Prologue
The Highwaters
Twilight Velvet and Night Light met in a small little town near the center of Equestria known as Ponyville Night Light was the son of a poor blacksmith and was trained in this art he made horseshoes and lances for the cavalry and made swords, spears, and shields for the foot soldiers, but never art he never mastered was Algorian art of Gunsmithing a forbidden art in Equestria since Algoria was an enemy to Equestria and had been since Princess Celestia came into rule over Equestria a short 10 years ago succeeding her father who had been killed in a battle with another land named Northialis which was a cold and frozen land of people with blue skin and ice like hair. While Velvet was the daughter of a Royal Soldier who was rarely home almost always stationed far away dealing with the many lands surrounding Equestria Algoria, Northialis, and Matherin. Her mother was a tailor who made dresses for the mayor of Ponyville at the time, They both met in the marketplace near the bread stall, they both bumped into each other Night carrying some newly bought tools in a wicker basket (hammers, tongs, etc) while she was carrying a basket filled with bread, upon bumping into each other Night dropped his tools one of the hammers splitting in half as it hit the ground.
“Damn it,” grumbled Night Light looking at the tools that lied on the ground in front of him
“Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry,” said Velvet bending over to help him pick up the tools.
“Thank you, but I’m gonna need to get a new hammer, and I already spent almost all of my bits and I still need to get some food to bring home,” said Night Light annoyed.
“How much does a hammer cost?” asked Velvet.
“The kind I had cost 18 bits and I only have 6 just enough to get 2 loaves of bread,” said Night angrily
Velvet put her basket down and pulled 18 bits out of her coin saying “here” she then handed him 2 loaves of bread and said, “have this too.”
“Are you sure? You don’t have to do this” said Night surprised.
“It’s okay I have enough bread, my name’s Twilight Velvet by the way,” said Velvet reaching her hand out
“uhm.....I’m Night Light,” said Night nervously.
Velvet chuckled lightly before walking away down the cobblestone streets lit dimly by the setting sun and torch lamps glowing along the walkway. Night made it back to his home 2 miles outside of Ponyville in a field along a trade route which was where he would get his metal from, the house at one point belonged to his father but when his father died he got it the house is a small wooden cottage with a large stone fireplace, and barred windows with doors on the inside that blocked them. Outside in the tall grass sat his forge, a simple stone forge he would make most of his money from passing traders who would give him bits, food, or coal, seeing as he couldn’t often find coal in Ponyville he would often just wait until a trader would offer some. As he sat at the small table in his cottage he heard some people speaking in an unknown language, thinking it was Algorians he grabbed the ax he kept next to the bed and slowly opened the door seeing several short, brawny figures riding boars in the dim light of oil lanterns, they were Dwarves, short, gruff, advanced, and strong. They lived in the mountains of the many lands of the world, they wore armored that looked to be gold but was actually a mixture of bronze and Mythril it was clunky and carved the helmets having a piece surrounding the back of the head, and ears, as well as a nose piece. They had tall shields and large bladed axes strapped to their backs with lanterns hung from poles sticking up from their Boar’s leather saddles after they passed
It is now 6 years later Night Light and Velvet have been married so they decided to move away from Ponyville into a forest the ground mostly bare, nothing but dirt and in some places covered in a strange fungus type growth that turned it a dark brown. The house they live in is close to the village of Mathias, which is 30 miles due north of Ponyville and 14 miles from the Border of Equestria and Algoria right outside the forest less than a mile from where Night and Velvet lived. They had a daughter with violet hair and skin who was always interested in books which were frequently bought from the Marketplace when Night would go to sell his wares (Horseshoes, Swords, etc). Her name was Twilight and she often read books about the ocean and grand expeditions, the failed ones, and even those sent out to find the failed expeditions. She always loved books and would either spend her days inside combing over the books they had in their small house while her mother would make her clothes or looking at the many books that were sold at the marketplace in Mathias while her father sold his wares to the citizens and traders as they passed. There was a military encampment just outside of Mathias that just tents and campfires sitting in the open fields. One day they awoke to the sound of soldiers marching in front of their house when they walked outside they saw Royal Soldiers, some on horseback and others on foot all of them clad in golden armor that glistened in the golden sunlight holding spears in their left hand, large shields in their rights with a simple short sword at their side. They held themselves as a Phalanx, not knowing what was happening Night grabbed the woodsman ax from next to his door and motioned both Velvet and Twilight to stay behind him. Then smoke plumed from the forest and loud cracking sounds were heard as several soldiers fell over with blood gushing their wounds, bullet wounds.
[CHAAAAAARRRRRGGGGEEEEE] yelled a loud deep voice followed by loud cries.
100 Algorian soldiers ran from their place deep in the forest wearing bright red armor made of cloth stuffed with gambeson, underneath that was chainmail and underneath that was leather. From their backs were long capes that draped down to their knees them being tall individuals, their helmets were gray steel with a nose piece and wrapped around their head stopping at their ears with a sharp point at the top. They had large percussion cap breach loaded rifles strapped to the backs wielding long swords, serrated swords, and spears, long machetes, axes, and kite shields. They chopped and slashed at the soldiers five of them back against the back front of their cabin, but unbeknownst by both Night’s family and the soldiers there were cannons further into the forest, one fired towards the cabin blowing up the wall knocking Night out cold. He woke up several hours alter his legs and chest hurting, his cabin burned to the ground all that was left were burnt sticks and a crumbling chimney, he looked towards Mathias seeing it lit ablaze lighting up the sky. He looked towards his wife laying dead on the ground with pain in his eyes Night fell to his knees and sobbed. After finding his horse and cart he got his daughter who had miraculously survived the explosion, his tools, the remaining books, the remaining clothes, and some food before heading towards Canterlot the capital of Equestria where he would make a life for him and his daughter.
