Author's Note
So I know I've been away for a while, but I finally have this story finished. It's just another one shot, but after this, I'm setting on an actual proper sequel. I added in a comic that I commissioned a while ago, and I hope it's not too distracting or anything. The goal is to enhance the story, not take away from it. Let me know what you guys think.
Broaden Your Horizons
As the quiet night breeze gently whispered along the mountainside of Canterlot, the ponies of Equestria enjoyed the peaceful embrace of sleep. Not a pony in town stirred as the moon slowly crawled across the sky towards the horizon, save for the royal guard and Princess Luna.
However, outside of Canterlot, the same could not be said, as two ponies - one charcoal unicorn mare, and one crimson pegasus stallion, walked along the moonlit path on the far side of Canterlot Mountain. The gravel compacted nicely under their hooves, and made the traveling easy and smooth. Even so, the weary ponies strained against their own sore muscles as they trekked along the mountainside.
Sky and Midnight both released a sigh of relief as their warm home came into view, and they found a slight bounce in their step as they grew closer. Upon reaching the front porch of the house, Sky happily opened the front door. Midnight trotted inside first with a tired smile on her face with Sky following close behind. They both quickly made their way up the stairs and to their shared bedroom.
Midnight opened the door and allowed Sky to enter first. He trotted into the room and leapt onto the bed without hesitation while Midnight shook her head, a happy grin on her face.
"That was a long day..." Sky said as he rolled over on the bed.
"It sure was, big guy, but you really came through for us today." Midnight replied.
"Well I couldn't let my best girl down, now could I?" Sky asked with a raised eyebrow.
Midnight laughed.
"I should hope not. I'd like to think that after two years, you'd know better than to leave me hanging." Midnight responded with a smug smile on her face.
Sky rolled over again until he was laying on his back. He patted the spot next to him and gave an inviting smile. Midnight playfully rolled her eyes before breaking into a gallop and launching herself onto the bed, making Sky yelp in surprise.
She landed on top of him and instantly wrapped her hooves around his barrel. She quickly brought her lips to his and silenced any response he was about to make with a long, loving kiss. Sky could only kiss her back as his words were drowned out in the sea of passion flowing from Midnight. Her tongue softly caressed his lips and snaked its way inside, finding his teeth parting just for her. His tongue softly met hers, and together, they danced.
It was a slow dance, and each millimeter of exploration brought with it a thousand synapses of pleasure and ecstasy. Endorphins flooded both of their minds as their tastes mixed and matched, bringing out the softest of moans that only a trained ear could have ever hoped to perceive.

Sky absentmindedly found his hooves stroking against Midnight's back and down her flanks. The delicate dance of passion finally came to a close, and only the saddest of goodbyes could match the feeling of emptiness that plagued Sky's mind as Midnight withdrew her tongue. He let out a breath he didn't even know he was holding, and fresh air was quickly pulled into his burning lungs. One look at Midnight told him that she too, had long forgotten the need for such a trivial thing as air, as she panted along with him. Sky couldn't help the wide grin that formed on his face as he found that he could still make Midnight just as weak in the knees as she made him.
As his heart rate finally returned to a normal level, Sky again found Midnight's lips pressing into his, and just as easily as before, the slow dance of passion began anew. He couldn't help but let his eyes roll back in his head as Midnight took the lead and dominated his tongue in yet another display of love and affection.
Midnight pulled away from Sky just as she was sure he was going fall into a pleasure-induced coma. She couldn't help but admire her hoofwork, as Sky seemed barely conscious upon her lips leaving his. His mind was swimming in endorphins and dopamine, and in his eyes, she saw a look that conveyed the perfect picture of satisfaction. She felt just a little proud of how well she could still blow his mind with just some kissing.
Satisfied with how pleased Sky seemed to be, Midnight laid down alongside him and took to simply kissing his cheek and nuzzling him until he could regain his senses. After a few moments, he was able to think straight again.
"Damn... that was nice..." Sky said to no one in particular.
"Mmhmm, and maybe next time you'll actually win." Midnight teased.
"Hey, you've had a lifetime to practice. I've had eleven months with this new body, and most of it was spent just trying to figure out how to sleep without crimping any feathers. Besides, have you seen yourself? You're kinda cheating when you look this sexy." Sky replied, rubbing her flank with his hoof.
