.Without any hesitation,he stormed off on the path on the right, still furious on how unfairly the school had been treating him.
Slowing his pace down, he noticed how different his surroundings looked.The trees were a rainbow of colours:there were trees that leaves' were a vibrant ruby red,some had accustomed a natural, lush green colour, some were rich chocolatey brown and some had blended into a beautiful golden colour that looked arificial.There were also many flowers that had roamed the place too:there were buttercups and daffodils that were a bright, cheerful colour, gorgeous roses that would've made Rarity squeal,and lavender that were an amazing shade of violet.Calming down, he took in the awestriking beauty, marvelling at its wonderfulness.
Then suddenly, a noise caught his attention.
It was nothing palpable, just a quiet, subtle sound that could've been passed as a butterfly landing on a flower.It was obviously just a mere illusion.Soarin' continued his walk, observing every bit of detail around him.
But then he heard it again.
This time it was less tangible.It was a sound of sobbing, of pure sadness that could've teared Fluttershy's heart in two.The sound was calling, calling for help, calling for Soarin's help.Soarin' turned his head towards the sound.It was simply heart-breaking to hear, and he felt a sudden urge to investigate where it was coming from and why the source of the noise was crying.He quietly ambled towards a clump of bushes.Realising that the noise was louder, which meant he was nearer to the source, he parted the bushes.
What met his eyes was...