"Hehe, thanks, big guy." Midnight said, planting a kiss on his cheek.
"So... work's done. It's only eleven o'clock. We've still got the whole night ahead of us... what do you want to do tonight beautiful?" Sky asked.
"Oh! I have an idea. You wanna try something new?" Midnight asked, an excited grin forming on her face.
"I'm ready for anything, as long as my beautiful unicorn wants it." Sky responded as Midnight climbed onto his stomach.
A small smirk found its way on the charcoal unicorn's face as she brought her hooves together and her horn lit up in a brilliant sapphire hue.
As the light began to fade away and dissipate, Sky couldn't help but notice the strange feeling of extra weight on top of his stomach. He managed to blearily open his eyes and look at Midnight again. What greeted his eyes however, was not the graphite mare that he loved oh so much. Instead, there was a disturbingly attractive dark grey stallion resting on top of him. His withers were wide and sturdy, and his long black mane had an almost feminine charm to it as it hung, neatly curled and combed just above his shoulders. His strong jawline and piercing blue eyes seemed to radiate warmth, and Sky's heart beat just a little faster as he stared back at him.
The crimson pegasus did a double take at the appearance of such an interloper.
"What the fu-" Sky started to say, but upon hearing his own voice, stopped dead in his tracks. His normally deep and masculine voice now sounded several octaves higher, and lacked the bass he was so used to. His eyes widened as he realized that it was a distinctly feminine sounding voice.
Sky clasped his hooves over his mouth in shock, only to find that his muzzle was much smaller than before, and it didn't quite stick out as far. He chanced a look down at his stomach to find a much more slender body than he was used to, along with disturbingly female hips. As his eyes trailed south, he saw the grey stallion resting on top of him, covering his more sensitive bits with his body.
Sky's brow furrowed as he tried to figure out exactly what Midnight did. It didn't take long for him to reach a conclusion and his eyes widened even further upon the realization.
"M-Mid?" Sky asked, his new voice making him stutter slightly.
"Mmm-hmm." Midnight coyly answered.
"W-what did you do?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Midnight asked with a wiggle of his eyebrows.
Sky couldn't help but notice Midnight's deep, baritone voice. Against his will, his heart skipped a beat at the warm, soothing nature of Midnight's new voice, and he felt his chest and cheeks flush. He did his best to push those feelings to the back of his mind and focus on the situation at hoof.
"Uh... no? Why are you a dude? Why do I sound like this?" Sky questioned.
"Well... you did say you were up for anything... and I have really wanted to try this spell for the last few months, but I wanted to be sure that I could get it right without hurting you, so... I swapped our genders!" Midnight happily responded.
"You what!?" Sky exclaimed.
"Oh, don't be like that. It's not permanent. The spell will reverse itself in eight hours. It took a long time and a lot of studying with Twilight to get this right, so I'm actually pretty proud of the result. You are unbelievably cute as a mare." Midnight explained with an ever growing smile.
"I'M A MARE!?!" Sky shrieked.
Midnight pawed at Sky's chest fur for a moment before responding.
"Well, yeah. That's what gender swap means. We swapped genders. It's a much easier spell than just changing a mare into a stallion. I'm not good enough at magic to just turn you into a mare, so I swapped us. Now you can feel what it's like to be me and I can feel what it's like to be you!" Midnight cheered, clopping his hooves together in excitement.
Sky's jaw dropped.
"You... you aren't serious... Are you, Mid?" Sky wearily asked.
Rather than answer the question, Midnight simply lifted himself off of Sky and motioned downwards with his muzzle. Sky took the hint and gazed downwards. Rather than a sheath to hide his stallionhood, Sky saw two nipples resting on small mounds of flesh, no larger than A cups. His jaw dropped yet again.
"Now I know you're kinda freaked out right now, but I promise you that this is only a temporary spell that will wear off before we wake up tomorrow. I knew you would be afraid of doing it if I just asked, so... I kinda decided to surprise you with it." Midnight explained as he laid back down on top of Sky's stomach.
Sky was still too frozen to reply.
"Sky? You okay? I-I get if this was too much, but I really think you'll love this. I promise, I would never force you to do something you weren't comfortable with, especially when it comes to something like this," Midnight continued, motioning to both of their changed forms. "Nothing matters to me more than making this enjoyable for the both of us, and I don't want to put my desires ahead of your well-being."
Sky barely managed to close her mouth and give Midnight a questioning look. Midnight cringed slightly at the lack of excitement in Sky's eyes.
"You've wanted to do this for a long time, haven't you?" Sky asked.
"I'll admit, it's... been a secret desire of mine for a while now... and before you make any hasty decisions, I promise that for the next week we'll do whatever you want." Midnight explained.
"And... what if I don't want any part in my body being switched around again?" Sky asked with slight agitation.
"I can undo the spell. It'll be tough, and it'll take up what's left of my magic for the day, but if you're really sure you don't want any part of it, I can switch us back." Midnight replied, somewhat downtrodden.
Sky didn't reply for some time. She searched Midnight's face for any sign of deception or foul play but found nothing but honesty in those bright blue eyes of his. Try as she might, she just couldn't stay angry at that unicorn. Midnight quickly picked up on the apparent softening of Sky's features, and his spirits rose immediately.
"Hey, listen to me. You know I love you, right?" At Sky's nod, he continued, "Then you know that I want you to enjoy this just as much as I want to. All I'm asking for is a chance to prove it to you. I really think we'll both enjoy this." Midnight added, a winning smile adorning his face.
"Mid... I don't know about this..." Sky reasoned, much to Midnight's dismay.
"I promise that I won't do anything you aren't comfortable with. Please, Sky? I know you'll love this! And if not, then I swear to Celestia that we never have to do this again, and we can just pretend that it never happened." Midnight pleaded.
Sky was silent for several minutes. Her muzzle scrunched up in thought as she thought over Midnight's words.
"If- And I mean only if I agree to this, there have to be some ground rules." Sky said, her chocolate eyes trained on Midnight's.
"Deal. What are your terms?" Midnight asked, regaining his previous excitement.
"First, we need a safe word. If I say the safe word at any time, then you stop and we end this, got it?"
"Got it. What's the safe word?" Midnight asked.
"Pineapple."
"Pineapple?"
"Pineapple. Anyways, rule number one. You are not to stick anything in my butt. At all. No exceptions."
"Done. I wasn't even planning on that." Midnight responded.
"Good. Rule number two. I am not sucking your dick."
"Aww." Midnight frowned.
"Don't you 'awww' me. You're lucky I'm even curious enough to consider this." Sky shot back.
"Alright, alright. That's fair."
"And lastly, rule number three..." Sky trailed off as her cheeks seemed to darken.
"What's rule number three?" Midnight asked, having picked up on Sky's sudden shyness.
"Just... be gentle with me... This is completely out of my comfort zone right now."
Midnight's heart hurt just a little bit at Sky's tone, but he quickly pushed that pain aside and moved his muzzle right over to Sky's ear.
"Trust me." He whispered in the most sincere, caring voice he could muster.
"O-Okay..." Sky replied.
Midnight pulled away from Sky's ear and planted a deep kiss on her lips. The sensation of having a completely different muzzle barely registered with Sky as Midnight forced his tongue inside. She tried desperately to fight back with her much smaller tongue, but to no avail. She was beat back and subdued within seconds, allowing Midnight free reign to explore and taste the new mare as deeply as he wanted.
Sky's brain struggled to keep up with the sensory overload of Midnight's new taste and scent. "Well..."

Midnight bit his lip.

"Mid, if I haven't said I want to swap back by now, then I think I can wait until tomorrow morning." Sky replied.
"I was really hoping you would say that." Midnight said, a wide grin forming on his face.
His horn lit up in a bright blue hue and after a moment, a similarly bright hue formed around his sheath. The spell lasted only a moment longer, and it was over with a small flash of light.
"There we go. I think I have another round in me now," Midnight replied, "Here, let me just clean us up real quick..."
With a white flash of light, Midnight and Sky's coats were clean again.
"Still love that spell" Sky remarked as she propped herself up to all fours.
"Sometimes I wonder where it all goes." Midnight replied with a thoughtful look on his face.
"You mean you don't know?"
"Nope. Who knows? Maybe it all goes to that one teacher I hated back in middle school." Midnight laughed.
